    Quite probably the most practical rig review I've seen yet. An additional useful tool I have (our rigs are very similar minus the FF and left handle for mine) is smallrig has a flexi arm lens shade that has a cold shoe mount that's brilliant and super light in place of a matte box.

    Excellent. I got a Smallrig cage for my G9 and have top and side handles plus the follow focus and monitor mounts. I used focus rings to suit the specific Len’s diameter. The side handle is the type that takes a ssd, however the G9 cannot record to it unlike the BMPCC, but I was thinking of getting a small power bank to fit inside. I also got a collection of counterweights to balance my anamorphic lens. Like you, I am still considering a matte box. Kind regards.

    Cool set up, though admitedly I'm not a big fan of rigs. I like to keep everything as minimal as possible and over the years find that the camera ergonomics often supersede any rigging I do. I currently only attach a Movo rail which allows me to attach a mic, monitor and light if needed.
    Also, I've not used the GH6 yet but all the other Panasonic cameras I use had an option to out put your cameras display so that your camera controls and monitoring tools should come up on the external monitor. It's a feature you can turn and off in the menu.
    Great vid. 🙂

    Hello Emily,
    Thank you for this video.
    I am French speaking, so my apologies because my English will not be perfect.
    I just bought the Lumix GH6 (my previous photo camera was a old Nikon 7100).
    I am a young beginner in video and I am really looking forward to learn how to make quality videos.
    Your smallrig set is beautiful and seems very complete. A few days ago I bought the Black Mamba cage and it is really well designed.
    Right now I'm trying to read a lot about video stabilization. The Lumix GH6 is 5 axis stabilized.
    Handheld, the image is pretty good, but as soon as I move a little too much, the image is not as stable.
    The wedding videos you show as an example are beautiful and I confess that it sows doubt in my mind. Is this smallrig set enough to get a sufficiently stabilized image? Or would a stabilizer like the Ronin Rs3 be more practical and efficient to shoot any kind of images (music videos, sports videos, etc...).
    What is your opinion on this ? What could you advise me ? Because I don't want to make a useless purchase that I would regret later.
    Thanks a lot.
    Yves (Brussel - Belgium).

    Some really interesting food for thought.
    I am seriously considering getting the follow focus, quite possibly just so that I can zoom in and out 1980's VCR style 🤣
    I also tried fitting my Manftotto quick release plate to my Smallrigg cage but the whole thing wobbled too much on my tripod that it was unworkable. I solved this with a Smallrig Swiss Arca quick release clamp (part number 2144). This clamp bolts onto my Manfrotto fluid head and I can then attach my camera to the tripod like the proverbial sticking to the shovel.
    I can happily state that the Ninja V does indeed have the RED confirmation rectangle when you press record. This visual clue has saved my bacon many many times.
    However now that I have my GH6, I want to get the new version Ninja V+ because...Because I want one.
    Would you be willing to make an offer for my Ninja V, which is well loved and looked after?
    It really is the dog's danglies.

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m also tempted by the + in hopes the open gate options might be 4:2:2 one day rather than 4:2:0 🤞🤞🤞🤞

    • @frankinblackpool
      @frankinblackpool 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MicroFourNerds If you do get the Ninja V+, then I'd think twice about buying the Avid DNxHR codecs.
      With my Ninja V, I bought the DNxHR and H265 codecs at $99 a pop and so far have never used either of them.
      That's not strictly true. I did experiment with the DNxHR codec on a Davinci Resolve projects but had nothing but niggling problems, so I just stuck with ProRes. However I now have an RTX 3090 graphic card and all my worries be gone.
      The Open Gate 4:2:0 may be a limiting factor of the processing power of the Ninja V+?
      Can't say that I notice much difference when I edit my 4:2:2 footage and 4:2:0 in Resolve. But I mostly just colour correct rather than go all jedi and do colour grades. I've only just started experimenting with an Orange & Teal look for my recent sunset episode.

      I use an INIU power pack 20,000mAh with my GH6 and it lasts all day, provided an internal camera battery has a charge in it. The camera will not power when the camera battery is not installed. As long as you are happy with a USB cable going from your camera to a Power Pack in your pocket or camera bag, then happy days.
      This week the Power Pack has been a "god send" while doing a 4 hour Time Lapse session filming the tide coming in. I have also been researching V Mount batteries to power both my camera and Atomos Ninja V monitor.
