    I got one for my son's first car, safe, great mileage, no way he's racing it, at first he hated it but now he can't imagine driving a non hybrid. His friends even came around after a road trip and they all saw his car was the cheapest when they split gas. Safe to say it was a sound purchase

      i have one, its realy the most practical even now, i cant even kill it with lpg added (im taxy driver), it will last forever, but u can hang ur but on the door and u will see its not the most expensive metal used for this car, so in car accident old mercedes will smash it. Once you go Toyota, you'll never go back, and I can thank Scotty Kilmer for that. I just purchased my new-to-me 2010 Prius 4 trim, which I traded my 2000 Sienna CE for. I made a smart move because I needed a gas saver.

      @@wturner777 Drive Toyotas for more than 15 years, the last 12 years first a Prius 3 and now for 6,5 years a Prius 4, the best car in the world. Toyota is the brand I like for several reasons. Real 3,5l/100km averagely is one of them. Reliability and being troublefree are others. The design of the Prius 4 is very good because it is extravagant and futuristic more than any boring mainstream car.

      You can get reman'd blades for $25/pop. There's 28 of them on a regular Prius, last I checked. Replacing all of them yourself would net $700. If you have a multimeter & only replace the bad cells, you could be anywhere from that $700 all the way down to maybe a couple hundred bucks.

    This 2006 obviously isn’t in the rust belt, like my otherwise reliable 2004. The best mileage with mine, on a good day, gets about 44-46 mpg. Not bad, for a 20 year old car with 164k…..and with the original hybrid battery.

      Nice, this one is Maryland. I think i might just be outside the belt, but still manage to get some rust :)

    In love with my Generation 2, 2008 Prius, with 170,000 miles. It was only 25K, new in 10/2007. Its garage kept and the original battery has no signs of weakness, perhaps due less corrosion on the hybrid battery connections ? The HID headlights failed but replaced them myself without taking the bumper off and are much brighter than the originals. Ran it 90K with the energy saver Defender Michelin tires and replaced them with the regular Defender Michelin tires. Loss a few miles per gallon but handles better and a softer ride maybe due to new thread. The Prius is used for long trips only with an average mileage of 53 MPG. Short trips are by bike, feet and public transit all year. It’s a beautiful sports car Barcelona RED. Great sleeping camping car with a 6’ bed. Adding a portable inverter makes a 115 Volt generator for back up efficient home power with the on and off cycle of the engine. The Princess Prius is a tough survivor like the princess cat in the movie “The Incredible Journey”. In time, it will become a classic antique vehicle saving me more and debt free living. The beautiful large display with sharp graphics is like being in a space ship. Especially when a malfunction is coming, the instrumentation lights up including the triangle of death. It’s an adventure vehicle!

      $400 = deal of a lifetime
      expect $1500 if shop around
      can expect to spend $2000 if not diligent in your search
      $3000-3500 or more with dealer (or brand new)
      and cheap can mean shops that have only a 1 year warranty (when new guaranteed for 10 years, 150,000 miles in CA)
      $1000 or less and the battery has been lightly refurbished and will be a forever question mark

      I've never seen anyone in the forums I'm part of mention the generator failing. Only the battery after 10 years or so and the brake actuator which was recalled, then gen 3 cars tend to have head gasket problems around 200-300k miles it seems.

    • @Nathan_Jay
      @Nathan_Jay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MylesV oh yeah, factory gen3 head gaskets are two-ply and make Subaru head gaskets look good. Only reason they make it the distance is cuz you don't make shit for power. Fel-Pro head gasket fixes that.

    Battery pack $400!? WHERE?

    • @VehicleHunter
      @VehicleHunter  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I got it locally, it was refurbished and bad cells were swapped and in exchange i gave him my old battery. I found him on craigslist at the time, but plenty of FB marketplace doing the same. On this preius the batteries are becoming more scarse. So try to get one of the later prius batteries if you can so they last longer.

    If a person is looking at buying a used Prius, is there any TEST that can be performed to know if the battery is good or is failing/worn?
    Also, if the used Prius cars are so reliable, why would someone sell their used car? Can we assume that there's something WRONG if someone is selling a used Prius?

    • @VehicleHunter
      @VehicleHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      People sell their cars for many reasons. Yes, sometimes they sell them because of an underlying condition. But sometimes people want a change. Many prius owners have gone off to the Tesla full electric world. Or maybe their families got bigger and needed a bigger vehicle. If the battery is failing there is going to be a triangle with an exclamation point on the dash. But you should get dr prius app and obd2 and scan it.

    I just heard so might be wrong.
    Cant toe if break down.
    Wont run on petrol without main battery.
    10 hour labour plus very expenseive to swap hidden gen.
    4500 cost of main battery.
    Which takes 20 minutes to change.
    A real drsigner would make it 1 minute swap. Id not let such a car leave my workshop.
    Id have demoted the no go on gas only designer to floor sweeper. Or started my own factory rebuilding them correctly.
    Pitty in my many years as a mecanic toyota were reliable easy to fix.
