So I have this Monitor. Just bought it. I was playing around with software for this monitor and I saw the resolution for 2160p and I laughed thinking it cannot do that, but it is displaying video in 2160p 60Hz. I checked the resolution in windows and it says it is in 2160p, I changed the video to 2160p here on youtube and it switched over no issues. I thought this monitor is only 1440p. Is it a trick by MSI to improve or look like 4k but it actually be running in 1440p? I contacted MSI about this. 2 technical support reps confirmed that this monitor is capable of running at 2160p but only at 60Hz. It is branded at a 1440p monitor because they were trying to sell it that way to because it runs best at 165Hz at 1440p which is where people want more higher framerates. It does and will run at 4k ( 2160p ) at 60Hz Natively.
So the monitor itself is not a native 4K monitor....but it can read 4K signals from your source. This is really intended for console gaming or similar use types. For example it will run the PS5 and XSX in 4K 60hz, but it is downscaling the resolution on the display. The reverse of this technology is used often in displays, but with the emergence of 4K gaming the downscaling has been important to be able to unlock certain features within games that only come with 4K resolutions...like HDR. Technically 1080p will allow HDR in console, but it's not always ideal.

@@rmt74358 That's a pretty easy explanation man. Windows is saying 2160p because that's what windows is sending to the monitor. When the monitor gets the video signal, the monitor itself is down scaling that image to it's native resolution. Because this takes time and processing power on the part of the monitor itself, that's why it's limited to only 60hz.
@@ofmannotmachine3012 why is it downscaling when 4k is higher resolution than 1440p? It would be upscaling to 4k if that's the case. I have this monitor too and in my setting it will do 4k60 as well.

