Not the one where you picked flowers despite knowing how slowly they grow and how harsh the arctic is. It sets a bad example. I loved pretty much everything else, and just wanted to let you know of the horrendous impact of social media influencers on outdoor spaces. Moreso now than ever, it is incredibly important to try to set the best, leave no trace example that you can. You did set a great example of a respectful tourist by mentioning the right of way of the truckers, and I want to give you props for that though. I'll have more positive things to say later, but I think the overall 'tone' and perspective of this video would make people have more respect for the places they visit because you made it about the places you went rather than making it about yourselves.

It took me a little while to get used to it. Basically the whole narrative is pronounced as if it was a poem. And yes, many pieces of information about various things encountered along the way do have a poetic strength to them.

I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska from September 1965 to November 1967. As a geologist, I mapped an area in central Alaska for my masters degree. The oil at Pahoot Bay had not been discovered until a year after I left Alaska for my three years in the Army Corps of Engineers with one year in Vietnam. One of the oil companies donated $50 to me so I could purchase some surveying equipment. When the oil was found i was in Vietnam and my mother sent me a clip from the news paper about the discovery. When I drove the Alaskan Highway, I placed a sheet of plexiglass over the windshield to protect it. There were many rocks that hit it but it never broke. The price of the plexiglass was cheap compared to the cost of a new windshield for my 1965 VW!
Dude you drove a 65 VW up the AH congrats Ill bet there are some stories about that! I worked outside of Fairbanks as a contractor to the USAF we installed a bunch of seismographs. Ive driven that highway 3 times 2x in a 84 FJ60 landcruiser and once in a 85 F250 4x4 epic road trip loved it. Thanks for sharing your story and thanks for your service!
Wow, my cousin Mel Ritchey in 1957 wanted to buy a VW bus drive it from Ohio and Pennsylvania to work on the Gulf oil drilling rig. I already had a job with Sylvania and did not go, but he did. Chef asked if Mel would like a Steak, “Sure” Would you like TWO 1” thick !!! “SURE !!!!. He ate like that the entire summer and was paid $180 week and no place to spend it. I missed another opportunity in Alaska!!!! Lester. In The summer of 1990 we had a family reunion with 59 attending, including my parents wow I love Alaska and so did they and so did all our cousins that already lived there!!
The Engineer who designed the pipeline was my professor for Pipeline engineering class in 1981 at Cal Poly! I am sure he is no longer with us! God bless him and all those who worked on this project and the roads!
The nature of my job allows me to constantly have TH-cam running in the background. In the thousands and thousands of videos I’ve watched, this is hands down the best non professional video/production I’ve seen. Kudos to you both.
I'm a truck driver on the Dalton. I must admit we greet multiple colored buses with no little suspicion. you have done a very good documentary of the Dalton Highway. This is, by far, the single most thorough, educational and scenic video I have ever seen of the Dalton Hwy, all wrapped into one. My fam and I just recently moved from northern NY to Fairbanks. Wow, what a wonderful presentation of the Arctic and the oil pipeline. My cousin Ben Cottle Homestead in Wasilla in 1947 was on the public utilities commission as part of his life and went to the pro Bay before 1990. Your video and drone work gave me a thrill to see what he must’ve seen back 40 years ago. Also, we were in Alaska at Juno on a Viking cruise with my son and his wife and saw the National Geographic ship that you had on but had left and only the crew was there. My wife and I had gone to Patagonia in 2000 on the other end of the Arctic Antarctic for three weeks with road scholar. Also wonderful experience for us. Two weeks after our Alaska cruise my wonderful wife had a massive stroke. She was my partner for 64 years and still is thank you for sharing this. I love your BUS. I love your artwork. Got some giggles from this. My wife and I drove to Prudhoe Bay along the Dalton in 2019 from Florida pulling a small travel trailer. My wife and I were giggling hearing your comments on the Dalton being a dangerous road etc. etc. etc. It is challenging, I’ll give it that, but if you heed the advice offered at just about every visitor Center through the Yukon and Alaska on prepping for the Dalton, it is doable. Much of the advice (it’s actually in a pamphlet) is common sense - at least one full size spare tire, extra fuel, clothing and food for 48-hours, and if possible some sort of satellite communication device. I think the best advice was when approaching one of the 18 wheelers, slow down and pull as far to the right as possible. Most truckers will slow down and move over as well - all in an attempt to avoid a broken windshield. We had all this and obeyed the rule of the road and are happy to say every trucker we met did the same. As for fuel, the stops mentioned had no ethanol fuel so for most vehicles this meant better mileage. We filled up at the start, again in Coldfoot where we spent the night and then in Prudhoe Bay and just reversed everything on the way back. For someone who has never driven the Dalton, you may have put the fear into them to never attempt it. I say that with the utmost respect and with a giggle. Travel safe
Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. "One of the most dangerous roads in the World" Really?? Guess she's never seen videos from India or Napal. Now 'those' roads are crazy dangerous! This road is tame enough to have Visitor's Centers, and it's paved a good part of the way. And it's not like it would be weeks before you see another vehicle if you do break down. Maybe a couple hours at best. Sure is pretty up there though!! Take your time, use your brain, and you'll do just fine.
We were thinking same thing. This is by far NOT one of the most dangerous roads. My sons and I pulled a 30ft travel trailer up to Coldfoot and dropped it to run the rest of way to Deadhorse and back. We took six days to complete the entire trip and had a blast. Not one issue on any equipment and that’s even pulling it through some dicey construction areas.
I have been to Alaska twice when I was on active duty. This video was very colorful and informative. I'm 71, but still in good health and now am determined to go back and rent a vehicle that can get us to Dead Horse. I've visited Ushuaia by sea (on a commercial cruise ship-ugh) and look forward to seeing and hearing about your journey there by land. While I'm gushing... Your narrative is solid, well-researched, well-written, well-scored, and beautifully delivered. What a voice! The camera work and editing is of equally high quality. 67 yr old in my younger days I wanted to do your exact trip unfortunately I only made it as far as Carcross Yukon just me and my dog Dusty in a 1983 Ford p/u with a camper and my Yamaha 250 dirt bike Health reasons forced me back to Vancouver. so I sure wish🤩Happy Travels for you kids have fun stay safe & enjoy your Adventure 🥰🙏

