    Hi Aaron, I really enjoy your videos. Very informative and helpful. I have the Livepro L1, and I wanted to mention a few things I found out about it. First, some people have mistakenly updated the firmware of the L1 with the L2 firmware update, which is not correct. There is another unit that Feelworld will soon be releasing called the L2, with the difference being it allows for controlling the movement of the connected cameras. The handling of audio for the L1 was limited since it only allows for either embedded (sound from the active HDMI-connected camera) or External (audio jack). Having the audio follow the active camera was useless since you would need to adjust the camera mic sound to match for each camera so it sounded consistent. But this issue was solved with the most recent L1 firmware update, where now besides choosing Embedded or External, you can also choose any one of the HDMI-connected cameras, and therefore have one external mic connected to that camera, and the audio will always come from that selected camera no matter which HDMI input you switch to. Again, thanks for your informative and well-produced videos.

      So the L1 can choose the main source audio playing while we change the angle of camera ? Lets say I have rode wireless go and should I attach on the camera or plug straight into the L1 ?

      @@DangLeProject92 hookup the wireless Go to one of the cameras, and then choose that camera as the source of the audio. The syncing of the sound and video will be better.

    After watching your review yesterday, I canceled my purchase of the ATEM Mini and bought the Livepro L1. I then discovered that they’ve upgraded the firmware in the meantime, so I feel I made a good decision. The comment you made that changed my mind was that the ATEM Mini has “too many buttons.” You said it diplomatically, but the point for me is simplicity. As a single user, the disadvantage of the L1 being limited to one audio input wasn’t an issue for me. Thank you!

    Great video. Your professionalism shows through in the small thing like syncing your audio in post when you had the feelworld monitor on multiview when talking about the features. (hands were in camera and then delayed on the feelworld) Its the little touches like that, that most youtubers wouldnt bother with, but just goes to show the difference between caring about your videos and just uploading content. Thanks for taking care of the details.

    I have the ATEM Mini, and I'll venture to say that multiview is not the main advantage of going for ATEM Mini Pro.. but instead the real advantage is having hardware-based encoding, streaming, and recording without having to rely on OSB or similar software.
    You can always configure the ATEM Mini to preview one source at a time (through HDMI out) by pressing the big 1-4 buttons. Not multiview, but good enough to see whats coming before taking the shot.

    Thank you Aaron. This video helped me to decide. So I have ordered Livepro. My config : Livepro for mixing video, Blackmagic intensity shuttle usb3.0 for capturing hdmi with obs, Microsoft Go for multiview over Livepro Usb output, Behringer U-phoria UMC404HD for sound. Audio and video can be synced in obs.
    Usb multiview on Livepro is clear win, so I can capture higher quality hdmi out.

    Hi, Aaron. Thanks so much for the great video. I'm a little closer to making a decision between the two but had a question. I livestream my music and use a focusrite scarlett interface into my computer so I think the audio capabilities of either are a non issue. However, will I see any latency by routing the audio that way and if I do, which unit would be better at resolving the latency? Thanks and I saved your affiliate links for either purchase.

    Very useful. But what if I have a scarlett audio interface and I want to send audio from there streight into the live stream for example OB, can I manage the audio separately without connecting it to the Atem or the L1? So in this kind of scenario I wouldn't use any audio source from the cameras, instead I would take advantage of my audio equipement in parallel is it possible basing on your experience? ☺ #DarkVanities

  • @WolfsHaven

    Had the L1 been available prior to my ATEM mini purchase, I probably would have bought that instead.
    That said, if nothing better comes out in the next few months, I'll probably buy an ISO. From the teardown of video another TH-camr did, there's still some expandability available in the mini line, even if they don't redesign the board and layout.
    Instead of or on top of adding monitor abilities to the USB port, I'd rather see it through the network cable. Then when someone is controlling the ATEM from another PC, they can do so from another location in the room or even outside the room and still see the feeds. Call it a social distancing feature.
    The feature I want the most is to be able to assign hot keys to the macros. Second would be put video (webm videos can be small) and even audio recordings in the media pool. Especially in the Pro and ISO models, where they are designed to be stand alone streaming devices. As it stands for many peoples needs, they still need to run the ATEM as an input through OBS or other software to stream the way they want.

