HI!, I am about to buy a laptop for architecture, 3d and long hours of modeling, do you recommend the hp omen 15 or the MSI leopard GP63? both with 1tb + 128ssb 16 ram gtx1060 6GB INTEL i7. NICE VIDEO!
I think Omen should be fine for that job and the good thing is that it's more portable than GP63. But if you mind high temperatures you better go for MSI GP63 which has great cooling system. :)
I absolutely love my Hp Omen 15 laptop, it’s never let me down in the performance department, gaming and video editing are a breeze. Superb quality review also!
Why the hell you don't have more subscribers?! Superb review and editing. Pretty straight forward. Was thinking of buying helios 300 144 hz. Now I'm gonna get omen, same specs as yours. Regards from Brazil, my man!! 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Well, maybe because i started the channel relatively not long ago. I am happy anyway because more and more people come to see my videos. :) I also made a separated video with in-depth comparison of HP Omen 15 and Predator Helios 300. If you haven't seen it yet you can check it out to ensure which one will be right for you.
This is in my opinion the best review of this laptop I can find. Your videos are super helpful and most importantly, straightforward. There are no unnecessary anecdotes and only the most necessary information are present in the video. The graphics are super neat too. I'm glad I found this channel. Thank you Chris! I am considering this laptop in the next coming weeks!
Never seen such a Video having 2k Subs.....Brother, u definitely deserve more than a Million Subs...keep going....we will support u...Really Professional video ❤️
I purchased the hp omen 15-dc0103tx - i7 8750h, 16gb ram, 1tb HDD and 256 SSD. 144htz screen, 1070 graphics. All good so far (one week). BUT be careful. This model does NOT come with RGB keyboard. Just red backlit. No drama for me (though I’d rather have had just white) but worth noting - as most reviews indicated it as standard.
You can buy Omen with red backlit or RGB - there are different configurations but if the seller didn't include this info while listing it's his faulu. The RGB is a standard in 2018 Omen.
For a few days, I have been looking for good gaming laptops and as soon as I saw the Omen 15 I was completely in love! Your video helped me with a lot of doubt's that I had and has also helped me making my decision to buy this beast! Super nice video! Congrats!
You, my friend, had just earned a new sub! This is by far *the* most _in-depth_ review of the HP Omen 15 I've watched on TH-cam and your video finally had me make up my mind on what I really needed! Cheers! 👏🏻
Yep, you can't switch to Intel graphics, because Omen has G-Sync, so it runns on Nvidia GPU all the time. But the battery life is still metter in many gaming laptops.
The Omen-15 is a sleeper for video production. My current Samsung is slowly fading out, so I went looking for a replacement. The Sammy has a 17", which is nice. With the brick, it's up around 9 pounds, which isn't nice. I don't travel that often, but when I do, toting 9 pounds of laptop doesn't have a big fun quotient. The Omen-15 looked good on paper, particularly the GPU, and I've done well enough with other HP's. Delivered with 15" screen, 6-core i7, GTX1060 GPU (not Max-Q), 16 Gb RAM, 256 Gb SSD, and 1 Tb HDD, the Omen-15 is even better than what the specs suggest. I swapped the 1 Tb HDD for 2 Tb so I had at least what I had on the Sammy and a little mose space after that. I may add a second SODIMM later. Or not. I have an external CD/DVD burner left over from an old MSI - no need to add one to the cost here. I'm not a gamer and have no intention of getting caught up in gaming. What I was looking for was something portable that can do video production. I'm happy to say the test video production confirmed the Omen-15 and Blackmagic Design's Resolve 15 are an excellent match. What would have taken, on the "gamer version" Sammy, the better part of a day to get to a rough cut was knocked out in 3-4 hours. Playback, in the past, lurched and just about stalled at transitions (fades, etc.). Now the playback, complete with edits, runs as if it was raw from the camera. ("Road to Tortilla Flat" will show up on my channel shortly) This Omen-15 has the new BIOS. It runs pretty much as described for the newer Omen-15's. The fans throttle up when doing the final rendition (converting the internal document to an output file) and vary during work. The more GPU activity, the faster and louder the fans are. The overall chassis and keyboard haven't heated up as much I expected they would. No complaint there. Right now, typing this commentary, the keypad area is downright cool, not even sort of maybe warm. Works for me... The screen color looks good and the resolution is good enough to support small, thin type as well as looking good with video playback. Coming from a 17" screen is taking some adjustment on my part, but I'm be OK with it. But I do have some gripes. The biggest one is the edge of the keyboard surface. The corner where the "porch" in front of the keyboard and the under side of the case meet has a distinct edge to it. I get wanting crisp lines, but the edge is irritating and scrapes my wrists just enough to rate "I'd like to see the SOB that designed this live with it". It seems like a small thing but the Pg Up, Pg Dn, End keys work all of the time. Num Lock has to be disabled to use the Home key. I usually leave numlock engaged to make typing numbers easier. Not only is tagging Num Lock repeatedly annoying; there's no status light to confirm the state of Num Lock. Caps Lock is only slightly better; it has a small LED in the key. Why HP didn't do that for Num Lock escapes me. I may start using an external keyboard if the edge gets too annoying. Kinda defeats the point of having a laptop, though. While I'm on the keyboard, the background lighting is nice, I guess. Being able to define different colors for different key groups is also nice. I guess. If they were always all one color, it wouldn't trouble me at all. What does bother me a bit is the font for the key tops. Short but wide letters doesn't make me shine. I hope someone in the Star Trek or Star Wars worlds doesn't notice the design ripoff. Gripe? Maybe yes, maybe no. I use a Logitech M570 wireless trackball. I'm not a touchpad fan; they get in the way when typing. On minute the cursor's here, and then it's there, and I'm typing in the middle of what I previously wrote. Oddly, there is an LED for the "touchpad disable" function key. Still no pity for the Num Lock key. Feh. The speakers... why Bang & Olufsen let their good name stand next to the speakers also escapes me. B&O makes some very high end equipment that's most pleasing to the eye. Almost by definition, laptop speakers aren't worth much beyond voices and Win10's noises. Pop the bottom cover off the Omen-15 and there are the same speaker parts I have in my Sammy. Do they work? Yes. Would I want to use them non-stop? Nah. Which is why external speakers exist. Why B&O has their name here remains a mystery. The USB and other port locations may take some time to accept. It'll take a little time to figure out what gets plugged in where. Any other design would probably leave me feeling the same. No gripe, just a bit of whining. Would I buy the Omen-15 again? Performance says "h*** yeah". Ergos say "let me think about this a minute". I got my Omen-15 as an "open box special" at Micro Center. If I could nail down a second unit at $902, I guess I'd jump at it. Overall score? Two thumbs up.
Thanks for a great customer review! I hope that this will help others decide. You showed Omen from a different perspective. Btw. the longest comment on my channel confirmed. Take care and enjoy the new laptop!
@@TechFinds Thanks for pinning my comments. I do tend to go on, don't I. ;) An additional comment: I've found that buying anything from PC's to cars is a little like dating. Step 3: OK, there are some problems, but life is mostly good. I'm somewhere between 1 and 2, closer to 2 and moving on to 3. See? That was quick. Wasn't it?