I had to do a double take myself on that clip. The labels are accurate unfortunately. But that's why I like the monitor so much, it performs extremely well without the HDR setting.
I noticed SDR does look really good when you're on the desktop and in certain games. Once you get HDR calibrated in games it is a way way nicer experience overall. You get way more levels of black with HDR enabled versus the SDR image, so instead of all the dark areas just looking like a similar level of black, they actually stand out more clearly.
Will this monitor look good using a 1660ti? I'm running a laptop,to a 27" 60hz monitor currently. Being that the 1660ti is a 1080p card will it look crappy or too stretched on this monitor, playing pc games? Hello, I know it's been a long time since you tested the monitor, I just bought the 343cqr ultrawide, I saw your settings in the description and you have "night vision" in "IA", however it seems very annoying to me, well no It does more than constantly adjust the black every time you move in the game and gives a feeling of "flickering" and rising and falling in intensity in dark areas. Not to mention that in some games it also produces a "Black Smearing" effect. Did this also happen to you or is it this monitor that came to me that doesn't work well with "night vision" in "AI"? I'm still in trouble. test time, and the truth is that by deactivating the "night vision" the blacks are not as good as in other VA panels that I have tried. The truth is that with the "Night Vision" in "IA" the blacks and the scenes are very good , but it has that problem of constantly adjusting and makes it very uncomfortable.
Ooh that is tough. The MSI felt a bit more quality and is brighter. But the Gigabyte really paired well with console unlike any monitor I have tested. Tough call.
That's a tough question. I am going to be making a video about that. I am hoping to do that soon. I will say that price to performance the GP83 is REALLY hard to beat. But feature wise this monitor takes the cake.
i have the refresh rate displaying on the top left corner and noticed that you also have it on yours,,,,,can this be turned off? just bought this monitor this past week. thanks
I am guessing that is an update they have fixed! I am glad to hear it, because at the time there was no solution as far as I could find. Thanks for letting me know though! Really.
LOL let me guess you like to Play WARZONE? Also, I've been looking for an answer on mounting to this monitor. Does it support VESA mounting for wall brackets?
It should be the same exact monitor in a smaller size. I would give the same recommendation of this video. Which is solid performance for overall motion capability.
Thank you for your review, really helpful! Do you think this version on QD is worth it? I think in a VA panel because I like to play in dark rooms... Does this work well with an RX 6700xt at 1440p?
I have asked myself the same question. Although I am not fully bought in on the QD model. To each their own, but I will stick with this for now. I think you are paying extra for something that may not be worth the extra $$. That's just my opinion.
That definitely sounds like a bad monitor. I would exchange it for something new. You could try a different DP on the graphics card or try hdmi to rule out anything else. But, im leaning toward a bad panel if this is the first time you are experiencing this.
I really wanted the 343cqr because I saw web reviews talking about how good the HDR is on these monitors. However, your video is the only one showing HDR being using on the series. Im assuming the 323 and 343 would have similiar results? I bit dissapointing especially seeing that super white washout on Metro there. Im assuming it's because there is no local dimming to enhance some parts and making other parts shaded.
So Metro is in HDR, until I switch over to SDR to compare the difference. I do think out of pretty much all 1440p monitors I have reviewed, this monitor had the best HDR. But it's not a higher certification than others. The 34 wouldn't be much different than the 32.
I have this monitor and I've found that with HDR enabled, it's best to turn auto brightness off, use freesync (if you can), leave brightness and contrast to defaults on the monitor itself, use in game HDR calibrations to set up your levels. I was having whiteness blowout and overly dark areas in most games until I did this.
@@l.r.7505 You need to enable adaptive sync on the monitor and make sure under the windows display settings that you have the correct refresh rate set in the display settings. Thanks for the ❓'s I will answer to the best of my ability here. The biggest difference would be the ultra wide factor. They are both VA panels and basically same spec. But they will operate differently depending on how you use them. Scaling will be different, console support will be different. But otherwise, they are pretty much the same.
So far I have 2 and tge first one had 3 dead pixels and bad back bleed so I exchanged it and now the USB-b type plus in the software doesn't recognize it! I got a hold of MSI help and they really didn't know why the software wasn't working throughout all the troubleshooting!
No I haven't. I have read about it, Gigabyte has been very reliable to me with their M28U. I'll definitely add it to the list for upcoming videos and if I get the chance I'll buy it and review it.
I would do your calibration in SDR. You may be able to do both though. I'm pretty sure this monitor has saved settings, so you can save the SDR and HDR calibrations.
That is kind of the way it goes. You may have to turn off certain settings in order to open up others. Take some time to go through the menus and see what you can get to open up/
I'm assuming they use the same panel, just different internal hardware and menus. I have not actually compared them, but I would assume they are very similar, minus the difference in refresh rate and price.
@@BainCustom how about recommending speaker system if price were not an object .. then maybe one budget system if you were price conscious… thank you so much
Buying this tomorrow. I just need to know if this is best for my Msi gl65 leopard laptop with nvidia GeForce gtx 1660TI graphics card and am i getting the most out of this monitor with what i have?
With that graphics card you will have room to grow and upgrade if you so choose. So yes, I would probably be looking at similar monitors if I were you. Most people might say to look at a 1080p monitor, but you want the ability to use the monitor for years to come.
@@BainCustomI also have the 1660ti using a laptop with HDMI to a 27" Acer. I'm thinking of getting this monitor but not sure if it's overkill being the 1660ti is a 1080p card. Will this monitor look good with that card or should I look at 1080p monitors?
I guess that makes sense. HDR can mess with those colors quite a bit depending on the game. There should be some color calibration, but you might lose that option under HDR.
I have my own calibration in the video description. It should do a good job getting you to good contrast and brightness. If you want to tweak it a bit further, by all means get in and make some changes. I was happy with the result though.
@@BainCustom I figured out that I hooks in on the bottom edge of the monitor on the right hand side, it’s to run a headset cable through so it doesn’t hang down on the desk
@@BainCustom I am looking specifically for editing work. I had a very bad experience with a 34" 1440p 21:9 flat monitor. The sides were so skewed, they were unusable. And the PPI was too high to read anything. I've increased the UI scaling, but that way less software interface fits into screen. Notice that 34" ultrawides have less physical vertical screen value compared to 32" 16:9, that may explain a bump in PPI. This one has a lesser PPI, I'm only afraid of the 1000R curve. Moreover, as far as I've seen, 1000R monitors have a variable curve - it's more bendy in the center and near to flat at the sides. That may bring problems with video previewing.
Great video, I've bought 1 for my xbox series x and when I press the menu tab it's showing its running 60hz and I can't seem to change it anywhere on the monitor menu
I had the same issue recently. I ended up bringing down the resolution to 1980x1080 in games such as Warzone. Once I did that it jumped to around 144hz.
Solid monitor for sure. You may have to change the settings in the xbox menus to allow 1440p 120hz. Xbox isn't smart enough to choose for you unfortunately. Your main issue is probably the allow 4k button inside the video settings on xbox.
So there are no HDMI 2.1 1440p monitors. The reason is that HDMI 2.0 will send 1440p 120hz signals just fine. This monitor will do that for the series X and it will downscale 4K 60hz.
@@BainCustom thanks for the reply. I checked it earlier and according to some sites it doesn't have speakers which is kinda a deal breaker lol. Good thing I can take this impulse buy back and get refunded.
Are you using it with PC? If so, right click the desktop and go into display settings, then advanced display settings and it will give a drop down for the refresh rate.
Most monitors have some form of Variable Sync or VRR. It is more important to know if the system (PC or Console) supports VRR with the monitor you are looking at, and how good the tech is from the system. But yes, this monitor is Freesync/V-Sync capable.
Of course there is some, but overall I actually think this monitor is better than most 1440p options when it comes to input lag and motion handling on console.
@@BainCustom i ask because it seems like for example in the metro section, when you talk about turning off HDR mode 23:25 the sliding transition which brings in the HDR footage is labeled HDR off.
Taking into consideration the price, similar monitors I have reviewed and the tests I did...I would say a solid 8/10, the blur buster tests do show that lower fps performance in the video so you can see how it stacks up.
No, most monitors will not, you want your source (PC or Console) to do the audio processing, not the monitor. There are TV Gaming Monitors that will have optical out though.
Shoot! Check the manual and it will list the screw size. Typically it will start with an M and then a number like M6 or something like that. Then you can find it anywhere online or a hardware store.
The best I can really offer is to tell you to watch this playlist and pick a monitor that fits your needs. I have reviewed about 3 or 4 of them. th-cam.com/play/PL3_GjWZgNx1iiIVTWDz1dmvq7ikO0Uz-p.html

