landrover my favourite car it can go anywhere. it will be very sad to see it go to be replaced by the new one and the only ever car that I will be sad if it went completely.
i wish they would keep the production of the old Defender and then bring call the new 2016 Defender the Defender sports or something like they have done with the Range rover sports and discovery sports haha
Still the best at 60? There are probably many many people that would argue that actually ever was the best. Some love the Jeep products, some the Toyota Landcruiser, some the Mercedes G-wagen... I'm pretty sure that outside of the UK many if not most people never have considered the Land Rover to be the best. The least reliable... certainly. But the best? ;-)
morbvsclz Land rover was well know in many countries up to 50:s and even 60:s before the Japanese and mostly Toyota took over completely. After that Land Rover was seen in some Camel trophy adventure races and the G-wagen is really not very well known globally as it's mostly a military vehicle and later a very expensive SUV. It's strange that Jeep, despite being such an icon, never got passed the fame of WW2 era and never have done any marks on the global market since.
+Fast Er Without any bias, every major car maker wants to sell cars in USA. Jeeps sell very very well in that country, so there wasn't any real need to sell it anywhere else.
Land Rover didn't have great marketing for that model, people tend to forget the Defender as an option, even when it was cheaper then the Disco and often more practical.
WRONG. When the coil sprung vehicles were introduced the lineup was 90, 110 & 127. The 130 designation didn't come in until the Defender rename. Actually, the leaf sprung 88" was sold along side the new 110 for a period of time.
WHY cant the keep the defender in production.. im sure there is still a neach market for it at a price.. check out hte conversions on ebay that cost between 40-60k mark please dont stop production
Funny thing is that ive heard they arent all that reliable. Also in terms of looking at a 1980-1990s Defender, people say, better look at a Land Cruiser or Merc G.
+MS The farmers and whatnot I've spoken to say that the Defender is actually a pretty reliable vehicle, perhaps it's simply the reputation of the brand that leads some people to say otherwise. Honestly though - speaking as someone who's owned both Land Rovers and Toyota's - I believe the statements about Land Rover's reliability are exaggerated. It's true that the Japanese cars I've owned have been almost faultless, and I can see why people use them as workhorses, but (so far) my Discovery 2 has actually been a good runner. It's more demanding to run, and it certainly won't tolerate neglect like its Japanese counterparts, but I feel confident that it'll always see me through to the end, even if the door lock breaks for the umpteenth time. Personally, I much prefer driving it than the old Toyota; the latter might be more dependable, but it doesn't have the same character as the Land Rover.
It depends. The Land Cruisers are great in hot climate. They are the kings in Africa and Australia. Farmers tried them instead of Land Rover and in Europe they rust like crazy. They switched back to Land Rover. The Land Rover was build with Rover car parts and intended for normal farm work. The Land Cruiser was build for tough off road use and the parts are tougher build. That is also the reason why the Toyota parts last longer but are more expensive. So it depends, what is best for you.
Best at breaking down maybe, not much else. This is a vehicle that should have been discontinued 40 years ago when it ceased to be competitive with much more modern machinery. Sorry but mother had one and it was nothing but trouble from new until she managed to get rid of the awful remnant.
Love these outdated views of British cars and especially Land Rovers. My family has owned Defenders for years, I've owned four all from new and I've never had a problem with any of them, they've done everything I've asked of them and more. I currently have a 2015 defender and it has yet to disappoint me, don't write off something before you've given it a fair chance.
Swear something like 75%+ of all land rovers ever made are still running. I will admit my dad had a 2nd gen Range Rover ( one before P38 ) and that broke down a lot but after that they've been pretty good. P38 was a bit iffy with its electronics but mechanically it was fine then after those my dad and I when I got my Range Rover have had no problems. Odd small stuff here and there but nothing major. They've got pretty reliable now. The views on land rovers are a bit old now. They're pretty decent nowadays
Joe Pinder Ok but my mother's 90 defender was a 2005 XS, and it was a piece of shit from the get go, and once the rear diff broke or something do do with the ratio transfer box and almost killed her doing 60mph. CRAP!!!
Alexander Stefanov They were hand made. Lazy worker do mistakes from time to time. They were not unreliable in general or the SAS would not have trusted them behind enemy lines! They have used Land Rover Series up to the Defender.
No. Land Rover is an Indian company and production was already moved in parts to east europe and India. The Brexit is forcing them to move the rest too. The military‘s of the world have switched to another brand and the demand was too low. Most people are not tough enough for a real truck and they only buy suv‘s.
I think if not for the regulations the Defender could go on for years, I would still buy one!
best looking and working suv ever made. the 2015 model
Victor K its not a suv its an offroader
defender is the only car that i dont want to be replaced with a new model
jimded Well it will have to eventually, I mean nothing lasts forever, especially with cars and vehicles.
Yes , this model lasted more than many people's life..
jimded
And Land Rover has no replacement. The only acceptable new Land Rover is a Series!
i realize Im kind of off topic but does anybody know of a good website to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Walter Marcel Flixportal =)
I actually really want one in the Heritage trim model in 110!! Something about it seems just right.
Good video but I think you should have included the "old" Defender like a 90s or pre-07 one rather than jumping to the 2015
I learned to drive manual on a series 2...those ones are my favorite
Enjoyed this video very much, thank you.
Anyone notice the temperature gauge at 3:06. Might be a little hot.
The first ones are still used by the Cyprus army to carry commanders around
wonder when the first images of the new defender will be released
James Scull We'll have them as soon as they are on our website, autoexpress.co.uk!
+Auto Express For cheapness, do you think it'll be wise getting one and running it on a conversion for SVO?
Man I would love to get me some Heritage
Great vid!
Great video
Were you with the Land Rover Owners International guys?
What's is the fuel consumption for a petrol engine land rover?
landrover my favourite car it can go anywhere. it will be very sad to see it go to be replaced by the new one and the only ever car that I will be sad if it went completely.
Land Rover is the Best4x4xFar nothing in the world even competes
G-wagen
Gaming 4 Ohio the Mercedes G Class likes to have a word with you.
Are you kidding? The G-Class is trash compared to any Land Rover
Gaming 4 Ohio fuck the land rover. Germans >>>> Bristish! Nuff said! :)
+1990Thunderbolt as proven in both world wars ;)
i wish they would keep the production of the old Defender and then bring call the new 2016 Defender the Defender sports or something like they have done with the Range rover sports and discovery sports haha
great video

