Running a show tomorrow with live projector feed in house with song texts, live stream and singer song text presenter on the stage simultaneously tomorrow, as well as multiple live interactive Slido Polls. Didn't work with the ATEM for roughly a year, so it was the perfect video to catch up!
Great tutorial. I was trying to figure out this on my own, kinda following the 3rd method you explained but I didn't know H2R and was using Google Slides. But H2R it's much simpler and you explained how to make it work in the ATEM Mini Extreme. Greatly appreciated!
The ATEM Mini should take any camera that can output 720 or 1080. That should cover most cameras unless you're talking about suuuuper old cameras that might only do 480. Check the specs of the camera to see if that's the problem
Great video! Awesome they included the Photoshop plugin. That's super handy. Unfortunately my PNGs and even Exports to the ATEM aren't showing up as transparent. They've always got a black or white background... any idea what could be going on?
If you're using the photoshop plugin, first make sure your photoshop document has a transparent background, and also make sure the "pre-multiplied alpha" checkbox is checked.
@@aaronpk I've done both and it still comes up with a black or white background in the ATEM :( I may have to reach out to their support or the user forum.
Hi. How do i add text using lower thirds real-time while I switch across 2 camera feeds? Assuming I can bring in a feed from another computer where the text are selected or set
When you are overlaying graphics from one of the inputs using the upstream or downstream keyer, it will stay on when you change camera angles. If you're switching using the buttons on the ATEM you'll need to go into the setup app and choose "stay on with transition"
@@aaronpk thanks for the feedback. For example for a church feed, I'll like to set Bible verses or song verses as lower thirds in real time as they are being mentioned using a software like pro presenter which is on another system. How do I achieve this with atem mini pro? Thanks

Awesome tutorial. All I'm after is one transparent lower third that I can keep stored on the ATEM between powering on and off and call at will with a hardware button. Like you say, hopefully this will come with an update!

Thank you! Yeah I think it was really unfortunate that they have only one USB port on the original ATEM Minis, at least with the Extreme there are two so you can record and use it as a webcam at the same time! I just wish they had done that on the smaller ones too
I need to be able to just use the min pro ISO as a logo switcher. We do sometimes get Powerpoint video from clients as well. The HDMI ouput will be going directly down to our video matrix via a cat 6 balun, then to the tvs. Your comment about till images only worries me. Or did I understand that wrong. Got this working via the upstream key option before I found your video. Guess I need to do some reading on the difference between the upstream and downstream keyer options in the ATEM mini.

Thanks for the video Aaron. I'm looking ATEM Mini Pro mostly as a Chroma keyer (to key live taking head video shot on green against various video backgrounds) as as a web-cam for video conferences. Right now I'm doing it all in software on the laptop I use for video conferencing (ManyCam software on Mac w/ a AJA U-Tap to HDMI->USB). I'd love to get the Chromakey work off the computer. Since I want the backgrounds to be animated, it seems like an HDMI input is the only way to go. I'm wondering if you considered a HyperDeck Studio Mini as the HDMI source for the background graphics? I realize this is probably overkill.
That'd definitely work! I've been using the hyperdeck studio mini a bit lately to play prerecorded conference talks thru my computer as a webcam. There's a really cool feature with the integration which is the ATEM mini can control the hyperdeck so you can have it start playing when the ATEM switches to the input the hyperdeck is on. The hyperdeck can also be scripted with macros so you can load different media with physical buttons on your desk!
Hello Aaron, I was waiting for a product like Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro for a while and I am glad that they just announced it..I have already placed a pre-order on that one...I am also looking for a video where you are showing macro control using Elgato Stream Deck..i would love to see that one..Please kindly provide the link..
Aaron Love your videos. Is there a way to create a macro that tells ATEM MINI what graphic to use from the Media pool by number or name. For example to change Camera inputs and Chroma Key backgrounds. I would love to see a Macro Video on this can not find anything on TH-cam. Thanks.
I don't want to use the media player or software for lowerthirds. I want to use an input. Can I just change the DSK fill and key sources to an input instead?
