In real life, the JBL Flip 6 actually sounds better than the Motion Plus. It has a lot more clarity and less muddy Bass, the Motion Plus is great for the price, but there is a noticeable difference between the clarity
@@straightflush6095 well well.. motion+ is a 3yr old release and back then, jbl didn't even know what tweeters were... especially at these sizes. Back then, the motion plus even outperformed the Xtreme2 in loudness and completely blowed the charge4 away in bass, loudness and clarity. It took jbl 3years to finally release the charge5 which could beat the vintage speaker even though the c5 is quite a bit chunkier.
@@stargazerxdd it really is a great speaker, loudness and claritywise its almost on par with the xtreme 2 which is really damn impressive, but it never had any deep bass, just upper bass

I just picked up the Flip 6 a week ago. I am loving the sound quality. It is plenty loud enough imo. I didn't buy this to shake the wslls--I have a larger home system to do that. The Flip does have one downside which is a somewhat shorter battery life. I have a 40,000 mah power bank to address that. I bought the JBL for 2 reasons--smaller form factor--it is only 1.2 lbs vs the Anker 4plus lbs weight. I will be taking this backpacking, and on my mtb during commutes. It is much smaller than the Anker, and so a much better choice for me. Re sound quality--that is my second reason. I expected good sound from JBL and am very satisfied with the Flip 6. It cranks loud enough for what I want, and sounds great! Not a JBL fanboy as this is my first purchase of a JBL product. There are so many good choices out there--this is just my 2 cents worth.
I had Motion+ before I started watch your YT channel. After watching your movies I bought Motion Boom. Both Anker speakers are fantastic, best on the market among the competition. I would never swap or think about JBL speakers.
Such a shame you can't stereo link them so their strenghts can be combined. If the Boom had an aux port then you'd be able to connect them via a splitter... Let's hope Soundcore makes a motion boom 2
@@steveaustin6608 it’s so big for no reason, it’s electronics board is pretty small and cheap, the speaker drivers take up about 45% of the front of the speaker and the handle is brittle plastic. I prefer the soundcore motion+ to the boom

