But now it has an eq in the app. I think with the equalizer off on the JBL the bose sounds better but with the eq on I think the JBL sounds better. So if bose added an equalizer that could change things. I know the speaker has position IQ technology where it’s supposed to adjust the sound depending on which way you lay it but it would be nice to be able to turn that off if you wanted to. A similar portable speaker called the sonos roam has a similar feature but in the sonos s2 app you can turn that feature off. In the bose app you cannot do that or on the speaker itself either. And also Sonos has an adjustable EQ within the app like the JBL. The bose is behind the times with that but I bet they’ll change for the better. I would turn position IQ off and have an equalizer set to my liking if I could. I prefer my bose soundlink flex to sit upright so it’s pointing at me but they say it will produce more bass if you lay it flat, in my testing this is true. A little more bass for sure. Which I like. Great to see you back Alan😀. I know it has nothing to do with your video but just wandering if you or any of your subscribers know anything about new update on the motion + ?
It’s strange. My Flex on its back sounds louder and brighter with increased treble and less boomy more controlled bass and a wider sound stage with more and clearer background notes being heard. I actually much prefer it in on its back. It just sounds more open and less compressed. High-hats, background vocals, etc are all louder and clearer. Plus on its back is better for off axis listening which I’d imagine most people would be doing quite often. Overall I’m very satisfied with my Bose Flex. Never been a big fan of Bose due to their usual muddy vocals and high price tag, but this one seems clear and reasonably priced. I heard this demo at Target next to the Marshall Emberton II and it wasn’t even close. The Emberton just sounded really cheap…and not in price.
@alanrossreviews I believe it lacks low mids, where that punchy bass lives. The higher mids, where vocals live, is actually very prominent. This Flex perplexes me cause I just find the sound so amazing for a handheld speaker and reminds me of when I had my big Paradigm system. You do a great job on frequency analysis and I wonder if you know about speaker resonance or speaker noise (like from poor casing). I just find most speakers this size have a boxy sound or something that sounds unpleasant. Like the Uboom L…I bought it due to all the hype and it just sounded boxy, like perhaps frequencies where bleeding into each other. I hear it on many of these small speakers. The only time I don’t is on speakers that have no bass. But the Flex is the first I’ve ever heard such clean, no bleeding noise on a small speaker while have rich bass. Usually need large speakers with powered sub for this experience.
I saw a lot of videos on Bluetooth speakers - particularly Bose Flex and Marshall. I finally went to a store in Dubai and checked Bose Flex, Bose Revolve plus 2, Marshall Emberton, Bose SL Mini 2 (SE),, Soundcore Motion plus and Soundcore x600 and Soundcore Motion 300. I found the Flex an incredible value for money and it was sometimes sounding better than the Revolve 2. The revolve 2 has a very sweet tone and i think it polishes the harsh sounds and gives out a smooth output. The Flex may not be as sweet but it has amazing clarity and fullness, and it did not make sense to go with the more expensive Revolve vs the Flex. The Mini 2 Special Edition was crap as I could barely hear the sound. The Soundlink x600 was incredible with the Spatial audio but it's not as portable and didn't sound great without Spatial Audio. I was about to buy the Bose Flex, and then I tried the Soundcore Motion 300. Tbh, I was blown away by Motion 300's clarity given that it's much cheaper than the Bose speaker. My friend who came along with me is into music production, and even he was surprised by the loudness and clarity of sound reproduction by Motion 300. The Soundcore Motion plus was bigger but fell short of achieving the clarity which the smaller Motion 300 has. Super happy with my purchase. Of course I can't compare Motion 300 with the more expensive speakers but I honestly felt it's the best bluetooth portable speaker given it's power and clarity
Grate to see you back. I find it funny the Charge 5 is 144 at walmart but everywhere else is 175(which is the price I paid) So I find it hard to pay 130 for the Flip 6. as far as the Bose well I might just grab it for review
I never been a big fan of bose sound signature easy highs decent mids and lots of bass for the speaker size and nope they never sent me a shipping label and I even contacted JBL again asking to REVIEW a different speakers and they said no because my views is currently to low and they never mention anything else about the Xtreme 3
ha! shows how hit and miss they are! have you tried getting speakers from anyone else? you would have more chance from the likes of tribit and that type, they sent me speakers when i was just starting.
I have not tried anyone else and the budget friendly speakers never get that many views or really excited me except for Anker. But i am thinking about Sony,Diamond box,B&O,Devialet which I have a even lower chance 😅
Bose soundlink flex is the perfect travel speaker. Balanced sound and decent amount of bass for a mono speaker. The flip and charge are also good, but for outdoor use you have to be careful with the passive radiators. And with the eq you can tune them as you like. But the custom eq is not supported in stereo/party mode.
