    This engine upgrade is insane. I have an outdoor vehicle scene. The same frame that took over a minute to render in Cycles took less than 2 seconds with Eevee next, and the quality was very similar. There are some issues I need to work out with the glass, but that could just be a materials setting.

    One thing I want to mention. If you set the "max roughness" to 1.0 then the "Fast GI Approximation" does nothing as the max roughness sets when EEVEE hands off to the secondary GI engine.

    • @MrSheduur

      so then it actually does something. it ensures that Evee uses the more accurate GI calculation at all times vs only in some cases.

    • @jushara8979

      @@MrSheduur I think you misunderstood my comment. By setting the max roughness setting to 1.0 it disables "fast GI approximation" completely, which is a different algorithm. So changing the settings of "Fast GI" doesn't have any effect on the image unless you turn "max roughness" Below 1.0 only settings in the main global illumination section will have any effect.
      Though in 4.3 there is an option to disable "Fast GI" all together.

    In archviz there is a big difference between cycles and eevee next especially with environment light.

    • @piraniarts

      There aren’t many major differences, and I suggest you try it out yourself. Many people in archviz are now using real-time engines like Unreal Engine. Eevee Next in Blender 4.2 has made significant strides, particularly in reflections and global illumination, bringing its quality closer to that of Cycles.

  • @AndrewJens

    I'm just a beginner, but I'm wondering why they didn't leave the old Eevee (as well as have Eevee Next)? Can't see how it would hurt them, and some people might have liked some effects they were getting with the old Eevee. I suppose they can run an old version of Blender if they want old Eevee? Thanks for your video.

    • @piraniarts

      You're welcome, in Blender 4.2, Eevee Next has completely replaced the old Eevee.

    • @Mettsemmel

      Of course, you can always use an older version of blender.

    • @SpencerMagnusson

      For anyone else wondering this: this question was discussed by the devs. The answer why they didn't is similar to why they deprecated the game engine: it is a lot to support, and the pressure is put on the small core dev team to keep it up. And that can keep them away from more important development elsewhere in Blender.
      The game engine is still maintained in forks of Blender, which is good enough for the community. With Eevee, the old version wasn't built to support many of the features Eevee Next has, which is why they did a complete rewrite. And as you said, for most people, just staying on Blender 4.1 is enough until Eevee Next gets polished.

    Ehhh. I'm 100% convinced Eevee can't rival with Cycles ; I'm curious to see if your tips can really work! Haven't tried it yet, but I'll come back once I have and say if you convinced skeptical me!
    EDIT: Yeah.... not impessed. The shadows still look bad. Performance is better, but it's pointless if it's not as good as Cycles. I'l lstill test it a bit more.
    2:54 : Increasing the Shadow rays made my scene glitch off. Apparently it's extremely CPU intensive.

    To make rendering in EEVEE look like/alike Cycles require more work of compositing. EEVEE Next helps this getting much closer with realtime raytracing.
    Do you know what hardware requiremnents for EEVEE Next like Graphics card, RAM and so on.

    • @piraniarts

      You can run a low spec system, such as 8gb of ram and a graphics card with 1gb of vram, but this is the minimum requirement, higher specifications will significantly improve performance.

    • @piraniarts

      Cycles and all the offline render engines are not fast in every system and even on powerful systems it will take a while to render each frame, even with optimization you can't achieve the ideal speed especially when you have hair or particles in the scene, real-time engines such as eevee next or unreal are great improvements in rendering which you can achieve the renders more closer to cycles.

    Nice video but saying you can achieve same result as cycles is just disinformation, no matter how much you try. Technical limitations make the comparison unfair, in quality, cycles always wins with a large advantage. It’s visible even in your renders. It’s more honest to say: hot to improve eevee results.

    • @piraniarts

      Thanks, but I don't notice many differences (maybe I forgot to put on my glasses :) ). There are a few small differences, but they aren't significant.
