Very enjoyable. Seen Prius going on 300k miles, still going strong. Keep on doing these everyday cars please.

wouldn't really trust this thing in the snowy season there. I'm a born and raised New Jersean and we have some pretty foul weather. The Prius doesn't inspire much confidence in snowy conditions
@@colechapman6976 Im from the PNW, Washington specifically, and theres a running joke on the hiking forums around here when someone is trying to figure out if a forest road is washed out or someone had a hard time getting through with their truck or something like that, only to find out a Prius is parked at the trailhead.
Another great video Matt. So many “car lovers” can’t help being negative about cars like this but sometimes they are just fit for purpose. The variety you provide from Range Rover, Jaguars, Audis etc to the most common place vehicles is why I keep coming back.
I’m a “car lover” and I think the Prius is great. I’m a “food lover” and I think kale is great. I eat kale. But when I run into someone who believes kale will solve all the world’s problems and appears to have never eaten anything but kale (and maybe quinoa) and dismiss or denigrate anyone who questions their approach or even just fails to sufficiently appreciate the obvious advantages of an all-kale diet, then I become somewhat anti-kale, I’m afraid.
Hi Matt, you hit the nail on the head with regard to these cars. Have owned 3 different generations of Prius, not one has given me any mechanical or electronic problems. Just regular servicing. Here in Australia 10000km/6 monthly service intervals takes any worries away. Current gen 4 2017 model one set of tyres and a 12volt battery. 62-64 mpg and a transmission service in the next few months. Just start and go. Great channel, enjoy all the videos.
As a person who moved into this country the first thing I was recommended was "go get a Japanese car, they won't fail you" As this video shows My first car here is Toyota Corolla 2006 petrol with 115k mileage, 100% working serves me well with the AC so strong it got me cold in the heatwave days in 2021. After a bit of settling, I switched to an 89K mileage Nissan Note 2014 because of loads of option extra and cruise control needed. This little Note is just the same as what I always drive in Japan, whether in the hot weather like Okinawa, or the gigantic city in Tokyo to the snow mountain of Nagano, or in this country from London to Plymouth, and Broadstairs back to London, they were never let me down, all function with a green tick. They maybe lack of drivability to their counterpart in Europe, but the reliability of them is always trustworthy. Another great video!
Definitely smashed it with this purchase Matt especially considering it is a one-owner car. I think before tax a well-earned little profit which will defo help towards a couple of renovations in your new venture into the property market 🙏
Thats Low mileage for these. If you clean the battery filter every few months the batteries can last 300-400k and service the engine every 5k and its bulletproof