Dear friend. Hope you can help me with upgrading the SSD. How will I know that the Windows was install on the Stock HDD or in the Nvme. Which one should i clone. I want to upgrade the HDD to Samsung evo SSD. Thank you
Someone should do a video showing EXACTLY how and what to uninstall and what drivers to update as soon as it's unboxed to maximize performance of this popular laptop. I haven't found a video like that so far.....just saying
I just got mine today but there is some bad backlight bleed and the 8750H gets close to 100C when gaming. Thinking of returning it and getting a Helios 300 instead. Which do you prefer? Also my bios is up to date
Have you changed the mode from default to co fort? Also try to undervolt the CPU by -0.135V and see how are your temperatures. Helios 300 is almost the same if it comes to temperatures but you can at least set the fans to max RPM while gaming. If it comes to backlight bleeding i think that it's ok as long as you can't notice it while using the laptop normally - most of laptops have it so you can't really prevent that. Idk I person ally prefere Omen and my unit was not bad if it comes to thermals but if you don't like it you can return it and try Predator. Also as alternative for Helios 300 I recommend MSI GP63 - i revived it too and compared to Helios 300 so you can check it out.
So you say that the battery was full and then you left the laptop for 2 days not using it at all? Every device drains a battery even when it's off. It's not a big number but it exists. I suvgest you to do the test before you assume the battery is deffective. Charge it to 100%, set the screen brightness to max and surf the net until the battery is drained completly. Or the faster way: play some demanding game until the battery dies and then check if the results are respectable.
Tech Finds yes..battery behaves just fine with and without charger. But it drains also quite fast when i switch off lap top. I assume somethin from win 10 or Bios option drains it.
Very nice review. I love the looks of this laptop and I must say the hinge design is very nice. I would of bought this laptop if I didnt already have my Alienware 17r4, my laptop is a beast. I might just try to buy this HP laptop later on once I get the money xD

