Something to add to your junk draw.
I buy it when it's on ebay for $50
All the features shown are essentially offered on a mobile phone.
No smartphone has built in generative assistant.
More like quarter of smartphone can do. This should have been marketed as a gimmick pokemon toy for kids
@@SeanTube2099 Rabbit R1 also does not have a built in generate assistant. It cannot do anything, even answer trivia questions, without access to the cloud. Exactly like a smartphone. All of the generative AI components it uses live on servers in the cloud, not on the device. And you can just as easily use ChatGPT or some other generative AI app on your phone which will also use generative AI components that live on servers in the cloud.
@@toututu2993 Yeah, my smartphone can do quarter of what my desktop PC can do. I guess I will just throw away my phone. Oh wait, they serve a different purpose. Clown.
@@SeanTube2099 The assistant on it sounds like Siri lmao
An app in an orange box.
thats not the problem, Android is a very good OS, and skipping all the unnecessary hassle of a full blown Android OS is not a bad thing for productivity
this is a UX thing really
organizing all the key AI features a mobile phone has, and optimizing it for daily use
So? Seriously are you stupid? Have you seen a calculator for example? Microwave? Any "one purpose" device? What the F is wrong with you people. Is the CO2 levels so high you don't get enough oxygen into your brains so you cannot grasp how the simpliest things work? That AI device is not a phone but its an AI device to use AI features?
The definition of over-engineering for what is essentially a mobile app.
well its cracked and its an app lol
Disagree. A third party mobile app wouldn’t be able to be as integrated into the OS.
@@SeanTube2099It literally runs on Android, lol.
@@SeanTube2099I keep seeing this argument, but what can’t it do as an Android app?
@@SeanTube2099 Does it matter now? not only its cracked, it also runs on android 12 which is deprecated for security updates.
I think they think we are stupid.
I think you are.
@@orcusdei dun dun duuuuuhhh
Questions:
1) Did she mention that you either need wifi/hotspot or a sim card aka a separate data plan from your phone?
2) Did she recharge from the 15% at noon before heading to Battery Park?
3) Are you able to confirm the Uber address on the screen before a driver is assigned? I can only imagine the clusterF if it sends you to the wrong address
Actually one of the best reviews on the features and shortcomings in every day usage. thanks.
All the R1 really does is show you just how OP your phone is. It was an impossible thing to sell but they went for it. I do love the design but what I'm really saying there is I love what Teenager Engineering do. Also you can tell the quality of a channel by how they feature things like this. There was some honesty but they really had to search for something, anything it could do. They just didn't remind you that all of that can be done better through your phone for no additional cost.
And why not just use a smartphone?
Exactly which is way more advanced
Why do people buy console instead of pc?
@@lifemusic4rcuz it’s cheap meaning easier to buy. And so are phones dummy.
@@lifemusic4r bad analogy. This is more like buying a toy car for everyday use.
cause its more hassle, you dum dum
The thing has so many issues that just using the phone would be so much easier 😂
You mean the devices that have out for decades? Stop being a parrot. Yes, it’s falling short on full functionality…but it’s literally a new concept using a separate concept that’s in its infancy.
Can you describe to me how I would use a phone in similar manner and it would be easier? Tell me the process in steps, one by one.
@@orcusdeiGoogle lens, google
It’s funny you keep using your phone 😂😂😂 it makes the rabbit r1 kinda similar to the humane Ai pin
How many pieces does it shatter into after you smash it on the ground really hard, and can you follow up with a video where you do it.
Wait, so you're telling me this device that has the battery life of a Christmas card, has a camera resolution of 1 megapixel, incorrectly answers questions, has some outrageous UI design flaws, only costs 200 dollars? TAKE MY MONEY
Finally someone covers the website/backend of r1 with the journals and everything.
This is basically a physical device that was built for a mobile app... im pretty sure a better alternative app would be available by end of year.
Thank you so much for this honest demo
I’m trying so hard to find a reason to give these people $200 but I just can’t seem to be able to. Am I missing something?
You are not
People bought it just to make a video and profit from the views.
Stacking commands, your phone cannot do multiple tasks like the R1 can, you can chain multiple commands
So, it’s a voice activated app? Wait, I already have one of these. Aside from the form factor, not sure what innovation this brings to the table, and I’m not convinced this will perform as well in practice as it did in the keynote.
Still trying figure out what it can do that my mobile can't do.
Stops you from playing Candy Crush
It ca drain battery much faster.
You can't just ask your phone with voice alone to generate images on midjourney or use an uber.
It will be better with updates and will do way more, the battery draining extra fast is completely solved with a recent update it can run all day now...
