1 - Gaming laptops with glossy screens are also desired, no need for OLED, but glossy to some looks 100x better in game, and in not-game. Matte is 99.9 of the options for gaming laptops, and that sucks. 2 - The bottom bezel is massive, relative to the other 3, AND has a huge gap. SO here's 4 big reasons why this machine isn't anything ideal. 4000hz matte screens and such don't gap-fill the major problems with gaming laptops. great reviews! you are doing us all a great deal of help. thank you for that. i do have one question, need help about choosing the right/better laptop: 1) HP Omen 15, i7-9750H/16GB/512GB SSD/RTX2070 8GB/15.6"FHD 144Hz/FreeDOS (7RY32EA) or 2) ACER Predator Helios 300 NH.Q53EX.025 / Core i7 9750H, 16GB, 1024GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB, 15,6" IPS 144Hz FHD PLS HELP. what matters to me is 144Hz, nicer graphics, not too hot and not too loud!
@Saltyros GT at the end I bought Omen 17 (2019), i7 9750H 16GB, 1024 SSD, RTX 2060, 17,3" IPS 144Hz FHD. It's been excellent for now, it's been a month.
I chose the omen, haven't had it delivered yet, but I was deciding between these to options, honestly I think the rog is pretty nice looking, but this one has a few things that I liked. It was cheaper, it has better port selection like thunderbolt 3 which can be used for eGPUs, it had a full numpad, and I like the look a little better Honestly I think you'll be happy with whichever one you pick since they have almost the same hardware. If you do decide to get the omen 15, I suggest applying a high quality thermal paste to help with thermals, I've heard it runs pretty hot. You can check out notebookcheck.com to see if they have a review for the exact model you want, they always have VERY in depth reviews on most laptop models

Quick question, I've noticed that a lot of reviews will already have the headset and mouse with the laptop so do they come with the laptop when you buy it? or are they sold separately? I haven't bought myself a computer or laptop before, and I've been wanting the omen for a while, however I don't know if the mouse and headset comes with it or not.
HP OMEN i79750 32GB RAM RTX 2070... I can play DCS (VERY demanding sim) @ MAX, not high MAX! settings @ 111-142 FPS👍 I tried to change views and pan around quickly to stress out the system... So I'm quite satisfied that my system will be just fine With Microsoft Sim 2020 and run it with either mid-high maybe high settings as it ate DCS for breakfast. Bottom line NVIDIA makes wonderful products and the RTX 2070 max q is a gem of a GPU💖
i got the 17" version with 2080, since the 17 isnt using MaxQ versions, and the price was unbeatable. At all, even 17" isnt enough for me, at home im using a 24" 144Hz QHD screen.
Ahmed T depends on the settings. Without undervolting the CPU is trottling down to around 3,5Ghz and max. 95 degree celsius on the cores. with a moderate 100mV undervolt im running a multi of 40 so stable 4GHz allcore with close to 90 degree. but i feel much more safe by using only 38/39 at allcore, so my CPu is always under 80 degree, even when using cpu/gpu at 100% load
Ahmed T but i would recommend to wait a bit for new GPUs, or look at 1660Ti/OLED screen Notebooks. Sadly they are mostly 15“, but if i had to choose it now after sending the Omen 17 to service already once after 5 hours of usage - i would recommend getting another notebook my screen backlight died already after 1 day, pretty poor i would say. Hopefully i had only bad luck
Great laptop minus the fact that HP ships it loaded with bloatware and you can't use the Bluetooth capabilities because they weren't smart enough to make it not interfere with the wifi reciever.
@@thibaldus3 I couldn't. Wiped the PC three times. Thankfully I don't need the Bluetooth so I keep it off. Many people have this problem, but not everyone. You can get rid of the bloatware, which takes a while but is easy enough, but sadly looking online hp laptops in general seem to have wireless problems which is ridiculous because well, it's a laptop. Idk anyone who uses ethernet on their portable, kind of defeats the whole point.

