Defender isn't really for everyone. There will be haters out there but if you don't like or disagree with the defender than please go buy yourself a Jeep or Land Cruiser. Everyone have their own taste and why they own that car.

its actually a perfect reflection on todays society.. people dont want to take actual responsibility for thier lives.. they would rather drive something that does it all for you smf requires no effort

I love the danger plate from a power pole on the door of the series 1. Never forget that Land Rovers helped keep the lights on around the world for over sixty years, so a nice little touch.

There's still a few Series IIIs on the road in Australia - uncle had a Series II in the late 70s - and these cars hold a great deal of affection with owners. Performance was about on par with everything else back then, but there is a certain crispness and business-like quality in the layout that I love about most British commercial vehicles I've experienced (obviously excluding all those ratchet Ford Transits I've had to endure) - it's infectious!

Why! Why! Said it isn't so Land Rover!! We need vehicles like yours, the defender is a piece of iconic machinery! Just like Jeep Wrangler is to the jeep brand! Not everyone likes girly pampered suv's!! Some of us like tough and raw machines that can handle whatever you can throw at it!! It's a sad sad time😢rip defender!

This is the most British clip I have ever seen.
    - The Queen- Check
    - A Defender- Check
    - Posh British accents- Check
    - "Countryside" - Check
I do like a good Defender video. Bring it off-road next time.

I saw and sat on a Defenfer 90 back in 2012, they sell these in the Philippines with a diesel. Too bad I couldn't afford one back then and probably won't be able to because since we moved to US its just impossible to import one let alone get the HUE166 Heritage model. My daily driver is heavy duty RAM 2500 4x4 pickup but the Land Rover Defender in its current will always be one of my favorites.

As much as I love them I'm not spending that kind of money to get an old Defender. I got another off-road icon though....a RAM Power Wagon.

Yes Japanese make them more reliable, but they lack character. But Japanese cars still go wrong and cost a fortune to repair when they do. I would have another Land Rover again for sure. So much fun and so many people stop you and talk about them. My first was. Series 2a and broke down when I got it,but it was a very simple fault and I was driving again in minutes.

Newsnight crapping on about a "1948 driving experience" and "pulling on the plus fours"; absolute sh*te. As if it is some kind of antiquated museum piece.
The Defender dates from the early 1980s it was, and still is, advanced in many respects (suspension, brakes and 4x4 system, engines and main gearboxes have been upgraded and changed over the course of it's thirtysomething year production run) and still bears comparison with the cruder but flashierJapanese style pick ups which are on sale today. Not 1948, that is the cruder "Series" Land-Rovers which are more like a descendant of the the WW2 Jeep.
Crap lazy "journalism" with zero research other than interviewing an urban style guru type and an urban hipster who happens to own a Land-Rover apparently.
Motoring and countryside matters - two things the BBC is not in touch with.

Ending the Defender instead of tweeking it further..for Gods sake how difficult is it to put two bloody air bags..abs and move drivers seat more center to steering wheel in the thing. Here in New Jersey I can not avoid seeing a Jeep in one direction or anotther every 5 minutes..what on earth are those Indians thinking discontinuing this thing.Make it basic..strong and dependable and not stupidly priced and they will sell a slew of the things over here (USA)

When I was a kid, or lets say early teen, the only 4x4 I knew were Land Rower and the famous Jeep, 50 plus year ago Land Rover was almost the only choice for people who want 4x4 or vehicle alike, people were happy, no complain or question about quality because at the time most people had no other reliable choices, now, the only word you can use to describe the Land Rover is, "peace of shit" unreliable not comparable with Japanese and American made SUV's or 4X4"s, they belongs to junkyards not the streets or freeways.