morbvsclz As someone neutral (from a country with no car industry) I would be torn between the Landcruiser and the G-wagen.

Eh no they have been tried and tested and used all over the world mate
Land Rover didn't have great marketing for that model, people tend to forget the Defender as an option, even when it was cheaper then the Disco and often more practical.
3:42 Dodgy rubber seal on the right front window.
that guitar noise isn't annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish these were cheap to buy in the U.S.
We have a lr defender 130 from 97 d

The 109 he was driving looked like it didn’t have an original gearbox in it!
That terrain would be more fun on 2 wheels...

I like Land Rover Defender - still the best at 60? - Auto Express
Replacement?
It's April 2018 and no sign TATA ROVER are releasing anything yet!
Shame as the defender was if nothing else - iconic.
Those dislikes are from 5th generation discovery owners who think their crap is better!
You would have more fun on that terrain with a Fat Bike!
You spelled don't wrong
i've got a 2a. Ex military. At some point someone stuck that hideous s3 plastic grille on it. Hunting a maltese cross now.
“I visited Islay in the Hebrides “with some Irish music in the background? What?
Overheating at 3:06 Typical Land Rover

G class left behind lol
Will miss the real Land Rovers! ;-(... but just for respect they should not call Defender the $$$ Indu thing!
The loss of the mighty defender, another thing to thank europe for. 💶🔫