Hi. Thanks for your video, just want ask you, what about omen 15-dc0005ne model 4k 60Hz. Is it good for gaming? Also if I drop the resolution to FHD. is that give more refresh rate to the display? Thanks,
Hi, the 4k display makes no sense in 15" laptop to be honest. It's rather for content creation, but even for that 1080f is enough on a 15" screen. You won't be able to get decent fps on higher settings in games with on 4K resolution. Also the 144hz looks much smoother than 60hz and with 4k you can't have faster refresh rate if you drop the resolution down.
@@abogreisha3714 idk about Asus TUF, because I didn't test it, but Omen was pretty good if not the high temperatures. You can buy it with 144hz display option too. Have you heard about the 2019 Acer Predator Helios 300? It's about the same price and I think that it's a lot better. Check out my rexiew
Great thorough review and comparison! Was very useful. Do you know how good the 4k 60Hz panel is which is offered in some versions ( dc0107tx) of this laptop. Thanks
Sorry but i can't even find any info about the color accuracy of this 4k pannel. However it works at 60Hz so i would rather choose 144Hz model for gaming and if it comes to serious content creation i belive there are better laptops on the market. Now i am also curious about this 4k pannel color accuracy.
Do update, if you find more info as it seems to be very hard to find anything about it online. I would use it mostly for coding and graphics stuff and not gaming so I'm trying to find how is the colour gamut and if I would prefer crisper fonts or a 144Hz screen :)
I didn't see any 4k laptop screen with 144Hz refresh rate so far. If you gonna do graphics work you can check out Asus Zenbook Pro (but with i7-8750H processor). It has 4k pannel with 100% sRGB and 100% Adobe RGB. And dual screen (second screen in touchpad). It's useful in graphics work as you can drag different windows to the touchpad area.
Thanks, I'll check that out. I had discarded that model as too gimmicky. Will check if it is available in my country and in a shop to test. Look forward to your future videos
I've had this laptop for the past 2 years. I live stream instructional materials, edit 4k and motion graphics as well as Podcast audio recording with up to 4 guests at a time. Its NEVER SKIPPED A BEAT. I am happy to say it is worth every dollar I spent on it. After a recent upgrade from 16 to 32gb or ram, this baby is one of the best values on the market.
Great video I just ordered my Omen 15 , got the i7 8750h and 1060, I got it with 8gb of ram and no ssd since I plan on adding another 8gb and a 500gb evo ssd as soon as it comes out the box for a significantly lower price than factory. Quick question though since I opted for the non ssd version it will still has the slot for the nvme just vacant right ?
Thanks man! Yes, the M.2 slot will be empty but it may come without the screw (check it out when you get it). That's good you planning to add 8GB ram since only 8GB is not enough for gaming nowdays. Btw. I've got a video showing how to disassembly and upgrade Omen 15.
Your video is one of the best review that i've found. So many important dedails :D Can I ask you a question? I have considered to buy the 15.6" 144hz model. It's about $1,300 in my country. Should I buy it right now? or wait for a discount prices when the RTX 20 series laptops release?
Hi, thanks for kind words. We are not sure about prices of RTX laptops yet but they will be probably just a little more expensive while having a lot better performance. If you don't rush with buying a new laptop you can wait for it.
In India, the GTX 1060 model has a 1tb 7200 rpm HDD and an nvme m2 128gb SSD and a display refresh rate of 144 Hz. The model name is HP Omen 15 dc0106tx. Does this model's also cover 96% sRGB?
It is not really different from the GTX models, since it's still the same chassis and cooling system. I general Omen runns hot, but there are few things you can do to decreas the temperatures to a de ent level.
Thx 🙏. Watched all your reviews and compressing videos. And finally buy HP OMEN 15 with i7-9750H and Rtx 2070. It’s sooooooo good) Is it normal that temp in games about 80-85 c?
Hi i have a question regarding the buttons on the touch pad, are they soft and mushy or are they hard? I need the buttons to be the same material as the keys which are soft.
Hard to say, they are soft as for me but other people may find them different way. I actually like them, because they don't require much force to click and they are made of rubber-like material.
hey, loved the video. i have the 1070 max-Q setup .The temperatures on ultra hit 92 degrees at max over long period of gaming the thing i wanted to ask is would you recommend undervolting my laptop?
Sure, undervolting is always a good decision when your CPU temperature reaches over 90 degrees. It is safe and easy to do and in effect you get better performance and lower temperatures. In the video i mentioned the undervolting tutorial so if you'll decide to undervolt your CPU check it out (link in the description).
@@keshavsharan1160 i applied -0.130V only and the max temp can reach 90 degrees in my case but it's maximum and like 5% low. Average temperature is ok 85 degrees. Check what is your average temperature most of the time but if you say 92 was max then your average should be like 85-88. I think that's not bad. It would be bad if your laptop stayed at 90 and over most of the time. Anyway, check the BIOS update - hp relased an update that fixes thermal issues, pinned the commenting with a link.
@@TechFinds the avg sits about 88-90 Like probably because I'm playing the graphic intensive games at maxed out setting more than those of recommended by geforce experience also(which themselves are more that optimal) Thanks for the info regarding everything, I love how responsive your page is
Great reviews! Trying to decide between HP omen 15 i7, 1060, 8gb, 128gb + 1tb, 144Hz £1099 and msi ge63 8RF, i7, 1060, 16gb, 128gb + 1tb 120hz £1199. Any idea?
Both are very good laptops but it depends what you're looking for in a laptop. MSI has much better keyboard with rgb per key and much more efficient cooling than Omen. The thing that it is missing is G-Sync which is important for gaming, especially if you play on the edge of 60fps. It has also a mediocre design and plastic body (except for metal top panel). On the other hand Omen has worse thermals but it has G-Sync display which makes the games look smoother. The body is metal with plastic top pannel. I personally would go for MSI because i pay much attention to temperatures. Btw. Isn't it "MSI ge63 8RE"? The "8RF" is the model name of MSI Raider with GTX 1070. Check it out: 8RD (GTX 1050Ti): amzn.to/2V6D03w 8RE (GTX 1060): amzn.to/2IlFaKO 8RD (GTX 1070): amzn.to/2BFP4B8

