      Paulogia Firstly, I love you're content. Secondly, the creation museum made me doubt my faith and your videos made me evaluate myself honestly with the help of a pause button on the mountain of "evidence" so often used. Finally, what i think they were referencing the "rule" at 19:52 is the theory that gas giant planets form further out from their star. At the museum "hot Jupiters" were used as evidence for a young universe. There are some studies that have been done but from what i know its still a bit of a mystery. But still one logic can solve. Thanks again!! Keep up the good work.

      I know that this is late, and you probably won't see it, but I have an issue with the "If I don't listen to them, how can I expect them to listen to me." Statement when it relates to a walkout such as what happened at that graduation. First, we don't "have" to listen to someone if we know what they're going to say. If a homophobe is to give a speech espousing his homophobia, why are we required to listen? Secondly, that walkout wasn't because they were refusing to "hear" Pence, it was because they wanted HIM to hear THEM. It was *their* statement. We are not required to accommodate every idiot who has something to say, whether hearing it would have any value or not.

      The Bible does actually provide instructions for how to perform an abortion. The crime of miscarriage was probably seen as a property crime. much like adultery and coveting your neighborhoods "stuff". as for swearing. The Bible says not to take the lords name in vain (?). Thats about the closet thing.

      Its one of the factors which really drew me away from religion. Bigotry, racism, sexism, sure, those might not be great, but a swear word? Worst thing ever.
      Which is going to do more harm, a four letter word, or a slur designed to attack a marginalized group? Or even worse, an action against a marginalized group. I think any reasonable person would say that a phrase targeting a specific person intended to do harm is worse. My religious community didn't have many reasonable people.

      "Ham and eggs" - It's an old, old song. My sister and I used to sing it back in the late 1940s or early 1950s, but I think it was old even then.

    Whenever you ask them to define "transitional", "kind", or "information", then you're asking them to do something they physically can't do. They also can't admit that we've seen examples of any of these despite the definition.

      Phew! I'm glad I am not the only one. It's nice that you have guests, Paul, but don't give them all of your platform as you just sit there and blink your cartoon eyes :) You just chip in now and again when, in reality, we come to your channel to hear you. Have them say their piece then slide their cartoon selves back off the screen - or sit there quietly blinking their cartoon eyes while you present the episode.
      All in all, great work, Paul. I love your channel.

      ThatClassic70sGirl: nope. swear words are just words. They give emphasis to what is being said. At times, the only word that can truly convey what a person is feeling in the moment, is fuck. While Paul is right, that swear words is off-putting to christians, it does not mean they are bad or convey anything that you said. It has been found intelligent people swear, which would explain the gullibility of christians who don't.

    Paulogia, since you asked, I agree with the students who walked out on Pence. He can get his message out to the world easily an interview with the press. The students brought attention to the fact that people oppose what he stands for. Pence wanted everyone to stay so he could pretend everything is OK

      My Daily Kitchen - Light years can really refer to both. It’s kinda like how if you say you need to go to City X and it’s 800 miles away, your audience will understand if you’re driving, it’ll take a full day to reach your destination.
      When it comes to stars and light years, the stars we can see in the night sky don’t jive with a young earth creationist viewpoint. If the star is millions of light years away, then light from that star would take millions of years to get here. So if all of existence is only 6,000 years old, how can we see the star? It shouldn’t be visible for another million years, at least.

      I believed that my Dad, a Texan farmhand turned train loader, never swore, until at age 12 I got to go on a fishing trip with him and his best friend. At my age of 67 I learned (from his sister) that while I knew he drank beer on weekends and booze only on New Years, that he drank like a fish before he got married at 30; I never had a clue. I do know that no one ever had a better Dad.

      Same here, you and PZ Meyers are a few that don't swear. For the others that is part of their personality and they get the point across just as well, but I like to listen to videos where there is no swearing, I am not married and have no children but was raised where cursing didn't happen much.

    When I first saw that Kraft commercial on TV... I laughed so incredibly hard... then told my family we are ONLY buying Kraft Mac/Cheeze from this point forward... finally a commercial that tells it like it is. That took some stones to air, and I'll support that anytime !

      I’m glad someone else caught this and asked. I was dying of curiosity myself. I’m still curious why Paul hasn’t insisted on both sides being presented to the kids. At least we know that if he’s homeschooling them, they’ll get s real science education and learn how to ask questions.

    Ham drives me up the wall! This one was perfect Paul, "he's just waiting for his turn to talk" - Yes! And how can you debate such a man? And therefore how can you RESPECT a man who is so arrogant that he shuts down during the opposing side, to formulate how he'll say his next bit?
    And it's just like you said: what he's so sure about is the stuff he picked up in 1950s textbooks which fit his stories lolol.

