It’s my 40th. My dad wants to buy me a Rolex. Just one - one I will have for life. A Datejust, but I want it in the combination I want, not what I’m ‘offered’. Presumably the flippers/grey market dealers are the reason for pointless AD wait times and being ‘offered’ a watch. Great. Thanks.

Just got my first watch from my AD GMT Lefty, met my salesman march 2022 told him I want a GMT Lefty he said he placed me on there list. Stopped there every 2 months or so to chit chat about watches, got the call the other week and picked up my Beautiful GMT Lefty on a oyster bracelet with zero history and I couldn’t be happier. I hope this will be my AD for life
My local independent Rolex AD retired and the shop closed a few years ago and so my relationship went too. I want a GMT (don’t we all) so decided to play the game. Nearest AD to me was a Goldsmiths over a couple of years bought a couple of other makes which I wanted anyway and also bought a couple of bits of jewellery too. Went on the list in Nov 20 for the GMT and hoped to get the call at some point. Visited the store end of 2022 to check in and found that my history was no longer sufficient for a GMT and the history had to include another Rolex. Goal posts had been moved! The wife had always fancied a Yacht-Master 37mm so put my name down for that. 7 months later I’m still waiting for this and once this wait is over (I’m not holding my breath!) I will then have to wait further for the GMT. It’s the Pepsi I’m after and I guarantee that it will be discontinued before I get the call. Goldsmiths will still have all the money I have spent though so they won’t be too concerned. Funny old game this!
Unfortunate your AD retired! And extremely unfair your new one changed the goal posts. Unfortunately these are the games you have to play to get your watch from an AD with ever changing rules. I hope you get the GMT you want very soon, you’ve more than deserved it by now!
Really good advice. My AD lost dealership so i lost a 40 year relationship when in hindsight i could have had pretty much any watch. Went to new AD, asked for a steel datejust 41, grey dial, smooth bezel. Seven weeks later its arrived. I love the watch, it fits my collection perfectly and have now started a new relationship with a really nice AD, after i have to say a bit of searching through some appalling attitudes at some AD's.
Picked up the watch today and AD put me down for a sub and white gold steel dial oyster flex and told me to expect them in a very reasonable time frame ( both less than 12 months). Also bought the wife a beautiful set of diamond earrings which she desperately wanted. He knew my last AD and knew my spend with both Rolex and Porsche but without your advice on the datejust rhodium I don't believe I would be here today. Can't thank you enough for your advice including advising me by telephone to avoid the gold Sky dweller Oyster flex i was offered ( although to big for my wrist). Great channel mate I've put a couple of friends onto you. I hope and believe I'm making another great relationship with a very good and genuine AD. This time I won't take it for granted and will take everything within reason offered. My last AD used to regularly bring out trays of watches but I expected I could always buy what I wanted so passed many times on steel Daytona's and even passed on a Platinum Daytona. Once again thanks. Love your channel so much advice for new people to Rolex and even to us old watch collecctors.
@@davidowen2859I love your comment, we can see that you are truly passionate. A bit silly to suggest quickly flipping Rolex for profit in a beginners guide to getting them… if anyone reads this, if you flip, that’s an instant blacklist. You won’t get anymore
I recently got a DJ 36 as my first Rolex. It’s blue dial with stick hours, fluted bezel & jubilee. I don’t particularly have a very small wrist but I prefer that size over the 41. What an absolutely gorgeous watch. The only issue was, to buy that I had to get a Panerai. But in all honesty I love that panerai as well.
@@thehonestwatchdealer What would you say about a ladies date just with the black MOP dial in the 31mm fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet with diamonds on the dial? I got offered that yesterday.
Just got a DJ 41 on fluted jubilee with silver dial. My first preference was blue/green dial but honestly silver is a great combination. My very first Rolex and I am super excited to wear it for years to come.
I really don’t like that this game exists. But I appreciate knowing how it works. Just ordered a 31 datejust for my wife (for her to wear and love for decades). Hoping that brings me further up in my own goals as well.

