We forgot to add it to the video but the engine turned out to be a 35 babbit engine. Bearings look good with no shims!!!
I can only imagine the sound and feelings of being at one of those drive in burger joints with the roller girls back in the 60/70s hearing all the boys pulling up on a great summers day, no internet BS people on their phones, or weird fads. Enjoying the time and moment. bliss
50s and 60s
Yup..
You got that right! that what I was doing back in the early 60s with my hotrod Flatty ...Busch's Drive In Tacoma WA.
The heart of a project is the engine. This one has a nice heart now.
I just love videos of new engine start ups and how all those parts you put in blend with each other. If its right you can hear it and if it's not you can hear that to. I have built hundreds of engine for drag racing, road racing and oval track stock cars and super modifieds but the thrill of hearing that first start up again brings it all back. When I heard you try the first start I thought flywheel interference, what do you know I was right. Here is hoping all of your start ups are great. I turned 81 this week so those days are long gone.😎👍
Thanks for watching Gary! Keep kicking butt!
That ole' flathead sounds sweet!
You can always tell how healthy an engine is by how crisp the throttle response is. Good job guys.
Great concept for a build- how about script on one side of the car that says “Ruined!” And the other side “Saved!” 🤓. And wow, you guys are getting scary good at the production and editing of these videos! How many hours go into that side of the result? And what a remarkable thing came out of the purchase of that property!
The 'Ruined Roadster' is such an awesome nickname for this '32. It'll be nice to see the end result! If anything, you blessed it by converting it back into a hot-rod!
Edit: That hose fail by Steve was hilarious! And the engine has come a long way with the upgrades and overall restoration, it will look beautiful once it's installed into the car.
A Steve project but shows how great your team is and has become. Mike with the parts and you as the tapper. Steve normally your helper, now you his. So good you didn't edit out the hose popping off. It shows how things really are. It keeps the human touch in. Cool engine and upgrade for the 32. Looks and sounds Bitchin.
I was waiting on this video this morning and was thinking then and now. We have to really give you, Mike, and Steve a lot of credit. You guys put out three cool videos a week for us of great content. Just even looking at this project is a lot of work. Good on you guys and thanks.
Thanks for the kind words!
Great job. Reminds me of my youth working on my flatheads.
Thank you Steve , Mike and Matt for update on the '32 Ruined Roadster ! That's a sweet sounding engine !
That is going to be a a an amazing hot rod . Really like the engine color matt. It will be purr fit under that hood no doubt. See you on your next video guys . Happy hot rodding.
SWEET! 50's memories...
Hi fellows, you guys are living every old man's dream! keep up the good work.
Rich
Thanks for watching!
The flatty sounds great .cool video 🇦🇺🦘
Steve is a talented mechanic, who made the rebuild process run smooth.
Nice! Sounds so good. Haven't had a flathead since Dad and I pulled the motor out of his retired cab over lumber truck and put it in a frame and wheels beach buggy, where it ran for many years. (Shortened up frame of a '50 Ford, welded spider gears and fat tires) Only about 58 years ago, but seems and sounds like yesterday. Thanks.
Oh man! That was so cool that I almost cam# in my pants!! Great job guys! Thank you!
Pretty damn kool, love the looks. Sounds great, straight pipes right out the back!!
Sounds totally bad ass!!! That thing's gonna be a little beasty!!
Hey guys, enjoyed the video, motor sounds great...Ralph
In my opinion your building dream machines . Very pleasing to see the end results burble into life.
Steve, nice work with drilling the heads. 👍
Matt, you and all your subscribers should tip a cold one to Marcelo Gandini ! The designer of the Lamborghini Miura, Countach, Diablo. Just heard we lost him yesterday. 🍻😔
Sounds and looks awesome! Great job guys.
G day Matt sweet sounding flathead look forward to seeing in the 32
Well done Steve. Good hack to remove the two broken studs. Mike what a memory about the difference in the flywheels and starter interference.
Over the past five years or so, we've witnessed Mike earn the equivalent of a master's degree in vintage Ford engine and body parts. Very impressive!
The motor looks great!
Gonna be a beast when it hits the road Matt.
I forgot about this project. What fun. Great look and sound on this one.
Very well done. Thank you
I’m Just addicted to this show!!!
Thanks for watching!
I like that green you sprayed on the engine
Me too ! So dark , you'd almost swear it was black . I like it ! will go great with the Roadster's color .
Beautiful engine, beautiful car. Reminds me of the old Jimmie Dolan song, "Hot Rod Race." Thanks for sharing.
* EXCELLENT !!! 👊😎👍
A sweet symphony!✊
Love it. great job Steve!
I gave up on extractors and iffy broke bolt solutions long ago. I recently did a stock 31 long 8 with studs seized to the head so blasterblasterheatheattaptap for 3 weeks still lost 9 studs. Then straight to LH drill 1 size under tap size through a drill bushing and re-tap.
Great work guys
Engine sounds great
"Ruined Roadster". That's almost a direct quote from my comment when you took the fenders off. I'm glad you're putting a hopped up flathead in it. Now put the fenders back on and you'll have a bitchin' sleeper. There's hope for you yet, Matt. Ha! Love ya, Brother.
Live it it sound hot like you would see in the 60th
Mike to the rescue!
That is going to make a killer power plant for the 32!
Great job Steve and Matt. That engine looks and sounds fantastic
Another of your best episodes!! 😆😆
Thanks for watching!
Really like the cars your doing dare I say inspirational
Steve killed it again. What a good looking and sounding flat head.
Looks and sounds awesome!!! Absolutely enjoy seeing your videos. Great job!!
Love that engine and REALLY LOVE the Ruined Roadster!!! We may have to talk about it one day when it's done!