JBL just throwing new speakers to Soundcore's slaughterhouse at this point, the 100% volume test was a massacre for the Flip 6. Gotta love that Motion Boom deep bass rumble. Brought both my Motion Boom paired in TWS at a party and they were all grabbing them by the handle like an old school Boombox having a blast so hell say all you want about the design the Motion Boom is just pure fun. just fell into it. i just wanted to mess with stuff on youtube. i reviewed a lot of different stuff just for fun but i was always an audio guy and when i got a ton of stick for liking the charging 3 and critising the vifa helsinki i kinda figured we need more opinions out there. the so called audiophile channels were insisting what they think is the only right way to think which as we all know is boll%^&s.
Every time you said after experiencing the Motion Boom you couldn’t go back to the Motion+ I was giving you the side eye. That is until now. Now that I finally copped the MB I know exactly how you feel. I didn’t know I needed more bass, or better yet sub bass 😂. Do I dare say that this speaker sounds incredible, especially when you consider its size and price. The first thing I played on the MB was Monolink’s album “Under The Darkening Skies” and it sounded impeccable. If your not familiar (singer songwriter meets EDM) please check it out. @@alanrossreviews Don’t know if you noticed but the dude from the “Wanna Buy It” TH-cam channel recently did a comparison between the Wildbox and the Motion Boom. Supposedly Mifa asked him specifically to compare…. He does and he prefers the Wildbox. One caveat though is he refuses to use the MB’s custom eq. What’s the point if you’re not. I have a feeling that most of these tech reviewers on TH-cam who’ve tested or compared the Motion Boom don’t use the custom eq.
yes thats totally missing the point. i still get people telling me its not fair if i eq it but again they miss the point. its not layered eq, its replacing the default dsp and the speakers firmware is designed to play nice with it. plus it will play that eq not matter what source device. so thats why i only compare a speaker with eq when its a firmware eq. but end of day, who gives a shit? they can come to my channel to hear some eq on it or use mr wanna buy it channel to hear default, so options all round. i dont watch that channel btw,. now i think using custom eq against the wildbox is important because thats a big difference between them, the ability to embed eq in the boom and have multiple eqs. yeah mifa sent me the wildbox to, just havent had a chance to to the video yet. it will come.
Ross Boss! I almost got suckered into buying a Flip but you saved me. I ended up buying the boom. the more I hear from the motion boom the happier I am that I went with it. Purchased it yesterday for $80. Can’t beat it at all. My last speaker was a Ion Surf…which to be honest was junk. I’m still rocking my Monster Superstar from 2014 but its battery is shot. I almost have to leave it plugged up constantly so it stays in the bathroom and I listen whilst I’m showering.
I subbed and liked and wanted to say thank you for such clear and organized reviews, straightforward and lovely. And an all around bit of nice "chillin with a friend in their sweet room" vibe. I'm going to go off back to your page and try and look for the next "level up" in terms of quality. From the little I've learned I'd assume that would mean looking at 50W or 60W speakers next? Still though, I wonder if those speakers are going to be huge and unwieldy or still portable like I'm looking for.
Awesome, thank you! those bigger speakers tend to be boomboxes and not next level up in audio quality. im still searching myself. ive had speakers costing several hundreds of pounds and they all tend to be quite niche meaning they sound good only in certain scenarios, or genres or volume levels. not my idea of money well spent. 😁 tx for sub!
Either way, that's not a good idea since you're putting extra cycles on your difficult to replace integrated speaker battery. Just buy a small powerbank instead, you can even charge your speaker in case that loses juice first
No matter where I search. I still haven't found a speaker as compact and powerfull as the Motion + with that clarity... Yes, not that deep bass, but still, anything of its size can't compare with that little speaker beast. I've managed to burn the tweeters a couple of times via the aux input tho.
Yup knew the results but it's still a fun video. Motion Boom went for about £60 on black friday. How about comparing Flip 6 against some of the Micro speakers?

Alan you know how much I love the motion boom, I have two of them. My son Austin (8) keeps asking me can I listen to your speaker daddy?So I have to let him listen to one of my motion booms. Because of your reviews motion boom has gone up from $85 to almost $105. I wanted to get my son his own speaker but did not want to pay the 105. So I waited patiently and sure enough yesterday it went on sale for $73. It was so good I tried to buy two of them for him but it said only one per customer on Amazon. None the less I got him his own motion Boom for only 73 US dollars. When I bought mine I got mine on sale for $80 each. As you know no speaker comes close to these in stereo for the money. I find you very funny keep up the great work. when you review the motion bloom again see if you can mention Ray and Austin from USA and how much we love the speaker and how I bought my eight-year-old austin his own motion boom speaker for Christmas. Your reviews and custom eq are the best. My motion+ is rattling after 2 years and can’t decide if I should get another or the boom. Love the tweeters in the +

My old motion+ only distorts / rattles seemingly from one tweeter above 80% or so volume, so I think I’ll continue using that and cranking up the boom when I want bass 😎 Have yet to try either speaker in stereo either
Or you can consider Mifa wildbox, looks like motion boom but have tweeters, sounds very god. At lower volume the bass is less bosted than the boom, but at Max volume it sounds great, deep full bass and very good clarity. And it have lights 😎
@@alanrossreviews just got the motion boom. Definitely a beast in its own right. Still playing around with the custom eq, can get some interesting results. Immediately heard the lack of the tweeters, I’ve come to love the high end the + can deliver. You can almost make the boom sound like it has tweeters with the EQ but you can still tell in certain parts of arrangements ;) Interesting in trying that Wildbox, but QA looks a little worse. Overall very happy for more detailed low end with the Boom, and a lot of things sound less constricted. but I love how responsive the little +’s low end sounds too :)
Help! I don’t feel like I understand what “clean” sound means, I feel like the Anker Motion Boom is crisper, and is that not the same thing? 😭 I felt like I could hear things more distinctly on that than the Motion Plus, but maybe I’m crazy.
😯... surprise result... the filp 6 gets thoroughly thrashed. 🙈 It was fun to watch, though. Depending on pricing, you could buy a motion boom or plus and still have enough for either a maxsound plus, soundcore boost, or bogasing m4 as compared to one flip 6. There's the argument for the flip being smaller, lighter, and more throwable but that's the best it has to offer. Outstanding comparison, as always, Alan! 👍😁👏
yup! its small and knoackable and better than the flip 5. for a lot of people thats all they need to know. then there is the crowd that gets excited because it has a tweeter and for them that will also be enough.

