@@kareemosi-efa2418 To get a eGPU setup is costly with the card and the enclosure and they dont maximize the GPU's performance. So you are better off buying a laptop with a better GPU in the first place or using a desktop.

Same here! Got mine in the summer of 2019 and is still performing strong today. I plan on upgrading mine by the end of the year, though, since the 256 GB it came with isn’t cutting it for me anymore, haha. I also plan on upgrading the RAM while I’m at it, just to make it the best machine it can be.
Yep true dude I also still got this laptop I got in 2019 as soon as it came and one of the best gaming laptops never got me in trouble or anything but some things they got have made it better like the ssd they putted it 256 they could have made it 512 gb but I upgraded it and bought a new one and still a beast never overheated with mine but the cpu reaches 92

This guy is really good on reviewing laptops! He is one of the reason why I've bought Helios 300. Now, I'm doing some gaming benchmarks based on my personal experience on this amazing laptop. So far I've reached 70 degrees C while playing different games.

Helios 300 bought last 2018 until now still performing good. You just need an inclined position cooling pad to help the cooling system specially when playing games.

Franco , this 9th gen might come to sale again on sometimes near. I think it will be on sale may be on Black Friday or on Cyber Monday. So, if you can wait for upcoming deal, wait for it. Else that is also a great laptop.

i wouldnt say it looks good, it looks decent. but yes, for 1200$ it's a steal! highly considering in getting this, i really wanted the razer blade 15 but they dont sell the gtx 1070 anymore, i have no use for rtx graphics that puts +1000$ on an already expensive machine.

@First Red i had the previous Helios 300. Great performance but it was a picece of shit. Cooling was loud and bad and it broke on me. Procesor kicked the bucket. Had to return it and finally got my money back. I now own a Lenovo y540. It has tha same specs with rtx 2060. It's all plastic but way better built, quieter and no problems after 4 monts. Keyboard feels better, even the trackoad and speaker are better. Also battery life seems to last longer on the Lenovo. I would get the y540 any day. No Acer for me. Not reliable.

@@saaje2008 i would go for y540. Asus Rog have pretty bad cooling systems and they tend to run pretty hot. All of them. Check some temperature stats and see for yourself.

You got yourself a life time fan, i've been looking for 3 months for a low budget gaming pc, and was about to take a lenovo legion (had tested it at a friend house) but the i saw this vid and asked more about it, it is strangly known to be the best and can compite with the 2000+ $ ones but no one talk about it coz they won't sell the rest of there things otherwise, and now that i have it, maaaaan it feel soo gooood !! I've been using the new helios 300 with the 9750H and the 1660 ti, and man, let me tell you, it's amazing. It can handle everything you throw at it. I love it

@@phproud3541 I wouldn't know what to tell you in terms of video editing but the cpu performance is exceptional, so i don't think it would be much of a problem, and the display can get the job but I'd opt to get a really good monitor if you're doing really professional work. I hope this helps!
@Wow. If you're not doing some heavy gaming or putting too much stress on the processor it doesn't get hot at all, but if you do game for a long period of time, the top of the keyboard will get really hot. Even though it might get hot, it doesn't thermal throttle at all thanks to the stock undervolt. I hope this helps!

After 2 years of constant gaming/ mining and being used in a desktop fashion; I can easily say these are some of the most robust laptops you can get. They are too powerful for the input given to them and take heat like it's nothing.
I've put mine through some serious extremes and easily setup over 1,000 different laptops in my years of electronics retail. Take my word for it; Acer has come a long way.
Always super impressed about your content delivery. It's like you could just do the whole thing in one take.

Hey i owned the old predator 300 and it has terrible thermals and i think dave is right, the manufacturing is inconsistent. The way i fix it is rather easy, the problem was not the fans nor construction. There are three things you need to do if your helios have bad thermals:
1. Replace thermal paste with a higher quality one (i use kryonaunt and the temp drop to 60c to 70c and it used to be 94c to 99c)
2. Clean the fans, i open mine and it was disgusting.
3. Undervolt, very easy just use intel xtu. The sweet spot is -115.
You can find short guides on youtube if you are inexperienced, hopes this help.

Id like to add in that I've had the Acer Predator 17 since 2.5 years (typing from it), and it runs flawlessly till now. I previously owned an Acer Inspire 15, until I wanted to play heavier games. For anyone doubting the brand, Acers products are absolutely solid and I have faced no hardware issues. Picked up the Predator on Daves recommendation.
Yep I have owned the predator Helios 300 2019 model working like a charm still using the bad thing about it that the cpu reaches 92 but it doesn’t reach up to 92 only max 92 which is okay for a gaming laptop and I really play heavy games on this beast
Thunderbolt 3 is still really important to those of us who live in small apartments with roommates and don't have room for big bulky pc's

Apple are good with the displays other then that, you are paying premium for the brand and the operating system. They are also good for people who don’t care about gaming and specs. This is why college students tend to get a MacBook.

I noticed the Amazon issues and I have finally come to an conclusion, that Dave be honest, the products you get from Acer are always well tested and well maintenance. Basically well built but after the hit they throw shits in the market and people think they will get good results .. but if you reading this I hope you understand that your reviews impact a lot on the product values.