Hi By any chance can you do a thermal update video on the HP omen 15, showing how the comfort mode works and whether there is a performance drop because of using comfort mode instead of the performance mode
Sorry bit Omen as same as other laptops that i reviewed was only for test puropses and i had to send it back. Some of my subscribers that bought Omen sold me that info. ;) Recently i even had a possibility to see it on my own eyes but Omen is not available for me anymore.
I am about to buy a laptop for architecture, 3d and long hours of modeling, do you recommend the hp omen or the leopard? both with 1tb + 128ssb 16 ram gtx1060 i7. Thanks!
Generally Omen is better but if you're on budget go for Predator which gives you the best value for the money. Within this week i'm gonna relase in-depth video comparison of Omen 15 and Helios 300 so you can check it out and decide.
@@TechFinds I want to buy one but gsync situation with HP omen is really confusing. PDF manual says that laptop like you tested should support gsync but you didn't mention. Minimum is 1060 with 6gb ram 144Hz screen or 60Hz screen and i7
@@tomobazak7154 i don't know how about 60hz screen but 144hz supports G-Sync. It's a technology built into the display so you will have it even with weaker GPU if you'll buy 144hz Omen.
@@TechFinds totally agree! Scince I do a lot of hacking competitions (CTFs) and I travel a lot I bought the 15 inch tbh I think the gtx 1070 version is a waste of money I think the 1060 version is better especially for the price non the less it's an amazing laptop
HP updated the Omen and now it comes with RTX graphics cards. In the USA you can buy RTX 2060 version for $1300 - that's even less than GTX 1060 model lol.
I don't think so. In the USA you have 14 or 30 days (don't remember) to return an item if you don't like it, without saying why. But after that time I don't think you can do anything like that. Even if it's damaged they would probably take it for service but you would not be able to return a laptop with a refund. But maybe there is any solution which I don't know about so look around the internet to find it out.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for your review, I am subscribing to your channel. There is only one thing that I dont understand (sorry I am a noob), you said that the gp63 has the best screen for creative content (im a designer) but when I went to look for it I only find models that say "full hd 120hz 3ms wideview 94% ntsc color anti glare display" isnt that a fancy way to say a good TN panel, which means not IPS? Can you still do colour sensitive work on the omen? It looks so much better than the gp63 hahahah
Hi, sorry mate but i didn't notice your comment. The channel is growing up and i'm slowly losing control, haha. Well, if you gonna use laptop for content creation only you don't need fast refresh rate. Omen's display is 144Hz and MSI's display is 120Hz so that's not a big difference anyway but MSI has a little bit brighter and more color accurate display so that's why i said it's the best choice for content creation (ofc if we talk only about the laptops that i mentioned in this video). I think it is not a fancy way to hide the fact that it is TN pannel, these are just specs but not all. Beside NTSC color gamut GP63 covers also 100% of sRGB and about 85% AdobeRGB which is a lot. Omen has 96% of sRGB and about 74% of AdobeRBG so that's still a lot and in my opinion it's a good display for color sensitive work. The brightness is 329 nits for Omen and 340 nits for MSI so as you can see not a very big difference. Yes, Omen definetly looks better and it's more portable and if i had a choice i would go for it over the GP63. But note that the color accuracy that i was talking about is for 144Hz display. Omen also comes with 60Hz option which is much worse.
@@TechFinds Thank you for answering! Your channel is growing fast because your reviews are accurate and very well edited. :) I am a gamer as well hahahah thats why I am looking for gaming laptops with good screens. Here in Canada they sell the model with 144hz so thats the one that I am going to buy. Plus, it has thunderbolt so I can use external monitor. Thank you for helping me made up my mind (I am going for the Omen!), wish success!
You're welcome mate. Omen has also HDMI 2.0 and MiniDP so you can plugin a monitor into one of these too. Or go crazy and plugin even 3 at the same time, haha.
If it comes to performance there is no difference. Windows 10 Pro has only few more features that I never need to use but maybe you will find them useful. It all depends on your needs - just find some article about the differences between those two Windows OS versions and decide if you really need Pro. From gamer's perspective it's not worth the money. :)
@@TechFinds but what about thermals?.. HP gaming laptops have a bad name in the market for their thermals... And it also has single 1x16 gb whereas Helios has 2x8..
Single channel RAM doesn't affect every game, you can always add some ram in the future. If you update BIOS in Omen and set the "comfort" mode in Omen's control center app the temperatures are better than in Predator.
@@TechFinds thanks mate!.. Subbed already!... And one last question...do you think this laptop will last for 4-5 years for playing e sports games like pubg, fortnite, rainbow, far cry, be, blackout etc?
No idea, this model is not even 1year old so nobody can predict. :) Every device can get broken with time, it's just an electronic thing. Remember to use good thermal paste and change it at least once for 6 months and it should last long.
If you say so then MSI GP63 should be a right laptop for you because it runns cool and you'll have 120Hz. For a laptop with 60Hz display you would have to pay about the same price anyway so i think that it's a good deal. If you play moba you'll take advantage of 120Hz display too.
@@TechFinds Btw, after checking the price in my country the price of the omen 15,i7 1060 variant is somewhere near msi ge 73 8re and the gp 63 is cheaper by 300usd.
I want to ask your opinion brother. What do you prefer, a ASUS ROG STRIX GL503ge (1050Ti) or MSI GP62(1060) ,or HP OMEN 15 (1060)?.Please answer me. Im looking for good durability and performance.
Hi, thanks for commenting. So the MSI is like an old school laptop now. It comes with 6th generation of Intel processors when there is 8th available now and we're about to see 9th gen soon. If you like MSI consier the MSI GP63 which is a nice laptop - amzn.to/2xynbbu The Asus GL503 is good too but as same as MSI GP63 it comes with 120Hz display. There is newer generation of Asus - GL504 and this one is great. It has the fastest available display on the market right now and one of the most effective cooling systems in 15" laptops. If you talk about 2018 model of Omen it has 144Hz display but not as fast as Asus GL504. From those 3 laptops that you mentioned you'll get the best performance with Omen and also the best durability because it has metal chassis. It's also the most portable one. I wouldn't consider MSI GP62 because there are newer laptops that will give you much better performance for about the same price. I also recommend Predator Helios 300 (2018) - it is all metal and it's equipped with GTX 1060, i7-8750H processor, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD and 144Hz display. Recently it was on sale for $999, the sale is over now but maybe they will list it again soon. The normal price is $1200 that still makes it the best price-to-performance laptop out there. Check out my comparison of Predator Helios 300 and HP Omen 15 here: th-cam.com/video/WvV9_KPZY1A/w-d-xo.html