Hi Aaron and thank you for all the information I found here 🙏 You are fantastic! I am wondering if there is some simple way how to switch between two RTMP sources. I would love show 60 minutes countdown but still, be able to prepare my ATEM Mini Pro setup for the streaming session during these 60 minutes. So something dedicated just for the countdown. I tried to stream from two devices with the same RTMP TH-cam key, but TH-cam gives me an error saying something like "there are multiple sources".. Thank you for your time ❤
60 minutes is quite a long countdown, I would suggest maybe limiting the countdown timer to 10 minutes tops, which would give you 50 minutes to prepare ahead of time. If you really want to keep things the way you've got it set up and don't want to add new hardware, you could stream the countdown timer to TH-cam's backup URL. When you're ready to go live, you'd stream with the ATEM to the primary URL, youtube won't switch over automatically, but if you stop streaming the countdown timer then TH-cam will switch over to the primary stream.
Great video Aaron. Applies equally well to the ATEM Studio HD switcher. You are right - BM Design has practically no training, although their support is good. Thanks!
Hello. I need some help. My graphic designer has built lower thirds for me using my custom logo. The files are PNG. When I add the files to the media pool they have a white background instead of being transparent. What are we missing?
Hello @Aaron, is there a app for the ipad that would allow me to send overlays and graphics to the atem mini. I want to use the ipad as a extra input into the atem and configure the atem with a macro to use that input for upstream keying while displaying overlays such as lowerthirds? Hope I am making sense.
Yeah! Take a look at H2R Graphics which lets you load the overlay URL on an iPad, and if you don't want to use just a regular browser, check out LiveApp's URL overlay feature!
Thumbs up to you. Just curious, on ATEM mini pro, have you had any weird false color look on channel 1 input? I found that inputting a wireless signal feed into 1 gave me the false color look. Same wireless into 2,3,4 were normal color. Hardwire all the way on 1 input yielded proper normal results. BMD had no answer for it. This issue also shows on their forum.
It depends on the color space the HDMI transmitter is using, RGB vs YUV. I'm guessing the particular wireless transmitter you're using is fixed to one color space instead of negotiating it via HDMI. Input 1 on the ATEM Mini is special because it can do a pure pass-through to the HDMI output. I'm not exactly sure how that overlaps with the color space issue, but must be related.
Am I able to overlay a corporate logo as a static and then lower 3rds or PIP as well? Could I do this by upstreaming the logo and downstreaming the lower 3rd?
@@samschofield8367 You could use one of the HDMI inputs to play media off a different device. But you're still limited to one downstream and one upstream source. Beyond that you'd have to look at different hardware, either the TV Studio which has more media players and sources, or get a second Mini and chain them together.
@@samschofield8367 I do see the option to use "Camera 1" as the fill source of the upstream DVE, and "Media Player 1" as the fill source of the downstream key. So if you brought in one of the graphics via HDMI you can do it.
Hi Aaron, wondering if the ATEM Mini could be used for simple travel video production instead of Live streaming. Appreciate your advise, please. Thanks!
The red outline means that picture is live on the stream right now. If you take it off the program feed it should let you change what's in the media pool.
Is there a a way via an API to load the media pool? I'm trying to create a "scene" metalanguage that will create companion buttons that will do everything I need for a scene ( flip between images (media pool) videos (playoutbee) using different super source layouts (Mix Effect), etc. I want to write everything in the metalanguage and automate as much of everything else as possible. I think the only way to create buttons is to edit the exported companion config file, add buttons and manually read it back in. Handling stills is a sticking point.
Thanks for sharing some really good info here. I just found out yesterday that if you use a an older mac that can run CamTwist with a capturecard in it like the Intensity Pro or a Camlink USB capturecard and route the HDMI out from the mini in to the capturecard you can do all that a little easier and even more and still use all what´s build in to the Atem Mini series. The mini will show up in CamTwist as a webcam.
Cool tips but for stuff like that I use good old Camtwist app in combination with my mini. This way I can play back mediafiles add more webcams, CamLinks etc etc too. I use a CamLink (USB3 to HDMI dongle) to get the stream in to my mac, HDMI output on the mini in to the camlink HDMI and them output via USB in to the mac usb3. The usb on the unit is USB2 only if I got it right.
So many things did not match between the video and my photoshop and Atem software control, but I got it to almost work... I see that your lower third has full opacity, but when i turn on the one I created, even if it is at full opacity in Photoshop, it only gets to a max of about 90% opacity in Atem... Between 2 frustrating programs like PS and Atem control, my level of frustration is through the roof...