I know this video is old, but I bought my helios 300 about a year ago now. And wanted anyone looking at these reviews today to know how this device has aged. I bring this to work and game at work (yes I have an awesome job) and go hard for 12 hours a day, 4-6 days a week. I keep it plugged in and I have the turbo fan running all day long. All I use it for is gaming, and netflix due to not having cellular service indoors most of the time (and definitely not connecting to works wifi). With that said, this device, 1 year later is still worth every penny I paid. I'm getting great results, no new games has put any kind of significant strain on it. More than happy with the results. It's as advertised. I used to have a bad taste in my mouth for Acer being the "great value brand" of computers. Nope stop thinking that way when it comes to helios 300. The only bad thing is that fan is loud but if you have headphones it, it doesnt matter then, right?
Get a mouse for it, the track pad isnt terrible, but if you want to game with it....get yourself something youre familiar with. They keyboard is meh as well. Yeah you could probably get used to it, but if you consider yourself a hardcore gamer, get yourself a 1 handed keyboard. There are 2 USB ports on the left, and 1 on the right. I'd also highly reccomend getting an additional ssd. I bought a samsung 970 evo, and it was the easiest thing to install.
But yeah, if you havent decided on a laptop to buy, the 2019 model is still relevant, still great, and still reliable gaming laptop.( and probably cheaper than what I bought it for) Bottom line: Best 1200 dollars I've spent.

i am currently watching this on my 2018 17" acer predator helios 300.
I can confirm that on several occasion's the temperature was at 98 degrees Celsius BUT this will only occur in 2 situations:
First i notice this will happen in a demanding game since games use both processor and graphics card power to run (it is my theory that due to the heat pipes being so close the temperature of the processor and the graphics card are influencing each other raising the temperature) and when the processor hits about 40-50% usage and the graphics card is at 80%+, the temperatures reach the mentioned 98 degrees.
The second scenario where this can happen is when doing heavy rendering scenes (for example Archicad with about 50.000 high definition objects with the medium settings and maximum details on 1080p photo render image. This process will be using the processor at 99% which in turn will cause the temperatures to reach 98 degrees or even 99 EVEN if the graphics card is still at 0-5% usage.
This will not happen on graphics card renderings or when the graphics card is at 80-90%+ usage if the processor is bellow 40%.
I can say that even though the temperatures where high i have never experienced a shutdown while using this device extensively as my main driver for gaming and 3D rendering (i use this laptop every day for 10h+ on average) since November of last year.
The high temperatures happened in a fairly hot room (the temperatures during the renderings and gaming inside the room where at 40+ degrees Celsius although i think that the laptop was contributing much to this temperature, acting as a heater and raising the temperature quite a bit) the laptop also gets incredibly hot on the keyboard above the heat pipes and the processor/graphics card to the point where using the keyboard or touching this area will feel incredibly uncomfortable and you will be unable to do so for an extended period of time due to the intense heat.
Although i guess the heating should be better on a 17" laptop compared to a 15" version i can see why users of those laptops would be getting the 100 degrees Celsius temperature and shutdowns. Also the laptop is 24/7 on a cooler pad with 2 big ventilators which have quite a bit of power and they are turned on always when rendering or playing games. Also predator sense (acer inbuilt fan speed control app) is on max fan speed with cool boost on and the graphics card not on turbo mode.

I'm rocking the Predator 15 with the i7-7700hq and a GTX 1070. The thermals are just fine I'll get on it tomorrow and update you with my thermal temps while playing a game. I have Forza horizon 4, Fortnite, Stars Wars the Old Republic and EVE Online. Which one do you want me to run?

@@jonathanb1987 My predator 17 has developed issues over the years. It no longer wakes from sleep, just freezes forcing me to hard reset. If it's running on battery, it just randomly looses power instantly, it will turn back on but it can randomly happen again, dont know what causes it. Other then that the performance is still great for an almost 4 year old laptop. Could probably get another two years out if it.

Mike Hawk it’s pretty subtle, it doesn’t really make you look like a gamer or anything, the outside has a blue light on the back on the screen that comes on that is a little gamey but I bet you could turn it off, I turned off the start up noise in the BIOS because that was just too much, and youll see what I mean if you do get it but so far I really love it, I highly recommend it, I’m not sure about the other pc but I do know the Helios is a good buy

I give up now, I’ve been researching for weeks now. I’m heading off to college and have been searching for a laptop that could handle all my college needs with occasional gaming with no lag or problems. The thing is that I want something small and light, but laptops that are small and light aren’t really good for gaming. My budget is $1200 and I ran into this video and it hurts my soul cuz it seems like the gamer in me dream laptop, but sadly I don’t think it fits the college side of things and for that reason I’m not getting it which sucks. I think I’m just going to stop looking for a laptop with gaming in mind and just going to stick with what will benefit me in college. Laptop shopping is so damn stressing.

So pleased I ditched my desktop and got one of these. I can still hook up to my 1440p monitor and get some good fps with the 1660ti ... I've also ditched windows and installed Linux mint on mine... Loving it!

Battle so they say, but my Asus GX502 didn’t have any other option but the 2060, 2070, or 2080(I got the 2070). I’m sure there has to be a difference or they wouldn’t make any sales.
@@born2win259 plenty of comparison videos for 1660ti vs 2060 in laptops. see for yourself. the FPS jumps are there just not enough to justify the price bump imo
Battle oh , yeah I got the 2070. I literally just got the GX502 yesterday. I’m going to run it on some games and see what kind of thermals I’m getting. I’m really looking for a laptop with good thermals (or at least doesn’t burn my fingers with the keyboard) and I also want it for school. Will have to see if this proves to be sufficient
