I'm fortunate enough to own both a 116610LN 40mm sub date ceramic and an Azzuro blue DJ4 126334. As a complimentary set of watches, they cover just about any event or situation.
The sub is probably the single best everyday watch made. It's built like a tank, and the ceramic bezel holds up very well with everyday and recreational use. While still being able to pull off wearing it with a sports coat or suit. The sub is also the more of an under the radar piece. If you're attempting to avoid unwanted attention,
or don't want to be too flashy. The Sub would be the logical choice.
The 41mm DJ is a much more dressy piece, the way the fluted bezel catches ambient light is just spectacular! So yes, the DJ41 is definitely on the blingy side.
So take that into account if you're just going to purchase one of the two.
It would be a very tough choice for me to make, between these two watches!
Both are so iconic and fill their roles in my collection amazingly well.
However, if you would put my feet to the fire, I would have to say the most practical and versatile of the two would be a ceramic bezel Sub.

Totally agree - sometimes the datejust 41 does have a sporty feel despite its dressy look! The beauty of Rolex watches is the diversity it comes with for sure!
