Panasonic Lumix GH6 - Long Term Review - with NEW Firmware Updates!

  • Team Hot Rod uses all the major cameras that shoot high quality 4K+ resolutions and the GH6 is no exception. With the latest firmware release (and more on the horizon) the GH6 is arguably the highest quality camera you can buy for the money. When you factor in the option of tiny lenses, the camera is a dream for 1-man bands and those who have to pack their kits small for travel. A lot of people make a big deal about sensor size, and like everyone knows it's far more important how you use it! Filmmaker, TH-camr, Studio Builder and Team member Joey Rassool used the GH6 for 6+ months to put together this review. Please let us know what you think.

Long time FF Canon shooter here. Congrats and thank you on the thorough evaluation and insightful opinions. So many boxes on the GH6 get ticked that I'm Jones-ing on the features and specs. As much as I love the small form factor, IBIS and lens IS, super high frame rates, a huge codec and resolution selection, I would have to give up ultra wide FOV, super sexy bokeh that I take for granted now. It's impractical hauling two systems in the field as having too much stuff can also be a huge ball and chain on actually shooting good footage. May have to try it out though. None of the camera shops I have near me have one physically in stock to get a feel of it.

Excellent well rounded review. Spot on for lower cost of lenses and smaller form factor. I feel like the GH6 is good enough for the common viewer off the street (non-filmmaker) that when they watch content shot on the GH6, viewers are focused on the content without the quality of the footage getting in the way of the story being told. Thus mission accomplished. Thank you for the excellent review. 😊👍

Wow a really great review! Still, on the fence about upgrading from my G9, I was hoping the low light would be better!

Great run through that echoes my sentiments of the camera and MFT as a whole! I love my GH6 rig and lenses but I added a Nikon Z9 to take me to places that my GH6 cannot get to!😎👍🏾🙏🏾

A GH6s and a GH6s ii would be awesome additions to this camera for a b and c camera. Cmon Panasonic. We want an electronic Variable ND filter that will have little to no colour shifts. Make a version like the GH5s. We will all be buying all three versions for our current kit. Make sure all the colours match up natively please! Please please please! That has to be number one of the rules for multiple camera mixup shoots. Same colours. Please make them all gen lockable. Please please please!

Nice Video :) I am an owner of GH5II. I found that GH6 has Gyro for Stabilization. How does it work? Does it need a software like Catalyst Browser or Davinc, or it uses the data within the camera for Stabilization?

hmmmm you seem to think that he GH6 has DUAL NATIVE ISO and it does not. That is a head scratch er for someone with so so much LUMIX experience. If I'm wrong I'd be very happy to be so. Please let me know. .

ISO = gain. It's really a matter of semantics. The GH6 doesn't advertise "dual native ISO" but that is the terminology we are all in the habit of using- and sure, we're guilty in this video of not spending an extra 2 minutes explaining the subtle differences in implementation. Panasonic specifically refers to what is the GH6 "dual native ISO" as "Dual Output Gain." At the end of the day this "DOG", is really only slightly different implementation of dual native, but again as ISO = gain, what's occurring is the same results. Most people don't seem to understand the term of DOG, so we had to make a choice for the video, spend the time explaining minor differences and use the correct terminology or call it the term that people understand and what should be close enough for 99.9% on TH-cam. Good on you for pointing it out. I wasn't sure anyone would.
