Dad's Daily Test Drive, The Free T Updates, & A New Ceiling For The Upstairs!!

  • This week we have a ton of projects we are working on, but none are worthy of their own video. The week starts off with organizing the shop to create a dedicated fab area where Mike's cabriolet was sitting. Matt also purchased a new sign to hang in the main stop. Steve has been hard at work getting Dad's Daily all sorted, so Matt and Steve take the car for a spin to see what else is needed. Matt has also been hard at work on the Free-T in the background trying to sort out all the bugs that have plagued the car from the start. Matt and the crew wrap up the week with installing the tin on the roof of the upstairs addition!

    Well I've been watching you guys for a couple years now. The amount I've learned from you is unmatched. Traditional hot rods have always been my thing. I'm 31 but I believe the hot rods from the 40's-60's were the greatest. Right now I'm working on a 74' Vega trying to build a clone of one my dad's race cars from the 70's. His first hot rod was a Austin Healey 100 with a fold down windshield and they dropped a 283 in it. That was back in the late 50's. We're all from New York and dad drag raced all the big tracks in the northeast. He would've loved watching what you guys do. Thanks again!

    Forget netflix, the Trap is way more entertaining.
    I really like these "day in the life of" episodes.
    Always something going on the fills in the blanks of what goes on we don't always see.
    I especially like seeing work done on his Dad's daily driver.

    Anyone can build a car, but The ITG crew isn't just anyone the small group of people in ITG have a huge skill set to where building or finishing a car is not a issue. You guys are building top notch Ford based rods that not only look and sound good they work good. I love watching this show, and I hope to meet you guys at a car show or something in the near future. Health issues have kept me away from the car shows but this year I hope to take one of my sons if not both of my sons to Carlisle. I hope to get to shake your hand as well as Mikes and Sams hands, and see some of your cars up close. The Dads loaner car build looks great I myself could not drive that car and look out over that louvered hood without a huge smile on my face, I'm sure your Dad will have the same problem too. One problem your Dad won't have is that you managed to make his car loud enough to be heard, and sound cool yet quiet enough to ride in the car and not have the engine drone enough that you can't talk in the car, and enjoy the ride. That car has come a long way. Sorry to gab so long. God bless you all, and I hope to see yo at a show soon.

    Another great way to do toe in is go to a hardware store and get two six foot square box tubes. Then Jack up the car level as possible and take off the front wheels and clamp the box tubes about even with approximately three feet going either direction. And then measure at the front of the tubes and the rear until you get your desired measurements. Did this on my 46 CJ2A and 62 VW Bug. Works great.

    Hope The Summer of Dad in 2023 will include him taking some clips from daily driving. You all are Awesome to honor your Dad to not only build that car for him, but to wait until it is sound & safe. Now all you need is an Escape hatch thru the office to upstairs. Say a ladder by the outside wall & a hatch opening so you can go up probably a main opening if course. you may be able to also put in a door above the ceiling line to the wall away from the house. You then could put a working hoist to possibly lift & put engines in the "Attic" & create even more space. Ty for taking us along

    Hint, next time you are starting a thread, example, that streeing rod, place the pipe in the lathe, then using the empty tail stock as to keep the die square, lock the head stock, then start screwing the die onto the pipe, at the same time, winding the tail stock in as you go.

    You need to use progressive linkage on the free T so you are only running off the center carb at idle, That is why it`s loading up at idle speed. The end carbs are for high speed use only. Doing this you can screw the idle mixture screws all the way in closing off the idle circuit on the end carbs as they aren`t used at idle. Might help at gas mileage also.

    • @IronTrapGarage
      @IronTrapGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s loading up because it has a giant cam in it. If jetted correctly you don’t need to run them progressive. This engine is built enough it can take the 3 carbs.

    The shop looks super now with the completed rods up stairs and so much more room now race car engines and street driving don't really do well together especially with a lot of cam overlap ,but jumping on it on a straight is where all the fun happens get rid of the florescence Lites and get LEDs the only way to fly they are so much brighter last longer and cheaper to run

    I worked at a Dodge dealership that had an office built into an open building. Like your office, tires were stored on the roof of the office. They had probably done this for 20 years until one day they opened the doors and found the ceiling, tires, and miscellaneous parts along with the ceiling inside the office. The good thing is that it collapsed over the weekend when the business was closed.
