Balanced, sensible review. Amazing how so many youtube personalities don’t care about crucial video features that a prosumer, advanced amateur film maker would. Oh, but their camera has good focus…this review was refreshingly different, balanced and helpful.

GH6 is fantastic! I've been using it for a couple of years now. Stabilization was one of the big reasons I got it.

This seems to be a good middle ground between a DSLR body style camera and a true cinema or production camera. Not quite up to snuff with a studio camera, because the adapters and rig you would have to build on it would be pretty extensive, but this is a great camera!
As a filmmaker, I have to be honest in saying that much of the time I don't rely on autofocus. But, as a indie/low budget filmmaker too, having reliable autofocus can be a life saver when your budget doesn't allow for long set up periods while shooting and you need to do more run and gun type filming. That being said, I did shoot a feature film with a GH5 and never used autofocus once. So, it is possible to shoot without completely relying on autofocus. But, having it does reduce a lot of stress while filming.
In the end, I think the GH6 is definitely an excellent camera to have in your tool bag. It may not be the hybrid camera many people are looking for, but, I think it's strong enough to stand on its own.
Filmmaking is about the struggle… When you have to work for it, you get Star Wars, when everything is handed to you on a plate, you get Phantom Menace…

The color and inbody stabilization is hard to beat. The "floaty" skateboard motion-shot in this post was completely handheld. Not many cameras can do that without external stabilization...
I dont know any camera i would rather buy than the gh6 at this price. No other camera in this ranges comes even close with this feature set and this image quality.
Solid review. The GH6 doesn’t have that oversharpened look of the GH5. Looks more organic.
The GH5 can look more organic if you lower the sharpness and contrast. Most default camera settings are nasty...

@@mondobytes eff that. Your video is tops. I’ll keep pushing it. I love how much you treated it like a cinema camera and not a consumer camera. Seeing some responses to the DFD AF on twitter and how that makes the camera “useless”, I think it’s time to start randomly calling camera brands “useless” that don’t have timecode, shutter angle, waveform, dual zebras, CUBE LUT support and so-on.
@@photojoseph Very well said. Camera’s like the GH6 reveal a lot of youtube personalities that talk about camera’s are not as advanced as they present themselves to be. Sure sign is their obsessive delight in advanced auto focus and dismissal of a video powerhouse such as the GH6 or BM camera on AF alone.

So looking to upgrade my gears totally, gonna sell my Nikon gears soon. I'm thinking about getting either canon r5c and r6/r5 or Sony fx3 and Sony a9iii(if it releases this year) else a9ii . I want to buy canon R5c (coz I already have a lot of ef lenses) but I'm worried that video af and dynamic range might not be as good as Sony fx3. I shoot weddings,events,fashion, sports.

Wow I was thinking of in investing in black magic 6K Pro or the Panasonic SH1but look at all the specs the GH6 is now catching my attention.
I’ve use the GH4 and still do for so many years and I always love the Panasonic system.
I’ve rented other cameras the black magic the red ,Sony but Panasonic is really cool.

The Panasonic 10-25mm and the new OM1 is also very tempting.
The only reason that could prevent me from buying is the HDR bracketing settings called AEB. The GH4 shot brackets of 3,5, and 7 in increments of 1 EV or smaller. It needs to have steps of at least 2 EV for real estate. Could you tell me if the GH6 has AEB 5 @ 2EV??

Ok, I have a question. At 01:47 you said it as it is, so many people hate the side hinged pull out screen and this tilt option is perfect. So why oh why oh why does every blinking TH-camr go on and on and on telling us that the flip out screen is the bees knees, when it’s simply not.
They are the reason we are burdened with this screen now (Lumix S5/Sony A7Siii/A7iv/Fujifilm X-T4 and all the Canon’s.