49 years ago I left college for one year to return home to Alaska to work on the Alaska Pipeline (TAPS). Spent over 40 weeks in the Pipeliner’s Union #798 (Tulsa, OK). Working in the Pipegang, living in camps; Atigan Pass, Dietrich, Happy Valley and Galbraith Lake. Worked as a Bead-Grinder; 7 days/week, almost 40 straight weeks. Skinny-dipped in the Sag river and summited Mt. Doonerak! Bootlegged a bit of whiskey and sold Gerber knives. Returned to college - paying cash. Was a great way to get my start in life! Retired now and living in Colorado. Wonderful video!

I lived in wasilla for 3 years and my wife started working in dead horse at the general store! I’ve only been as far north as Fairbanks myself, driving the parks up from wasilla to Fairbanks once in summer and another in winter! WOW what a whole nother world there is north of Fairbanks! That is such a beautiful drive from Wasilla up to Fairbanks. Have you ever driven up to the little lookout and interpretive trail at K’esugi Ken (right across from the Denali Viewpoint South). That is our FAVORITE view of Denali. Absolutely incredible up there!

My mother, a retired journalist, wrote two articles on Alaska, one on the pipeline, and the second on the Exon-Valdez oil spill in 1989. I have pictures of her at Pump Station Number 1, and I still remember reading her unedited version of her article on the Exon-Valdez Oil Spill. So, I thank you for this beautiful trip you shared with us, as I have never been to Alaska.

@ I especially liked your stay at Finger Mountain. I used to stop there before descending into the Kanuti River valley. The valley is a major migration route for caribou and spectacular during the spring and fall. Oh yeah, and I have slid down Beaver Slide…several times…yes, all the way.

Thank you for this memory. I now live in South America but back in the 70s I worked for the company that did the advertising for the Alaskan pipeline and gas companies involved in the work. When I see pictures, I am so proud of all the people who worked so hard, for so long, to make a dream come true and something that was not dangerous to the animals. Wow, my cousin Mel Ritchey in 1957 wanted to buy a VW bus drive it from Ohio and Pennsylvania to work on the Gulf oil drilling rig. I already had a job with Sylvania and did not go, but he did. Chef asked if Mel would like a Steak, “Sure” Would you like TWO 1” thick !!! “SURE !!!!. He ate like that the entire summer and was paid $180 week and no place to spend it.
I missed another opportunity in Alaska!!!! Lester. In The summer of 1990 we had a family reunion with 59 attending, including my parents wow I love Alaska and so did they and so did all our cousins that already lived there!!

The Engineer who designed the pipeline was my professor for Pipeline engineering class in 1981 at Cal Poly! I am sure he is no longer with us! God bless him and all those who worked on this project and the roads!

