- Hi Everyone!
This time I bring one of the most beautiful knives that gave me more work to do.
It is a recurved blade with a keyhole-style grip in a diamond shape. The damascus pattern is called "Flowers", and it takes a lot of work to forge, between cutting, cleaning, welding and forging, it takes two days of work, and then the machining of the knife begins.
The handle in fossil material increases the difficulty of execution, but confers a differentiated beauty.

Dessa vez trago uma das facas mais bonitas e que me deram mais trabalho para fazer.
Trata-se de uma lâmina recurva com empunhadura no estilo keyhole, em formato de diamante. O padrão do damasco chama-se "Flowers", e dá muito trabalho para forjar, entre cortes, limpezas, soldas e forjamentos são dois dias de trabalho, para aí então começar a usinagem da faca.
A empunhadura em material fóssil aumenta a dificuldade da execução, mas confere uma beleza diferenciada.

Amazing pattern and phenomenal knife, the video was too fast for me I actually slowed it down to x.75 speed to watch after the first few minutes as It reminded me more of some of your other videos at that speed. Still a great video though.

It is borax. Isolates oxygen and helps weld steel.

Very nice I love it! Maybe clear epoxy with ivory dust would of hidden your filling on the fit up as the black epoxy kind of highlights that area. Great job none the less.

You kinda glossed over the one part I was curious about. How are you gonna match the key shape? You made it look like first try eyeballing.
Sorry, in some parts I may have forgotten to film.
From the hole, I used the triangular file to mark the corners of the rhombus, and finished off with the flat file. Always taking care that the file works perpendicularly with the lateral face of the handle.
Then I glued the knife onto the flat ivory, and marked the shape of the keyhole. Then I sanded the ivory down to the lines.
Then I gradually fitted the ivory to the knife and saw where I needed to remove material so that it entered well.

This is a knife that will not require much effort, it will basically be used by the owner to take with him to barbecues. The mount isn't all that flimsy, and the grip material is insanely strong.

what liquid did you use to bring out the damascus pattern?
looks like two kinds of fluids
I use "cloreto ferrico"(in portuguese) to make relief, and "fosfato de manganês" to make it all black and protect the carbon steel.
The way he lits the forge 😂 gets me every time.

What is that knife dipping solution?
This is an acid. In portuguese we call "cloreto férrico".
You can use Ferric, Muriatic, or Sulphuric Acid. Each can give a different result.
@cutelariaharpia have you tried using coffee made from instant coffee after your acid wash? Makes the black pop even more.