I had no sale history and just had a really good conversation with my AD. I got a James Cameron in 10 days. It's a beautiful watch and I'm really happy with it and my AD for helping start my collection.
That is crazy, I bought my sub date in 2004 in the Bahamas for about 5k US. The wife and I just walked in off the street wearing our swim suits and started browsing over the Rolex watches, the sales person that was assisting us couldn't slap watches on my wrist fast enough, I ended up picking the Sub Mariner Date. The whole process took about an hour and I walked out of the store wearing my new watch. I can't believe you guys go through all of this just for a watch, it is just a bubble and it is going to pop, my advice just wait about another year and you will be able to buy any watch that want when you want it.
Incredible, those were the days! It will be interesting to see how it plays out over the next year or so, I imagine a lot of models will still be incredibly hard to source 👌🏻
Sad that everything is about how much something would go up or down versus a beautiful watch that someone actually wants to own and wear without thought of what it'll resell for.
I just got the mint green 41 on jubilee with fluted bezel as my first Rolex from the AD. I was offered a 31mm a few months ago and turned it down. Mind you I do have purchase history of a Cartier for the wife. So make what you want with that.

I registered for several watches. After a few weeks they offered me a yatchmaster 2 white gold for £23.1k which wasn't on my list. It's been over 2 years now since I bought it and they've never offered me another watch since.
I was in LHR airport duty free shop of Rolex and inquired about Tudor and showed interest and the sales representative showed me bunch of Rolex that I can buy. I am no watch expert and now look the price and feel they were more hard to buy and now even more expensive. The same happened with a watch dealer when asked about Tudor and saw Patek Aquanuat in 2016 when it was below £17k new and futher 10% off.
My first purchase was a Omega Aqua Terra small seconds 18ct tt, 2 months later got a Snoopy just buy walking in, no order or wait at all. Just bought a rose gold 1999 Omega Speedmaster on a crocodile strap with a 18ct Omega deployment..its a DayDate, month, and chrono..compared to a 1999 Rolex Daytona £15k-£20k you tell me....
Charlie, on the years of experience from customers trying watches on with you, what wrist size would you say a guy can get away with wearing a 36 OP, without it looking too small? Thanks
If we have spend with our AD should we try and get the date just 41 mint green fluted bezel with the jubilee bracelet or the date just 41 mint green motif w the fluted bezel and the jubilee bracelet. Which of the 2 would you go for? Perhaps it's personal preference. I'm not sure how sought after the motif dials are?
Great advice cheers - I was at the AD on Monday for my first Rolex, registered for a Sub Date got confirmation email yesterday that I am registered. Guess now I just have to wait for however long?
Steve this actually means nothing. Not trying to be nasty just honest. There is no “list” - if they know you and like you they will sell to you. It’s as simple as that.
When you find a Rolex AD do you stick with that specific AD or can you shop with other AD’s and still be recognized by Rolex as a client with buying history
I’d stick with that specific AD, it’s all about building that personal relationship with your AD that is eventually going to get you ahead of other customers. Once you have a bigger buying history from this, then it may well work in your favour with new ADs. 👍
The Rolex watch that I really want is just the dj41 azzurro blue. My one and done Rolex, back to other brands after that. GMT master, submariner both seem a bit basic to me