It sounds great and complements to Steve
Great job guys awesome😊
Good to see Steve earning his pay....go Steve ! 😊
You just cant beat the sound of a good running flathead... good job guys
Sounds great 😊
I was wondering why you did not do a full rebuild with rings and new bearings? Great video !!!!!!!
sounds good!
Good job! I really love that color! and obviously the sound of the engine😉
Sounds good.👀
G-day and thanks Ric Haha certainly the music fits just before the depression Happy St Patrichs day ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️💚
Looks like fun, when you have good tools, and parts. Really enjoy Steve. You all are a good team.
Thanks 👍
I would love to see you guys on a modern-day machine shop with every single type of tool known to mankind you guys deserve it😊
You probably mean computerized stuff. They probably have no desire to use that junk.
Dude!!! Ya!! Nice to see the 32 green roadster!!! Flat head sounds tough!!! great video!!✌️
excellent video guys! old school cool.
Nice one, sounds great. Can hardly wait until you ruin another one!
You know guys every summer I have a guys weekend at my lake house, I send out invitations and the heading says, (and only this)
I feel a drunk front coming in !! And the date, and it always ends up to be a frig'n blast !!! That's how this video just made me feel . It's like an awesome build front is coming in !! It's going to be a great summer can't wait for the next project !! Thanks my brothers !!
Thanks for watching
I love the Ruined Roadster! My thoughts on that car since day one when you bought it!
I don't know if you ever heard of cool tool for drilling and tapping but it is the greatest oil invented for this process. Most industrial places have it like McMaster Carr etc.
It sounds amazing! Would love a flathead in a hot rod. I’ve got a SBC & SBF but nothing beats that sound.👌🏻
Glad to see an early 221. Mine is on the line for similar
Turned the flathead into nice eye candy that sounds healthy
In the wrap-up segment the gas can makes for an interesting roof line on the green coupe 🤓
Hey Matt and Steve, very nice work oruinedn the V8 for the '32 Ruined Roadster! The sound is so nice it is hard to believe! WOW!
And Matt, I'm really impressed with how freely you gave credit to Steve for all his work on this engine. Very classy, IMHO.
Not everything stock is boring, I have a Shelby Cobra 570 HP six speed all stock and far from boring. I have seven other cars all stock and lots of fun to drive, hot rods are cool but definitely not more fun than other cars that are stock. Of course you know that you have cars that are stock or slightly modified, and just like to pick on the haters. I watch for many reasons very entertaining.
We all need a Steve in our garage 😅
Cool great content - cool stud drill reveal - look forward to the next reveal.
I really like the '32 and this engine will really top it off. Nice work by both of you and it shows with the turn of the key. Looking forward to the future work. Thanks again for great content.
Watched this after a Steve Morris Engines video.
Two entirely different worlds.
Both fascinating.
Sounds killer. Seems really responsive.
For no more time it would take you should consider making some precision block off plates for the exhaust and other ports for painting that easily bolt on and save you the hassle of the masking tape. And once you have them made take them to someone who has a water jet table and make sets of them and sell them. If nothing else it’d save you a lot of time and hassle every time you need to paint a flathead.
Don’t worry, Steve is there!!
Engine is a beauty .sounds and looks killer! cant wait till its in the car.
Nice Machine work Boys ~ Vic Sr. would be Proud ! Amazing condition '32, just such a Super Score
Thanks 👍
@irontrapgarage HI Matt. Those heads were made by the John O’Neil, Denny lynch, and Jay yuskaitis. The Montello area roadsters. Brockton Massachusetts
Awesome thanks!
After you add the activator to the paint you NEVER put any activated paint back in the can. Now your whole can of paint is going to gel up & be ruined. When I saw that I was like "NO NO UGH"
good idea using the iron head as a drill jig.
The best pattern you can have is the one that was already in use . Agreed .
Once the crap blew out and stopped smoking it sounded super sweet .
Have you covered Steve's background in a previous video? We know you came from VWs and Eastwood, but I don't recall seeing much of Steve's bona fides. He seems to have knack with flatheads! I also would like to see more of the machining, but realize you guys are builders, not machinists. Thanks for great videos so frequently.
We’ll be doing a podcast with steve soon!
some serious Telecaster picking going on :)
Seek and Flir both make cheap thermal camera dongles to use with your phone. Way easy to see what's going on than a IR thermometer.
Whoever made up the name easy out? I've never had bolts come out easy😂using them
Drilling was the way to go ❤
I've also used left-handed drill bits and sometimes gotten lucky. While drilling the stud just walked out🎉🎉😎
Sounds very pepi good job guys canot wait to see it go ✌😎
That's cool! tuning a timid A ,to a sweet little Hot Rod!
AH so you took some of (mine ) your viewers comments about when you mentioned how you were going to dismantle the roadster and hot rod it! Ruined Roadster it is! But thats the engine I would've wanted to replace the 4 cylinder that came with it. I'm sure it'll be a cool ride for you guys to enjoy this spring!
Love this one. Love all the rods . But this one is going to be sweet.
Moon's coat!
Is Moon Dog sporting a Carhartt vest ?
Very fashionable.
Yep he dresses nicer than Matt!
U need a paint booth next ! Love the color ! What carbs, single bbl . ?
Do you have a similar car with a 283 chevy similar carbed you could take to the track. Wondering how the FH stands up.
sounds good
ford kicked ass in the heyday of hot rodding and still doing it today. been a ford fan since 1962 love the channel men !
For those wanting to buy parts from these guys the stuff I've gotten has been as described or better and prompt shipping at good prices.
Start the day with a hot shower, yup.
Mike has made the magic to Canada 🇨🇦 awesome also. Great rates and communication. Great parts.
Thanks for the kind words and the business!