    Your story about that one time you swore at work is so true. I also grew up Christian, and I almost never swear. Well, not out loud anyways. It think there was only one time in my life that someone has actually heard me swear outside of a few instances of me quoting something that happened to include one. I was at work, doing repairs on some equipment when a bolt that I was trying to remove snapped off completely, causing me to fall forwards because of the amount of force I was putting onto the wrench that no longer had any resistance against it. I bruised my knuckles, skinned a good portion of my arm, and let out a singe F-word. It wasn't too serious, mostly just a combination of surprise and unexpected pain, but several of my very swear-happy coworkers come running right away because "if HE swore it must be bad!" I didn't hear the end of that for months.

    Elephants are land creatures but I heard that recently the Sri Lankan Navy rescued an elephant that was about 10 kilometres out at sea. It was swimming and was swept away from the coast. I am sure that the odd dinosaur was swept out to sea and those nice people from the Sri Lankan Nave were not there to tow it to land.

    I seen nothing wrong with deciding to hear someone out OR deciding to walk away from someone who you want to make it clear you oppose. He has a right to speak (provided wherever is willing to let him be there and do so, not every single place on the planet is inherently granted to everyone, and not inviting or even canceling a speech isn't actually silencing people in reality), but there is no inherent right to a particular audience. And absolutely his views on the particular topic are already known, have already been heard and discussed, and are worth opposing.     The problem with the Tower of Babel isn't so much archaeological but theological.
    The story contradicts God's attributes of being all knowing, present everywhere and all powerful. It only serves as a story of how different languages appeared and needn't be in the Bible at all.

      Early book old testament never says he's a single god. In the very beginning he says let us make man like us. Who's the us? In the ten commandments, it's have no other gods above me. Why specify that if there are no other gods? Even in the tower of Babel story, he says let us go down. Again, who is the us?

      My Daily Kitchen - I’ve heard somewhere that originally, way back in history, Jews were polytheistic and believed in a goddess in addition to their god. I’ve honestly never looked it up and checked the veracity of the information, but it fits well enough with the odd grammar in the very early Old Testament that I’m betting some small sliver of that claim is rooted in truth.

    Goofnuggets! :D About swearing, It felt awkward saying it and I started late. When I do, it's something really hefty happening. I do use religious words for surprised exclamations (oh my god etc). In my language centered upbringing, swearwords were seen as a lack of other words (when you don't know what to say you swear). Their "free will" isn't others free will, only if they choose the same as they do! Science fiction = the Bible.

I wish Godless Engineer would be less purposefully crass to shock people and quit CONSTANTLY using bad language Once in awhile is Ok. I can't share his videos with anyone. I sometimes get sick of it and skip watching GE's videos. It is distracting from the message he intends to impart.

    Hearing dissenting voices is important. That's why I borrowed "A Case for the Existence of God" by Dean L. Overman from my public library. As an atheist, I should listen to the other side, even though I doubt there will be one new idea that hasn't been debunked I'll read it.

    I personally avoid swearing because I think it's low class, but I'm really tired of my fellow Christians acting like swearing is worse than anything else, particularly in media. The Madea movies Tyler Perry makes are full of thinly (if at all) veiled references to sex (oral sex in particular), prostitution, and abuse of women and children, all of which are played for laughs. And yet there are multiple people who think it's fine for kids because there's no swearing.

    IMO, there is one context where court-forced abortion should be possible: when a woman rapes a man, especially when it's compounded as a woman raping an underage boy. Seriously, a rape victim should not be required to have no legally enforced voice whatsoever regarding their becoming a biological father against their will.

    The kind of legislation some Christians are concerned about is that Christian doctors will be required to perform abortions and Christian companies will be required to pay for them for their employees. Those are, I think, legitimate things to be concerned about.

    I am not a big fan of swearing myself, and I do not swear, although what is considered a swear changes over time and likely some of the words I say might have been considered a swear at one time. I do accept and understand the use of swearing in society, but I personally don’t find the need or desire to swear.

    The thing is what is and isn't profanity is constantly changing. Words that were once deeply offensive are now pedestrian. Even from culture to culture within the same language group it can vary widely (ask someone British about the coloqual term for ciggaarettes for example)

    I grew up in family that rarely, rarely swore. Thwy were nominal catholics and never went to mass or prayed. Nevertheless they were extremely honest and moral persons with a great sense of empathy and respect for the poor. From them i learned to adress adults with "usted" the firmal instead of "tú." And never swear. But growing up and working i picked up the custom of saying a few swear words. Never the "f" word. P
    . And that is what i practice. When i hear a swear the "f" word I feel uncomfortable. Now after being around people who practice other styles of communicatuon

    Georgia conflated birth control with abortion and the morning after pill, because Hobby Lobby won a SCOTUS case which ignored corporate law to find that Hobby Lobby did not have to follow a generally applicable law requiring businesses to provide contraceptive coverage. So, to make Hobby Lobby’s refusal to provide such coverage appear more reasonable to a largely evangelical/ fundamentalist audience she framed birth control coverage in terms of abortion.