Not via HDMI directly, but you could use the USB webcam out and full screen it on a computer using Quicktime or OBS for example. Also the new Streaming Bridge will let you convert the streaming output to HDMI as well.
since the atem mini or pro can be used over a network connection, and I won't be using obs or ecam etc, do i really need to use ndi? and also can I still use ReStream to broadcast to other channels using the atem?? Thanks
My question is how do I keep a logo on the bottom right while loading lower thirds on the left when needed? Can I do that all through the atem software or do I have to deal with OBS?
Yes, the webcam output will include all the graphics you've created in the ATEM Mini, the same thing that would be streaming will show up in Zoom. However, Zoom will heavily compress and shrink the picture so you're best off using it only for super large text like full screen countdowns, not for graphics that have small text or details.
I am confused about the dragging part of H2R graphics. My laptop is connected via Ethernet to the same net as the AMP - and AMP is displaying multi view via HDMI to a monitor. There is no way I can drag anything from laptop to multiview monitor with this setup. What am I missing?
@@aaronpk This was a massive brain fart on my behalf :-) I guess I have been super focusing for too long on A/V and the new toy and forgot the very basics of computing. Thanks for your swift reply and thanks for the channel. You are doing a great job explaining stuff in a clear and concise manner.
Hello Aaron thanks for this video. Can you make a video that show the diferen picture in picture ATEM does? I need to divide a screen in 3 parts. Two cameras and a pc windows screen. Is it possibel. Thanks
Another great tutorial! I saw someone using one of these ATEMs a few days ago, and they were asking their viewers for questions, then showing the viewer’s TH-cam thumbnail along with the question in real time. My mind was blown. I’m assuming they were using H2R Graphics, but I’d be interested in your thoughts Aaron. It was Curtis Judd’s live stream for two days ago.
That's a great idea! It looks like he didn't archive the live stream so I can't go watch his. I'm sure there are a number of ways to accomplish this though, check out my most recent "Studio Tour" video for another way to show stuff from a computer on the stream! th-cam.com/video/F7sHD1w0qxM/w-d-xo.html
Could also be utilizing a program called “Streamyard” which has the feature of showing the username, picture, and question built into it. Hard to explain, but what I can say is that this service is a perfect combo with the ATEM Mini.
I email BMD suggestions via the support system and they say they are happy for feedback and consider it while making changes. If many people ask for similar things, it might get prioritized.
Great video, thanks! I was using a Deity D4 mic directly into the ATEM mini audio port 1, but after you mentioned the lag, I attached it directly to my Sony ZV-1 and turned on audio for the Camera 1 input. Now I can't get any audio into my Zoom meetings - it doesn't recognize any mic. Any ideas?
That’s odd... which input your audio is set to shouldn’t have anything to do with what Zoom sees for audio devices. One thing to try is to monitor the audio coming out of the HDMI port (easiest is to plug the HDMI into a monitor that has a headphone jack) just to make sure your audio is working. Then if Zoom can’t see it it’s a problem in the computer, usually fixed by unplugging the USB or rebooting the computer.
@@aaronpk I was able to record the audio from the ATEM mini with Ecamm Live. Just not Zoom. Will try your suggestions - thanks for the speedy and clear response :)
I had the exact same issue getting the software control app (2:40). There was very little guidance from BM. Actually none what so ever. I found it very frustrating and disappointing. Even their PDF manual failed to give any guidance in this. It is a great switcher. But come on BM... your website and setup instructions are just horrible! Thanks so much for this video. Your channel is AWESOME!

I just start to explore the ATEM mini and your videos helped me a lot! Thank you so much! - Greetings from good old Germany. :-)
Thanks for all your amazing videos Aaron! I've learned a ton watching them. I know there's probably not much I can do about this, but one thing I *wanted* to do is be able to share my ipad screen during Zoom meetings. I have my camera and the iPad as the two HDMI sources. I realized though, when I switch over to the iPad, it's obviously not the same as sharing the screen. I guess the only option is for me to join the Zoom meeting on the iPad... Was hoping for some magic tho!
Hi, I got couple of questions to ask; 1. how can i lock the overlays? do i really need to press "key on" everytime I switch cameras? 2. I'm using windows, It seems like there's no full screen view for H2R. Its stills shows the title bar. Thanks and more power!
Do you know if the new mini Pro has macro programable buttons on the device itself? I haven’t heard anyone talk about this aspect except you. It seems clunky to have to mess with the software to flip in graphics. Thanks.

