The handle alone is the finest artwork. I wonder how many people appreciate the time it takes to free those fine, adhesive designs. I felt your pain. Your blades deserve to be honored in the most personal way.

great work as always but looks a hell of a lot more like a scimitar than a cutlass to me. never in my life seen a cutlass with a blade wider than 2 inches.
The detail is extraordinary, to be called a Master Craftsman for this level of work just doesn’t describe it. In Japan he would be a National Treasure.
Stunning etch work, Freerk! You made it look so easy too! It looks fantastic and really compliments the cutlass perfectly. Definitely one of your best work yet.
Your skills are truly astronomical! I haven't found anyone yet that can even come close. Hell most of these dudes wouldn't even be worthy enough to work in the same shop as you, let alone compete against you!
Always wonderful to look to your craft, just a thought: we are able to buy LPG vessels for camping in the Netherlands, certified 80% filling. Cheaper than propane barrels
Alright so I watched a video where if you take modern high carbon steel it already has a homogeneous distribution of carbon and when you heat this up there are some impurities that are created on the surface - you can see him trying to remove these impurities with the auto belt sander but they are never completely removed as they are also below the surface. Over the course of heating this metal and cooling it many times the impurities build and the metal actually becomes WEAKER than it would be if it were not heated so many times. So the added strength of folding it is offset by this to the point where it is weaker than it would be if just left alone as stock due to the already homogeneous distribution of the carbon. (A long time ago folding was necessary due to the uneven distribution of carbon in steel blades that were not folded - they would break on the weak spots where there was not as much carbon. So they folded it to mix the carbon in with the rest of the steel and spread it out so there were no weak spots in the blade. This is not necessary today as we have much better steel.)
Now this is my idea of reality TV. I wish I could see you up on the big screen in theater near me! Beautiful job! I have always wondered though, at 10:40-11:00 what is the substance that you put the billet into and its purpose please? Thanks and I look forward to seeing your movies on the silver screen.
I'm not 100% sure but I believe he is increasing surface area when applying flux. The basic role of flux is to dissolve the oxides present on the metal surface and act as a barrier to oxygen by coating the hot surface, which will prevent oxidation. It might even be part of his signature pattern. Anyone else elaborate on this?
It's to make the raindrop Damascus pattern, you still through a few layers and then when you squish it all down the lower layers basically are exposed producing the desired pattern
Супер мастер,супер работа,супер изделие!!! Браво!!! Снимаю шляпу.

Это просто ахуительно)) Молодца! Hello from Russia!
Beautiful work but it looks quite heavy. How much does it weight ?
Haha it works as an axe or hammer. As well!
I was thinking the same thing… the hand guard could’ve been made with much thinner material and still served its purpose… it’s still awesome though!
Excellent work. A real beauty

What's the purpose of putting the blade between the wood before quench ?
That pommel is a thing of beauty! I'd totally have a threaded version as a gear knob, and I'm sure several hundred others would too...

At 57:25 mins the handle alone already look like a light saber, very Well made fit for a sith lord, pirate of the galaxy
Really admire your craftsmanship. And that cutlass is badass!
Beautiful.. Just beautiful.
What was the finale weight of the sword? ...... And where is the balance point?
im sure you have been asked this before, but why do you put a V when you complete your layers? and not an X?
Beautiful work!
The pattern is very beautiful.
You are a very creative person with a million views
Forgive my ignorance I’m a noob to knives and swords but I’ve always wondered why the serrated back part of the sword and or knife ??

@Tim Barter Sr. That substance is called borax, its used to prevent oxidation of the forge welds. So that the welds stay clean.
@@superiorrain9412 I didn't realize the stuff sprinkled on during the welding and the stuff in the metal bin were the same thing. Thanks so much 🙂👍
Haher si temolestas en darme precios por favor colega😁😐
Fantastic job, exceptional skills.
Each time I think I have seen it all, Freerk keeps amazing me.

the electrolytic etch was just stunning!
What is that sand like material he covered the blade with. Not the flux
Absolutely unbelievable
What does drilling into the hot metal on both sides do?
