when I go fishing I normally use a up and over pulley rig with a lug and squad combo in the winter and even in last summer or a 2 hook clip down with half a bit of lug or maybe rag it depends what venue on top hook and a stipe of squad tip of with a half piece of lug {sorry for spelling}
Great video again Graeme, Some nice Plaice good to see they have come back in the East and you caught that elusive Flounder at last, thanks for the great tips Tony as well.
I just want to say thank you for the years of your experience I just catch my first sea bass Brighton Marina rock spinning wery light takel Thanks tu you ⛵⛵
Hi Graeme another brill' video nice to see you get a few good flatfish in daylight too! Good point that fish can be surprisingly close on occasions and the use of small hooks and baits can increase the catch tho most will keep blasting big baits toward the horizon. Please keep them coming. Regards Alan
it looks like they have migrated from south Wales burry port, pembrey to Devon where iv been fishing for years catching loads of flats now there is nothing at all here and I'm wondering if it's possible very strange really :)
fished a spot today , that nobody ever fishies it , thought it would be a flattie hot spot , and i was right , first cast some frozen lug ,and before i got my sechand rod baited and cast , bang , lovely flattie , ive hit the jack pot , then nothing the rest of the day , what do you think could of happened
My curiosity prevails and why use a unhooking Matt if you reel the fish in over the gravel? How come you never meet them at the water? Is it just incase they escape at the last minute? Just asking! Love the vids. I'm a sport angler so unhook my catch in the surf as I dont really eat fish lol. Thanks in advance
Are carp catfish and pike the only big game fish you can get from the shore in the U.K? Are there any good ocean fish you can get from the shore? Just curious.
+Vegan Faggot Carp, catfish and pike are coarse fish not game, also they are fresh water species so you won't catch them from the shore. The species you can catch from the shore in the UK depends entirely on where you are, conger to nearly 70lb have been had from a place near me but in other places you'll struggle for anything over a couple of pounds. Mullet are found pretty much everywhere and put up one hell of a fight on light gear, can be frustrating but when you do hook one its all worth it
DjDolHaus86 Dont get me as an idiot, of course carp and pike and catfish are mostly freshwater, even though I have caught catfish from salt water and carp from brackish water. I was just curious because i might visit the UK in the near future.
Didn't mean to insinuate that you're an idiot, apologies if it came off that way. I wouldn't really bother with the sea fishing in the UK if you're only over for a visit, its not that rewarding unless you go offshore, massive overfishing by commercial vessels in the past has left our waters fairly barren. You'll probably have more fun at a commercial freshwater venue or on a day ticket section of a river
You can fish for skate in Scotland and tope off the west Wales rock marks....among other things. That said you'll be hard pressed to find people willing to share or give you places to go as normally these are gaurded/secret spots to many.
TimPlaysLife You should all be using barbless hooks if not just flatten the barb. PS.no you will not lose any more fish ,we use this method salmon fishing and they fight a touch more than those farting little flattie and cod.
@@geraldswain3259shut up, we use barbed hooks for a reason. Not everyone wants to lose a fish in the surf due to a barbless hook. If you’re that bothered about a fish’s welfare, then you shouldn’t be fishing at all.
Which knot do you use for connecting the main line and the leader? Im having issues on my new rig, connecting 0.80 shockleader to a 0.25 fireline. Thing just keeps getting snagged in outer rod-eyes when casting, lost me three rigs already...
Wow, that knot is amazing, exactly what im looking for! I was using the Albright knot before ( uni to uni ), and it just didnt work out with my new rig - works a charm when connecting mono to mono though...
I have a serious problem unhooking flat fish it really bothers me that I cant unhook them properly and I'm sure most of them die when I return them.Could you do a video showing the proper way to do it.Thanks
come and try out Bournemouth pier you can catch turbot from it also the plaice ate coming out. bass are prolific. but you don't get many shore caught turbot !!
More people from here in New Zealand should fish for flaties this way, believe it or not no one does they think the only way to catch'm is at nite with a lite and spear or with a net.

It all depends on what time of year you fish, hope this helps, britishseafishing.co.uk/techniques-and-info/sea-fishing-and-seasons/

how do you go about unhooking the deeply hooked flatties?
thats something I really struggle with
try putting a piece of stiff thick mono line a couple of inches long through the eye of the hook, it will stop the hook from going to far down
TimPlaysLife You should all be using barbless hooks if not just flatten the barb.

i catch these with nets it easy if u see them burried it just to put net over them

We use the Albright special.Fore joining lines of different diameters. Its in one of our knot tying films.

More people from here in New Zealand should fish for flaties this way, believe it or not no one does they think the only way to catch'm is at nite with a lite and spear or with a net.