The problem is that this devices functionalities will be absorbed by google through android and open interpreter is making a phone assistant, apple although really slow with AI will also make an AI agent assistant ... I have said it from the beginning, this product's success is redundant, they should have made a whole smartphone or an app.
Now give it to celebrities and it will be a hit.
I don’t feel sorry for whoever funded this.
"They invented the iPod in the Smartphone era"
A $200 device to run a $2 quality app with features Microsoft and Google will let you use for free.
Apple too if they actually bother to update Siri
I think you’d basically be buying it to have a new tech toy thing and have people say ohhh what’s that? Other than that yea it can be done already. Only beneficial use would be for like my grandma who refuses to learn to use a cellphone or tablet or someone with a disability and working a phone is harder to touch or read
Is there anything this does that google lens doesn't?
@@chip43 people don't mention this too much but since its cracked its known that it runs on android 12 which is deprecated for security updates.
Beside the learning feature (which isnt even available at the moment) i would say ChatGPT and copilot are just as convenient. Once they have access to the camera they can do literally the same thing on a device you already have on you at all times. But maybe im dumb.. and i mis something
Appreciate the time showing it, so I don’t waste my time looking at it.
Definition of waste of money….. thx I’ll skip going down the rabbit hole, was tough for Alice back in the day
Why do people keep highlighting "features" like asking the weather and taking voice memos? I have a 5-day weather forecast on my phone's lockscreen, no questions asked, and have a lockscreen shortcut to directly record a voice memo which doesn't get locked into a "Rabbit Hole". Google Assistant, Maps, and Lens do everything else shown in this video. Or even faster if you just open an app and do a search in 2 seconds.
As for things like Uber and DoorDash, you're waiving the opportunity to use promotions/coupons and end up overpaying. You also need to visually see where your Uber/delivery is on a map, anyway.
There's nothing "AI" about any of the things shown here. Also, if it's not clear by now, voice is a terrible interface for the majority of tasks. Visual/touch is far faster and accurate.
Useless e-waste.
I love that orange colour .. so striking in a good way
This is the first review I hear the word "faster" about these AI pins
There’s already an update out to extend the battery life.
The only use case would be if you wanted to leave your phone at home, but still had basic stuff you needed to get done and didn’t know where to eat and were curious about your surroundings. I don’t get it honestly
They recently updated the software that addresses the location issue (setting time zone), battery life, scroll wheel speed and more.
I rather buy another mobile.
Wait, but my current mobile can do all of this!
Essentially all AI devices can not be apps because the gate kepers, aka phone manufacturers, will not give it full access to operate as intended. It's kinda like when Elon got rejected from buying a Russian rocket engine and building his own
Points the camera at self: "what am I looking at?"
Orange box: "Carrot top."
A fancy orange box! Sure lol
The fact that you can’t even turn up or down the volume during use is absolutely insane 😅 such a simple thing and they forgot about simple convince
There is volume control. Sorry you are uninformed.
It looks like a nice idea, not quite finished/polished. Seems to be frustrating to use, and she kept having to go back to her phone for maps, or translating the Spanish book, her Uber ride, etc... Not sure who its aimed at though, as pretty much everyone has a more capable mobile phone in their pockets.
A device with a camera, speaker and mike connected to our phone is what we need.
So it does everything an app does, but without all the benefits of a phone and apps like maps? So it does less and much worse … nice 👍🏻
I'm going to Wait for Version 2 or 3.
I have always hated all voice assistants, and this voice assistant is no different.
The Rabbit R1 is basically not worth it
I bet that this will go down to $10 and still passed up by most.
My iPhone: Rabbit, I can do all that and more…faster and better !!
Why would anybody carry that thing when we all have a phone? Also, being that the LLM and everything else run on the cloud, why not making an app instead? The only interesting features supposedly coming soon LAM, teach mode are not present.
It is a Skynet bunny
So much money, manpower, resources, energy and time wasted on this product. I feel bad for Lisa having to revue this.
Just a few edits for brevity and it could pass for a satirical piece by The Onion
@@oshl4387 Yeah, the product has the overall feel of a practical joke to it. Like those sphagetti forks that you can spin with a handle.
@@lesliespeaker668 It's crazy, because all the founders needed to do was create a mock up concept video (like this one, but a fake hollow shell and no real tech) , listen to the constructive criticism, and save all that time, R&D, industrial design effort, manufacturing, and $$$$$ just like you hinted above.
Cool... I'll stick to my smartphone/google assistant.
Basically like walking around with Alexa 😂🤣😂
The most pointless device ever made
Isn’t unsafe to ask Uber to pick in a certain location out loud😂😂
Is smartphones just add ai assistants does that not just triumph this
1min in and it's like "pretty simple to setup i just have to do this, this, connect to this, go to this site, do this..." XD
Wow! It's a standalone but dorkier SIRI.