Thank you. That was insightful. I'm saving up for my first luxury watch and it has to be a Rolex. Hopefully within a year i'll make my first AD visit and I know what to look for.
Thanks for watching mate! Good luck on your Rolex acquisition 🙌
I just placed interest in 41mm DJ, fluted bezel, Black face, oyster bracelet
Great combination mate, hopefully you get the call 🤞
Accurate tips!! It does take a bit of patience. Bought a Grand Seiko & Norqain, a few months later got on the list for a Sub no date, 47days I got the call. Now on list for a 124270 and Pepsi jubilee.
What am I doing wrong, been waiting for almost 1 year so far
@@vinnyc126 that’s a good question. What we never know is how big the wait list is vs how big the AD is right? In other words, do some AD get allotted more pieces than others?
@@vinnyc126 …also what is your “spend”? Like in this video, do you have a relationship with the AD? I went to the biggest AD in my state to start my relationship.
@@aarons.stuffs My AD is brilliant, I supported the business by purchasing an Omega Seamaster, it's not the biggest spend but it's all I could afford at the time. I'm confident I'll eventually get " the call". I'm not sure how many more Rolex TH-cam videos I can keep watching.
Congratulations
I like the jubilee bracelet on my watches. It seems more comfortable on the wrist.
The jubilee does articulate around the wrist well making it feel more comfortable
@@thehonestwatchdealer I've been waiting 5 years for a Panda, now dealer has closed. I bought a blue Pelagos and Bat Girl from him over the last couple of years.
@@velvetjones1856 sorry
Great video. Loved to see all those beautiful watches and understanding the current market. Well done.
Thank you i appreciate it
Thank you for your great videos, I got the 36 mm mint green with smooth bezel because I have a small wrist, the fluted bezel was 1500$ more expensive which I couldn’t handle
You are welcome mate thanks for watching!
Still a stunning watch with the Smooth bezel, enjoy it! 👌🏻
Fantastic series of videos
Thanks George I appreciate it
Hi Charlie ive been the on the rolex waitlist for about 14 months now waiting for the datejust blue dial white fluted bezel and oyster bracelet hopefully one day might get one from the AD best of luck to you mate
Hope your get it Bradley good luck
@@thehonestwatchdealer I hops so charlie it was a gift to myself for my 60th birthday that was last year .so hopefully I'll get it before I'm 61 you never know 😌
@@bradleymcdermid3744 best of luck to you buddy! I would go in and see them and be pleasant and just enquire when it might arrive: if you let them know that it’s for your 60th and you have been waiting a while that may well play to your advantage.
@@Watchlover371 many thanks for the advice much appreciated
@@bradleymcdermid3744 no worries buddy. I think sometimes people are put off going in and having an honest convo. I think it will pay dividends ! All the best!
Datejust 36 with blue dial is the one for me. I'll visit an AD soon. What I do find weird is that it's not listed anymore at the AD's websites here in Canada
That’s strange .. good luck
Brilliant content mate keep it coming 👏🏻
Thank you mate, really appreciate that. Glad you liked this one, thanks for watching! 🙏
Stellar info and advice as always mate. Subscribers still rising at speed - great to see!
Thank you mate as always. Hope your good 👊🏻👌🏻
I am looking to buy my first Rolex and this gentleman really helped me to which one I should be going for ! Thanks
Thank you mate I’m so glad I could help!
Congratulations on getting your new watch 👌🏻
I got a rolex air king in December. My first purchase from the AD and was only on a waitlist for 6 months.
A great watch there to get as your first, well done! 👌🏻
I do like the mint green over the blue. Both are nice tho
Both are very nice dials
Wow! Mind blowing info. Thanks for this 👍
Thanks Ted glad you liked it
Thank you for the content I know it takes time and effort to put these out and I appreciate it
Thank you I really appreciate that! So pleased you enjoy the channel.
Straight to the point!
Just found your channel. Great info!
Thank you I appreciate that
I had to buy 6 Casios and 3 Timex before They let me buy the stainless steel Panda Daytona !!
😆
I bought a Tudor blackbay ceramic, even though I wanted a Sub 124060..
Took 18 months before I got that call. 😊
Very nice! Congratulations on getting the call 👌
Great straight-to-the-point advice. Enjoying the channel.
Thank you I appreciate that !
Best video I’ve seen from you, really helpful & informative!
Thanks Shaun I appreciate that
Nice will pickup my datejust 41mm Chocolate dial 10 daimonds in 2 days have been waiting about 9/10months
Congratulations mate, stunning model - enjoy it! 🙌
Great video!
Thanks i appreciate that
I registered for several watches. After a few weeks they offered me a yatchmaster 2 white gold for £23.1k which wasn't on my list. It's been over 2 years now since I bought it and they've never offered me another watch since.
Sorry to say but you've been mugged off
Go to the grey market and buy the model you actually want
Yeah they done u DIRTY. Sales person got a juicy commission though
Wow that's really interesting to hear mate, incredible to think how times have changed 🙌
My first purchase was a Omega Aqua Terra small seconds 18ct tt, 2 months later got a Snoopy just buy walking in, no order or wait at all. Bought a Seamaster, then speedmaster all with 20% off, then I got an Explorer ll white dial within 3 months. Now waiting on the new OP bubbles, hopefully very soon. Next year batman.
U won’t be getting op bubbles I’m afraid - that will be the most hyped of all watches and will no doubt be only in production for a year. VVVVVVIP only
@K B Spoke to the owner of my local boutique and was told I'd get one when they arrive. so I'm afraid your wrong.
@@KC14109 when u get it come back and tell me
Congratulations.. the bubble dial will be very limited numbers.
@@KC14109 You aren't getting that watch with that spend history
Hi Charlie
Great video as always. I spoke to you on the phone about a week ago and you gave me some great advice regarding which Daytona on OF.
Really appreciated it.

Got a Batgirl after 1.7 years. Bought two tudors beforehand but I actually wanted the Panda Chrono so Im happy.