Far be it for me to pick holes in Alan's review, but from what I've read and seen on videos on the Flex, you don't need the app to connect the speaker to your media player, even the first time. Just press and hold the bluetooth button until it connects. If this is wrong, I'd like to know, because I don't like being forced into downloading an app for such a simple process.
yes this is what people are telling me, no app needed. I can only tell you my samsung kept throwing a fit that i needed the app. I should have tested more but i didnt think it through that it may not be correct.
when u pLAY AT 50% I like c5 but when u play at 100% I like flex. bit confuse which one to buy. my preference is bass. I want a speaker which will not irritate my ear in long listening like for 30-60min. so pls help me which one should I buy?
@@alanrossreviews i am new to your channel, and watch most of your video yesterday and i love it.. From your video i found some affordable speaker(cheaper) which almost does the same work( same sound) as the flex, like the tribit stormbox flow.. can you suggest me more speaker which sound like C5 or flex(in warmer and bass) but in cheaper range.
@@MMIliyas there isnt one, they are the leaders for their niche, cheaper means inferior, if you want inferior and cheaper thats another matter. id look at the soundcore boost.
Great review as always Alan. I'm curious what is the mili seconds lip sync on the soundcore motion boom. When I watch TH-cam videos and Prime movies it seems like it's really good. Thanks for your info. Ray
@@alanrossreviews I'm very impressed with it although I've never had anything like this before. I think it sounds good, and the build quality is excellent. I was cross shopping between the Sonos roam and this, but I saw this video th-cam.com/video/QU57jD-y0j0/w-d-xo.html Where the battery standby time of the roam was only 3 days, then it goes flat and that was a deal-breaker for me. The JBL is also good and with my ears I probably can't tell the difference but I preferred the design of this
I can`t decide between Charge 5 and Bose Flex. I own the Flex but could return it, and I already own a bigger BT speaker, the Teufel Boomster 2017 (NG). (3.5 kg or so) It would be really awesome if you could review the Teufel Boomster 2021, because I think it`s one of the best speakers for its size, but I don`t know how and if Teufel sends review samples. I can`t decide between the portability of the Flex (600g) (maybe I would it bring it with me more often?) and the higher volume and stronger bass of the Charge 5 (1kg) :D (1. world problems- I know^^) Your video is such a Great comparison! And I would`ve been surprised if the JBL Flip 6 didn`t sound too shrill for my ears, like the previous generations.
Nah i reached out to teufel some time ago and they blanked me. I like both charge 5 and flex. Ultimately get flex if you value smaller package otherwise get charge 5 for slightly better balancef
@@alanrossreviews I think I keep the flex and test it a lot. The "just put it in you bag-factor" of the Flex would win me over I guess. And it`s really stupid from Teufel to not answer you...
@@CrucialConflict. I kept the Bose flex because of its portability. But I really like the Charge 5! I disliked some older charge model, but the sound of the newer models improved a lot imo! (I think the charge 5 is one of the best bluetooth speakers for people who don`t own a bt speaker already-> nice sound/battery/price/size -performance!)
Thanks for another great video. The Flex seems like a great deal for traveling people, very low latency means you can pair it with your laptop and have fun without worrying about lip sync issues as with most other speakers. The Flip franchise hasn't really upgraded much along the years so seems quite meh...
Hey Alan, happy new year! Thank you for another great speaker review😉 What do you think about the difference between the Bose Soundlink Flex and the Anker Soundcore Boost ubgraded? I would say, in comparsion, the Bose isn't worth it's money.
@@alanrossreviews I would say, the bass is similar impressive for the size, but for my taste the mids of the Flex are a bit to low and the highs to bright and it's also a mono speaker with no EQ. And at least the Flex is more than 3* the price of the Boost.
Thanks for the (as always) good review. I already have JBL Boombox 3 and have ordered Bose Flex and JBL Charge 5 during the amazon prime day. I wanted to decide between one of them -- and ended up keeping both. Even though the Charge 5 is by far more powerful, at low to decent volumes (like drinking a wine, reading wikipedia and listening to some tunes) it just feels that the Bose "keeps the sound together". Its not the fLaT REspoNSe -- guess its rather because only one speaker is used, thus leading to a more "natural" sound feeling with more details. At mentioned volume levels JBL sounds to me a bit "disjointed", i.e. my brain somehow senses that some of the frequencies are coming from tweeter and the others from the main speaker, leading to some "mental distraction". What are your thoughts, Alan?
P.S. at higher volumes (louder than Bose's 60%), the JBL takes over and delivers much better (more power, bass, room filling and the overall "sound stability")
@@alanrossreviews Thank you for the fast reply! I got a semi-serious question :-): in case you need to leave your property (large scaled alien attack or resident-evil styled situation) and you can only leave with ONE bluetooth speaker -- which one would you choose? Happy weekend btw 🙂

