Eighty-five years ago, this car was assembled at Ford, then shipped off to a dealer. FDR was President. This video showed the final moments of that vehicle. Imagine the different owners it might have had (three? four? a dozen?). It was beyond saving, but we got to see the bookend to that day in 1938 when it fired up and drove for the first time.
There is always a chance to save stuff like this, just gotta give it to the right kind of guy, with a lot of time on his hands LOL
Poor old 38. Though it's trash it still makes me feel funny cutting one down like that. Can't save them all.

If you have a spot on the side of the building to lean the roof on .... may be good metal to source for the upcoming Mercury roof chop.
I was thinking the same thing! I remember Matt saying he wanted to chop the '39 Merc and he needed a roof panel for that job.
At the very least, could had used the spilt window portion for another car rear window.@@edwardwerick2420

Wow . Not much savable on it , but perhaps enough to make it worth your while , as well as some others too . Glad you were able to grab a good engine core out of it , good trans , rad , & the dash goodies , for your 38 convertible . I hope you use the horizontal V8 emblems , those are cool , along with the other trim pieces you were able to get/find saved . One year only , is a nice option to have parts for . I would be interested in seeing that engine run , if it turns out to be worth it . That would be the "cake" , the icing being the trim & dash pieces . A wise call putting Moon Dog inside for that project . Just safer for him . A lot of work , but well worth it for the parts saved . Great job , ITG !

Those front fenders look like my 1972 Chevy Vega's did after its 1st Minnesota winter.

I thought tht the sheet metal around the split bacl window would be of some interest to someone building a custom.
i'm sure that i'm not the only one to think this but please cut the rusty belts off before trying to see if the engine is free or not, it really makes a difference.. love your channel.

I'd say you did a good job of salvaging everything you could off that dissolved Ford. I'm glad you did because a Ford 1938 deluxe is rare. 1938 was a severe economic recession year, and Detroit sales took a hard hit. No matter how rusty the rest of the car is, the stainless trim should be good. Deluxe 1938 front ends were used as standard series front ends on Fords in 1939. I'm glad the 59AB block looks like it could be saveable. They are better than the earlier v8 blocks.
That 59 AB seems to be the best flathead overall. Yes, the 8BA has some good points, but it seems crack-prone.
The drivers side fender looks very usable as well as the drives side rear fender.
Save that rusty fender great wall hanger. Never seen one that bad. All the best guys enjoy your site.

If the engine is savable that added to the parts you needed that you harvested makes the enterprise worthwhile.
They make this stuff called penatrating oil and if you soak rusty bolts in it. They come off alot easier 👍
You have a lot more time on your hands than we do when parting out a car I guess…

I was Joking! But , I have seen some ratrods worse than this. I agree with you on parting it out. I bought a 38 rear split window on ebay and grafted it on my 31 Model A project . @@terry3665 👍

If the innards of the engine are OK, maybe some sandblasting on the outside components of the engine will clean it up??
That thing was so rusty, after watching I went and got a tetnus shot.