Charlie ! Totally agree on the your Datejust Combinations !! I love the Blue dial !
My No date Sub ( 114060 ) will always be My favorite. No matter what I get in the future.
Great Info !! 👍
Thank you Doug 😃 No date sub is the best 🙌🏼
Great Video ! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you Andy, really appreciate it! 🙏
Hi il be travelling to New York and want to get a submariner date 41 in person. Any reputed dealers you suggest? Also how much should I expect to pay for grey market ?
Rolex jam tangan yg sllu jadi incaran.... Relend.
1:50 I got a DJ 36 mint dial, fluted bezel with oyster bracelet and it looks so much better to me than on the jubilee, more masculine & modern while the fluted bezel still does the classy trick of playing with light like a disco ball 👌
Hello, thank you for your valuable insight. Could you please provide some advice or perhaps create a video regarding women's Rolex watches? Specifically, which models retain their value and which ones are suitable for beginners?
Your welcome let me speak to the team 👍🏻
Just bought a rose gold 1999 Omega Speedmaster on a crocodile strap with a 18ct Omega deployment..its a DayDate,month,and chrono..compared to a 1999 Rolex Daytona £15k-£20k
you tell me....
I'm telling you, Speedmaster's trump Daytona's all day long!
Charlie, on the years of experience from customers trying watches on with you, what wrist size would you say a guy can get away with wearing a 36 OP, without it looking too small? Thanks
I would say 6in to 7in is a nice size for the 36mm range. But it is personal preference
Both lovely and you should choose which one you like the most. The motif does go for more money on the open market. You would be happy with either 👍🏻
@@thehonestwatchdealer appreciate the feedback and content. I do like how the motif looks in the light!
I got a call from the AD on Friday .....waited 7 months and got the Wimbledon Fluted 🙂
Congratulations mate that’s incredible, enjoy it!
@@thehonestwatchdealer cheers mate no purchase history just initial meeting and monthly email follow up ….

Great advice cheers - I was at the AD on Monday for my first Rolex, registered for a Sub Date got confirmation email yesterday that I am registered. Guess now I just have to wait for however long?
Congratulations! Hopefully you don’t have to wait too long! 👏🏻
@@thehonestwatchdealer cheers Charlie will be buying something from you I am sure as the collection begins to grow 👍🏻
@Steve Rigby You are welcome any time!
Steve this actually means nothing. Not trying to be nasty just honest. There is no “list” - if they know you and like you they will sell to you. It’s as simple as that.
Hi , thanks for your videos , great job 🙂👍
Question-
What Rolex watches would you recommend for quick profit under £10k
Cheers 🍻 K.
None. There is no money in buying watches grey and trying to flip them. Go an work harder in your job and stop trying to make 500 on selling a watch
love your video's!
Thank you I appreciate that
When you find a Rolex AD do you stick with that specific AD or can you shop with other AD’s and still be recognized by Rolex as a client with buying history
I’d stick with that specific AD, it’s all about building that personal relationship with your AD that is eventually going to get you ahead of other customers. Once you have a bigger buying history from this, then it may well work in your favour with new ADs. 👍
Very interesting and informative video 👍🏾
Thank John 🙌🏼
thanks for the video.
My pleasure Tony
What about the White Dial DJ 41? It is so Crisp and clean 😍
Sure is, on fluted and jubilee it looks so classy 👌🏻
Cheers mate great advice, will be looking for some entry models to buy.
Absolutely, get your name down at your AD as soon as you can. 👌🏻
The Rolex watch that I really want is just the dj41 azzurro blue. My one and done Rolex, back to other brands after that. GMT master, submariner both seem a bit basic to me
Such a great dial! Hopefully you can secure one soon!
Become a Customer. That's the most important thing to do. Rolex gives great customer service. They dont offer non-customer service.
Great info, thanks
Thank you i appreciate that!
Fantastic videos!
Can you help put the list below in order from the highest overlist to the lowest assuming they all have the exact same dial?
1. Flutted & jubilee
2. Smooth & jubilee
3. Flutted & oyster
4. Smooth & oyster
Always enjoy your informative videos, but note sure about your advice on accepting the bluedy and selling it to you for list as when I go back to my AD he will expect to see the bluesy on my wrist.
If it’s the only watch you have received then wait until you have bought more then sell 👍🏻
So spot on. I went to my local AD for the first time and asked for a Pepsi jubilee haha. I’m calling tomorrow and adding all those to the list that I’m willing to buy. Great job on the videos, extremely high quality
