    What do the properties in Clip Speed do? Duration, minutes, seconds, and frames? I see numbers in there but don't understand them.

  • @Justacheese
    @Justacheese 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was changing the number values at first and I didn't understand what I was doing.
    Every single time I changed the numbers It made the clip go faster.
    But now I'm going to pay attention to those numbers as I use the method you shown to slow the clip down.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Once you've added clip speed to your selected clips, hold shift (or ctrl) to select them in the Timeline. Once they're all highlighted, go into the Properties panel on the right and adjust the clip speed to whatever number you'd like (2x? 5x?) and they should all adjust. Tip: if you have your magnetic track turned on in the timeline you won't have to close any gaps.

    Hi, does the speeding up affect the audio pitch? I still have Camtasia 9, I like to slightly speed up my tutorial videos but then I sound like a chipmunck so I have to export the audio to Audacity, fix the pitch and import it back to Camtasia. DOes the 2020 version let me speed up a video keeping the right pitch with no need to external tools?

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First, have you tried our pitch effect in the Audio Effects column (now I'm wondering if that exists in v9)?
      As far as the updates go, the clip speed does not affect pitch anymore, no. So if you were to update that might solve the problem as well. (Feel free to download the free trial before committing to it) - www.techsmith.com/download/camtasia/

    • @simonepalla4180
      @simonepalla4180 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@techsmith Thanks, exactly what I needed to know before upgrading :-)
      I can confirm that there was no pitch effect in the Audio Effects column for v9; I can't find it in the 2020 trial either but the clip speed in v2020 doesn't effect pitch so I'm already fine with that.

      @@MarkGarrettBusinessCoach as far as I can remember I managed to reduce the video almost 25% (from 10 minutes to 7:30) because I was talking quite slowly; going from 32 to 30 is less than a 10% reduction (6.25% to be precise) so it should be fine. The only problem would be if you and the interviewee were originally talking at a really fast pace.

    How can you rename a recording? I prefer to change the default names.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Camtasia you can re-name it by right-clicking and selecting "Rename" however this only renames it inside the software. If you wish to rename the raw file, right-click the file and select "Reveal in Explorer" (Finder on Mac) and change it from the source. When you do that however, the file in the project becomes unlinked (since its source name changed). An error message will appear in Camtasia, close that, and you will have to right-click one more time to "Update Media" (or Update File) and find the renamed file.

    When i speed it up the frame rate drops so much that it makes the video unwatchable does this have a fix?

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This could depend a lot on how fast you made it, and how much you sped up into a short amount of time. There are only so many frames to show in one second (30) so if you take an hour of video and cram it into two seconds for example, it'd show nothing. Just depends what you're using it with. Also, try exporting it to see if it shows up better than in Camtasia.

    is there a way to slow down a part of a clip

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, follow the instructions in this video by getting Clip Speed from the Visual Effects tab, but if you only want it for PART of a clip, you will need to trim the piece of the video out first. Use the Trim tool ("S" on Win or CMD+T on Mac) on the start and end of what you want slowed down. Then make space AROUND that clip by moving the other portions of that video that you just cut away from it, then extend using the Clip Speed handles, and then bring the other clips back up against it once you have it where you like it.

    • @techsmith

      Without knowing your computer specs I'd first ask, do you know if you have a lot of RAM? 8GB or more? That would be one consideration. The other is sometimes it just takes time for it to catch up as the video effects render in the background.
      The last thought I had is a bit of a reach, but have you tried saving your project, closing Camtasia and re-opening it? That may be a simple fix (may not, but worth a shot and it's easy).
      Some people have had this experience once, and it never comes back, others say it happens all the time. A lot of it depends on your computer specs while running Camtasia (you don't have a ton of other memory-hog applications open at the same time do you?). Lots of variables at play.
      If you would like to dig deeper, our Technical Support team could dig deep into your specs and Camtasia to help. Contact them here if you're interested: bit.ly/ts-gethelp (Click Contact Us, click 'Contact Support', follow prompts to email or chat)
      Just a heads up that our response times are slower than normal due to increased ticket volumes, but they will get back to you as soon as possible.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting question. Had to test it to see, but no, it doesn't work unfortunately. The way Clip Speed is applied is as a Visual Effect, and Animations control Easing, so the two are not connected. There is a TH-cam video (not in English) that you can follow along as he manually creates a speed ramp in Camtasia and does quite a smooth job with it! th-cam.com/video/EK26pDOuJSE/w-d-xo.html (not our content)

    by increasing speed the vedio stops for seconds in between. what should i do?

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I understand you correclty, you will have to move the clips together on your timeline. If you've sped up a number of clips, it creates gaps, because what used to be one minute (as an example) is now 10 seconds. So that extra 50 seconds appears as a gap. You can ripple delete by right-clicking the space in between clips and choosing that option, or manually click and drag the clips together.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can see at 0:42 in this video how as he drags the clip to the left the second clip on his timeline isn't moving to close the gap. You will need to do that to avoid the break in between clips.

    Can I do Fast, Slow, Fast, Slow?

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! Just split the clip where you want to speed up, then another split where you'll slow down, and again where you want to keep going. Then just make the one sections clip speed faster, the next sections clip speed slower, etc.

      @end.z1067 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's broken to me because I can't change it if I do it it does it for the whole video, not for the part I want that's why

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you rewatch the video, you'll see he only applied the effect to one short clip and then sped that up. If you only have one clip on your entire timeline, then it will speed everything up. You'll first need to take out just the part you want speed up, by splitting the clip (put the playhead over the clip and either right-click the playhead to split it, or click "S" on Windows and "Cmd+T" on Mac). Once you've cut the beginning and end then you can apply the Clip Speed effect the way he shows in the video by dragging the beginning and end of that clip to make it faster. If you are trying to drag it out and make it slower, you will need to move the clips on either side of it so it has room to spread out.
      I hope this helps!