Thanks for the ❓'s I will answer to the best of my ability here. The biggest difference would be the ultra wide factor. They are both VA panels and basically same spec. But they will operate differently depending on how you use them. Scaling will be different, console support will be different. But otherwise, they are pretty much the same.
@@BainCustom does g-sync work?
I do not believe it is. I did not have my RTX card setup for testing during this video, so I did not personally test it.
mines a freesync monitor??
So far I have 2 and tge first one had 3 dead pixels and bad back bleed so I exchanged it and now the USB-b type plus in the software doesn't recognize it! I got a hold of MSI help and they really didn't know why the software wasn't working throughout all the troubleshooting!
Yeah wow. It's always a pain to have to deal with those QC issues. But it happens with every monitor unfortunately. Are you going to keep it?
Im returning my ASUS TUF Gaming VG34VQL1B 34 for this instead. How would you say they compare? Is this better?
Whats wrong with that asus monitor ?
I have the 32" version of that Asus monitor. How do you think they compare picture wise for HDR? I'm genuinely curious.
I would like to use it from a 74cm distance from my eyes. What do you think about?
oddly specific. But that is probably about average for a gaming monitor. 32 might be a bit large, but it is curved so by all means...go for it!
Have you had a chance to use the Gigabyte M32Q? It seems very competitive for 1440p 165hz 32" monitors, probably similar to this one and the LG.
No I haven't. I have read about it, Gigabyte has been very reliable to me with their M28U. I'll definitely add it to the list for upcoming videos and if I get the chance I'll buy it and review it.
I have a msi artymis 343cqr, do you recommend to use it with HDR on or with HDR off and calibrate the image through the monitor settings?
I would do your calibration in SDR. You may be able to do both though. I'm pretty sure this monitor has saved settings, so you can save the SDR and HDR calibrations.
is it worth buying this monitor over msi optix mag 272 the old version, i want this exact monitor but 32 inch looks too big
32 inch is pretty big. It's always larger than I expect, but I get used to it quick. I believe this monitor is made in a 27 inch also.
amzn.to/3moiImj
@@BainCustom is it worth it though over ASUS?
@@pufferfish8802 as far as I know this has higher specs than the ASUS equivalent Freesync monitor

