  • A surprise addition as I decide to install the Motogadget “breakout box A” that I’ve had kicking around.
    Here’s the link to the wiring diagram discussed in this episode. Its been updated with info from future episodes. Now on version 8.

    Great! Really enjoyed your videos so far! They gave me the courage to finally start my own custom project (R80RT '89)
    Just a little remark on this video, when you plug in 3 cables in the same entry of the m unit, I would have put on a cable shoe or some tin, just to be sure they are all 3 well connected.

    I wondered why you didn't buy the box with the scope? Nice build. Great channel. Well done. RMM

    It has been a fascinating series, thanks for taking the time to share the experience and learnings from it. I am inspired to go with a motogadget for my special from yesteryear that desperately needs a re-wire. One thing i can't figure out, either from here nor from the motogadget online manual, is how the lighting is configured. Do you have side light, headlight and full beam (incl flash) capability and I would love to see more detail of the cabling of the rear light / stop light. Is it possible that you can discuss / cover? Or if you are well past this now? If so, would you just be able to share your .ppt cabling diagrams of these lighting circuit items?
    With thanks

    Thank you so much for sharing your wiring diagram. There is a little error about the speed sensor: the brown cable of the "Motoscope Pro" (and the brown cable of the "Breakout Box") must not be connected to the ignition coil (red one) but to one of the "AUX output". Because, if it is like on your diagram, when you accelerate on the speed indicator you add the rpm !
    By hoping it will help people

    Very nice build and thanks for sharing. I was wondering if you could post the wiring diagram in the PowerPoint format so I could edit for my application?

    Very good info, thanks for taking the time to make these. What kind of 40 AMP fuse did you use on main power cable for M-unit, I didn't see that?

    Hi. Thanks for this great video. I'm about to install m.unit blue and I have a breakout Box-B with Otoscope Pro and Air Temp Sensor. I'm wondering if it is necessary to wire the TUTN R, TURN L, AND HI-BEAM since they are already "managed" bu the m.unit blue. Thanks in advance for your answer.

    Amazing videos! You explain things so well! I am rebuilding a '77 R100/7 and am getting close to redoing the wiring over winter. These videos are priceless!.
    ONE Question, after you changed out to the Domino clutch assembly in a later video, it appears you do not have a clutch switch anymore so that you can start the bike while in gear or disable the starter if it is in gear. Can you explain what you ended up with?

    • @TheLongWayThereUK
      @TheLongWayThereUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Brandon. Thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying the journey. I have not included the clutch switch in the circuit. Even though the first lever had the switch terminals I’d omitted it from my design as I wanted to keep the wiring as simple as possible.

    Thanks for all the work you've done, I have a question, I own a '79 R100rs that doesn't have the injection control unit. can i connect the M unit without the box on the right of the schematic you drew?

    Have you done anything to replace the clutch switch? I replaced the clutch and now when I put my bike into gear with clutch pulled in and stand up bike shuts off. Not sure if it’s electrical problem. I pretty much wired my bike following your videos (thanks you 🙏🏽🙌🏽).

    • @TheLongWayThereUK
      @TheLongWayThereUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Danson. I’ve not used a clutch switch. I left that out of my build. In fact the domino clutch lever that I replaced the cheap one with doesn’t have a switch built in.

    hey mate, great videos as always. just a quick question about the two original wires coming out the bottom left side of the motor (neutral light & something else?) just wondering, did you reconnect them or leave them out

    • @TheLongWayThereUK
      @TheLongWayThereUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They were the neutral light and oil pressure switch. And yes I’ve connected them via the breakout box. Works a treat!

    Hello mate, great work again.
    Is it possible that you did a little mistake in your diagramm version 6 ? Isn’t the brown cable grounding and doesn’t the black one go to the coil ? In one of your first videos about the electricity you did it like that.
    Best regards from Germany
    Marcel

    Hi did you end up sharing how you wired the tach to the motoscope pro? Would love to know how you wire that up

    • @TheLongWayThereUK
      @TheLongWayThereUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. The tach is the brown wire from the coil to the motoscope pro. From memory that’s how the original tach was wired. Thanks for mentioning it as I haven’t labelled the motoscope pro input wires. I’ll do that for my next version. Actually, if you google the motoscope pro instructions it tells you how to wire the tach - so check there just to be sure.

    Thank you for your effort. Very helpful! May I ask something - In drawing Version 5 , you have connected breakout box +12V with mo.unit OUT AUX.
    Since Version 6 and 8 you have connected breakout box +12V with mo.unit OUT IGNITION. Could you please tell me , what is right or wrong. Thank you very much.

    • @TheLongWayThereUK
      @TheLongWayThereUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Aux and ignition are pretty bunch the same thing. Aux 1 & 2 are configurable in settings and I have them configured to come on with the ignition. So it’s same same.

    Great vid again! Is this box necessary to get the indicator lights to work? Thanks in advance!

    • @TheLongWayThereUK
      @TheLongWayThereUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. The indicators will work without this box. However it is needed if you want the warning lights to appear on your dashboard. At least with this set up. I can’t comment for other dash setups.

      @@frederikvolkers8319 No, on the motogadget homepage is an important note witch says, if you want to connect control lights or the digital bus from modern triumph or harley davidson you will need a breakout box. If you have a R9T you can connect the orange cable directly to the bus on the motorcycle. ;-)

    Good video , Thanks ! Do you have a web site i can go to for the updated schematic? I’m working on a R100/7 & looking into the Motogadget products for it , I wasn’t familiar w/the breakout box , at the risk of asking a stupid question doesn’t the M Unit Blue have the outputs for indicators? If so what is the advantage of using the breakout box ? Thanks again & looking forward to following your work on your airhead ! Mark ( Florida,USA )