My only critique of this speaker is that it sounds a bit muddy when there’s a lot going on in a track, like electric guitar etc.
i still have the roam but hate it. i wonder if mine is even faulty given the rave reviews others give it. given that bass is a weak point of the roam and its the strong point of the flex i would expect the flex to destroy it 😁😁
@@alanrossreviews I'm not a huge fan of it because of the way too recessed mids but hey for Bose it's pretty good. I really like your new track frequency response btw, it helps for understanding the comparison 👍

@@mageshwaranannamalai4900 its kinda unique for its size and seperate tweeters but it wont give deep bass, its more for clarity. I don't really listen to it any more.
Just received the bose flex, and I wasn't disappointed. Tempted to get another.... Would this be true stereo separation Alan? Again your spot on Alan with your review.
Because the flip tends to be rather shrill in high volumes, would not lowering the highs in the equalizer neutralize that and make it much better sounding? Did you try it to see if it would make a significant difference?
I can’t choose between the Flex and Charge 5 Can you tell me which speaker sounds fuller on very low volumes, like 10-40%? I know that Bose always has a nice bass boost at lower volumes but the Charge 5 is a bigger speaker overall
hi, thanks for your reviews, I wanted to know based on your experience which speaker you recommend with a powerful sound and with a balanced sound between mids, highs and lows. I had thought of the charge 5, but I also wanted advice for low-budget speakers.that sounds full in the mids and lows, without missing the highs. thanks if you can help me. I listen to classical pop and jazz. sorry but of a weight that does not exceed 1000g
you seem to be describing the perfect speaker but it doesn't exist at this price range and size. the charge 5, the motion plus, the motion boom and the uboom l with firmware 0.4x are the normal recommendations for that size. uboom l lacks the bass of the c5 as does the motion plus that can sound very detailed with custom eq. for a more hifi listen i like the stockwell 2 but it uses phase shift so you have to be ok with that.
Good morning Allan, I hope you didnt get too exhausted by the argue yesterday with big baby Oluv. What sounds better (generally), the flex, Charge 5 or xsoundmega. I get them all between 50 and 80€. I like bass but also good sound in general. For ahort travels and a bit at home listening. Greetings from Berlin
i would probably go with the charge 5 but flex is still a great package. Oluv shocked me just how juvenile he is and how unable he is at making a reasoned logical thought process in defence of his own comments. even for Oluv he stooped below an acceptable bar in behaviour.
@@alanrossreviews Thanks for your opinion! And about Oluv...I have always recognized him as a person that is all about his hobby but subborn and irascible. I speak german even with these minor """happenings"""" he started insulting the wind and fly's badly. So no surprise for me here. Good start in the week
I watched many reviews on youtube. Being from an engineering background i found the use of graphs the best to explain. Cannot really compare in a sound test with headphones. I am still a bit confused. Should i go for charge 5 or Soundlink Flex? Actually my most preferred speaker was Bose Revolve+ but its a bit out of budget for me. But i loved that 360 sound and i love bose sound signature. That's why i looked at tribit stormbox pro i was almost gonna buy it till i saw your review. Tribit was half the price. But the bass comparison scared me away lol. Now am confused again. Flex or Charge 5?
stockwell 2 is more hifi but look at the size of that flex, its great at what it does for its single driver and size. flex is very v shaped so bit muffled at lower volumes.