You can just ask Siri to take a note and it does it faster.
@cnet what carrier did you guys use on the R1?
"Rabbit account?!" 😂😂😂 Oh dear
Not dear. Rabbit.
A case study on what happens when you don't ask your product development team "could this just be a piece of software, like an app?"
She's noticeably unexcited about this review. Cancelling my order
It feels like a fun gadget, i wish i could use my smartphone only with hardware buttons. :////
This is not my review? 🤔
It doesn’t even have an alarm clock or reminders.
I still dont get the purpose of this device. More E waste
Didn’t it come out that’s it’s just an Android app?
people making money off the AI hype
it reminds the interesting fact that the movie barbie spent more money on the marketing than the movie itself & it works. to me, as an engineer - it's a total waste of money. but who knows, maybe that's where i am wrong.
$800 smartphone in one hand and $200 device in the other hand, just to show everybody you have enough money to buy any gadget in the market no matter how useless it is.
>smart phone
>google lens
what are we doing here people
I think we all too eager to see something that is for adding to instead of subtracting from our experiences with Google or Apple, or whatever that forms our lives. It’s only a first generation product, and let’s be honest, didn’t Google assistant or Apple Siri still struggle in some areas with AI after decades spent building formidable advantage over new companies?
I will give it a even on the AI field with its competitors such as Google and Apple, none of their tech impressive enough to me without using hardware upgrade and price control when their newness coming out. I would like to see something new on the market instead of getting weary on what’s new with Apple’s same old competitive edge, M3, M4, M5 to add up their computing capabilities.
Picasso didn’t own an iPad to become a Legend, so sometimes we might have to think what really makes a piece of art great? Computing?
Pay extra money to do what your phone can do only slower and worse and more cumbersome. Genius.
That’s because GPS is not gonna be available right at lunch. GPS is coming later.
One word... gimmick
Smartphones way better than this orange box.
the r1 apk was dumped and can be used on android devices.
Is this video from 2005?
I looks so big in her small hands lol
And why not just use a smartphone? This rabbit doesn't even fit in your pants pocket.
I can barely contain my indifference.
Feels a bit lackluster for now, but I could see future iterations replacing smartphones as we have them now. I imagine the connected devices of tomorrow will integrate features like the AI powered camera to become like personal assistants for their users. It just feels like it needs to become super fast at all the tasks it does. That way it will actually become faster than typing. Right now the Rabbit R1 seems to be sort of an enhanced "siri"
yes it's cheap.. but after 5 minutes it just frustrates you and makes you whip out your smartphone to accomplish whatever task is at hand.
Making it ‘traffic cone orange’ is the first sign that this is an expensive, plastic toy.
So what was that one thing you could not do with an iPhone/Android ?
Also, How many times do you have to ask and wait for those kinda questions - say calling Uber? Total wait time vs Touch screening the whole experience?
Faster than my phone 😏
And I love how when she pointed it at Clinton Castle it couldn’t identify the building but it pointed out the sign for ticket holders. Way to point out the obvious.
Shd lost me at tiny
Using your smartphone is still better and so the rabbit is a beta device and so I will not buy it and I can save 2 hundred bucks and don’t have to worry about carrying two devices plus I have a Apple Watch also and so this device is not needed for me.
"can be fun"
when? this review is nothing but frustration
0h good...another Newton. Why release this iteration if it's not ready. The concept seems viable but it looks like it wasn't ready. Promising yet disappointing...sigh
Kid's toy
I can’t imagine why anyone would want this. An iPhone can do all this and more and faster.
DOA. Half-baked functionality, clunky form factor that nobody asked for, bad battery life. The long-term "vision" & features will be subsumed into future smartphones or discreet glasses. This is what happens when you give a little money to people with a bad idea but good buzzword ("A.I.") , who are surrounded by Yes Men ... and no one is in charge to pump the brakes.
You lost me at Teenage Engineering 😅
What why? They make cool looking and alright stuff.
Looks like a Pokedex time to start our journey.
its a android app built in to and ipod lol i prefer gemini or siri
now you guys learned? don't fall for AI scams. the pin, this box, all useless! I'm sorry but just get a phone... it's worth it
For $200, I would rather pick up a Meta Quest 2.
So, a phone that’s smaller and does much less.
Im not understanding the concept. All of that can be done with any phone.
I am not surprised that someone thought of this device. What I am surprised is that someone funded it to come to market.
Terrible...who's the target buyer??
It would be great if these people will spend their time making something meaningful rather than wasting time making a scam gadget of $200
What am i looking at?
*points the rabbit at a mirror*
«Let me take a look. I see a overpriced piece of junk.»
oh great another half baked device to charge and carry that does almost everything your phone does but less efficiently and slower. This will sell like cold cakes.