@@lloydturner48 I disagree because you're going to be thermal limited. My laptop already needs undervolting and power limits to keep under 90 degrees under full load. With a much more expensive and power cpu plus gpu with the same chassis, then you're probably not going to see much better results than what I have
Solid review. But I'm a disgruntled HP Omen 15 2016 user so here are my 2 cents. I hope they really improved on these things in the last 3 years though: 1. Hinges: my laptop did not have a narrow hinge like this one does. But even then, they came poorly aligned and over 2 years have made the screen bend on one side. 2. Serviceability: my laptop has a plastic body with a truly awful clamp system holding it together. You literally have to gingerly pry the keyboard off to access any of the internals. 3. Speakers: They are bad. Not that I expected them to be good. But Lenovo's gaming laptops have better speakers. 4. Screen: Specs look good on paper, but the actual quality is poor (colour reproduction, and brightness). Honestly, the screen on my entry-level DSLR is better. 5. Trackpad: Bad to begin with. Has stopped working after 1.5 years. 6. Integrity: My unit had a weird problem where it will literally blue screen if you pick it up from the wrong corner. After investigations, this seems to be a design issue where grabbing that corner flexes the base enough for hard drive to have a loose connection. 7. Power input: The barrel connector has already become so loose after 2 years, that it disconnects sometimes when I'm gaming, causing an immediate drop in performance. My point is that buying a cheap gaming laptop is a risky decision. You need to be aware of the places the company had to cut corners to deliver on the aggressive price tag. More often than not it will be longevity.
Speakers and screen are not perfect But totally ok. I think it also gets a little too hot on the cpu without a Laptop cooling pad, because the internal fans are not strong enough. Besides that the laptop is awesome. 5 of 5 for the price.
unlike the m15 r2, it doesn't have that shitty soldered irreplaceable RAM that is max 16GB. Wanted to buy the Alienware, and in the end got the Omen, 700 euros cheaper. I got the premium version, with 8 core i9 (100-200hz slower than the Alienware i9.. small difference), 32GB RAM, 2080 Q-Max. I think I would have preferred the Alienware (seems like better build quality, with a metal chassis, not plastic), but the fact that they don't at least offer 32GB RAM versions is ridiculous...even Apple offers it (it's expensive as hell, but at least the option is there).
@@danavram8437 How's the battery life with normal use (not gaming)? I'm really thinking about buying this one, but a little bit worried about the battery life.
@Ahmed Zwawy Haven't tested that yet. I rarely use my laptop on battery. Nevertheless, the previous model was quite bad according to reports. I knew this when I bought it, as it is not such an important factor for me. Apple Macbooks are probably the best when it comes to battery life. Gaming laptops are some of the worst (unless you want to carry a huge bulky machine). Otherwise, I was trying some Oculus Link VR from this laptop and 1. it was getting very hot, 2. there were huge frame rate drops at some point - however, I am not sure if this is due to thermal throttling on the machine or problems with the Cable (the official Link cable is not out yet, so I just used a 3.1 usb cable I had around). Also, I wasn't using one of the Thunderbolt ports, I have to try with those.
@@elzew1 So, an update to this. When using the laptop to the max, with max brightness, wi-fi, external HD monitor, 2 browsers with at least 50 tabs opened, plus Visual Studio, plus Unreal Engine 4, plus multiple smaller applications - battery life: down to 36% in about 40-45 minutes :)). Also, things run a lot slower when it comes to graphics if it is not plugged in, at least in my experience. Coming back to my previous VR comment, it works fine now that I am using the correct port and after the last Oculus update. I haven't checked the exact frame rates I got, but Google Earth VR, EVE Valkyrie and others were running smoothly.
@@elzew1 you wouldn't want to game on it without an AC adapter... The performance is just diabolical. But then that's down to the high wattage CPU and GPU. Ive seen about 2-3hours out of mine whilst: Very light gaming (old games) Web browsing Running a Mac os VM creating a bootable usb for use on another Mac. All at the same time. It's not bad.
I’m getting this laptop for Christmas!! I’m so excited. I know this is weird but I like to play both Minecraft and Fortnite! Do you know if it’s good for those games?
Please, this refresh rate stuff is basically a marketing gimmick. 240hz means every frame is visible for 0.00416 seconds, 120hz is 0.0083 seconds, 60hz is 0.016 seconds. Unless you play competitively and participate in tournaments, 60hz is what you need. For VR, you do need more, however.