That sort of attention to detail means that he sells it and never sees the new owner again unless they want to trade it or they send a referral his way
I’ve never driven a Prius, and I don’t need to change my car, but you’ve almost sold it to me! It looks great. Perfect for someone who needs a cheap car but doesn’t get excited about torque peaks etc. Hope you get a good result!
I've got a 1.5l gen 2. Great for commuting. Automatic so not as bothered when in traffic. Reliable and 58 to 62 mpg depending on speed and temperature. It's ugly and boring, but I drive 78 miles a day to work and back.. You will get looks though. I'm 37 and people don't expect me to drive a Prius... Lol
@@osman.s1405 Do what makes you happy. If it's saving money using a relatively cheap car to buy and definitely to run, then go for it. I drive 78 miles a day to work and back and have saved so much money compared to when I had a new 2017 Qashqai (at the time) which gave me 33 mpg at best. What I save I spend on my hobbies pretty much or whatever my wife and I need.
Bullet proof cars, I owned a mk2, no problem what so ever. What I like about these videos is the pragmatic approach you must have as a trader. You need to find and stick to, the right balance between fixing up and leaving stuff as is based on the type of car, milage, price point and target group. I can imagine many part-time traders will go wrong here and don’t succeed in the end.
I travelled in a Prius taxi recently which had done about 200k miles and was very impressed with comfort and ride, Toyota have an enviable reputation for reliability, not my cup of tea as I'm a bit of an old codger and Mercedes fan, but a car enthusiast. Always enjoy your videos Matt and feel I'd be more than happy to buy a car from you, forwarded a couple recently to a friend considering an Evoque as they gave a good review of the car and the actual ownership experience for a year. Keep up the good work.
I told a taxi driver who was in a 2006 Prius that my own 2008 Prius had 210 thousand miles and he just smiled at me and said ha that’s a baby! I asked him how many miles was on his and he said 650 thousand miles, the 200 thousand miles talk is utter garbage, theses things go forever if maintained
Still driving my 2003 Prius, it is just reaching 200,000 miles and is pretty much as good for mileage as it was the day we got it. Still prefers long runs in hot weather, doesn’t like cold starts and short journeys. We’ve been expecting to need to replace it for the last couple of years, but it just keeps. on. going! Plenty of dings, knocks, scrapes and dents on the outside though.
Staggers me how these hold their value with such high mileages. I guess it’s testament to how reliable they are. If I could overcome the anxiety inducing mileage I’d drop 5k on one of these. Great video Matt keep it up!
i wouldnt pay what he listed this for on an almost 200k car, thats for any car in general, but i think the prius holds value well because its a hybrid. the earlier versions i think were the first of its kind, but in this day and age hybrids are more of a thing.
Just checked auto trader 200 to 250 k cars are going for up to 5 k . Loving the channel proper down to earth extremely knowledgeable reviews on realistically affordable cars .
Hi Matt, I recently had a courtesy car from an indy garage that does our servicing and they gave me a mk2 prius. I thought I was seeing things when I started the car, the mileage read 560k klms ...350k miles. I could not believe how well the car drove considering the mileage. The garage owner told me he runs two prius's as courtesy cars ..both ex taxis and he said they rarely miss a beat. Not a big fans of toyota's but credit were credit due these are a really well engineered cars.
Have to say Matt I found the Prius a very comfortable car....would never buy an EV but would consider a Prius when I get to the age of just A to B driving.
I bought a 2013 with 260,000 miles on it. 2 years later I drive it 10,000 miles/mo and it has 450,000 miles on it with no problems. Best 4200 dollars I ever spent.
Matt, I got a good feeling about that car when you showed us the mileage graph. At that point I wondered if it might be a one owner - and it was 👍😁. Despite it admittedly being a bit bland, it's a car that a new owner could grow to love simply because of it's fuss free, reliable and cheap running which might actually and inadvertently generate a certain loyalty towards it?
I do like these 'before & after' videos, Matt and what you decide to improve and what you don't! As such, this suggests a good amount of cheap and reasonably comfortable motoring ahead....
If I had to buy a Hybrid the only one I would buy is a Prius because it's Toyota they have got everything right and will last forever if serviced properly
Couple of my local taxi drivers run these. I always ask them about their cars and both had nothing but praise for their reliability after 200k plus miles.
When I am looking at cars and pull a dipstick I always smell the oil on the end of it. This can provide a useful insight into the history and usage of an engine or transmission.
Toyota have the VIN numbers on all the pannels and doors if you ever suspect they have been in a bump. Looks very clean. At 200k miles it's definitely got 100k more left in it. Common issues on these are the EGR valves and head gaskets. But supply and fit centers will fit replacement low milage engines for £1000 so usually the way to go if the HG ever pops. Ideal tools to do a Job.
I just want to thank you as i have watched many of your Car Reports and stuff as i was in the market to get a reliable used car. I found this extra low mileage Honda Civic and it was immaculate , the mileage niggled me as being so low and so from your always saying about Car Vertical and giving discount with your code i figured its worth me doing for peace of mind i think it was some 20 quid after your disc code.. The report was great everything checked out and the car exactly as advised. So i am glad and for 20 quid definately gived me peace of mind etc.. So Thanks again keep up the good videos you do a great job..
You really can't go wrong with these Matt ,will easily get another 100,000 miles out of this ,I had a Gr Corolla Hybrid 2 litre ,wish I'd never sold it ,traded it in for a Hyundai i30N 😮
I had an Auris hybrid as a company car and at first I thought it was boring but that's not what it's about. It's dependable and once you've settled into that not much feedback thing it was like driving around in my favourite armchair, and after a stressful day sometimes thats exactly what you need. I had another Toyota that had proper textured carpet in the headlining and headlight protectors for the headlights like another set of headlights that went over the top which was odd, these old folks homes on wheels I have a bit of a soft spot for. There's a lot to be said for just wafting along.
The Prius seems able to take intergalactic mileage in its stride so this will be good news for someone. A non-petrolhead mate of mine has an earlier version (2006), never services it unless it’s broken and yet it just keeps going. And pretty economical too 👍
I don't live in the UK but really like your channel and come back every now and then. Glad your business is doing well. I have a 3rd gen prius. For anyone who has one, make sure to replace the intake manifold and EGR valve, clean EGR cooler, and install an oil catch can, no matter the mileage; if you plan to keep it long term. No drive belts, love mine. I've lowered mine and put wheels on it. Lots of cool aftermarket parts hah
Result Matt! You can’t beat Toyota reliability. I know it’s a bit triggers broom because of the battery, but it’s still going and will be for a fair few years. I’m biased but the 10 year/100k warranty is so good and that includes track use too.
Toyota hybrids are excellent , I have a Toyota Vellfire import hybrid with E4 and it’s awesome. Hybrids have less wear and tear on the engine and brakes so they age better than non hybrids.
Hi Matt, perhaps velcro hasn't made it all the way up north but no taxi driver I know uses screws to secure their taxi plates these days.oh and if you read this please more on suitable cars that can be used as taxis. cheers love your posts!
I would have thought this would be a great car to have for sale in the UK with fuel prices going through the roof. The new battery alone would settle some of the fears when buying a 200,000 mile hybrid. Good luck.
Sounds like you had a bit of luck with this one! The work needed was only service items so not too bad. As a petrol head I'm not a fan and couldn't see myself buying one, but for someone who isn't that bothered about cars and just wants a cheap form of transport a Prius would be well worth considering.
Actually the eCVT, not CVT, does not make a horrible noise because you can`t hear that. It`s different than the classic CVT. Only the engine you can hear. So yeah.
I had one of these in exactly the same colour and year, although mine was the T spirit model with sat nav and self parking and reverse camera etc. Fantastic car and hardly cost me anything at all to maintain other than usual services. I stupidly part exchanged it for a Ford Kuga as I wanted a bigger car for myself and the family...it's not been a bad car at all, but the running costs and build quality of the Prius was sorely missed....along with the keyless entry 😉
A lot of taxis don’t require a front mounted plate anymore, mine has to have one stuck up on the inside of the wind screen, and I bracket for the rear plate to be connected to the licence plate mount. This means we don’t have to make any holes or anything to affix our plates :) just an FYI for you bud love to videos 👍
Retired Toyota master technician. I assure you the e-cvt, doesn't have a filter. It uses WS fluid, which is quite expensive but it's capacity isn't very much.
What is your recommendation about replacing the fluid? I have a 2010 with 252,000 miles and it's never been changed. My mechanic said he didn't recommend it when I had it in his shop and suggested he do it back at around 200K. The car runs fine.
My 2014 Prius is at 221,000 Miles still running great and smooth. Still same Battery I've had no issues with it. I plan on driving it until it dies or battery dies

