    Awesome video! I'm married to m4/3 as I have all the lenses - BM Studio 4K for the studio, but my mobile setup is the Lumix G9 - and I am thinking of either the GH6 or S5iix - so this video came in clutch for me - thank you for making it! Subbed.

    I just bought the GH6 as an addition to my Gh5s. Which is an absolutely clean low-light beast for video. So my Gh6 is for the open gate and handheld stuff while on a tripod or monopod my GH5s with the Atomos Ninja V will still be my a-cam. Both cameras with prores and timecode are fantastic.

    • @PaulHeimlund

      Cool! You have a great gear arsenal with those combos :)

      I currently have a GH5s for Gimbal/Tripod/Low Light videos and a G9 for photography and (when paired with the Ninja V) for handheld videos and (when they dropped in price last year) I bought a second Ninja V for when I’m using both cameras (recording in ProRes).

      understand your logic but still crazy that you are buyting newer and more expensive version of your cam and it is going to be your b-cam lol

    Don’t forget about the Famous Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Art lens which, when when paired with a EF-MFT speed-booster, becomes a 12-25 f1.2 (a diffuser filter is recommended)!

    At this moment you can find GH6 brand new for $1297.99 Its amazing deal. Right now my Lumix G9 with V-log is more than I need. Great video btw, love seeing your TH-cam progress from sound and video production. Well done.

    If I get a Panasonic full frame, I'd grab the S1H. Another one that has that fan in it. Anyways, they'll come out with a new one for that. I'll wait. I have the GH6 right now. It works well for me.

    The S5M2 PDAF announcement basically killed the GH6 for most people. We are just waiting for that GH-PDAF announcement. Might still arrive this spring.

      For people with a ton of Mft lens it's a godsend... Big glass is not something I want go back to.

    • @capionstudio
      @capionstudio ปีที่แล้ว +3

      PDAF does not overcome the following; No 3:2 open gate raw, some of the worst rolling shutter in a camera at 25.5MS, terrible moire/ aliasing from a lack of an OLPF, CMOS streaking, no 4K 120P, no 4K 60P uncropped, no internal media (SSD only) for ProRes HQ.
      Its a great offering, but a flawed camera primarily built for TH-camrs who are more concerned with AF over anything else. Meanwhile, if you boost the GH6 with a Metabones 64XL, you're operating at. 1.28X crop equivalency which is larger than APS-H at roughly 13 stops of DR with its DGO sensor and some of the best RS on the market around 7MS.
      Full Frame isn't king...

    NO… I literally bought the GH5II, the week before the release of the Lumix GH6 fully aware of all the features, and technology advantages. The new Lumix G9II is far more compelling, save for the price, and least of all for the inclusion of PDAF.
    For the novice or typical content creator PDAF is crucial, lack of skill requires all the aid one can get. For seasoned professionals, it’s a hinderance, borderline annoyance that gets in the way of the process of filmmaking, not to mention your best glass choices will most likely be manual lenses anyway…
    So again, GH5II all day everyday, and twice on Sundays. However, in the future, maybe a Lumix G9II when the price gets below $1500…

      Technically Paul is not incorrect. You can shoot at lower ISOs with focal reducers in some cases, and that means better dynamic range.

    • @angeloplayforone
      @angeloplayforone ปีที่แล้ว

      Dynamic range is based on the sensor not on the optics. A speed booster is a lens who concentrate light from a lens made for a bigger sensor to a smaller sensor. So a speedbooster makes the lens raster so lower f-Stop.

    • @madedigital
      @madedigital ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angeloplayforone what does a lower f stop mean... Better in low light less noise more clean image more range in low light... Not in daylight

    I have been shooting in ProRes for many years. I capture with Atomos recorders. I shoot long events so the files are cheaper to capture and easier to edit. I bought two of the original Ninjas which I have retired but I have five still, which include three Ninja v’s. My GH6 also has an external 2 TB SSD for recording as well. On a Mac or PC ProRes is easy to edit.

    The issue between GH6 and S5IIX is lower pricing, high framerates and cheaper lenses versus lower light, depth of field and better dynamic range. The price of the GH6 has dropped below that of the S5II.

    Only by saying cropsensor cameras says everything regarding video and cinematic comment. To my knowledge Panasvision or Red are using S35 sensor. Cropsensor is clearly a term from the photography world.

      Shallow depth of field is NOT what defines Cinematic. Never was… Cinematic is about composition and lighting…
      This obsession with Shallow Depth of Field in filming, is the result of photographers suddenly deciding they want to do video, or thinking they are filmmakers. Mainly, it’s TH-camr’s with ZERO experience watching videos of those same photographers, mistaking the advice for real professionalism, and then regurgitating this erroneous narrative…

    The USB power delivery has broken twice on mine (No I was not using it haphazardly...I use cable locks. It was on the PCB board with a bad connection to the battery compartment). I bought an early release unit. One time had to send it in for repairs, lost my main cam for a MONTH...Fed Ex lost my package when they shipped it back, but eventually found it. After the fix, it failed again 3 months later. I may just have a problematic unit, but the notion of going without it and risking my camera again with their return delivery shipped Fed Ex is not leaving a good feeling in my gut. $2,197 to have Phase detect AF come along for Panasonic 10mo later, and the problems with this unit...just not like my previous GH series experiences. Very disappointed in Panasonic on this release.

    I might go with GH6 to get one for less money (I'm hoping ~US$1300 is a good price for an open-box or used one), and because I don't exactly like cropping in for 48/50/60fps. I have the S5 mark 1 already, and an S5 mark 2 would be the most logical choice, other than just making do with what I already have, but at the same time waiting a little while means getting it cheaper by way of discounts and preowned camera bodies. Honestly speaking though, I would like to have the overall smaller setup that I can get with Sony FX30 and a pancake lens, but also with open-gate video modes

    movies mostly are shot at not faster than 2.8 on a super 35 sensor., thats f 2 on mft or f4 on full frame. Movies dont need 1.2 bokee loke photgraphers want. Its hard to pull focus with anything faster than f4 and it does not help the story. So a gh6 can produce just as much ´cinematic“ blurry background as it is seen in most cinema movies. Low light also is no problem as a pro lits his scene.

      Update! This is even more late but remembered this comment after some trial and error recording to SSDs.
      I found that using a high speed usb c cable was essential to its responsiveness when recording, mainly after I press stop recording.
      The same should be true for an SD card and maybe when you press start record. Make sure you’re using high write speed cards. Hope this helps!