Not a gamer...but wondering if this is overkill for 3d modeling and rendering. Also wondering about excessive bloat ware that you have to delete.
Im thinking about getting the 17 for music production no games.
@@ApexNYC same, idk tho 17 might be a bit too big to carry around. I hope in fl studio it doesnt get too hot like it does when gaming
I'm pretty sure video games are far more demanding on the processor than music software unless your using a ton of plugins and doing a large project. I did the research and for me this laptop in 17 inch is for me and keeps showing up in different lists and most of all NO COMPLAINTS ON LATENCY. I heard the I9 gets hot.Dont need that much power.I7 8th or 9th gen is fine.
@@ApexNYC planning on the exact same thing, i just hope the 17in fits on my desk at school 😂its also a shame that the hp store is so confusing as to which models have thunderbolt and which ones dont

I ordered this today . Comes tomorrow (: I should of asked this first maybe but can this handle streaming and playing warzone at the same time ? Thank you. Great video
it is now for sale at bol.com for 1200 euros, how come that they give this massive discount?
Thanks got the Ad hashtag.
What you actually pay for here is the American HP laptop, with the potentially good quality and QA. Per size, weight, specs, there are cheaper and also better options. Don't know about the keyboard and connections. Cheaper in the US anyway (Eluktronics Mag 15, Max 15 (with 2070 non maxq), maybe gigabyte Aero 15, Asus Zephyrus M, Asus Zephyrus S (much more expensive but with 2070 non maxq))
They should put at least two thunderbolt. How much is the max ram?
Comes with 16...max 32

Omen's 17 inch laptops are miraculous they cost 1979 dollars and have an RTX 2080 on board and an I7-9750H . I beg you review them !
i7 is so last gen..i9 is the way to go.
great reviews! you are doing us all a great deal of help. thank you for that. i do have one question, need help about choosing the right/better laptop:
1) HP Omen 15, i7-9750H/16GB/512GB SSD/RTX2070 8GB/15.6"FHD 144Hz/FreeDOS (7RY32EA)
or
2) ACER Predator Helios 300 NH.Q53EX.025 / Core i7 9750H, 16GB, 1024GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB, 15,6" IPS 144Hz FHD
PLS HELP. what matters to me is 144Hz, nicer graphics, not too hot and not too loud!
@Saltyros GT at the end I bought Omen 17 (2019), i7 9750H 16GB, 1024 SSD, RTX 2060, 17,3" IPS 144Hz FHD. It's been excellent for now, it's been a month.
Wich one should i get?
This lsptop? or xmg i9 9900k gtx1080? Im confused
Asus rog strix scar iii or this?? Both with RTX 2070 and i7 9750h.
I chose the omen, haven't had it delivered yet, but I was deciding between these to options, honestly I think the rog is pretty nice looking, but this one has a few things that I liked. It was cheaper, it has better port selection like thunderbolt 3 which can be used for eGPUs, it had a full numpad, and I like the look a little better
Honestly I think you'll be happy with whichever one you pick since they have almost the same hardware. If you do decide to get the omen 15, I suggest applying a high quality thermal paste to help with thermals, I've heard it runs pretty hot.
You can check out notebookcheck.com to see if they have a review for the exact model you want, they always have VERY in depth reviews on most laptop models
@@HCarda22 thanks for the reply man, appreciate it and suggestion noted. I decided to go with omen as well, decided to wait till Black friday to have any kind of discount (if any). And it(omen) comes with Gsync as well.
It would be also.e if you did a review on the hp pavilion 2019 with a i7 9750h and gtx 1660ti currently it's under £1000
Does it have 144hz display? Can you tell me the model no.?
it isa real great laptop. I bought the 17inch and rtx 2070 (not max-q) and i am using it for my work and gaming. it is performing great. powerful and as you consider it is cheap for it's components.
Brilliantly well done Excellent review