Matt this car is from hills of Woodford Toyota Near East London, there you don’t have separate licence plates for taxis, normally hills Toyota Lexus cars are local, so if this was used as a min cab it wouldn’t have separate plates as TFL ones don’t have that fyi.
Hi Matt, don't mind me with another mainland EU price update. Your videos get me excited about the cars that you show. A similar Prius goes for between 8 and 12k here. Suddenly I'm less excited. UK 2nd hand car prices are quite insane. Actually, I should say they are fair for a car of this age and mileage. I should say 2nd hand car prices in mainland Europe are quite insane.
New hybrid battery, now that makes sense. Nearly 200,000 miles on the factory original battery made me think something wasn't right. Seriously considered getting one of these, but my best friend who is rabidly into EVs told me to stay away. Too sluggish in terms of acceleration.
Imo the acceleration is fine. Where you might consider something else is if you are driving up a lot of hills or mountains, or are constantly needing to floor it onto a highway (but who needs to?) I'm not sure why so many people think they neeeeed the acceleration unless they are into sporty driving. Proper regular driving doesn't need high acceleration
The reason I recently bought a Lexus GS is because I didn’t want a diesel but wanted good mileage and powerful enough for frequent motorway driving.. it was a short list that ticked all those boxes. I’ve completely adapted to the CVT, car reviewers really go overboard about them.
2 years ago you could pick them up with 80,000 miles for under 4k. i understand the market has inflated but didn't realize how much.. reliable and fuel efficient seems to make it a popular choice..
Any car can be reliable or unreliable, just need to be unlucky like me when owning a auris hybrid, a repair bill to get it past its mot would of cost in excess of £3k with main dealer being only garage who would touch it due to being a hybrid.