thank for all your videos! just came around because I'm looking for a speaker to play synths outdoor on a minimal setup... yeah for now I did order Motion Boom and W-King D7 (didn't you yet make a comparaison on that one?). I will try to make my own comparaison but honnestly I am secretly hoping you'll try D7 as well. Only thing I don't need on Motion Boom, is that handle. Loosing place for my setup, and unfortunalely a big issue for me where I need to save place. I did consider D8 or D9 (and removing that handle on the D9), but decided to give a chance to the D7-60W, because it is the latest one from W-King and it would fit perfect my coffer.
I just shortly update. I am at the moment testing both D7 and motion boom. No idea why, but I prefer D7. but it's a close thing. Seems to me the D7 had more brightness still basses are very good making boom boom. But I am testing them right after unpacking, without any change in EQ.

Decided that the Jbl flip 6 was the best for my needs needed a good portable speaker that wasn’t too heavy, almost bought the anker soundcore motion+ until I heard that it was dubble the weight, anyways love my Flip 6!

Flip 6 doesn't have the deep bass that the motion boom has. Motion boom is a bigger speaker flip 6 is small and portable. It depends on what you need it for but if it's my money I'm going with the boom.
Awesome videos thanks I credit you to owning the motion boom and soundcore boost. When you did your eq you mentioned before they are designed for max volume level. If listened mostly at 40-60% volume, would mostly just the 80 and 150hz change? As that's what changes the most when maxing out the volume. Thanks!

I don’t understand the hate for the flip 6 at the moment. Had the motion plus and jbl flip 6 for testing, for me the flip 6 was the clear winner! (After adjusting EQ settings on both). Of course it’s not that powerful/loud at high volumes like the motion, but it’s three times smaller!!! It’s way more portable and durable and at low volumes, it sounds much better, warmer and clearer, that’s my opinion. Sent back the motion and proud of JBL.
I had flip 6 and motion plus. Both are good. There’s a difference..flip 6 bass is very good in size and easy portable … whereas motion plus bass is not good, But it is stereo sound and is good when kept at high volume. That is good for it. Finally, I prefer flip 6 for bass and easy portable than motion plus.

Greetings MR Alan love your reviews...just one complain though; why not test all speakers on a flat EQ and then normalize using the spl meter, just for the sake of consistency as all speakers don't use the same app. Then you could drop the technical graphs and custom eq settings down the description(or even start a squiglink for speakers)
ive been through this multiple times. i do it my way and i cant please everyone. i use custom where it can be embedded into the firmware and where it makes a significant difference. on first review of every speaker you get to hear it in default. you cant normalise with a spl meter. sadly too many people have been mislead by other channels and think this actually makes sense. you are talking max readings. this is in no way a way to normalise tracks. not a million miles close. its hard battling the amount of misinformation out there.
holy crap.... yesterday prime day I bought motion+ for 67euros, but after watching some comparisons on YT I'm having second thoughts that maybe I should cancell my order and get the Flip 6 now I'm shocked how sometimes similar other times much worse it sounds compared to motion+ on your vid... dunno what's going on why on some yt channels one sounds better than the other and vice versa?
very few youthbe channels actually make decent recordings, you cant just place a phone in front of a speaker and press record. why not get the motion boom?
@@alanrossreviews Boom is way too big and I hate the handle. Also fear of too much bass. Seems like motion+ is the only cheap price allarounder with balanced sound (after EQ) and low latency, which plays an important factor since I'm gooing to use it with chromecast for YT and movies. Though still craving for Flip 6, but the more I know about it the more I realize it's more for casual music listening on the go, so maybe I'll get one for the good price. Soundcore offer more features and I'm hoping I will get pleasing sound with it.
I just tested the JBL and Anker motion+ side by side and the JBL sounded quite a bit cleaner. I adjusted the EQ on the motion+ using your settings, and then adjusting them to replicate the JBL sound and realized it was the limitation of the hardware that was creating the muddy sound on the motion+. The only time the Anker won out is in songs with heavy stereo L - R separation (nina simone's sinnerman in my test). Even then, stereo sound isn't a big priority in a small speaker for me. I would rather get two small JBLs down the road then two of the Ankers