I'm a truck driver on the Dalton. I must admit we greet multiple colored buses with no little suspicion. you have done a very good documentary of the Dalton Highway. This is, by far, the single most thorough, educational and scenic video I have ever seen of the Dalton Hwy, all wrapped into one. My fam and I just recently moved from northern NY to Fairbanks. I thoroughly enjoyed coming along for your visit to Deadhorse and look forward to more content! You should have millions of subs. I just added one.
Wow, what a wonderful presentation of the Arctic and the oil pipeline. My cousin Ben Cottle Homestead in Wasilla in 1947 was on the public utilities commission as part of his life and went to the pro Bay before 1990. Your video and drone work gave me a thrill to see what he must’ve seen back 40 years ago. Also, we were in Alaska at Juno on a Viking cruise with my son and his wife and saw the National Geographic ship that you had on but had left and only the crew was there. My wife and I had gone to Patagonia in 2000 on the other end of the Arctic Antarctic for three weeks with road scholar. Also wonderful experience for us. Two weeks after our Alaska cruise my wonderful wife had a massive stroke. She was my partner for 64 years and still is thank you for sharing this. I love your BUS. I love your artwork. Got some giggles from this. My wife and I drove to Prudhoe Bay along the Dalton in 2019 from Florida pulling a small travel trailer. My wife and I were giggling hearing your comments on the Dalton being a dangerous road etc. etc. etc. It is challenging, I’ll give it that, but if you heed the advice offered at just about every visitor Center through the Yukon and Alaska on prepping for the Dalton, it is doable. Much of the advice (it’s actually in a pamphlet) is common sense - at least one full size spare tire, extra fuel, clothing and food for 48-hours, and if possible some sort of satellite communication device. I think the best advice was when approaching one of the 18 wheelers, slow down and pull as far to the right as possible. Most truckers will slow down and move over as well - all in an attempt to avoid a broken windshield. We had all this and obeyed the rule of the road and are happy to say every trucker we met did the same. As for fuel, the stops mentioned had no ethanol fuel so for most vehicles this meant better mileage. We filled up at the start, again in Coldfoot where we spent the night and then in Prudhoe Bay and just reversed everything on the way back. For someone who has never driven the Dalton, you may have put the fear into them to never attempt it. I say that with the utmost respect and with a giggle. Travel safe

Guess she's never seen videos from India or Napal. Now 'those' roads are crazy dangerous!
This road is tame enough to have Visitor's Centers, and it's paved a good part of the way. And it's not like it would be weeks before you see another vehicle if you do break down. Maybe a couple hours at best.
Sure is pretty up there though!!
Take your time, use your brain, and you'll do just fine.
@ Lived in Kathmandu, Nepal for 2.5 years and yep, those roads are dangerous and local drivers only add to the challenge.
We were thinking same thing. This is by far NOT one of the most dangerous roads. My sons and I pulled a 30ft travel trailer up to Coldfoot and dropped it to run the rest of way to Deadhorse and back. We took six days to complete the entire trip and had a blast. Not one issue on any equipment and that’s even pulling it through some dicey construction areas.
Yeah, tried to watch but she was just so dramatic, I had to turn it off.

@@ArtWeThereYet I visited Alaska in 2022, but only got as far north as Denali. I need to see your Denali episode(s), where you will undoubtedly reveal things I completely overlooked. I'm 71, but still in good health and now am determined to go back and rent a vehicle that can get us to Dead Horse.

49 years ago I left college for one year to return home to Alaska to work on the Alaska Pipeline (TAPS). Spent over 40 weeks in the Pipeliner’s Union #798 (Tulsa, OK). Working in the Pipegang, living in camps; Atigan Pass, Dietrich, Happy Valley and Galbraith Lake. Worked as a Bead-Grinder; 7 days/week, almost 40 straight weeks. Skinny-dipped in the Sag river and summited Mt. Doonerak! Bootlegged a bit of whiskey and sold Gerber knives. Returned to college - paying cash. Was a great way to get my start in life! Retired now and living in Colorado. Wonderful video!

@ All the way. We stayed at a hotel there and ate the same food as the workers. It was a real fun experience. It was like we had our own chauffeur.

I lived in wasilla for 3 years and my wife started working in dead horse at the general store! I’ve only been as far north as Fairbanks myself, driving the parks up from wasilla to Fairbanks once in summer and another in winter! WOW what a whole nother world there is north of Fairbanks! Thank you for a wonderful video trip.
That is such a beautiful drive from Wasilla up to Fairbanks. Have you ever driven up to the little lookout and interpretive trail at K’esugi Ken (right across from the Denali Viewpoint South). That is our FAVORITE view of Denali. Absolutely incredible up there!

My mother, a retired journalist, wrote two articles on Alaska, one on the pipeline, and the second on the Exon-Valdez oil spill in 1989.
I have pictures of her at Pump Station Number 1, and I still remember reading her unedited version of her article on the Exon-Valdez Oil Spill.

I was surprised how good and technically accurate this video is. I worked on the pipeline for 31 years and drove the length of the Haul Road over 200 times. Thanks for bringing back beautiful memories.

@ I especially liked your stay at Finger Mountain. I used to stop there before descending into the Kanuti River valley. The valley is a major migration route for caribou and spectacular during the spring and fall. Oh yeah, and I have slid down Beaver Slide…several times…yes, all the way.

When I see pictures, I am so proud of all the people who worked so hard, for so long, to make a dream come true and something that was not dangerous to the animals.