Great video. Our daily driver is a 210 bhp 330ibft diesel Lexus IS, but sometimes I prefer to take the Auris hybrid and chill, try to keep the power needle in Economy zone, see how long I can keep it in EV mode before the engine comes on. Better economy than the Lexus.

Wow, the 2nd hand price of a Prius must have shot up since 2019 when I sold my 2009 Prius T3 with 145k miles on the clock. It had needed an EGR clean as these clog up and cause the engine to run poorly. Good luck with the sale, I certainly wouldn't go shopping for a 200k mile car!
I've just sent my 2021 Toyota Corolla company car back and I think it's the only company car I've had that hasn't needed any warranty work in the first 12-18months
In the United States these are EVERYWHERE! They usually have a rear screen that is covered with stickers advertising the owners love of the environment and how everyone should spay or neuter their pets. They are usually driven 10 mph below the speed limit in the fast lane on highways and away from traffic lights like there's a rotten egg under the accelerator so the driver can ooze forward on electric power and not activate the gas engine for as long as possible.

As a person who moved into this country the first thing I was recommended was "go get a Japanese car, they won't fail you" As this video shows
My first car here is Toyota Corolla 2006 petrol with 115k mileage, 100% working serves me well with the AC so strong it got me cold in the heatwave days in 2021.
If you clean the battery filter every few months the batteries can last 300-400k and service the engine every 5k and its bulletproof
engine service every 5k sounds a bit often for my taste, really.
Hi, wheres the battery filter? Just got one recently. Is it the vents near the rear seats.
@@hughlevantjames905 every 6-7k is also fine
@@VfxRaptAnime on the Mk3 prius its behind the seats on the right side. There’s plenty of videos that show the whole process. Search toyota prius battery filter clean
I’ve seen them on 350k odd miles and of course you pretty don’t see them used by anyone but taxi drivers
You really care for the cars you sell, thats what makes you stand out from other traders/dealers. For example, you give the cars a gearbox service! I wouldn't think twice buying a car from you. Good man
That sort of attention to detail means that he sells it and never sees the new owner again unless they want to trade it or they send a referral his way
This is one of those cars that's tempting to just keep kicking about. It's cheap enough not to really worry about, it'll always run and is zero fuss.
I’ve never driven a Prius, and I don’t need to change my car, but you’ve almost sold it to me! It looks great. Perfect for someone who needs a cheap car but doesn’t get excited about torque peaks etc. Hope you get a good result!
Prius is a very good car owned both great driver even if you are a car person.
I've got the same car, the same year. It's done 360,000 still going strong!
Lol
@@UnseenSpirit im 22 and considering getting a prius
@@osman.s1405 Do what makes you happy. If it's saving money using a relatively cheap car to buy and definitely to run, then go for it.
I drive 78 miles a day to work and back and have saved so much money compared to when I had a new 2017 Qashqai (at the time) which gave me 33 mpg at best.
What I save I spend on my hobbies pretty much or whatever my wife and I need.
With a main dealer fsh, replacement battery and suspension, that’s great value. It’s not like the engine is going to give you any issues. Nice car 😊
Totally agree
the Atkins cycle engines are known to burn oil like 1l per 1k miles. I know from experience.
Cat converter theft would put me off
They suffer from head gasket issues
You’ve just jinxed the engine now. Well done, it’s now destined to explode.🤦🏻
Some dodgy scams sound like your reply from 'Hitme up on telegram', be very careful. High peak auto hasn't mentioned anything about a prize draw,.
As usual a brilliant video on a hybrid car . You are the best car detective out there could watch you all day 😊
I told a taxi driver who was in a 2006 Prius that my own 2008 Prius had 210 thousand miles and he just smiled at me and said ha that’s a baby!
You're spot on about hybrids , especially tried and tested Toyotas.