So should i buy This Or The Asus tuf.. thats shows in the video *i want that who start everything faster and with more FPS While Playing Games Like : Fortnite - Overwatch - and more..* So What Should i Buy?.. :]
You better don't go for Asus TUF FX504, it has crap cooling but there is never generation of it the FX505 which is much better. You can consider Predator too or MSI GP63 (i'll upload review of it tomorrow).
@@zbyy the tuf fx504 has poor cooling system- leading to power limited- it means you pay for i7 8750h- gtx1060 but can't use 100% of their power (2.2 to 2.5/3.9). Some people say it has been fixed with the new bios, but i cant find any review about that. the fx505/705 is claimed that it has fixed this problem. Not 100%, but acceptable. But it seems like the gm series (1060 6gb) is not available worldwide (or only my country lol =)), so u may have to w8 for a couple of months for it. Only 1050ti version right now.
Yes Omen runns hot, but if you undervolt the CPU by -0.130V the temps should drop by 7-10 degrees. Also repasting helps a lot. If you do it correctly and use high-end thermal paste the temps will drop by decent ammount as well. But this Omen is really hard to repaste because of build.
The Omen with 144Hz display is around the same price as Asus ROG Strix gl504gm ($1500) so if we talk about the same price, i would dfinetly go for Hero II. Why? Because it has even better display than Omen, it's even better than MSI that i mentioned in this review. Probably the fastest laptop screen in this price point. And it looks great.
Btw. Hero II or Scar II seems to keep lower temperatures than Omen. So that's my opinion, but the choice is yours. :) I talk about this setup: amzn.to/2xKRJa0 - It has the same specs as Omen.
Such GPU as GTX 1060Ti doesn't exist, there is GTX 1050Ti and legion does come with this card. I wish it had 1060 like Omen or Scar II, because Legion is a nice laptop also but without better graphics card you can't really take advantage of it's 144Hz display.
Hello again! I wasnt sure how to just message u independently, but maybe this info can help others too. Does a 1080 nvidia GPU risk a power throttle all on it's own compared to 1070 or 1060 just because of its design, or would it only cause power throttling if it is pushed to the limit. Trying to consider whether there is any advantage to getting a "less" powerful GPU if price doesn't matter... I am considering this for the new r4 and r5 alienware 17 models. TY so much tech finds! ❤❤❤
It all depends on a laptop itself. The BIOS of some devices may be programmed to throttle the power depending on temperature in order to cool down the GPU or CPU. Power limit throttling is not always bad because in some cases it helps laptop perform even more efficient. The GPU itself should not cause power throttling no matter if it's GTX 1060, 70, 80. Power brick should be always capable of delivering proper amount of power depending on GPU model and it's needs. I'm not sure if that's exactly what you meant.
Yes that helps again Tech finds TY! Are you aware of the 4K display on the Alienware 17 R4? If I dont want to game in 4K to not lose frame rates can i switch the resolution to something lower or am i stuck at 4k with a 4k laptop screen?
As in every Windows laptop you can change the resolution in display options. I don't know about this Alienware screen because i didn't test any Alienware laptop yet. I'm not a fan of Alienware/Dell laptops. :)
@@TechFinds TY tech finds :) I am really debating on whether I want to pursue buying omen 15 144hz, the leopard, and the Helios 300. You do a great job on your tech reviews and I saw all ur comparison benchmarks. I guess I'm wondering... With the new Bios update, is the cooling on that sufficient enough for gameplay? I'm kinda leaning more towards omen because of brightness, g sync, and looks
Today one of my subscribers said that F.07 BIOS update brought "comfort" mode in Omen's control center app which ramps up the fans to max when gaming. He said that he was playing PUBG on ultra settings and the temperatures were from 80 to 85 degrees so that's impressive but ofc you can expect higher temperatures sometimes. However it seems that in the end HP fixed the thermals but for peace of mind i would choose other laptop if i would like to have good cooling.
Hello Tech Finds...I am asking this of you because honestly your the one vlogger I know who responds back really well! I had a quick question on laptop battery. If I want to leave my laptop plugged in during gaming or use, should I take out the battery? Because doesn't it harm the battery when u leave the charger plugged in? Or if you have the charger plugged in, is the laptop automatically using the wall outlets power to run the computer programs? Ty again! :)
Hello, Good Evening. Can Hp Omen 15 CE031TX GTX1050 performs faster when you play a game on Ultra High video settings? Like GTA V, PUBG, Fortnite, BoF, CoD etc. Thanks.
GTX 1050 i much weaker than GTX 1060, so it won't perform faster unles you drop the graphics settings in most of games down to medium, in some cases even mix of medium/low.
@@TechFinds i have try kyronaut and after few days temps goes like 95c at 3.6ghz...not i use grizzly carbonaut and its max 92c at 3.6ghz...so im kinda happy with this
@@amel2091 People say "silicone lottery". For some reason my unit ran at mid 80s with -0.130V undervolt. You can also update BIOS and see if it changes anything. I've seen HP relased a BIOS update for Omen to improve thermals of Intel processors.
@@jessadakhimsook9431 sure, this display i good for that kind of job but if you want even better display Omen has 4k 60hz option too. This 4k pannel has 100% sRGB and 100% AdobeRGB but it's probably gonna be more expensive than 144hz that i reviewed and idk if you can find it on Amazon atm.
Now I own the hp omen 15. Before I had an msi gp73 leopard. Such an horrible experience. Thermal throttling all the time! 95 Cpu and 90 Gpu on every game! Did they forget to apply thermal paste or is it that bad?
Yes, sometimes the fans speed up when but only for a while. That's strange because browsing the web is not demanding task at all. As i said in the review they get louder than in other gaming laptops. When idle, they are quiet enough as for me but when gaming you will notice them for sure. I mean that's not a really big difference in loudness comparing to other laptops but it's noticeable for a person who pays attention to it.
Hard to predict, gaming laptops are not so good if it comes to battery life. If you drop the screen brightness down to minimum you should be able to use it for 3 - 4.5 hours.
That's strange, no info about refresh rate of this model on the internet. I bet you checked the same pages as me too. Hmmm, It would be good if you could ask the seller directly. RTX Omen's usually come with 144hz, especially 2070 ones. Idk if RTX 2070 Omen is available with 60hz display but I am not sure.
@@TechFinds Thanks for replying. I asked manufacturer the same question on Amazon, but HP is not replying to the same. Rather It has replied to other questions asked after it. Please Help.
I't depends on your preferences. :) If you're looking for a portable gaming laptop with good features, great display and solid performance, this one is for you. But if you mind fan noise and high temperatures, look for different laptop. In my opinion Omen is a good choice anyway because there's bunch of solutions to fix thermal issues in this model (if you experience any).
