  • You've probably heard these cars are either incredibly reliable or horribly unreliable depending upon your circle of automotive friends and their level of knowledge. In this video I'll talk about what it is like to actually live with a 1993 Audi S4 with mild modifications as a daily driver.
    My family has been using one or more of these UrS4 models in daily use since July of 1995 so we've got a pretty good feel for what goes wrong when used frequently.
    If you have any questions or comments I'll be happy to read and reply to them!
    My old S6 Avant is still available for sale as of October 27th, 2022. Find it here...

    Thanks for the very good videos. You are the only one I have seen who tells and shows everything about these cars.
    In my opinion, the car is built like a tank. I have also owned c4 with all engine types, luckily I still own s6 in daily use.
    There are no plans to change it.
    Hats off to you for keeping your machines beautiful and in good condition

      Thank you Silvar, I'm working on getting more content out there for these cars. Have quite a bit of footage I've shot in the past year that needs to be edited and released so there should be some more coming. I agree, these cars were very well built at the time which is why they can still be solid drivers all these years later.

    Bought my 95 s6 that was up for a part out, been daily driving it up in Ontario year round for 2 years and love it. Bought it at 380k km, now has a 3071 kit and is at 475k and going up over 1200/week. Honestly cant see myself getting rid of it, even picked up a beat 92 s4 too in hopes of finding an avant to swap.

It definitely requires a different style of driving compared to just any old car. I've been driving these so long I can drive them almost telepathically at this point which helps! ;-)

    I bought my emerald/ecru '93 in early 2003 and daily drove it for five years. It was only mildly tuned, but managed to make it work without inflicting undue stress and headaches along the way. My experience was that the car was exceptionally reliable, but my example was a two-owner, extremely well-cared for and pampered, and I admit that I paid quite a bit for it.. However, it was more than worth it, as I didn't have to deal with any major failures or exorbitant degrees of "sorting out" of issues along the way.
    I would totally buy another UrS, if they weren't as old as they are at this point... And I *only* say that because parts have only become harder to find, with many completely unavailable. And that'd be OK if I were going to make a garage queen out of the thing, but I want to drive it, and drive it regularly, and spiritedly, and that usually means replacing parts every so often... And I wouldn't want to find the car on jack stands for months on account of one or two virtually non-existent miscellaneous obscure little components. I can't tell you how tantalizing I find the idea of an AAN-swapped CQ or 4k or, hell, even a spicy modified V8q with a stick.. God, I never quite grew out of my "Audi phase," even now over 25 years since first catching the bug. But at this point, the scarcity of parts is *the* single, major precluding factor, effectively preventing me from making the jump back into the community.
    I will forever be able and more than willing to wax nostalgic about 80's/90's Audis (and VWs, for that matter), and will forever defend those 4-ringed models when debating the merits and virtues of enthusiast vehicles from that era... But, barring some remote and almost unimaginable circumstances, it's unlikely I'll be buying any of them again any time in the foreseeable future. (Unless, of course, something really special pops up, then forget everything i just said 😂)

    • @SCARSORGofficial
      @SCARSORGofficial  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great comment! And yes, ALL of ours have been exceptionally reliable as well. Like you said, it comes down to buying a car that has been maintained and not simple tuned to go faster. I will say that I don't (yet) find it that difficult to find parts for the major mechanical components of the car but some of the trim and cosmetics are definitely unobtainium at this point. The rear upper suspension mounts are one exception... those are a bit of a needle in haystack as of late.

    Great video. Gave me some ideas on what to do preventive maintenance on next in the engine bay. Weird Grundy insures your urS cars. They would not ensure my urS6, but were happy to insure my urq... I went with American collectors insurance.

    • @SCARSORGofficial
      @SCARSORGofficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Surprised to hear about Grundy. I've used them since November of 2019. They initially held my application as pending approval because they stated it wasn't a rare or collectible vehicle. I wrote them a small "book" about the UrS4 since they clearly weren't familiar with it. After that, no problem. What did they say to you about the UrS6? It might be the case of just educating them a bit as they're likely unaware that the UrS4 and UrS6 are more or less the same car.

    • @russphillips2983
      @russphillips2983 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They had just told me the underwriters felt the car was not a collector car. So I shared them a link with an article from Hagerty saying it was a collector car. They still said sorry, no. I had been using Hagerty on my urq, but they were double for just one car.