    1) Does the L1 have "Picture in Picture" ?
    2) What is the "macro" capability of the L1? I use the macro function on the Atem Mini to switch between cameras and PIP without touching any buttons once it's running. This is a deal breaker for me if the L1 doesn't have this.
    Thanks in advance.

    So, I've had both models. I bought the Feelworld first, liked the T bar and TFT screen. The model I received was DOA. The Tbar on the Livepro had a broken sensor that couldn't tell if it was positioned to the left or the right, which effectively bricked it. The device won't work if the Tbar isn't to the absolute left or the absolute right. Took I back to the store where I got it from (B&H) and the cashier said 'Yeah...that's Feelworld for ya."

    Question ❓ what if you combined an Atem AND this unit to have more than 4 ports as well as eliminate the hdcp issues of the Atem?
    Best of both worlds? Or is there a reason the combo would not work?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that'd work great too! Only downside I'd see at that point is the L1 can't be controlled with the same macros or controller as the ATEM, but for handling all the switching manually with the buttons on each device that would work just fine!

    I’d take the ATEM simply for the added audio processing abilities.... the deficiencies over the L1 are a pain, but having great audio cannot be underestimated, and if you know how to set the gate, eq, and compressor, with decent mics, you’re getting GREAT audio within that tiny ATEM box....

  • @DJBigBobofTallOrder

    I like the comparison. I loved the t-handle fader on the Feelworld L1 and L2., as well as the multivideo screen. However, both have locked up on me during Zoom classes, causing me to reboot and have them lock up again. It seems they work very well for a short time, then start to act wonky. I thought it might be overheating, so I got a switch to turn them off (yeah, what's with these guys and no off switch?), and placed them on a twin fan laptop cooler. Didn't work. I don't have time to debug this misery, so I bought the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro. Hopefully, I don't have the same problem with it. We'll see!

    Hi and thanks for the review! one question: I'd like to use one of these devices to make video while I'm playing and singing. in your review you told that the ATEM MINI has a better audio than the L1... do you think that this could guide my choice? becuase I'd prefer the L1, but I don't want to have bad sound quality.
    ah one thing, I'll use an external audio mixer. thanks for your feedback

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't do any rigorous audio quality tests, but that comment was referring more to the tools and flexibility of the audio features between the two. For example the ATEM can mix audio from all 4 cameras and the two analog inputs at different levels and with the built in EQ and dynamics processing. If you're doing all your audio mixing in an external device then these two should be about equivalent

      Since the ATEM Mini Pro has only one HDMI output, you have to decide whether you want to use it for the multiview or program output. The good news is a recent firmware update has made it so you can get the multiview out of the USB port if you want, so at least you can monitor that on your computer if you want to now, saving the HDMI out for program.

      You can use OBS to add audio delay. What I did was record a stream, and also record on a camera, then doing a quick audio/visual slate of clapping your hands on camera. Then take the two recordings and compare them in a video editor. The camera recording would be considered the "true" sync'd recording between audio and video, while the stream recording would reveal the delay between audio and video. For me the delay was about 5 frames, or 208 ms. In the OBS software, you would add the necessary audio delay (in my case, 208ms). Just make sure the stream recording is the same frame rate as the in-camera recording. Even though I did this all manually, about 5-6 frames I think is the typical delay so if you don't want to go through this process, you can just go with that to hopefully get you close enough.

    I just don't know. I always seemed to like BD, but even the Pro can't do split output. This is really a big con. As for the ATEM allowing to adjust sound from multiple camera - during the interviews, you most probably are going to use some wireless mics, so your sound will not come from the camera anyway. All those ATEM buttons are not so much useful then. Wondering if Feelword, Cerevo LiweWedge or something from Roland is not the better option.