There's no warranty sticker on any of the screws so I think you can do it without losing warranty but for the peace of mind read your warranty card to confirm it. I can't be sure because my unit came without warranty card for test purposes.
I wanna buy one, i have a choice between dc-0042ur (8750h, gtx 1070, 8 ram, 1 tb hdd 7200rpm, type C without thunderbolt, actually I don’t even use it) and dc-0060ur (8750h, gtx 1060, 16 ram, 2 tb hdd 5400rpm, 256 ssd, type c thunderbolt) which one would you prefer? Mostly for games (like Pubg, gta5 and so on) for long run gaming like 5-8 hours. Both of them freeDOS, 1070 is better in perspective and i cannot add ram and ssd for 1 year because of losing warranty, and 1060 model already has all i need, but it’s 1060, can’t decide, so please
If you want to play GTA 5 for 8 hours i don't recommend this laptop. You definetly need better cooling! Recently HP struggles with BIOS optimization for Omen and in effect after one update it works ok and with the next update they destroy everything and it overheats. If you want to play CPU depended games like GTA 5 for this long i recommend MSI GP63 or Asus ROG Strix Scar (or scar 2) since they have cooling that can handle it very well. If you want check the review here for Scar 2: th-cam.com/video/XmBel3UuPJE/w-d-xo.html I'm actually working on MSI GP63 review and it should be published in one week max so you can check it too or find some other review now. :)
Tech Finds Asus zephyrus gm501gs and scar gl703vs are 2400$ in my country(i don’t have an opportunity to offer a laptop from usa or from anywhere else), it is much more expensive, but if it is worth good thermal temps while gaming I will go for it, which one would you choice? I feel like 17 inch better for me, but only if there is no big difference between these two laptops like thermals or screens, thanks in advance!
Ohh so if you prefere 17" Scar has that option with GL703 or 704. Scars are pretty similare to Zephyrus line of Asus laptops if it comes to specs and displays but Zephyrus is much more premium. If you don't want to pay "premium tax" go for Scar. But if you want a laptop with good cooling and reasonable price there is also MSI GP63 (15") or GP73 (17"). This one costs much less, about $1200 with GTX 1060 and 120Hz 3ms display. Check how much it costs in your country because if you don't mind design and plastic buiuld (except for metal lid) this one would be a good choice.
When doing basic tasks it hits up to 50 degrees and on the surface it's not even hot. When heavy gaming the average temperature is from 80 to 85 without any underwolting. In review i made a mistake because the BIOS in my Omen was not up to date what caused high temperatures in general. HP relased BIOS update that fixes the thermal issues of the CPU so if you gonna buy omen, check if your BIOS is up to date - i pinned a comment about that so you can find the link for update there.
No, this unit has no any lights on the top pannel. You must have seen HP Omen X 17 - this unit has RGB logo and strips on the lid. It is 17" model equipped GTX 1080 or GTX 1070 and overclockable CPU and it costs a lot more.
If you ask about 1050Ti model with i7-8750H, the temperatures will be comparable, because it's CPU thing. This processor has 6 comes - it is very powerful and it generates a lot of heat. Underwolting will be needed to lower the temperatures as same as in my unit.
If you want 15" laptop i can recommended Asus ROG Strix GL504GM (scar II) in terms of heat management. This is actually the coolest-running 15" laptop with i7-8750H that i've seen. Check out the review here: th-cam.com/video/XmBel3UuPJE/w-d-xo.html If you want lower temperatures you can also look for some 17" laptops, because they have more room for air flow thank to their size. By saying gaming for a long period of time i meant like 3 hours and above.
And of ot comes to your MSI i don't know - the temperatures are depended on many things. Amount of heat pipes, fans size and speed, thermal paste, thermal pads, device size, and even the temperature in your room.
I want to buy this year's model with the thinner bezels with a 144hz screen with 1060 GTX 6gb DDR5 with 16gb RAM but I can't find it with the 144hz screen anywhere but on CUK. Do they sell new products? Can I trust them?
To be honest i'm not familiar with CUK but i found some forum topic about them so you can read it too: forum.notebookreview.com/threads/computer-upgrade-king.675025/ I guess you want to buy it in the US, so as you said - this configuration is not available on US Amazon as for now (maybe someone will add in the future), but you can always buy it directly from HP store. The thing is that it may be a little bit more expensive. May i ask how much you want to spend for the laptop? Maybe you can find any other laptop with the same specs on Amazon.
@@TechFinds no I specifically want to buy this one and I want to buy it for Thanksgiving. I want it exactly with this specsheet: i7 8th gen the slim bezels (this year's model to be precise) GTX 1060 6gb DDR5 16GB RAM 1TB HDD 128/256SSD (I'm from India so I'll change the SSD later anyway and my friends are going to get it for me in the US cause it costs a lot more in India so I thought I'll better get the laptop from the US and pay them) with a full HD 144hz display. The thing is almost all the models in India come with a 144hz display as default and the 4k comes with 60hz since there's no need for a higher refresh rate on the 4k display. So, what would you suggest? Do you think the prices may drop for Thanksgiving there in the US so I could get the laptop with the exact specsheet as I mentioned above or should I just go for another one? I don't want to invest more than 1350$ in it cause I have to buy a phone to for which I should at least have 650$ after buying the laptop.
Well, if your max budget is $1350 then i think there's no better option to buy Omen if you find the one with 144Hz screen and GTX 1060 for that price. You can also consider 2018 model of Predator Helios 300 that has the same specs but it's much bigger, has decent port selection, only red backlight keyboard, not that bright display as Omen and it comes with 256GB SSD only if we talk about the most popular configuration for $1200. Within i'm gonna make a video with detailed comparison of these both laptops.
@@TechFinds well if I have to settle for the Helios 300 with the 144hz screen, I'd rather choose the Omen with 60hz. Is it gonna make a big difference? Or could I buy the older version of the Omen which offers all of it plus a 4k display with an 84Wh battery.
The difference between 144Hz and 60Hz display is collosal. However if your laptop can't provide 144fps in certain game then you cannot take full advantage of the display refresh rate. However overall experience of using the laptop with 144Hz display is much better (even if you only browsing the web). The decision is your bit personally if i couldn't find 2018 Omen with 144Hz and GTX 1060 for $1350 then i would go for Predator.
With this setup you will be able to play the games that i shown in the video with medium settings mostly. Some games will run at high, and other like Ghost Recon at low mixed with medium i guess. I suggest you to buy Omen with 1050Ti at least so you can play most of demanding games with medium settings and less demanding titles with high or very high.