Уверен это flip 6 Также на порядок компактнее это jbl. Но продолжаем сравнивать plus и flip6 Сейчас цена почти одинаковая. На plus надо настраивать эквалайзер. Лично мне эти настройки не нужны. Сколько себя знаю. Не любитель ковыряться настраивать чтобы остаток времени послушать. Люблю. Включил. И играет на уровне. В общем за меньшие размеры и меньше усилий на настройки, я бы выбрал flip 6! Но plus играет громко и хорошо! Но она больше
It's a cool comparison but these figures are in a completely different category from the flip 6... the flip 6 is a much smaller speaker the charge 5 is probably a much better comparison

Only thing is JBL can have 100 connected, anker is 2 max
JBL is more compact, that's the whole point of portable speakers, you cannot carry suitcase everywhere.

just fell into it. i just wanted to mess with stuff on youtube. i reviewed a lot of different stuff just for fun but i was always an audio guy and when i got a ton of stick for liking the charging 3 and critising the vifa helsinki i kinda figured we need more opinions out there. the so called audiophile channels were insisting what they think is the only right way to think which as we all know is boll%^&s.

Every time you said after experiencing the Motion Boom you couldn’t go back to the Motion+ I was giving you the side eye. That is until now. Now that I finally copped the MB I know exactly how you feel. I didn’t know I needed more bass, or better yet sub bass 😂. Do I dare say that this speaker sounds incredible, especially when you consider its size and price. The first thing I played on the MB was Monolink’s album “Under The Darkening Skies” and it sounded impeccable. If your not familiar (singer songwriter meets EDM) please check it out. Btw, I used your eq settings. Thanks you

@@alanrossreviews Don’t know if you noticed but the dude from the “Wanna Buy It” TH-cam channel recently did a comparison between the Wildbox and the Motion Boom. Supposedly Mifa asked him specifically to compare…. He does and he prefers the Wildbox. One caveat though is he refuses to use the MB’s custom eq. What’s the point if you’re not. I have a feeling that most of these tech reviewers on TH-cam who’ve tested or compared the Motion Boom don’t use the custom eq.
yes thats totally missing the point. i still get people telling me its not fair if i eq it but again they miss the point. its not layered eq, its replacing the default dsp and the speakers firmware is designed to play nice with it. plus it will play that eq not matter what source device. so thats why i only compare a speaker with eq when its a firmware eq. but end of day, who gives a shit? they can come to my channel to hear some eq on it or use mr wanna buy it channel to hear default, so options all round. i dont watch that channel btw,. now i think using custom eq against the wildbox is important because thats a big difference between them, the ability to embed eq in the boom and have multiple eqs. yeah mifa sent me the wildbox to, just havent had a chance to to the video yet. it will come.
motion + is so much more hifi sounding then boom. sure boom offers more bass but that`s all it has to offer. in the end it`s about hifi or bass.
Ross Boss! I almost got suckered into buying a Flip but you saved me. I ended up buying the boom. the more I hear from the motion boom the happier I am that I went with it. Purchased it yesterday for $80. Can’t beat it at all. My last speaker was a Ion Surf…which to be honest was junk. I’m still rocking my Monster Superstar from 2014 but its battery is shot. I almost have to leave it plugged up constantly so it stays in the bathroom and I listen whilst I’m showering.