    Bought the Roland V-02HD based on your review. While I like the 4 multi-camera input/view of LiveproL1 and the ability to plug into the USB on my laptop for livestreaming without a dongle, I hate the fact I can't record separate video on another source like a video monitor/recorder. Recording on the computer just takes up more RAM and storage. I have yet to hear anything about Chroma Key (I use that for graphics in my Roland) or a screw assembly to attach L1 to my tripod. While the Roland has only two inputs I bypass this problem with an A/V switcher from Walmart to add 4 sources. Since I still need separate audio via a mixer, I guess my next purchase will be the YOLO in a year or so when the price is goes down. Thanks again for your reviews and tips!

    Main Big difference between the L1 and the ATEM MINI aside from the Multiview and the Audio Processing is the System or Software Side of things....
    In this category and price point nothing can beat the ATEM MINI.... Yes you can't do much on the Hardware vs Hardware side of things if you compare it with L1... but Man! with the software of the whole ATEM, there's a lot more flexibility there, you can do tons of things, setting keyers, Compression, EQ, Stills, DSK, network control, etc.
    IMO you need to ask yourself what you need the most or what's important to you... Multiview or the Flexibility of ATEM Mini. Other than that you have your answer.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll need to use an external recorder of some kind, there are lots of options, like the Blackmagic Video Assist.

    I've just received the Livepro L1 and with the first test found that it gets very hot - too hot to hold. It is running latest firmware and I tested with only 2 HDMI inputs.
    Has anyone else had this experience? Wondering if mine is faulty...

    Surprised no one else is bothered that they used a USB3.0 type "A" connector where it should be a type "B" or "C". Besides being non-standard, this requires an oddball "A to A" cable to connect to your PC. There are quality control problems with the whole ATEM Mini line, but Blackmagic is at least an established company that you can get some support from. This product (now called LIVEPRO L1 V1) needs to hit a lower price point to make it a better value than the ATEM Mini.

  • @ThisOldManOfTheSea

    I understand why you’ve compared the boxes feature-by-feature but isn’t there a key aspect which you’ve missed; the quality of the encoders and the resultant output? Both audio and video.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The HDMI output on both should be identical, the only difference would be in the webcam conversion. I'm actually planning on doing a separate video comparing the quality of a bunch of USB capture cards, and the ATEM Mini and L1 will be included in that!

    • @Strangepaper

    Good comparison. If the livepro is removing hdcp and it's able to capture into a PC then they are probably breaking the law and opening up themselves for litigation

    Aaron, I'm looking for a simple webcam switcher to use in my Skype music lessons. Would the Feelpro L1 work if connect my USB webcams with USB-to-HDMI adaptors? I use a separate mic, so the L1's skimpy audio features are of no concern. Thanks for your advice!

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There isn't really a good solution for webcam-to-HDMI, so that probably won't work. You'll want to upgrade to some HDMI cameras sooner than later if you want to do multiple angles.

      @johnmcclung4736 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaronpk Thanks. I have a Canon DSLR with mini HDMI out, and an old Lumix with what I believe is micro HDMI out. With adaptor cables, that should work with either the LivePro 1, or the ATEM mini, right? Do you recommend any other low cost cameras that would work in this scenario? Really appreciate your guidance, I'm a musician just trying to up my Skype tutoring game!

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing you want to look out for is whether the cameras have "clean HDMI out". I suspect the Canon camera will probably overlay all the camera information on the HDMI out. The Lumix might work but it depends on which model. The cheapest camera I've found that will get you excellent quality is the Lumix G7 (geni.us/sJFt) which is $500 including a lens. GoPros are a similar price but the quality isn't nearly as good for this so I'd stay away from those even if it saves you $50 or $100.