What a gem 💎 of a car, what a fantastic daily driver!
Great video. Toyota and lexus are the best at building hybrid cars and the prius is legendary for going on forever.
Hi, Matt! Our Mk IV Fiesta has done nearly 300K and STILL drives beautifully! (Never was a taxi, I grant you!)
Impressive
A pretty good endorsement of Toyota's hybrid system! Another great video Matt!)

Your knowledge and honesty is absolutely amazing. Hands down best part of the shows USP. Thank you Sir!

Completely agree on this one. This is basically the ultimate ‘tool’ car. I really don’t mind it. Hybrid as you say can be best of both worlds
Couple of my local taxi drivers run these. I always ask them about their cars and both had nothing but praise for their reliability after 200k plus miles.
End result was great Matt. Well done for the work you did. Hope you get 5k for it
When I am looking at cars and pull a dipstick I always smell the oil on the end of it.
Its definitely worth doing one before buying a car
I’d never have considered a Prius before but I would now. Great to see before and after and there is definitely plenty of life left in it yet. 👍🏻

You really can't go wrong with these Matt ,will easily get another 100,000 miles out of this ,I had a Gr Corolla Hybrid 2 litre ,wish I'd never sold it ,traded it in for a Hyundai i30N 😮

I really quite fancy a GR Corolla. Saw one recently in white with black roof and thought it really looked the business.
I’m biased but the 10 year/100k warranty is so good and that includes track use too.
not all Toyota's are reliable. this one seems a good one though
So yeah.
Interesting video. Good to learn a bit about the Prius and hybrids in general. Glad that you will likely make a profit on this one!
I had an Auris Hybrid a a company car, did 51MPG all day no matter how you drove it! saved me a fortune on fuel!
Love these vids and thanks Matt for keeping me company at the driving test centre when waiting for my pupils out on driving test 🙂🚗.

Excellent car with a long life ahead of it. Some nice work done on it and it looks twice as good.

Matt this car is from hills of Woodford Toyota Near East London, there you don’t have separate licence plates for taxis, normally hills Toyota Lexus cars are local, so if this was used as a min cab it wouldn’t have separate plates as TFL ones don’t have that fyi.
Great car, I'd love to drive one of those. As much as I love cars, for everyday life you just need a car that does the job and nothing more.
That’s right. It would do me
Hi Matt, don't mind me with another mainland EU price update.

Too sluggish in terms of acceleration.
theres half million mile prius taxis on original hv battery
Imo the acceleration is fine. Where you might consider something else is if you are driving up a lot of hills or mountains, or are constantly needing to floor it onto a highway (but who needs to?)
I'm not sure why so many people think they neeeeed the acceleration unless they are into sporty driving.

Sounds really good...noted for a potential replacement car
