Hey Bob, as there is no Dynamic boost here maybe you can undervolt the gpu and see how much performance you can increase for that 3060. Would love to see your take on this!
@@nSackStyles I know that the temps are not a concern for the GPU but the heatsink is shared between CPU & GPU so temp reduction/increase in GPU temps will also have an effect on the CPU temps. By undervolting I dont mean just reducing the voltage of your GPU at its stock frequency. Lets say at stock your GPU runs at 1600 MHz on 1.050 V, you can do two things in this: 1. Undervolt your GPU and make it run at 1600 Mhz on .920 V. (Plain undervolting). 2. Overclock your GPU to 1800 MHz and make it run at the same stock 1.050 V or lower if possible. (Here I'm trying to get the max frequency out of your GPU at the lowest voltage possible, which is not just plain overclocking - this can increase perf while decresing temps).

The Omen 15 is basically an HP version of the Legion 5. They perform almost exactly the same in balanced mode, but in performance mode the Legion 5's GPU can draw more power. The Legion 5's 3060 can draw 115-130w in performance mode, which is an advantage over the Omen, since the Omen 15 can only draw 100w in performance mode. The Omen 15 isn't louder, it just has a dumb max fan setting. Overall, I'd give a slight edge to the Legion 5, due to the higher power limit on the GPU, but availability is a problem in my area, so I just got the Omen 15 5800H with a 3060.

I went to the omen forums and a rep said they didnt want the machine "OVERCLOCKED" and therefore dont allow it.....HOIW CAN THAT BE AN OVERCLOCK IF IT IS CAPABLE OF THAT MHZ ORIGINALLY LOL. If you’re gaming primarily, 16:10 isn’t ideal. I personally love it since most of my time on a laptop isn’t gaming. That’s where the translation is getting lost with many reviews and viewers. Some titles will offer the native ratio and that’s nice. Others will have black bars making the image smaller than a 16:9 15” solution. Others won’t play nice at all and just obscure the image. As a content creator, 16:10 and 3:2 is preferable for more vertical real estate.
I think HP made a mistake on the max fan speed on this thing. I was doing some testing on the fan settings, and I had less than a 1% performance difference in performance mode at 4300rpm fans, and 5900rpm (max) fan speed. At 4300rpm it was obviously a lot quieter. I think HP should have capped the max fan-speed at 5000rpm, which is significantly more quiet, and cools very well. There seems to be a few levels of power adjustment on the GPU side. Manual fans set to 3600rpm capped the GPU at 80w. Balanced mode with fans on auto, had a power limit of 95w. Performance mode allows the GPU to draw up to 100w. Manual fans, with speeds set under 3600rpm seemed to drop the GPU power yet again, but I forget what the setting was since it was insufficient to run my games at 60fps at that point. Auto fan modes can feed the GPU 95w or 100w, even if the fan speed is very low. While CPU temps are generally fine, if you're chasing after more quiet performance it helps to turn off turbo boost. I don't know what the deal is with that feature, with Turbo boost off, the CPU temps dropped from about 85C under a gaming load, into the 60s. I set a custom power profile, so I can easily toggle turbo off and on. In most of the games I play, turning off turbo boost has no effect on performance, since there isn't a CPU bottleneck. When you're at like 20% CPU utilization with boost off, its not a worry.
Can you elaborate more on the battery if you don't mind? I've seen people say they get a typical 5-6 hours just browsing with slightly lowered brightness. Is there full Aluminum body HP Omens and Victus Laptops? I do think these compete with MSI, Asus, Razer. Compare prices for similar builds from these brands. But the full metal body build of the gaming brands vs the half plastic build from the regular brands is one thing that separates them. Premium components but metal frames for the keyboard and hard metal body is always top of the line.

-mux switch, and therefore a noticeable but not crazy performance improvement. It definitely helps to have one, but not having one isn't the end of the world and you still get decent fps
Hey Bob, as there is no Dynamic boost here maybe you can undervolt the gpu and see how much performance you can increase for that 3060.
Would love to see your take on this!
Temperatures are not a concern for GPU here so I doubt undervolting will do anything significant. Overclocking might though!
Lets say at stock your GPU runs at 1600 MHz on 1.050 V, you can do two things in this:

Just got mine today, hope I did the right choice. The other contender was a Legion 5/5 Pro
Lenovo has been caught in so many scandals where they had vulnerability in the BIOS via tracking spyware Lenovo implanted . Affected Lenovos could be easily hacked. This is a few years ago. How is the keyboard staying so cool when the cpu hits 90°C?
Maybe i can answer your question bro. I got HP Omen too but with Ryzen 7 4800H and RTX 2060. So what’s under the keyboard, especially under the AWSD button is the RTX 2060 with dual exhaust, and it makes half of the keyboard is cooler than the other half that got Ryzen 7 4800H under because the cpu only have one exhaust so it gets warmer.
Love the Omen, but now I think the Intel 11th gen version would be better for gaming purposes. And it has thunderbolt 4 with usb charging unlike the Ryzen. Not having to carry the power brick is huge
Using USB to charge, you'll still need to feed it 200+ Watts. I doubt you'll be better off trying that.

@@BobOfAllTrades thank you sir! I love gaming but I am a content creator myself so your unique perspective is always appreciated. Thank you!
Great content brother
Thanks for the review.. An unrelated question: I see that you live a laptop life.. What's reason behind your not using an external monitor?
What reason should I?
I wish it had usb c charging