I subbed and liked and wanted to say thank you for such clear and organized reviews, straightforward and lovely. And an all around bit of nice "chillin with a friend in their sweet room" vibe. I'm going to go off back to your page and try and look for the next "level up" in terms of quality. From the little I've learned I'd assume that would mean looking at 50W or 60W speakers next? Still though, I wonder if those speakers are going to be huge and unwieldy or still portable like I'm looking for.
Awesome, thank you! those bigger speakers tend to be boomboxes and not next level up in audio quality. im still searching myself. ive had speakers costing several hundreds of pounds and they all tend to be quite niche meaning they sound good only in certain scenarios, or genres or volume levels. not my idea of money well spent. 😁 tx for sub!

No matter where I search. I still haven't found a speaker as compact and powerfull as the Motion + with that clarity... Yes, not that deep bass, but still, anything of its size can't compare with that little speaker beast. I've managed to burn the tweeters a couple of times via the aux input tho.
motion boom and motion plus are so good even soundcore cant beat them. two of them will beat almost anything up to £300

Alan you know how much I love the motion boom, I have two of them. My son Austin (8) keeps asking me can I listen to your speaker daddy?So I have to let him listen to one of my motion booms. Because of your reviews motion boom has gone up from $85 to almost $105. I wanted to get my son his own speaker but did not want to pay the 105. So I waited patiently and sure enough yesterday it went on sale for $73. It was so good I tried to buy two of them for him but it said only one per customer on Amazon. None the less I got him his own motion Boom for only 73 US dollars. When I bought mine I got mine on sale for $80 each. As you know no speaker comes close to these in stereo for the money. I find you very funny keep up the great work. when you review the motion bloom again see if you can mention Ray and Austin from USA and how much we love the speaker and how I bought my eight-year-old austin his own motion boom speaker for Christmas. Deeper bass is always the motion boom.

Or you can consider Mifa wildbox, looks like motion boom but have tweeters, sounds very god. At lower volume the bass is less bosted than the boom, but at Max volume it sounds great, deep full bass and very good clarity. And it have lights 😎
@@alanrossreviews just got the motion boom. Definitely a beast in its own right. Still playing around with the custom eq, can get some interesting results. Immediately heard the lack of the tweeters, I’ve come to love the high end the + can deliver. You can almost make the boom sound like it has tweeters with the EQ but you can still tell in certain parts of arrangements ;) Interesting in trying that Wildbox, but QA looks a little worse. Overall very happy for more detailed low end with the Boom, and a lot of things sound less constricted. but I love how responsive the little +’s low end sounds too :)

😯... surprise result... the filp 6 gets thoroughly thrashed. 🙈 It was fun to watch, though. Depending on pricing, you could buy a motion boom or plus and still have enough for either a maxsound plus, soundcore boost, or bogasing m4 as compared to one flip 6. There's the argument for the flip being smaller, lighter, and more throwable but that's the best it has to offer. Outstanding comparison, as always, Alan! 👍😁👏
yup! its small and knoackable and better than the flip 5. for a lot of people thats all they need to know. then there is the crowd that gets excited because it has a tweeter and for them that will also be enough.
do you think the latency for the motion boom (170ms) will be too much to view TH-cam videos on a laptop?
if you get same latency then no thats not useable. however everyones use will give a different result, this is just my experience.