    There are a couple of misses in this episode: with the right argument the rest does not gives itself. That is obvious in too many cases - as in your own struggle with the Christians, Paul.
    And I'm not happy to contradict you regarding ideas and science: because AiG actually has a legitimate point here about the science fiction in science:
    Even historians, politicians and scientists - however driven by reason and pursue for truth by research and evidence, are in much too many cases subjects to wishful thinking and a compelling narrative.
    In watching the Stephen Hawking documentary Master of the Universe about his life and his Theory of Everything (these titles alone!), with participation by himself, it is painfully obvious how speculative his scientific approach is.
    He wanted and fought for having an 'answer to everything' before he died. Not exactly a humble scientist. He is so close the documentary emphasizes, on the brink of understanding the Big Bang ect. it is actually painful to watch the vanity and scientific megalomania in many popular documentaries of that kind. And they speak to a popular belief, a new religion, pseudo-science based.
    Try and count the number of times Hawking and the voiceover say, 'in the future we will...', 'science is just about to...', 'having faith in', 'hoping to', 'very soon'. When one theory didn't fit, they invented a new...to make it fit. That's mythology, too.

    Playing devil's advocate, God SPOKE the universe into being, then gave His authority to us. Speech is the only thing we have different from every other form of creation, so we have to be careful about what we say. "It's what comes out of a man's mouth which condemns him, not that which enters" or something like that. I have no idea the chapter/verse because I don't care that much about memorizing bullshit, but I can remember what it says pretty good. That being said, I cuss like a sailor, so I'm grateful for the rich history of Christianity in our culture. It's given me ALL the best swears!

    Damn I eel badly for the offspring the happy couple who have never said a bad word while their kids were around. Georgia has that droopy, hound dog look about 25 years early. Her brilliant husband has a bad case of the premature balding. Georgia picked one gruesome looking father, the kids are filled with ugly genes.
    Speaking of fossils, I would love to check out Ash Fall in Nebraska in addition to Alberta's fossil beds. Utah has great Trilobite beds and not far away in the corner of Wyoming you have some great places to look for fish fossils I love love to go fossil hunting with a group.
    -Abortion- Interesting since God is responsible for more abortions than any one human. Clearly all the fetus's growing in their mom's bellies died during the mythical flood. That wasn't good enough he murdered all the perfectly innocent toddlers and young children.

    When I was a kid, I asked one of my good Christian friends why he doesn't swear, as there was nothing in the Bible saying not to. The answer he gave me was, I forget the book or verse, but it said something about the disciples, or apostles, or something being beyond reproach.

    Protest, in this pence instance, is their only access to a competing platform. To say "Oh you're weak because you won't hear what he says" is disingenuous, at best. Pence is a public official who has made known his views and opinions through both words, and actions, as a government official. One does not need to consume the content of this individual bit of speech in order to understand his positions, and argument. The school was not going to set up another podium and allow them to voice their dissent and contest his claims while he was speaking, there was no opportunity for debate or the free exchange of ideals. Since they had no other avenue to challenge his speech, they used their right to protest in order to create a platform that allows them to express their opposition to his positions and claims. It's not like he's some nobody who was given an opportunity and others were allowed to challenge him, he is a famous individual who was given an unchallenged platform from which to proselytize for his views, their only option to challenge his speech was to engage in peaceful protest. This isn't even fucking hard, this is goddamn basic bullshit that if motherfuckers bothered to quit being little pansy bitches about it and pissing their panties over, then they'd fucking realize this is fucking stupid to get butthurt about.
    School gave him a platform and denied the students the opportunity to respond, so, they used their right to free speech to create their own platform and establish the popularity of their position among their demographic. There is nothing even remotely wrong about this. Fucking whiny cuckservative betas gotta fucking cry about the dumbest fucking shit. "They disrespected the vice president! Ohhhhh, my butt!" Bitch, shut the fuck up and check your own fucking side, y'all motherfuckers literally hung and burned effigies of the fucking president, and accused the vice president of being a sexual predator, so maybe shut the fuck up about some students WALKING OUT of a speech. Yup, that's sure equivalent to suggestion of criminal behavior.

    On the topic of cursing, I understand you are argument and agree with it in a sense. However, as it applies to children, I encourage people to check out "Two Guys On Your Head" (if you haven't already), and listen to what they said about why swearing is bad. I won't pretend to remember all of it, but it changed my opinion about why children shouldn't swear.
    As a side note I do unintentionally swear in front of my child from time to time