@@samschofield8367 You could use one of the HDMI inputs to play media off a different device. But you're still limited to one downstream and one upstream source. Beyond that you'd have to look at different hardware, either the TV Studio which has more media players and sources, or get a second Mini and chain them together.
Aaron Parecki but I can’t use different sources for the downstream and upstream.
Thanks!
For the H2R graphics and green screens, can you use luma key for the H2R feed and still keep the green screen keying elsewhere?
Hey for some reason I can't import media during a Livestream or update the media pool. There's a red circle around the #1 on the still
The red outline means that picture is live on the stream right now. If you take it off the program feed it should let you change what's in the media pool.
how can you add the overlays without using chromakey ?
Is there a a way via an API to load the media pool? I'm trying to create a "scene" metalanguage that will create companion buttons that will do everything I need for a scene ( flip between images (media pool) videos (playoutbee) using different super source layouts (Mix Effect), etc. I want to write everything in the metalanguage and automate as much of everything else as possible. I think the only way to create buttons is to edit the exported companion config file, add buttons and manually read it back in. Handling stills is a sticking point.
Edit the companion file with code, not by hand.
Super video Aaron, you deserve alot more viewers my friend !, greetings & Happy New Year from Copenhagen / Denmark
Really good. Thank you for sharing. ... and Happy New Year
Do you have a video on ATEM Macros? Creation and usage? If not, can you please do one? Thanks muchly!
Thanks. Putting lower thirds to good use tomorrow evening on our stream.
With the atem mini pro is there a way to have the multi view plus send another output with program full screen?
Not via HDMI directly, but you could use the USB webcam out and full screen it on a computer using Quicktime or OBS for example. Also the new Streaming Bridge will let you convert the streaming output to HDMI as well.
Great video. Thank you for making it.
Really clear tutorial - thank you.
This was very well done. Thank you.
Great tutorial and recommendations Aaron.
Very helpful for me!
since the atem mini or pro can be used over a network connection, and I won't be using obs or ecam etc, do i really need to use ndi? and also can I still use ReStream to broadcast to other channels using the atem?? Thanks
My question is how do I keep a logo on the bottom right while loading lower thirds on the left when needed? Can I do that all through the atem software or do I have to deal with OBS?
You can do it in the ATEM software. Use the downstream key for the logo that's always visible, and use the upstream key for the lower third!
Greetings_ I wonder if it is possible to insert the graphics during for example a zoom meeting (not streaming.) Cheers! :)
Connect an HDMI cable from your computer into one of the ATEM's inputs, then your computer will see it as an external monitor
Haha no worries! There's so many cables it's confusing sometimes!
CAN you have a video playing in full screen on a second monitor and key green screen to be in front of that video playing as opposed to a still
Kindly do a video on 2 more live graphics softwares: Holographic and SmartPX Graphics.
Hello Aaron thanks for this video. Can you make a video that show the diferen picture in picture ATEM does? I need to divide a screen in 3 parts. Two cameras and a pc windows screen. Is it possibel. Thanks
I'm going to try to demo this during my livestream tomorrow! You should stop by! th-cam.com/video/yaiY9tyGCj4/w-d-xo.html
I am trying to find the best setup to use openCV over a 4k video input which should go out on an SDI output. Could the ATEM be useful on that ?
In case Blackmagic is watching, I would love to have a "DVE follow's switch" setting. That would be excellent.
I email BMD suggestions via the support system and they say they are happy for feedback and consider it while making changes. If many people ask for similar things, it might get prioritized.
Really great info. Super helpful
OK, got audio from the ZV-1 to Zoom via the ATEM Mini when the ZV-1 was recording. When it wasn't recording, no sound.
hmm there might be a setting in the ZV-1 then. I use it with the ATEM Mini when it's not recording all the time.
@@aaronpk Thanks - will sleuth that.
Thank you for this Video. Do you use a telepromter to make this Video?
You are a great man. Thank you so much
I had the exact same issue getting the software control app (2:40).
Great video thank you very much
Could you explain it a little bit slower (especially for me. I am not an english native speaker ;-) ?). I would like to see you helpful tricks in a step-by-step explanation.
Hi, I got couple of questions to ask;
1. how can i lock the overlays? do i really need to press "key on" everytime I switch cameras?
Thanks.
Already packed and ready to go
Excellent stuff! I'm subscribing now! :-)
How about adding video clips for chroma key?
Sub and Like added BTW!
