  • Ken Ham and his team have a bi-weekly "news" show, reacting to the news stories of the day from a Christian young-earth creation perspective from the Answers in Genesis staff at his Creation Museum.
    We join Dr. Georgia Purdom, Roger Patterson, and Bodie Hodge as they discuss Canada's reaction to Ken Ham's upcoming keynote speech at an Alberta homeschooling conference, and more on the November 9 and 16 episodes of Answers News from the Creation Museum.

    In my opinion, homeschooling should never be an option. Schools are much more than just educations of facts, it's also an education of life. Children are exposed the first time to life at schools, with all the good and the bad. Keeping children at homes deprives them of an education of what life is really is outside the safe-space of the home. It doesn't really matter if you keep your children at home to indoctrinate them or you other reasons. If your top priority is your kid's education, you should let them go to public schools in any case.

    Dear AiG some better examples of respected scientists who are/were devout Christians:
    Francis Collins head of the human genome project, head of the NIH, evangelical Christian.... But oh wait he's an outspoken supporter of evolution
    Oh I know Monseignor Lamaitre: Astrophyisicst Catholic priest, Jesuit.... Oh right he proposed the Big Bang
    Pope Francis is a pretty decent chemist but right he's pro evolution too....
    Gee it's almost like good scientists who are Christians support actual science

    I'd suspect that most people can point to a crap teacher they had at some point in their school life. The trouble with home schooling is that you might be stuck with a crap teacher for the whole of your education. If all home-schoolers were as competent as Mr & Mrs Rhino, kids would be fine. However, if all you're going to learn is what little a religious lunatic can tell you, you're probably going to have limited options when your education ends, so you're either going to get stuck, or have to spend time trying to re-educate yourself out of childhood indoctrination. Given how badly a lot of religious folk seem to manage with basic academic standards, I would doubt many succeed in that.

    Evolution isn't the type of science that produces useful technologies ? Not only it predicted there was a fundamental hereditary brick of life (DNA) but the principle of selective pressure to ensure a population express a given gene is regularly used in cancer research (and cellular biology in greneral). You'd think a PhD biologist within their ranks could have informed them about that ...

    We chose to educate your children at home with the help of a public charter school for several years. One of my main concerns was other people having a big influence on my children. We live in a town full of creationists, and I didn't want my children surrounded by them for 35 hours a week. I had other concerns too, mainly that I didn't like the school in our area.

      Being raised in the bible belt and constantly bullied for religious crap, I was desperate to be homeschooled. I even made a curriculum for my parents before I got into middle school - I checked out library books about it and put together one of the harder ones it recommended. I am still bitter that they refused and left me to not only receive a lesser education (I was never intellectually challenged until college!) but to mentally suffer with religious bigots.

    the problem here is that Ham wants to teach his 'creationism' just like religion (I have a book etc.) but within the confines of the science class. Given he has no science behind his claims at all, this is unreasonable. What Ham is good at is business and making money - mostly from gullible Christians - and not actual learning.
    So I reckon, given his wealth and that of his so-called charities he ought to be called on to research the actual science and publish in Nature his rebuttal of evolution. Until he does its just religion that he spouts.

    It's awesome you're standing up for good science education. Ken Ham accuses "secularists" of indoctrinating kids but that's exactly what he does. Kids should learn real science in school whether at home or in a classroom. Parents have the right to raise their children in their religion but I don't think they should have the right to keep genuine science from them or teach it in a way that's distorted so they reject it.

    Ham is desperate to pretend there is "no meaning to life" without his imaginary friend. It's been part of his shtick for years. It's probably a window into how fragile his ego is... I doubt he could cope without the idea of his imaginary friend, because without that the only "meaning" his life has is as a "professional" liar and sophist.

      Nah, Ken's not that stupid. He knows the real meaning of being a creationist is to make a ton of money off of suckers. I'm think he knows he's a fraud, but the rewards here and now are just to great to stop. Isn't that a sin?

    • @DJW1959Aus
      @DJW1959Aus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But Ken *is* a professional liar and sophist. It is the *sin* of lying for god. God does not need anyone to lie for god, but Ken does as does many who say they know god. It is very obvious that none know god at all, if they did there would not be over 10,000 different religions all with internal strife.