thank for all your videos! just came around because I'm looking for a speaker to play synths outdoor on a minimal setup... yeah for now I did order Motion Boom and W-King D7 (didn't you yet make a comparaison on that one?). I will try to make my own comparaison but honnestly I am secretly hoping you'll try D7 as well.
Only thing I don't need on Motion Boom, is that handle. Loosing place for my setup, and unfortunalely a big issue for me where I need to save place. I did consider D8 or D9 (and removing that handle on the D9), but decided to give a chance to the D7-60W, because it is the latest one from W-King and it would fit perfect my coffer.
I just shortly update. I am at the moment testing both D7 and motion boom. No idea why, but I prefer D7. but it's a close thing. Seems to me the D7 had more brightness still basses are very good making boom boom. But I am testing them right after unpacking, without any change in EQ.
Should I update my Flip 6 to the most recent firmware?
I have the motion boom and the battery was good for a while but after about 3 months of use it goes from 100% to 50% in only two hours at full volume
to be honest if you are playing bass heavy tracks at max then 50% after two hours isnt awful.

Flip 6 doesn't have the deep bass that the motion boom has. Motion boom is a bigger speaker flip 6 is small and portable. It depends on what you need it for but if it's my money I'm going with the boom.

When you did your eq you mentioned before they are designed for max volume level. If listened mostly at 40-60% volume, would mostly just the 80 and 150hz change? As that's what changes the most when maxing out the volume.

To be honest, the JBL Flip 6 held its own against speakers of much bigger drivers. It didn't sound that much far off in terms of loudness.

I don’t understand the hate for the flip 6 at the moment. Had the motion plus and jbl flip 6 for testing, for me the flip 6 was the clear winner! (After adjusting EQ settings on both). Of course it’s not that powerful/loud at high volumes like the motion, but it’s three times smaller!!! It’s way more portable and durable and at low volumes, it sounds much better, warmer and clearer, that’s my opinion. Sent back the motion and proud of JBL.

I had flip 6 and motion plus. Both are good. There’s a difference..flip 6 bass is very good in size and easy portable … whereas motion plus bass is not good, But it is stereo sound and is good when kept at high volume. That is good for it. Finally, I prefer flip 6 for bass and easy portable than motion plus.

love your reviews...just one complain though; why not test all speakers on a flat EQ and then normalize using the spl meter, just for the sake of consistency as all speakers don't use the same app. Then you could drop the technical graphs and custom eq settings down the description(or even start a squiglink for speakers)
ive been through this multiple times. i do it my way and i cant please everyone. i use custom where it can be embedded into the firmware and where it makes a significant difference. on first review of every speaker you get to hear it in default. you cant normalise with a spl meter. sadly too many people have been mislead by other channels and think this actually makes sense. you are talking max readings. this is in no way a way to normalise tracks. not a million miles close. its hard battling the amount of misinformation out there.

holy crap.... yesterday prime day I bought motion+ for 67euros, but after watching some comparisons on YT I'm having second thoughts that maybe I should cancell my order and get the Flip 6 now I'm shocked how sometimes similar other times much worse it sounds compared to motion+ on your vid... dunno what's going on why on some yt channels one sounds better than the other and vice versa?
very few youthbe channels actually make decent recordings, you cant just place a phone in front of a speaker and press record. why not get the motion boom?

Seems like motion+ is the only cheap price allarounder with balanced sound (after EQ) and low latency, which plays an important factor since I'm gooing to use it with chromecast for YT and movies. Though still craving for Flip 6, but the more I know about it the more I realize it's more for casual music listening on the go, so maybe I'll get one for the good price. Soundcore offer more features and I'm hoping I will get pleasing sound with it.

I just tested the JBL and Anker motion+ side by side and the JBL sounded quite a bit cleaner. I adjusted the EQ on the motion+ using your settings, and then adjusting them to replicate the JBL sound and realized it was the limitation of the hardware that was creating the muddy sound on the motion+. The only time the Anker won out is in songs with heavy stereo L - R separation (nina simone's sinnerman in my test). Even then, stereo sound isn't a big priority in a small speaker for me. I would rather get two small JBLs down the road then two of the Ankers

В общем за меньшие размеры и меньше усилий на настройки, я бы выбрал flip 6!