The Emberton just sounded really cheap…and not in price.
the issue for the flex is lack of mids, if you are not sensitive to that its all good
@alanrossreviews I believe it lacks low mids, where that punchy bass lives.
Listening to your demo's, The Bose came out No1, Flip 6 2nd - up to 75%.
I personally wouldn't push anything to 100%
Cheers
Great review! One of the best on youtube, thank you.

@@colemanhowell thank you 👍
I saw a lot of videos on Bluetooth speakers - particularly Bose Flex and Marshall.

Excellent review, thank you very much!
Grate to see you back. I find it funny the Charge 5 is 144 at walmart but everywhere else is 175(which is the price I paid) So I find it hard to pay 130 for the Flip 6. as far as the Bose well I might just grab it for review
its definitely one of the better portable options IFFF you like the bose signature sound. did you ever send your xtreme 3 back? 😝
But i am thinking about Sony,Diamond box,B&O,Devialet which I have a even lower chance 😅
if you dont try you wont get for sure so nothing to lose 🤞
Bose soundlink flex is the perfect travel speaker. Balanced sound and decent amount of bass for a mono speaker. The flip and charge are also good, but for outdoor use you have to be careful with the passive radiators. And with the eq you can tune them as you like. But the custom eq is not supported in stereo/party mode.
Careful with passives outdoors? 🤔
@@alanrossreviews The passive radiators. If you damaged them you're loosing of the sound.
@@alanrossreviews yeah, be careful with that passive outdoors.
@@AlexG-777 well be careful indoors to 😁
Far be it for me to pick holes in Alan's review, but from what I've read and seen on videos on the Flex, you don't need the app to connect the speaker to your media player, even the first time.
Soundlink flex MAX is on pre-order now
Hope you get to review it soon

Thanks for another great review! Can you test 2 Bogasing M4 in (TWS) mode vs JBL Charge 5.
its another for the to-do list but priority is not set to high 🤓
This or the Soundlink 2 SE? and reasons why please, Thanks!
you mean soundlink mini? its really cute but doesnt go loud enough.

Great review as always Alan. I'm curious what is the mili seconds lip sync on the soundcore motion boom. When I watch TH-cam videos and Prime movies it seems like it's really good. Thanks for your info. Ray
im getting 170ms but thats with my s10+, its very device specific but for me its not good.
@@alanrossreviews 😊 thanks
Bought a soundlink flex after watching this video 👍
how you liking it?
@@alanrossreviews I'm very impressed with it although I've never had anything like this before. I think it sounds good, and the build quality is excellent. I was cross shopping between the Sonos roam and this, but I saw this video th-cam.com/video/QU57jD-y0j0/w-d-xo.html
Where the battery standby time of the roam was only 3 days, then it goes flat and that was a deal-breaker for me.
The JBL is also good and with my ears I probably can't tell the difference but I preferred the design of this
I can`t decide between Charge 5 and Bose Flex.
I own the Flex but could return it, and I already own a bigger BT speaker, the Teufel Boomster 2017 (NG). (3.5 kg or so)
It would be really awesome if you could review the Teufel Boomster 2021, because I think it`s one of the best speakers for its size, but I don`t know how and if Teufel sends review samples.
I can`t decide between the portability of the Flex (600g) (maybe I would it bring it with me more often?) and the higher volume and stronger bass of the Charge 5 (1kg) :D (1. world problems- I know^^)
Your video is such a Great comparison!
@@elinavance3476 JBL CHARGE 5 cost 120 bucks, which makes it even better. 😁
The Flip franchise hasn't really upgraded much along the years so seems quite meh...
the flip 6 is definitely better than the 5 but that tweeter, man did they picked the cheapest one on the shelf??

Hey Alan, happy new year!
Thank you for another great speaker review😉
What do you think about the difference between the Bose Soundlink Flex and the Anker Soundcore Boost ubgraded?
I would say, in comparsion, the Bose isn't worth it's money.
on a quick listen i was preferring the bose but need to spend longer with them.
@@alanrossreviews I would say, the bass is similar impressive for the size, but for my taste the mids of the Flex are a bit to low and the highs to bright and it's also a mono speaker with no EQ. And at least the Flex is more than 3* the price of the Boost.
Hi Alan, will you be reviewing the new Bose Soundlink Max being released next week?
its not released till next month in uk
Which one do you prefer more bose flex or soundcore motion+ ? Always great reviews, thank you.
Motion plus for sheer sound
Bose n charge 5 rock it, but if bose had more boom, it would win the finals. Its the best for its size in the market imo tho.
P.S. at higher volumes (louder than Bose's 60%), the JBL takes over and delivers much better (more power, bass, room filling and the overall "sound stability")
i like both, of course tweeters are very directional, you need to sit further away so the woofer and tweeter gel. the flex is great for its size.

