First few sentences are gold. Real enthusiasts drive priuses because their toys always break or have horrible gas mileage. I have a 2013 and think it's the best vehicle ever. Awesome mileage and reliability and good enough power to use as a daily.

Great practical daily for sure and certainly makes sense for a real enthusiast to take advantage of one while the fun car gets parked.

I drive a 54,000 pound boom truck during the day, and then I jump into my '13 Prius for the drive home. At 72, it's my favorite car ever, and the hate some have for it makes me like it all the better, as I know I'll have the last laugh at the gas pump. It ain't that damn slow....you just have to put your foot down, ALL the way down, and it'll scoot pretty good up an on ramp.

And if you really want to get up and go, make sure you press the power button. I use it when I'm merging on to the freeway.

2011 Prius owner. Nobody lets you pass them. They could be an old minivan with a mattress & boxes on the roof, driving uphill at 45 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, and as soon as you try to pass them, they'll accelerate to 70 MPH. Benefit: Police will almost never pull you over for speeding. I've never gotten a speeding ticket in my Prius.

I just bought one a few months ago and couldn’t be happier. It’s comfortable, practical, cheap and totally care-free. I can keep the miles down on my other vehicle and save a ton money in fuel. No brainer.

I always enjoy your straightforward reviews, Kevin. I bought a 2014 Prius (5) in February to use as an inexpensive 'commuter.' I've been impressed with its nimbleness and high gas milage in city driving. It is reasonably comfortable and has sufficient interior space for my purposes. I chose the Prius 5 because of the interior upgrades, technology package, and 17" wheels...they just look better (vanity!). The Prius has earned my respect.

I was wondering the same thing why many people hate this cute car??? I just bought a 2010 Prius and see why the only issue is the acceleration but if you set it up to power mode it will perform better but other than that I think is a cute lil vehicle and to be honest im just more concern about reliability than acceleration

There is nothing wrong with this Hybrid car as it was a revolution when it was first launch and put Toyota in a different league competing others manufacturers. The trouble I see with this car is that every taxi driver driving one is driving so slowly to benefit electric drive so they hardly press on the gas and if you are driving behind one, you will get frustrated. They hardly press the gas from stop to reach 30 mph. That is the reason many drivers hate them... I think

Okay, so I drove a 2005 Prius generation 2 from 2011 ( 87k miles ) to 2016 ( 167 k miles ) and it was economical with lots of space. Then I got a 2014 Prius generation 3 with 15 k miles and they really improved the economy on it along with the electric drive mode feature. The car has 134 horses and it does have good get up and go but you need to slam the gas pedal to the medal lol. You do need those Michelin x ice winter tires, I drove it until 2021 and ended up with 111k miles, very good car when it comes to keeping cost down for insurance, maintenance and how fuel efficient it is.
I tested a Prius fourth generation and let me tell ya, the acceleration was down right scary, much slower than the generation 3. The fourth generation has only 121 horses and while they made it more fuel efficient it is painfully slow. I drove the plug in and didn’t like it either. So get a Prius generation 3, it’s by far the best of them all, just try to get a trim higher than the base 2 trim, the seats are pretty harsh, the padding doesn’t give much.
Now am driving a 2020 Mazda Cx-30 premium trim with the cylinder deactivation feature and I love this car, well rounded and fun to drive and not floaty unlike the Prius. I can take sharp corners and get oversteer ( rear steps out ) and have gotten over 400 miles per gas tank averaging 33 mpg combined!

The Prius is the best "unexciting" car out there. I used to hate on these poor cars, until I had the chance to drive one at 85mph up and down the mountains of Vermont, and I still got over 50mpg. Surprisingly stable at speed. Plenty of 3rd party battery cell replacement companies out there -- nothing to worry about there. The advantage these have over other hybrids is the gigantic hatchback opening. You can fit bikes and other clunky stuff in there easily. Backseat is bigger than most cars its size.
Toyota does seem to want to make the Prius uglier each new generation. I like the looks of the 2nd gen (they're sort of cute), but they're all pretty ugly overall. Only uglier hybrid is the Honda Insight. My god, how Honda outdid the Prius in ugliness is a real achievement. But this car is about long-term reliability, economy, and the "I'm killing the earth more slowly than you" feels. Toyota throws in the ugly for free.

@@tronimrich my '02 Es 300 vs '10 Prius. Prius wins leg room and thigh room by a healthy margin. It is kinda disappointing how at least that gen ES really isn't suited for taller ppl.

I find Hellcat drivers tend to be slopeheaded morons but hey, if it makes you feel manlier to drive a loud gas guzzling pig, then go with god. Don't like the Prius? Don't buy a Prius. See how easy it is?

Depends are you the sh!ty kind that complains about everything or are you capable of appreciating and understanding all cars from the duty that they were set to accomplish. If you're the latter then you shouldn't be regretful for being a human capable of critical thinking.

The matter of fact is there is no need to convince angry looser idiots about how good this car is! No arguments will work. And its just plainly unecessary. It is what it is. And only time will sort it all out.