  • @byebry
    @byebry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Well, as an Albertan, I'm shocked to find out there are no mandatory standards. I've known a couple of homeschooling families, but they were engineers doing it to give their kids an academic advantage, not to facilitate indoctrination. They followed the regular provincial curriculum (voluntarily, apparently).
    I don't have kids myself, but I'll happily contribute in whatever way I can to see that home schooling gets some minimum standards in place.
    Our last civic election in Calgary, I voted for a school board rep (which I don't normally do, since I'm not a parent) - I had to this time because the opposition wanted to see that parents had more say over the science curriculum. To me, that sounded like code for "teach the controversy". Thankfully, they were not elected...

      Or is it just that Gods of Thunder Thor and Zeus are more up in modern culture than JUPITER so most listeners would get confused and asked ...why is he talking about a planet ?

    • @robertrichardson2120
      @robertrichardson2120 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What do you mean, "you folk"? One guy mistakenly uses the more common name of the same god (Zeus) even when referring to Jupiter by his original name in the Greek pantheon, and it's "you folk don't know old gods either"? What the fuck, man? Even if Paul knew nothing about Roman or Greek mythology, he's certainly well-versed in Christian mythology, having BEEN A CHRISTIAN. Since he was not ever an adherent to any other religion, his gaps or errors in knowledge about those religions does not indicate that he is unfamiliar with his own religion's teachings. Are all of "you folk" on the theist side so bad at logic?
      [Edited for syntax so the second sentence reads more smoothly.]

    • @jtveg
      @jtveg 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pete Lind
      Us folk and I would say all folk don't know *any* Gods, simply because they are all myths created in the imaginations of men.
      If you mean concepts of Gods then whether Paul called him Thor Zeus or Jupiter is irrelevant because it was only a technical mistake.
      Why do we and Wikipedia now consider all these Gods as myths? For the simple reason that no one takes them seriously anymore. When that happens to YEHWEH he too will be officially described as mythology.
      Basically the truth of any God concept relies on him having believers. Lol.

      I have been debating creationists, flat earthers, and other forms of pseudoscience for nearly twenty years now. Many times in the same groups as Bill Ludlow for a long time now. It was a pleasure to see him on your show. Though I am an atheist and always have been, I have never been inherently opposed to religion in general as long as people use it as a productive, comforting, or inspirational source. I have listened to quite a few critics of creationism and just wanted to thank you for your direct, informative, and respectful handling of addressing false claims rather than directly attacking religion itself. Thank you for all you do. I hope to follow in your example when I have a bit more free time and when I am done with my degree.

    This subject legitimately gives me some form of rage induced allergic reaction. I can't stand the idea that these people speak out of their mouth such heinous hypocrisy. They claim to want to give children an honest assessment of facts and let them work out which is true. It's real easy to poison minds to your side when you paint a farce out of the other side, while constantly and repeatedly expounding the non-existent virtues of your own side.
    I have put off having children (if I even can) for years specifically because I keep hoping to find some way to have properly educated children. The problem is, I have never found any scenario where my children won't be thrown see form of dogmatic mantra at some point in their education like I was that won't result in them having to undo their education like I had to. It's infuriating!

Fortunately everything I consider critical to her education I teach her at home. Life Purpose
    If Yahweh gives your life meaning, what is it? Christians are so arrogant, they think they can read the mind of god and discover why he created the universe. I don’t recall reading in the bible "The purpose of your life is X". Let’s say you think the meaning is something like "Spreading Christianity. Raising money for the church. Saving souls from Satan". What if that life purpose leaves you cold?
    If you were an atheist, you could choose your own purpose. You might decide it was ending hunger, protecting the environment, promoting social justice… If you got bored with it, you could adopt another.
    Let's say you discovered Yahweh's purpose for creating the universe. This is not necessarily a reasonable purpose of the universe for a rabbit or a human. They need a purpose more appropriate to their limited powers.

    I personally find it disturbing that schools in general give you a career path way too early on what they should do........they shouldn't even have that. I could have used that and I'm stuck in that unfulfilling job that Viced Rhino is talking about.

Which one of those will teach the child the proper way to think, and reason out what to do in the future? Critical thinking is what we need, not blind obedience.
    If you do not understand it, you can't teach it (no matter how often you may try).