Congrats!

One issue with this laptop is that the intel graphics are hardware disabled so whenever your not gaming this is chewing through your battery.
("Road to Tortilla Flat" will show up on my channel shortly)
This Omen-15 has the new BIOS.

I have problem with brend new omen. Batery drains from 100 to 0 in 2 days while it is not working. Any ideas?

Just remember to update BIOS and switch from "default" to "comfort" mode to reduce temperatures. :)
Tech Finds ❤️❤️❤️❤️
So, first thing to do when it comes is to update BIOS right away? Is it on HP support site?
fantastic review and very clear thanks.. i am buying the Omen :)
Nice to know! If you're from the USA check out the description because there are a very good deals on Omens with RTX graphics cards. They are even cheaper than GTX models!
This review was one of the reasons I bought this laptop 👍
Hope you enjoy Your new laptop now!
Just remember - If you have thermal issues with your Omen 15, necessarily check if your BIOS is up to date. Then change the mode in Omen's control center app from "default" to "comfort". You gonna get about -10 degrees less on the CPU! ;)

Thanks for your quick reply. So your advice is to get 144hz better than 4k 60hz? I have to choose between omen and asus tuf fx705ge. What you think ?
Great comparison bro. but in one of your video you said that HP omen has G-sync available ??? the video in which you compare hp omen with Helios 300.
Yep it's got G-Sync with 144Hz display option for sure but i don't know how about 1080p 60Hz or 4K 60Hz displays.
@@TechFinds Thanks for the quick response ! And awesome I will sure be checking that video out 👍🏽
Your video is one of the best review that i've found. So many important dedails :D
Can I ask you a question?
Yes, this should be the same display. The only differnce between relases for different countries is the storage volume, ram etc.
For me the 15.6” 144 hz costs only 1200 in the US
Isn't it a sale? A lot of sales is happening recently and black friday soon. :)
What about gsync? Hp manual sayz 1060 6GB memory + 144Hz should support it.
Yep i forget to mention. It supports G-Syns which is good to have with GTX 1060.
I'm very close purchasing a 2060 144hz omen, if you would kindly inform me about the thermal issues of that version, I can't find a proper review :(
It is not really different from the GTX models, since it's still the same chassis and cooling system. I general Omen runns hot, but there are few things you can do to decreas the temperatures to a de ent level.
@@TechFinds Can you recommend me how to decrease the temperature? My HP Omen is really hot... the temperature rise up to 99.
@@Ou71and3r you should definitely consider changing thermal paste for Thermal Gtizzly Kryonaut and undervolt the CPU

Thx 🙏. Watched all your reviews and compressing videos. And finally buy HP OMEN 15 with i7-9750H and Rtx 2070. It’s sooooooo good) Is it normal that temp in games about 80-85 c?
It is actually a good temperature for a gaming laptop.
Tech Finds Thx 😊 , I was worried about that)
Hi i have a question regarding the buttons on the touch pad, are they soft and mushy or are they hard? I need the buttons to be the same material as the keys which are soft.
Hard to say, they are soft as for me but other people may find them different way. I actually like them, because they don't require much force to click and they are made of rubber-like material.
ok thanks.
Can I upgrade the RAM by putting a 16g 2666 one in to combine with the original 8g one?
Yes, if you already have 1x8GB. You'll have 24GB RAM in total.
hey, loved the video.
i have the 1070 max-Q setup .The temperatures on ultra hit 92 degrees at max over long period of gaming
the thing i wanted to ask is would you recommend undervolting my laptop?
Sure, undervolting is always a good decision when your CPU temperature reaches over 90 degrees. It is safe and easy to do and in effect you get better performance and lower temperatures. In the video i mentioned the undervolting tutorial so if you'll decide to undervolt your CPU check it out (link in the description).
can you please tell me to what value you undervolted your ? i tried -150mV but i still see temp hit really high , and i also see thermal throttling
@@TechFinds the avg sits about 88-90
Like probably because I'm playing the graphic intensive games at maxed out setting more than those of recommended by geforce experience also(which themselves are more that optimal)

Check it out:
8RD (GTX 1050Ti): amzn.to/2V6D03w
8RE (GTX 1060): amzn.to/2IlFaKO

Tech Finds yes sorry, the 8RE! Good spot! I will go for the OMEN then! Thank you very much! I was 90% set on it already!
It's up to you. :)
Btw. if you are going to buy it on Amazon I would appreciate if you could purchase it via any of the links in the description. It helps me to grow my channel. Thanks and take care!
do you even use G-Sync on that thing? doesnt it lower performance?
G-Sync works automatically and it rather doesn't decrease the performance.

Hi
By any chance can you do a thermal update video on the HP omen 15, showing how the comfort mode works and whether there is a performance drop because of using comfort mode instead of the performance mode
Thanks!
Hi ,What do you advise me to buy acer Predator 300 or Omen 15 | According to your experience

Wow, so we just hit 1K, brilliant! ;)
You can carry it in your bag I would 100% recommend if you travel a lot
Ye, Omen is pretty portable. It's one of the smallest gaming laptops in it's class (if not the smallest).
@@TechFinds when did they do that and can I change mine with a warranty!?
I am a gamer as well hahahah thats why I am looking for gaming laptops with good screens.
Would there be any advantage to changing to Win 10 Pro on the Omen?
Although I heard 10 Pro has update issues
If it comes to performance there is no difference. Windows 10 Pro has only few more features that I never need to use but maybe you will find them useful. It all depends on your needs - just find some article about the differences between those two Windows OS versions and decide if you really need Pro. From gamer's perspective it's not worth the money. :)
Good video brother!!
Which is better, Hp Omen GTX1060 or HP 000
Which would you prefer between this and Helios 300..very confused.. Please help..
I like Omen more because it is smaller, and it has better features (G-Sync, RGB keyboard, Thunderbolt 3, better ports)
Would you recommend msi gl63? I dont really mind having a 60 hz screen as i usually play moba games only and wanting a more cooler laptop.
If you say so then MSI GP63 should be a right laptop for you because it runns cool and you'll have 120Hz. For a laptop with 60Hz display you would have to pay about the same price anyway so i think that it's a good deal. If you play moba you'll take advantage of 120Hz display too.

GL63 is just a cheaper version of this laptop but cooling system seems to be the same.

If you like MSI consier the MSI GP63 which is a nice laptop - amzn.to/2xynbbu
The Asus GL503 is good too but as same as MSI GP63 it comes with 120Hz display.

@@TechFinds Thanks .. i will wait till you upload it ^ - ^ ❤
@@zbyy the tuf fx504 has poor cooling system- leading to power limited- it means you pay for i7 8750h- gtx1060 but can't use 100% of their power (2.2 to 2.5/3.9).
Just ordered the 1660ti model for only $950 on a Black Friday sale. My only concern is the thermals. By how much did you undervolt to improve that?
Yes Omen runns hot, but if you undervolt the CPU by -0.130V the temps should drop by 7-10 degrees. Also repasting helps a lot. If you do it correctly and use high-end thermal paste the temps will drop by decent ammount as well. But this Omen is really hard to repaste because of build.
Omen 15 GTX-1060 VS Asus ROG GL504GM (Hero 2) ?
Which the Best? Please Need Answer.
I talk about this setup: amzn.to/2xKRJa0 - It has the same specs as Omen.
Thanks
Such GPU as GTX 1060Ti doesn't exist, there is GTX 1050Ti and legion does come with this card. I wish it had 1060 like Omen or Scar II, because Legion is a nice laptop also but without better graphics card you can't really take advantage of it's 144Hz display.
@mars on bass it depends if someone needs this port. I personally don't even use USB Type C so that's not a deal breaker for me. :)

GTX 1050 i much weaker than GTX 1060, so it won't perform faster unles you drop the graphics settings in most of games down to medium, in some cases even mix of medium/low.

