    Great tutorial. Thank you
    Just a note on the ATEM Mini Pro & Photoshop CC2020: If one saves the files - PNG or TGA - with transparency, one has to disable the 'Pre Multiplied Key' option in the Downstream Key. Otherwise the transparency does not work correctly. The sample PNG files work OK. Direct export from PS to the ATEM works OK too. I did struggle to save a useable file from PS until I tried unchecking the said button on the ATEM mgmt s/w.
    Again - thanks for the tutorial and the reviews.

    Another great tutorial! I saw someone using one of these ATEMs a few days ago, and they were asking their viewers for questions, then showing the viewer’s TH-cam thumbnail along with the question in real time. My mind was blown. I’m assuming they were using H2R Graphics, but I’d be interested in your thoughts Aaron. It was Curtis Judd’s live stream for two days ago.

      Hard to explain, but what I can say is that this service is a perfect combo with the ATEM Mini.

    So You do not like OBS for graphics because You need a computer. But both other offered methods also need a computer.
    I think the OBS offers the best solution since you can use that for other things to.
    But it was great to see that there are other solutions too.

    • @Robinlarsson83
      @Robinlarsson83 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main difference is that if the computer that does the graphics dies mid-show, you only loose the graphics and can reboot the computer.
      When (not if) OBS or the computer running OBS crashes, the stream is dead and show is over until you can restart and get back on air with a lot of fiddling around.
      Also, it's a lot harder for a computer to encode video and run OBS real time and push it to the internet than it is to run a simple lightweight graphics software like H2R Graphics and maybe even something like Companion to control your Streamdeck.
      You could probably run H2R Graphics on a really small cheap computer, maybe even Raspberry Pi (think there is a Linux version of H2R Graphics now). Running OBS as encoder really needs a fairly powerful computer.
      It's almost always better to let dedicated hardware/firmware handle things that they can handle and use computers for the other, less demanding things, in mission-critical applications.

    OK. I understand all the benefits of doing this direct from the switcher. But the atem software crashes, as does photoshop, when I try to connect them. So much easier to just do this in Wirecast or OBS. I am finding way too many bugs in the ATEM. Having said that... your videos ROCK. So much better than anything blackmagic is offering. For me, you are the ATEM goto guide. And the blackmagic control has one of the worst UX designs I have ever experienced. Obviously made by developers who have no UX experience. So hard to use. Thank you for making it easier.

    Is there a a way via an API to load the media pool? I'm trying to create a "scene" metalanguage that will create companion buttons that will do everything I need for a scene ( flip between images (media pool) videos (playoutbee) using different super source layouts (Mix Effect), etc. I want to write everything in the metalanguage and automate as much of everything else as possible. I think the only way to create buttons is to edit the exported companion config file, add buttons and manually read it back in. Handling stills is a sticking point.

    Aaron, since you own both the Atem Mini and the Pro, I am curious if you considered daisy chaining them together to form an 8 channel switcher? More specifically, now you have two chroma keyers??

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick Allen Ive definitely thought about that, but haven't actually put it to the test yet. I think I'd be most likely to use one as a dedicated keyer, and the other for switching, or use one to just stream and add a corner bug or something. If I'm going to actually have 6 or more cameras I'd probably use the TVS at that point.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      60 minutes is quite a long countdown, I would suggest maybe limiting the countdown timer to 10 minutes tops, which would give you 50 minutes to prepare ahead of time.
      If you really want to keep things the way you've got it set up and don't want to add new hardware, you could stream the countdown timer to TH-cam's backup URL. When you're ready to go live, you'd stream with the ATEM to the primary URL, youtube won't switch over automatically, but if you stop streaming the countdown timer then TH-cam will switch over to the primary stream.

    There are no videos on youtube telling you how to create and implement lower thirds in OBS. All I've seen are videos selling their own add-on software. OBS has been no help.

    Thanks for the video Aaron. I'm looking ATEM Mini Pro mostly as a Chroma keyer (to key live taking head video shot on green against various video backgrounds) as as a web-cam for video conferences. Right now I'm doing it all in software on the laptop I use for video conferencing (ManyCam software on Mac w/ a AJA U-Tap to HDMI->USB). I'd love to get the Chromakey work off the computer.
    Since I want the backgrounds to be animated, it seems like an HDMI input is the only way to go. I'm wondering if you considered a HyperDeck Studio Mini as the HDMI source for the background graphics? I realize this is probably overkill.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That'd definitely work! I've been using the hyperdeck studio mini a bit lately to play prerecorded conference talks thru my computer as a webcam. There's a really cool feature with the integration which is the ATEM mini can control the hyperdeck so you can have it start playing when the ATEM switches to the input the hyperdeck is on. The hyperdeck can also be scripted with macros so you can load different media with physical buttons on your desk!

    Am I able to overlay a corporate logo as a static and then lower 3rds or PIP as well?
    Could I do this by upstreaming the logo and downstreaming the lower 3rd?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that should work! As long as you don't also need to greenscreen or show picture in picture.

      Is there a way to add a second media player?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samschofield8367 You could use one of the HDMI inputs to play media off a different device. But you're still limited to one downstream and one upstream source. Beyond that you'd have to look at different hardware, either the TV Studio which has more media players and sources, or get a second Mini and chain them together.

    • @samschofield8367
      @samschofield8367 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaron Parecki but I can’t use different sources for the downstream and upstream.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samschofield8367 I do see the option to use "Camera 1" as the fill source of the upstream DVE, and "Media Player 1" as the fill source of the downstream key. So if you brought in one of the graphics via HDMI you can do it.

    Thanks for all your amazing videos Aaron! I've learned a ton watching them.
    I know there's probably not much I can do about this, but one thing I *wanted* to do is be able to share my ipad screen during Zoom meetings. I have my camera and the iPad as the two HDMI sources. I realized though, when I switch over to the iPad, it's obviously not the same as sharing the screen. I guess the only option is for me to join the Zoom meeting on the iPad... Was hoping for some magic tho!

      What happens if the computer crashes in this case? You lose the graphics, but the stream stays up.

    You can actually use image sequences (max. length, fixed frame rate) in the ATEM software, which is basically a limited length movie.

    So many things did not match between the video and my photoshop and Atem software control, but I got it to almost work... I see that your lower third has full opacity, but when i turn on the one I created, even if it is at full opacity in Photoshop, it only gets to a max of about 90% opacity in Atem... Between 2 frustrating programs like PS and Atem control, my level of frustration is through the roof...

    Greetings_ I wonder if it is possible to insert the graphics during for example a zoom meeting (not streaming.) Cheers! :)

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the webcam output will include all the graphics you've created in the ATEM Mini, the same thing that would be streaming will show up in Zoom. However, Zoom will heavily compress and shrink the picture so you're best off using it only for super large text like full screen countdowns, not for graphics that have small text or details.