Hello sir, what about MPRT test in Blur Busters, what time we get in ms ( 6x6)?
I am not sure exactly what the question is. Maybe I am reading it wrong?
I got it for my ps5 yesterday but some of my options are grey out like my brightness and other settings, and idk what to do hellpppp
That is kind of the way it goes. You may have to turn off certain settings in order to open up others. Take some time to go through the menus and see what you can get to open up/
were you able to figure out why your some of your options were greyed out?
the techcussy
How’s this monitor vs the Odyssey G7 32 inch 1000r curve monitor?
I'm assuming they use the same panel, just different internal hardware and menus. I have not actually compared them, but I would assume they are very similar, minus the difference in refresh rate and price.

What audio system would you recommend ? Thinking about getting this for my ps5
How good of a system are you looking for? I could recommend all sorts of speakers or headphones. But a lot of my favorites are pretty spendy.
@@BainCustom how about recommending speaker system if price were not an object .. then maybe one budget system if you were price conscious… thank you so much
Round 2, bought one and was sent a dud! First monitor wouldn’t turn on at all picking up the second tomorrow
It happens unfortunately. Don't let it deter you from enjoying the monitor, it was a sweet buy on my part.
I got the second one today and it’s amazing, love it so far for my first person shooters. Easy set up for the Xbox Series X and COD is beyond smooth
@@staceyfluellenjr.5255 How is the contrast. Like how are the blacks.
@@BainCustom I grabbed it... apex has never been a better experience!
@@BainCustomI also have the 1660ti using a laptop with HDMI to a 27" Acer. I'm thinking of getting this monitor but not sure if it's overkill being the 1660ti is a 1080p card. Will this monitor look good with that card or should I look at 1080p monitors?
Is it vesa Mount compatible? If so, 75mm or 100mm?
I believe it is VESA 75mm.
I only got a ps4 and a pc and Idk if the monitor will like my ps4 or vice versa
PS4 probably not so much. Depends on the PC, but most new generation of GPU's will run 1440p no problem.
Anyone else getting a reddish purpleish hue during movement (in game) or scrolling?
Ahh I guess HDR is giving that red/purple hue
I guess that makes sense. HDR can mess with those colors quite a bit depending on the game. There should be some color calibration, but you might lose that option under HDR.
Do you have any videos or tips for calibrating the display for pc?
I have my own calibration in the video description. It should do a good job getting you to good contrast and brightness. If you want to tweak it a bit further, by all means get in and make some changes. I was happy with the result though.
Hi! I just bought this monitor, what is the small spring piece for and where does it go?
Haha... I had the same question. I want to say it's for cable management, but I couldn't actually find a place for it to go.
@@BainCustom I figured out that I hooks in on the bottom edge of the monitor on the right hand side, it’s to run a headset cable through so it doesn’t hang down on the desk