I love my gh6 since I upgraded from gh3. I mostly film son's soccer games and some photos. Only downside I see is pulsing effect in some videos 4k60fps.
Panasonic "Autofocus" is solely the reason why I am still on the fence. In my collection, I have the GH1, GH2 (hack) GH3, GH4, Sony a7iii, Sony a7sii, and Sony a7siii. I use the Sony daily for work and it has got me through the years, and when I am traveling for fun, I like to leave the Sony at home, its for more professional work and I take the Panasonic lineup with me. But ever since I got little ones, 5 and 7 years old, the Panasonic lineup is just sitting in a box. My little ones run around fast, they jump, roll, whatever little ones do (sorry, manual focus is out of the question), Panasonic can never keep up with them, and every video clip I have of them is just out of focus, 10 clips, maybe 1 is usable, I don't have that problem with the Sony a7iii or a7siii, 10 clips, 10 usable. I love the skin tone that I get out of the Panasonic, love how the highlights just roll off the skin smoothly, but if its out of focus, not usable. I was hoping Panasonic will improved on their autofocus, sadly, I am still on the fence and happy with my Sony a7siii.
I completely agree with you on this. This GH6 is amazing with so many incredible little details that would make the life of doing video work so incredibly smooth...but the autofocus still needs work and that is still a deal breaker for me. If Panasonic ever nails autofocus, Sony and Cannon will shake in their boots and I'll be there to get a Panasonic.

@@superzero4250 No perfect camera. I choose Panasonic for color and inbody stabilization. I love to shoot handheld, and not many cameras are steady enough to shoot completely handheld with the camera in motion.

I don't understand this camera. Same price class as their S1, with an MFT sensor instead of FF. Some extra pixels but that's about it, right?
What lens was used in the ibis tests? Lumix 12-60???
The GH6 is great...this might enable me to get a used GH5 in the not-too-distant future.

I have a feeling it wouldn't do that well. Low light and bokeh is MFTs shortfall. If you want to shoot everything in broad daylight with F22 or higher, they are an okay choice.

i have a gh1 which stopped focusing correctly in the view finder so i already had 2 lenses. i got the gh6 refresh in like new condition for 1800 body only. pretty sweet upgrade ;)

@@royaltykidstv battery life is meh. battery charging not fast. auto focus isnt magically perfect but that might be a learning curve thing. its chonkier than the gh1. picture and video wise its obviously light years ahead of the gh1. its top tier in video and pics are by my eye excellent though if you rank sort it by other dslrs its not top tier but thats like pixel/bit level nit picking kind of stuff from my POV

Hey, I got my GH6 today. I wanted to import my raw files into Lightroom but it says "does not support this file". Is this why the camera is so new and Adobe just needs new updates?
Yes. Had the same problem with the GH5 when it first came out. Have to wait for the software to catch-up...
When will Panasonic release an EF adapter/speedbooster instead of conceding that insane business to the ridiculously expensive (& doubly so outside the US) Metabones ?
I agree, that is why the Viltrox EF-M2II is so great, especially since most of my Cinema Lenses are manual anyway. However, M.Zuiko Pro glass like the f1.2’s are equally as good in my opinion and the f2.8 zooms are not bad either…

Your videos are always very nice. Thanks to share them. Maybe I'm wrong because I've only been using GH6 for 2-3 days but ...... I have problems with AF. But not with continuous AF, but with fixed AF. I have configured the camera to follow people, but I certainly happen to film the countryside and the streets many times without the people and I never change the camera configuration. Almost every time the GH6 goes out of focus for a few tenths of a second with the shots fixed on tripod. I see this in almost all the clips. I sold the GH5 for this problem and I'm certainly not getting better with the GH6. But then again, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Maybe I need to put the switch on S instead of leaving it on MF. But if that's the real problem, it's a nuisance. How do you concentrate on the video, if every time you have to put your hand to the controls of the GH6 for the AF and ... not only?
With the GH6 you can set the focus range so the camera can't focus too close or too far, or just focus manually. Pretty much everything we see on TV or at the movies was manually focused.