Which i should take MSI GL65 rtx 2060 or Hp omen RTX 2070 8 Go Max-Q for gaming
I just bought a 2019 model like that, except mine has a 144hz display
I have this laptop with RTX 2060 is that still good?
Just managed to pick up the 17-cb1002na intel core i7-10750h geforce rtx 2070 model from amazon for £1261.00 ..list price at the time was £1699...
however this was an open box sale so took the gamble as amazon offers a 30 days no quibble return.
Found it to be as good as new with no marks and is running very well "good times " note this is also of the 144 Hz display but it is 17".
Lower spec variant called the omen 15? Isn't this the omen 15 you are reviewing???
Lower spec is the RTX 2060... Available in the older shape.

Quick question, I've noticed that a lot of reviews will already have the headset and mouse with the laptop so do they come with the laptop when you buy it? or are they sold separately? HP OMEN i79750 32GB RAM RTX 2070... I can play DCS (VERY demanding sim) @ MAX, not high MAX! settings @ 111-142 FPS👍 I tried to change views and pan around quickly to stress out the system... Not much decrease 104-122 FPS!!! WOW, I'm impressed.
Kokainarienv0gel does it run hot?
Ahmed T depends on the settings.
Without undervolting the CPU is trottling down to around 3,5Ghz and max. 95 degree celsius on the cores.
with a moderate 100mV undervolt im running a multi of 40 so stable 4GHz allcore with close to 90 degree.
but i feel much more safe by using only 38/39 at allcore, so my CPu is always under 80 degree, even when using cpu/gpu at 100% load
Ahmed T but i would recommend to wait a bit for new GPUs, or look at 1660Ti/OLED screen Notebooks. Sadly they are mostly 15“, but if i had to choose it now after sending the Omen 17 to service already once after 5 hours of usage - i would recommend getting another notebook
my screen backlight died already after 1 day, pretty poor i would say. Hopefully i had only bad luck
Great laptop minus the fact that HP ships it loaded with bloatware and you can't use the Bluetooth capabilities because they weren't smart enough to make it not interfere with the wifi reciever.
Really? Can it be fixed? I just bought it.

Do you know if the 144hz panel has gsync?
I think all of them have G-Sync. I will have the UHD 60 hz display though (I don't really play MP games or do so very rarely, so don't need a greater refresh rate)
This is actually the RTX Studio model, not the standard Omen 15.
There's the 15t model in two versions: aluminium and plastic, maybe this is the first one with a customization
That's insanely good!! If only I had the money haha
Helios 300 or this pc?
This one has better specs but about $600 more

Model number cb1005 if your interested.
@@lloydturner48 I disagree because you're going to be thermal limited. My laptop already needs undervolting and power limits to keep under 90 degrees under full load. With a much more expensive and power cpu plus gpu with the same chassis, then you're probably not going to see much better results than what I have
Hi, all. Is it HP omen is the reliable laptop using for years? Whose HP owners are still running good for years.
With its specifications it's pretty future proof, and there's definitely room to upgrade it with more ram and another storage device.
Solid review. But I'm a disgruntled HP Omen 15 2016 user so here are my 2 cents. I hope they really improved on these things in the last 3 years though:
I have a i5 9300, rtx 2060 hp omen and it gets seriously hot, is it still a problem with this model?
That will be the cpu causing with issues. The i7 runs cool in this chassis....
Lol why. This hp laptop look like Alineware 2019 m15 r1
unlike the m15 r2, it doesn't have that shitty soldered irreplaceable RAM that is max 16GB.

Dude, there's no competition in 240hz display range besides the ROG's laptop... What competition are you talking about?
Please, this refresh rate stuff is basically a marketing gimmick. 240hz means every frame is visible for 0.00416 seconds, 120hz is 0.0083 seconds, 60hz is 0.016 seconds. Unless you play competitively and participate in tournaments, 60hz is what you need. For VR, you do need more, however.
