    Brother, I just wanted to thank you and let you know that I'm gonna go out tomorrow and wire up my 81 xv750 because of how easy you made all this. Thank you so much! It's been sitting in my garage for years because I was too scared to start taking out the 42 year old harness but now , I'm gonna get that fiery woman roadworthy!

    • @mikehannigan848

      ok, so I have a fuse block but I'm confused as to where I should attach the brown wire from the main switch(not the tap to the regulator/rectifier) onto the fuse block...to clarify, I do not know whether to connect it at the +,-, or to the side positive output terminals, or the ground input terminals... I think 90% of everything else is correct with uncertainty resting in the fuseblock connections and whether I have the two wires connecting the starter and solenoid attached the proper wires "the aftermarket solenoid uses two completely different colored wires than the stock wires. Any further help you can give me or if you explained it in the videos and I missed it maybe some time stamps? Thanks!

    Killer videos man! These are really helpful in demystifying bike wiring. Its much easier as a new builder to break down these steps into individual components. This way the project doesn't seem so daunting and over complicated. Once the bike fires up, everything else just seems less complicated.

    What about the little block of diodes either in the headlight or (as mine are) under the seat, are they also no longer needed?
    Where does the nuetral detect wire that is on the connector to the rectifier connect?

    What is the difference between wiring a tci vs a cdi? I am re-wiring a 93' xv1100 that came with a cdi. The wiring on this bike is complete cobb-job.
    All components test out ok thanks to your first bare bones video. I Re-grounded frame, starter, etc. with thick wire as suggested. I need to know how to go from the small wire on the 3post solenoid to the starter relay if even needed? The cdi, to the coils, kill switch, start switch, etc.. I am using a Toggle switch instead of a keyed ignition. Any advise could save this bikes life. cheers!

    Question Chief?
    I have 83 xv750 but my engine is 1996 with one pickup coil but I was using the black TCI and start having issues and my bike stop working no sparks and all my wiring is chopped.
    So I'm using your tutorial and start from scratch but I'll be using my 83 gold TCI.
    Can I connect my pick up coil to the gold TCI?
    Only has 2 cables, 1 green, 1blue.
    Should I connect them the same way it was?

      @chiefpepdesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oof, that's a hard question. I always had hard times figuring out which pin is which color. The wire colors on the connector which is on the black one should be corresponding to the colors which come out of the gold or silver colored one I guess... Does that help?

      Didn't fire up, just crank but no sparks!
      I'm getting so frustrated...
      I don't know if it's normal from the TCI to send all 12v to my coils( including orange and gray 12v) or they should be ground?
      Also, I always get ground from my 4 pins to the pick up coil, don't know what to do...
      Not getting any sparks from any TCI set up I did.
      I follow the instructions from Chief and Virago tech forum for 1996 engine with the black TCI and nothing and now follow the 1983 TCI gold J4T00671 and nothing.
      Any suggestions from Chief or anyone that knows about bare bones Virago?
      Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Love your videos. They have helped me with a lot of my questions and build ideas with my 81 virago build. I am having one issue, and I hope you can point me in the right direction. I was removing the starter to replace it because the gear was broken off into the case. After removing the shift lever and case, the shift mechanism pulled off of the shift cylinder (not sure what to call it). I've tried putting back into the right orientation several times thinkin I was putting it back wrong but, once it's put together, it will only shift into first and neutral. Is it because I have to put the case back together and fill it with fluids? I know some older bikes have a hydro lock system but I don't want to waste new fluids and have to dump it back out if that's not it. Just trying to save money and time. I've watched so many videos on TH-cam, especially yours, and you have a super firm grasp on a lot of Virago issues and workings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @chiefpepdesign
      @chiefpepdesign  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike McDermott Thank you so much! Are you trying to shift it static? Because that won't work. You only can shift up further then second gear when you spin your wheel or shaft. Rather with the wheel on so you make big turns. Or roll the bike if you can't lift the wheel. The shafts and all won't find their way static... Have you found my video where I install the shift mechanism? You can pause the video and compare your installation. Just to make sure.

    Doesn’t wiring you solenoid to the coils and etc directly,instead of going through the key first, make your Motobike work without turning the key on?

    • @chiefpepdesign
      @chiefpepdesign  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No. The main power is given by the key as very first. Main power to Regulator Rectifier 'on or off'. And, it also sends power to the fuse box (on or off) and the fuse box gives the power tot the coils... Follow this step by step video very closely as I explain this.

      I don't know. You would have to follow the original wire scheme. I don't have that handy. You can act the sidestandswitch the same as the killswitch. It just cuts off power. It's nothing special.

    Question! I've got a regular car fuse and a cylinder glass fuse. They both say 10A, but, since something is wrong, one of them blew (the glass cylinder), while the other didn't (the regular one), causing a tiny fire in my wiring harness. Why? I thought there was no difference as long as I have the same amperage. :?
    The videos are great, learned so much from these, thank you!

    • @chiefpepdesign
      @chiefpepdesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well obviously you have a (serious) short circuit somewhere. Maybe the glass one is a bit more sensative... I recon if you put a plastic one in that place, it would also pop. One them goes first. If the glass one is the first, then the other one doesn't. Same goes if you put two plastic ones in the same loom.

    Hi love the video. Really informative considering I don't know much when it comes to electricity. I was curious though, does it matter the brand or type of my regulator/rectifier? I have a 1981 xs400, but i don't know what I need. Can I just use one from the same bike as mine but a newer year? Sorry I'm just kind of lost here. Thanks.

      I find that always hard to answer. What the thing does is make ac current to dc current. In a certain amount to charge the battery. Since a 1985 R/R doesn't work on a '81 XV I guess it comes pretty narrow. So I darn't tell...

      The same as all the other questions below with different bikes. First find the wiring diagram. Then, just draw the wires like I did in this video. Pick a color which you like for each. If you want to make it easy, pick my colors.

    Ok i get what you are saying, but a IC IGNITER has 10 pins, but in the Kawasaki diagram only had 9 wires going in, so which pin has no wire, unless you know what pin has no wire the unit will not work. none of the part have wires or block on them, unless you are saying it dose not mater what pin you miss as long as you have 9 in

    • @chiefpepdesign
      @chiefpepdesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No offcourse not. You could go to a scrapyard and try to find one there. Otherwise go to a dedicated Kawasaki forum. I am very sure you are not the first one with this question and otherwise there will be someone who is willing to make a picture of their connection.

    • @chiefpepdesign
      @chiefpepdesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Offcourse you can! Then the last turn of the starterkey switch would be exactly the same as pressing a button. It's just a ground cable that is interupted. It needs somebody or something that puts those wires together. Like an on and off switch. Closed/open line as I tried to explain at 17:42 but also a few other times in this video like the kill switch part at 14:42.
