    Well done again for another great video. Years ago I used to work down in Portsmouth and we would often go mullet fishing round there but without much success. Later when I moved back to West country I refined my tackle and had some great success down at Beesands in South Devon where there was a broken raw sewer pipe where the mullet were swarming on every flush! needlas to say we saw some strange things come out but we caught good mullet and make sure we had a decent shower when we got home.

    I use a 20ft. telescopic cane pole.....works like a charm. It is beefy enough to set the hook good....and flexible enough to fight the fish on 6lb test line....and no drag to worry about! ;)

    Working on that soon, doing a Pike DVD too. We fish and film all sports of species of fish from sea, coarse, big game and trout so it can take time for us to do each species but thank you for being patient and one will be up soon

    Here in Florida, those things are fish fry gold. Love the way they taste. Nice tips, i've never caught one on a line, just cast nets. Going to try your tips..but I'll be keeping what I bring in.. not catch and release here. If i hook it, i cook it.

    Grey mullet are considered a delicacy in southern Brazil. They are quite good to eat.
    Open them up and eviscerate (you will need an axe or hammer with strong knife).
    Season with rock salt and lemon juice. Barbecue them for 40-45 mins.
    I have also read that they may be taken with the remains of a popped black balloon as bait!
    Good luck!

    Great video, may I add, if you are looking to hook some more mullet try use very light floats, very soft rods, flora carbon leader (I use anything from .8 to .12 and maybe.14
    Next trick is to scan the bottom, do this by hooking up a little weight on your hook to find out how deep it is around you. Once you have the depth make sure you get your bait no more than 5 inches of the bottom.

    I have never caught them in the dark, but you can catch them if lights are on the water. I think they stay in the same depth and do not go down deep.

    Another part is bait. Dry some bread up in the sun, throw in a few biscuits and add some water till it is hard enough to roll into little balls about the size of a tennis ball. throw that in, make sure it sinks and fish around that ball with SOFT bread.
    good catching guys

    Nice video. I catch em with a cane pole using red wigglers. When I was a kid we could catch em by the trash can full. Their are 2 ways to do it. Float fishing and bottom fishing. To bottom fish place a round weight on the end of the line of a rod and reel place 2 hooks a foot apart and afoot from the weight. Put worms on the hooks and toss the line out as far as you can. Keep the line tight and watch the tip of the pole. For float fishing just bait it and go about your business.

    I'm not sure if they have cast nets in england, but if you get your hands on one, you really want to net the mullet instead. It's a lot easier if you're doing it for food. I don't fish mullet for fun, I just do it for a free meal.

    • @TAFishing

      Joshua Couling Hi Joshua, Yes we have seen people do that in other countries across the sea. But here in England fishing for Mullet is sport fishing. Great fun on light tackle and we release our mullet as we don't eat them personally

    Love the program. I have to disagree with how mullet taste. I spearfish all along the south coast and get my fair share and like you said, when you hit them they take off like fighter jet. I must admit i would never eat a harbour mullet but the fish i get in open water taste lovely. They're even making it into fish mongers.Sorry to disagree but feel i need to stick up for the humble mullet. Once again, love the show.

    I've never caught a mullet on a like before, I always catch them in the net. On a good day ill catch around 60 to 100 mullet. I usually just use them for bait for bigger fish.

    Never caught one on rod and reel but if you know how to throw a cast net you can get some to smoke or fry and they're delicious. I've heard Quaker oats are a good Chum supposedly. Eat more mullet! SJC!

    Mullet are everywhere at the moment where are am. I spotted some coming in with the flooding tide yesterday on a walk.
    Is a float necessary? Would you able to feel the bite without one? bread on a hoo

    • @Tophiachuuu
      @Tophiachuuu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adam float is necessary for many reasons. #1 it helps the bread float as 98% of mullet especially where I am wont eat it unless it floats. #2 ive only been mullet fishing a few times and from what ive experienced you really dont feel them take the bait you'll see your float go under before you feel it so keep an eye on it constantly. enjoy! mullet fight like a shark they go hard its good fun. its a shame 99.9% of mullet taste like poo and mud

    Do mullets eat pieces of small fish scraps or are they strictly vegetarian? BTW, Graeme, I wish you would show us how to pinch the bread onto the hook since I always have trouble getting the bread to stay on the hook during the cast. The problem I have is how to get the bread to stay on the hook without balling up the bread around the hook, which the fish, especially trout, seem to dislike.

    why do you need 15lb line if you leader is going to be 6lb anyway

    • @benjay2985
      @benjay2985 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zac Johnson Because 3ft of 6lb line is stronger than the 30+ Ft of 15lb line.
      Line is not say 6lb regardless of length
      it's strength is based on a set length
      If the big mullet runs 20 meters the 15lb line will be under more strain then the 6lb leader

    • @zacjohnson8404
      @zacjohnson8404 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      interesting, I never thought of it that way.

    • @benjay2985
      @benjay2985 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's often confusing because for real sea fishing aka game fish like Snapper/moloway/smaller tuna/Barracuda
      Then you want like 50lb main line and 70-120lbs 1 meter Steel Trace for bite & snag resistance as often those fish will snag close to the hook in attempt to get free)

    • @zacjohnson8404
      @zacjohnson8404 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ben Jay
      yeh I have 10lb braid and use 10lb leader mainly but when I'm after Tailor I use a short length of 40lb on the end just for bite resistance.

    • @noobert54

      don't think I would fancy eating one from a marina as may have fuel etc in the meat.better to catch one fresh in the open sea away from any boating activity.i was also told to avoid estuary fish as they would be likely to carry farm pesticides from land drainage.

      also have to consider what they are eating...majority of mullet bottom feed unless they have another reliable food source and this is what makes them taste like crap cause they basically eat whatevers on the ground. best to just use for bait or stews

      What a marvelous fellow you are Erol. Your bragging and superiority must make you the toast of Florida.

      Try fishing for them on a light fly rod. A 12 inch mullet can go from 0-30 mph in one or two seconds. Great fun if you have the skill to keep them on the hook.

    Releasing a perfectly edible fish is the second most pathetic thing a fisherman can do, the first most pathetic thing is to promote such stupid practice.
