  • Hey everyone,
    I've seen a lot of people on Social Media using these pedals more and more, and ditching their large tube amps. So today, I'm going to show you how I run a Mooer micro preamp (005 Brown Sound) into a 4 x 12 cabinet! I think it's an awesome solution for the gigging musician, and highly praise Mooer for getting such great tones into these small form factor pedals!
    #Mooer #Brown Sound #Micro preamp
    DISCLAIMER - you need a power amp to power a 4x12 cabinet, the Mooer micro preamp pedal will not do this on it's own. Here, I'm using a ISP Stealth, which works pretty well, but there are all sorts of small solid state power amps on the market.

    What do you guys think about micro preamps and small gear? Are you using any in your rig?

      I’d totally use one if I didn’t have a modeler I was super happy with - smaller is more convenient, especially when it sounds that good. Good call on using one as a backup rig, probably gonna steal that idea

      I would like to see (or hear I guess) you compare this to the pv Panama on the pod hd. I'm debating on either buying the hd pack for my 500x or buying this pedal.
      Also I am pretty happy with my tone but I'm always curious on how it could be better. Pretty much just slaving my joyo zombie to run my pod. Using the tread plate with no cab bc I'm using a 1x12 with a v30.

    Mooer 005 Brown Sound 3 is (i.m.o.) the best Mooer pedal/preamp. I like not to put the distortion at maximum, but at medium level and boost it with an overdrive in front of it (boss super overdrive sd-1 or mxr berzerker are my favs).

  • @ScienceofLogicTV
    @ScienceofLogicTV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Compact is key.
    I think the answer is a reliable IEM system to take the cabinet out of the equation. Until then I use a powered wedge to monitor my tone. I simply attach a trolley handle and some wheels to it so I can easily move is around.

    I live in an apartment where the neighbors above me can hear almost everything. Can't even turn my Joyo Zombie and Harley Benton 112v up loud enough to get a decent sound. So instead I'm running a Mooer 001 pedal into a little 50 PA in my living room and it sounds amazing for practicing at those low volumes. Would love to hear how it compares on a much bigger PA someday, but it's perfect for my situation

    I think these are really cool, but I also don't think you can beat a tube amp. Tubes just feel completely different, even though pedals like this "sound" the same. I would 100% use this or my GE200 as a backup with a power amp...
    By the way, I see Mooer makes a 30-watt power amp. I wonder how much that will push a 4x12 cab. Matching up the GE200 or one of the preamps with that might be a good rig!

      Awesome, thanks bro! 🙌 Yeah I used the ge200 to track guitars for quite a while, and it was really great at the time. Now, I almost always track a DI and use an amp sim to monitor. Having that DI track comes in handy when I'm doing all these gear reviews so I can reamp the track and not have to record a new song for every demo.

    Cool vid dude. Im really considering getting a mooer mesa preamp pedal. Currently running a 6505+ which is sick but id be a liar if I said I didn't miss my old triple rec! Have u tried any of those? I do have a joyo zombie so I guess i kind of already have a "Mesa" style micro head I could slave to the 6505🙊
    Ill bet the mooer cali duel would murder my joyo amp tho lol have a good one dude!

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks!! I have one of the Cali Mk3 micropreamps, and its comparable to the model in the ge200, so I would imagine the others are as well. The Rectifier patches in the ge200 though are really weak in my opinion. Haven't tried Joyo, but definitely am interested. I think what I like about this setup is you can swap out preamps really easily.

  • @WillMaskellTaylor
    @WillMaskellTaylor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video dude! I currently gig with a 5150 MK 2 and don't get me wrong, I fucking love that amp, but I'm sick of lugging it into venues, and it takes up too much room in the band transport. I was thinking of getting the new mooer preamp live which basically has all these mini pedals built in along with cab sim's and the ability to load your own IR's. I was thinking a decent rig would be my pedal board with the mooer and then a power amp to go into cabs in case the venue has a shitty pa or an old confused sound engineer who only knows tube amps lol. It would basically mean we could gig with just our guitars and pedal-boards, we could potentially get on planes with our live rigs as hand luggage which just amazes me XD

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Yeah, space is definitely a concern and you really can mitigate a lot of it by using these micropreamps. Especially with all the new solid state poweramp that are out now, which usually aren't much larger than the pedals, you can really make a small but powerful rig!

      Yes, I have one. The point of the screamer in front is to tighten so you dont have to run you gain as high through the amp. This is super common. No, you absolutely dont need more gain out of a 5150 lol

    Would this also sound good with a 1x12 cab with a v30

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, just disable the speaker emulation. Youd need a power amp too.

      Or you listen too slow 🤔
      In all seriousness, I know I talk fast. I would rather come off as natural rather than trying to force something and it coming off as scripted. 🤷‍♂️
      Either way, thanks for the comment 🙌

      Thanks! You are right though... I do have to ask people sometimes if I just explained something to fast. Sometimes I go off on tangents. I do try to dial it back for the most part, but sometimes I get going and it's like a 10 ton boulder rolling downhill 🤷‍♂️

    Dud cut down on your talking about everything but pedal. Just some advice. Oh and one more piece of advice. Playing something beside gallop picking on low e. Players want to her all aspects of the pedal . Not everyone plays thrash metal.