Now I own the hp omen 15. Before I had an msi gp73 leopard. Such an horrible experience. Thermal throttling all the time! 95 Cpu and 90 Gpu on every game! Did they forget to apply thermal paste or is it that bad?
It runs hot but changing thermal paste should help. Also consider undervolting
@@TechFinds well I don't own it anymore because the GPU just died on that MSI
Is the laptop silent when at idle/light browsing? Do the fans turn on?
Yes, sometimes the fans speed up when but only for a while. That's strange because browsing the web is not demanding task at all. As i said in the review they get louder than in other gaming laptops. When idle, they are quiet enough as for me but when gaming you will notice them for sure. I mean that's not a really big difference in loudness comparing to other laptops but it's noticeable for a person who pays attention to it.
and what are normal temps while intense gaming on cpu and gpu
After BIOS update CPU temp while intense gaming is 80-90 degrees (without undervolting), and the GPU stays cool as always 70-83.

If i would use this one for school, how long would a fully charged battery give me? Not to play games but do some simple tasks
Hard to predict, gaming laptops are not so good if it comes to battery life. If you drop the screen brightness down to minimum you should be able to use it for 3 - 4.5 hours.

what is the second game you shown in minute 05:25
Do you mean this one with sniper rifle? It's "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands". It's an awesome game.
In the uk, the Helios 300 is more expensive than omen
Yes, and that's exactly what i said in the review. :) Thanks for commenting!
Hey does hp omen 15 - dc 1040 nr has 144 Hz or 60 Hz ?
That's strange, no info about refresh rate of this model on the internet. I bet you checked the same pages as me too.
Hmmm, It would be good if you could ask the seller directly. RTX Omen's usually come with 144hz, especially 2070 ones. Idk if RTX 2070 Omen is available with 60hz display but I am not sure.
@@TechFinds Thanks for replying. I asked manufacturer the same question on Amazon, but HP is not replying to the same. Rather It has replied to other questions asked after it. Please Help.
@@saritabhardwaj2422 I guess I can't do anything more than research. But I did and found no information about that.
@@TechFinds Thanks for the effort man.
Quick question guys! Been eyeing this laptop for a few months now, do you think this laptop is really worth it?
I't depends on your preferences. :) If you're looking for a portable gaming laptop with good features, great display and solid performance, this one is for you. But if you mind fan noise and high temperatures, look for different laptop. In my opinion Omen is a good choice anyway because there's bunch of solutions to fix thermal issues in this model (if you experience any).
Does the laptop lose the guarantee if I open it to upgrade the hdd?
Forgot to mention that 1070 cost 100$ more, 1060 is 1615$ and 1070 is 1715$
If you want to play GTA 5 for 8 hours i don't recommend this laptop.
If you want check the review here for Scar 2: th-cam.com/video/XmBel3UuPJE/w-d-xo.html
I'm actually working on MSI GP63 review and it should be published in one week max so you can check it too or find some other review now. :)
Tech Finds Thank you very much for the informative answer, I wish you success in everything!
How hot Will it get If you just use light tasks?
When doing basic tasks it hits up to 50 degrees and on the surface it's not even hot. When heavy gaming the average temperature is from 80 to 85 without any underwolting. In review i made a mistake because the BIOS in my Omen was not up to date what caused high temperatures in general. HP relased BIOS update that fixes the thermal issues of the CPU so if you gonna buy omen, check if your BIOS is up to date - i pinned a comment about that so you can find the link for update there.
Is the lid of the laptop where the red logo is and the lines supposed to light up? Just bought one, and it doesn't, but it looks like it should!
No, this unit has no any lights on the top pannel. You must have seen HP Omen X 17 - this unit has RGB logo and strips on the lid. It is 17" model equipped GTX 1080 or GTX 1070 and overclockable CPU and it costs a lot more.
@@TechFinds oh I see. This is still great for what I paid for It! I just wanted to make sure there was nothing wrongv with mine. Thanks!
CanDIEland You're welcome! Thanks for commenting.
What do you think about the temperature on 1050ti model?
If you ask about 1050Ti model with i7-8750H, the temperatures will be comparable, because it's CPU thing. This processor has 6 comes - it is very powerful and it generates a lot of heat. Underwolting will be needed to lower the temperatures as same as in my unit.
Oh so what do you think of msi laptop it has 6 heat piles.
Btw you mention gaming long period of time like how long?
If you want 15" laptop i can recommended Asus ROG Strix GL504GM (scar II) in terms of heat management. This is actually the coolest-running 15" laptop with i7-8750H that i've seen. Check out the review here: th-cam.com/video/XmBel3UuPJE/w-d-xo.html
If you want lower temperatures you can also look for some 17" laptops, because they have more room for air flow thank to their size.
To be honest i'm not familiar with CUK but i found some forum topic about them so you can read it too: forum.notebookreview.com/threads/computer-upgrade-king.675025/
I guess you want to buy it in the US, so as you said - this configuration is not available on US Amazon as for now (maybe someone will add in the future), but you can always buy it directly from HP store.
Hi , Intel i5-8300H, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Plus 128 GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Graphics 2 GB , Is a suitable choice of games ?
With this setup you will be able to play the games that i shown in the video with medium settings mostly. Some games will run at high, and other like Ghost Recon at low mixed with medium i guess. I suggest you to buy Omen with 1050Ti at least so you can play most of demanding games with medium settings and less demanding titles with high or very high.
Thanks you 💕
How long the battery holds on omen ?
@@islammekk1794 You've got this info in the video. 4.5h of light work and 1.5h of gaming.