In low volumes.
In quality in separetion.
Bass, Bass mids, Mids, ect.

Oh I’ve been waiting for this review. Like the look of it. But hold on no in app EQ?
no eq and no springs 🤭 hows the otty working out?
@@alanrossreviews The Otty isn’t unwrapped yet, as found my base had a faulty part, so have to sort that first. It does however take up a substantial part of the lounge in its box 🤣 I’ll let you know once I open it and air it . My only critique of this speaker is that it sounds a bit muddy when there’s a lot going on in a track, like electric guitar etc.
Can you compare the Flex and the Sonos Roam ( if you still have it)
i still have the roam but hate it. i wonder if mine is even faulty given the rave reviews others give it. given that bass is a weak point of the roam and its the strong point of the flex i would expect the flex to destroy it 😁😁
yes it is what it is, a warm sounding speaker at the expense of clarity but there is enough there that it doesnt sound over veiled.

im liking it, just accept its limitations in terms of volume and clarity.
@@alanrossreviews I'm not a huge fan of it because of the way too recessed mids but hey for Bose it's pretty good.

Hi Alan , Greetings from india. I decided to purchase motion plus but my only concern is it been 5 years since it released?. Is it really worth to buy now?
@@mageshwaranannamalai4900 its kinda unique for its size and seperate tweeters but it wont give deep bass, its more for clarity. I don't really listen to it any more.
Do you still have the B&O a1 gen 2? Wondering how the Bose Flex compares to the a1. Thanks!
no sent that back. its a good question.
How does it compare to MINIRIG? They are both mono with a single driver, so it’s a fair comparison in my opinion.
havent compared yet but i would expect the minrig to outclass but in a totally different form factor.
The ch5 sounds like a combination of the flex and the flip6. Bose should have utilized a tweeter with the flex.
i guess they designed it around the size. the highs on the c5 are ok but the highs on the flip 6 are taking the piss imho 🤭
@@alanrossreviews I returned my first one and I’m thinking the second unit sounds better.
same version?
@@alanrossreviews I’m not sure. I didn’t take note of the first variant.
If the JBL Charge 5 wasn't such a big chonky boy, it could be the winner. But the Flex being so much more compact, to me makes it the winner.

You can turn off the voice prompt😒
Because the flip tends to be rather shrill in high volumes, would not lowering the highs in the equalizer neutralize that and make it much better sounding? Did you try it to see if it would make a significant difference?
sure but it depends on volume level how shrill it is and the app only allows for basic tone controls in reality.

Can you tell me which speaker sounds fuller on very low volumes,
like 10-40%? I know that Bose always has a nice bass boost at lower volumes but the Charge 5 is a bigger speaker overall
charge 5 goes deeper no matter the volume but overall bass is similar
I can't decide on what to get. My priorities are bass and clear sound. My choices are Bose flex, JBL flip 5 or JBL charge 4. Any suggestions
probably flex is best middle ground but id try and get a old denon 250bt if you can for your requirements.

as in watt hours?
hi, thanks for your reviews, I wanted to know based on your experience which speaker you recommend with a powerful sound and with a balanced sound between mids, highs and lows.
@@alanrossreviews thank you very much

Good morning Allan,
I hope you didnt get too exhausted by the argue yesterday with big baby Oluv.
Means he gets angry very fast, cant handle other opinions and starts insulting very early in a "conversation". Tonbe honest that was clear from one of the first videos when a fly passed him 3 times...or the wind blew two or three times..little things even triggered him badly. keep away from the bass heavy speakers like the flex. flip 6 would be best from these
when are you doing the soundlink max?
im not sure of anything at the moment.
Im told the stormbox pro bass issue may be fixed but cant confirm. If sound matters go c5 if size matters go flex, just my opinion 😊
Soundcore motion plus vs Bose Soundlink Flex which one would you recommend??
motion plus is different league but flex is way better for compact travel
What will be your choice according to sound quality?
