    This is a great practice. For the longest time, I was AFRAID to visualize anyrhing positive - whether a past memory, or visualizing a good future. Because past memories made me think "oh, this was back when I didn't have pain..." I felt grief, it was hurtful to remember, thinking i wish it was that way again. Imagining a good furure felt like my expectations are too high and I'm just gonna be disappointed and it will not be possible for me anyways.
    But i finally overcame that fear and thought of especially comforting memories. I thought back to when I was younger and cuddling with my mom in bed. She's here for me through my chronic pain too, but i live far away from her and dont see her. I thought this would be hurtful too, but no. It felt incredibly warm and comforting imagining hugging with her and her being here for me and comforting me, this safety. This practice made me feel so calm, and while my pain didn't really get better much during it, it didn't rise, which for me is a success because funnily enough I've been afraid of positive images for so long. It did change my emotional state though which I count as a big win!

    I’m really glad I found this! When I thought of my calming memory it made me tear up, I think in comparison to the pain I was just focusing on. A good release and sign my brain wants to release the pain. Thank you

    This helped alot. I was getting relief but when I was asked to think of a good memory my mind started to spiral abit. I dont have many good memories, so I started freaking out about how because I dont have any good memories i'll never heal. My fear is obviously still very high. It brought up a great subject to journal about later on. Before I heard 'good memories' I was getting relief! So its just another sign this is neuroplastic pain.

      That's an amazing insight! I bet you, like me, get a lot of help from journaling. Writing about it helps you move the challenging emotions through then out of your body. I also found Chi Gong, havening ,and shaking and dancing helpful to move emotions out, after I sat with them and befriended them with somatic tracking - or if they were too challenging, doing the meditations first, and the somatic tracking AFTER, as Tanner recommends. Best of luck!

    So grateful for social media FOR ONCE ! Thank you for putting these up. We all know about pavlovian conditioning (dog and bell and saliva) and we can do this with our own brain in any positive way we choose but it never occurred to me. So grateful to have come across brain training. Whenever I think about work (was immense pressure before becoming chronically ill) it instigated immediate anxiety . I'm aware I need to break that to be able to go back to work / get better otherwise it will be a subconscious block to healing. Any tips or just keep this stuff up?

    • @painpsychotherapy
      @painpsychotherapy  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So happy my content is helpful. Yes, brain retraining, exposure, and nervous system regulation are key when I'm working with people to get back to work.

    • @thedancingdivaofdaviestree2320
      @thedancingdivaofdaviestree2320 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Visualization can help you get back to work. If you vividly imagine being at work and enjoying yourself, talking to people you like, accomplishing a task that makes you feel good - it can help you get over the anxiety. I did that for performance anxiety when my brain misassociated performance with a Covid nerve storm when I went back to performing too soon. Worked a charm! (And if by any chance you CANNOT think of a good experience in a work situation - your body may be trying to tell you something.) Sometimes these symptoms come to tell us to take action in a situation that's not right for us, whether personal or work. Tanner, that would be another great video - positive visualizations for work situations as you've done so well for exercise!

      @thedancingdivaofdaviestree2320 thank you. Most memories are from a year of no good memories. When we had no staff. But when I go back there would be more staff. But I'm still worried it will be awful like before.

    Amazing job Tanner. It is just not completely trauma-sensitive. Maybe you can help the practitioner by making him or her find some ressources for them before hand and make it a bit safer that way. Sensations can be very very intense and unfortunately triggering.

    Thank you for all you do on here Tanner.
    I'm suspected to have CRPS. awaiting diagnosis by Chronic pain clinic.
    Pain in both feet last summer, then burning too around the time my dad died, as well as moving from walking stick to crutches, and then the burning spread.
    I have other signs that point towards it too.
    X-rays & scan looked ok.👍
    I'm currently reading ' The Way Out' by Alan Gordon and watching lots of videos on TH-cam, especially yours after subscribing.
    I seem to be making a tiny bit of improvement.
    I just wanted to ask if all these methods of self help, somatic tracking etc, should help me the same as someone with straight forward chronic neuroplastic pain?
    Many thanks for your time if you've read this. 🙏

    Great content, thank you.. I have physical discomfort in my legs every night, preventing me from sleeping. Ive committed to this practice whenever this negative energy shows up in my legs. But at times the sensations in the legs does not have negative experience to it, just neutral sensations. Does it make sense to do this type of practice when the sensations are not negative (but in the same region where I experience the discomfort)?

    • @painpsychotherapy
      @painpsychotherapy  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question. Some people find this still helpful with a neutral sensation in the area, as a way to continuing to teach the brain this part of the body is completely safe.

    Do you think you can recover even though you have damage to your spine? Like the brain is still stuck and can eventually get out of it? I really want to get out of this pain! For me it’s a combo of DDD, autoimmune, CRPS and fibromyalgia. Are these just labels and meaningless labels?

    • @painpsychotherapy
      @painpsychotherapy  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This can vary person to person, however we often know now structural abnormalities in the spine do not equal pain. These could be important questions for your doctor. I have successfully treated people with fibro, DDD, and CRPS. Unfortunately I cannot confirm likeliness of if your symptoms are neuroplastic over social media. Sorry to hear about your symptoms.