Anybody know of a good desk mount for this monitor the bulky ass stand doesn’t fit on my desk well
can you actually not get rid of the fps tracker on the top left
I did. It was in the gaming settings. Did you figure it out?
Is it good for photo/video editing?
Better then most for sure. As long as you also game on it, otherwise you might want something more geared toward photo/video editing.
Your main issue is probably the allow 4k button inside the video settings on xbox.
you can only get 165hz using dp
This monitor actually can do 4K at 60hz, so that is probably why. Look it up! As long as you are in 1440p there should be no limit to the 165hz
@@Cleanpea you have to use display port to get 165hz
Just got an series x would this monitor be good for it ? Does it have the hdmi 2.1 option?
So there are no HDMI 2.1 1440p monitors. The reason is that HDMI 2.0 will send 1440p 120hz signals just fine. This monitor will do that for the series X and it will downscale 4K 60hz.
Question regarding this monitor. I've got it hooked up via HDMI and I have no sound. Is there any speakers on this thing? Or am I missing something?
I believe it does. Make sure the speakers are turned on within the monitor menu, it may be defaulted to off.
@@BainCustom thanks for the reply. I checked it earlier and according to some sites it doesn't have speakers which is kinda a deal breaker lol. Good thing I can take this impulse buy back and get refunded.
There you go. It doesn't have a 3.5mm for headphones?
@@BainCustom it does but I'd rather have onboard speakers (it's the lil things) I've already got it packed and ready to take back lol.
I hear you. I know Asus has a 32 inch with similar specs the VG32VQR I believe. I'm fairly certain it has a speaker.
I want to order this monitor. Is it ok with PlayStation
For sure. Did you end up getting it? Still one of my top picks.
display port didn’t switch for me either

usb-c for upstream and dp for video. That is just how i hooked it up

Are you using it with PC? If so, right click the desktop and go into display settings, then advanced display settings and it will give a drop down for the refresh rate.
@@BainCustom awesome thanks for the help
Does the monitor have speakers? I have it but I can’t seem to find a volume setting
No it does not, it just has a 3.5mm output for external speakers.
This monitor has: Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) ?
Most monitors have some form of Variable Sync or VRR. It is more important to know if the system (PC or Console) supports VRR with the monitor you are looking at, and how good the tech is from the system. But yes, this monitor is Freesync/V-Sync capable.
Are 1000 Curve good for shooter ? i play pubg steam and bf 2042

what's a good good one? Get it for sure if you are looking for a reasonably priced PS5 monitor.
any ghosting or input lag on consoles?
Of course there is some, but overall I actually think this monitor is better than most 1440p options when it comes to input lag and motion handling on console.
Does this monitor work good for Xbox series s on warzone
It did test extremely well in the video I did for Xbox. Check that out. But yeah it is good all things considered.
Did you mix up hdr on hdr off footage?
There is a mix of HDR and non HDR, but I was certain to mark when HDR was on. Most of the video is SDR.
@@BainCustom i ask because it seems like for example in the metro section, when you talk about turning off HDR mode 23:25 the sliding transition which brings in the HDR footage is labeled HDR off.
how would you rate the motion clarity of this monitor from 1-10 specifically in the lower refresh rates like 60-120
Taking into consideration the price, similar monitors I have reviewed and the tests I did...I would say a solid 8/10, the blur buster tests do show that lower fps performance in the video so you can see how it stacks up.
hdmi 2.1 or this monitor?
Are you asking if it has HDMI 2.1 or if you should get an HDMI 2.1 over this monitor?
@@BainCustom both sorry I was in a rush.
If you're using PS5 or Xbox then absolutely HDMI 2.1 is the best option. This monitor is not, but it's a good monitor.
Does it have an optical out ?
No, most monitors will not, you want your source (PC or Console) to do the audio processing, not the monitor. There are TV Gaming Monitors that will have optical out though.
is this monitor hdmi 2.1?
it's 1440p. I imagine at some point we will have 2.1 for higher frames on 1440p, but for now it is not needed due to DP.

Commercial?
Can someone please tell me where i can by the screw that goes under the stand i lost it and i cant stand my monitor
Shoot! Check the manual and it will list the screw size. Typically it will start with an M and then a number like M6 or something like that. Then you can find it anywhere online or a hardware store.
