    Thanks for dropping by. To me, they sound the same with the exception if having a presence knob in the preamp live to brighten them up. What do you think?

    • @IvansLV777

      in solo the difference is more significant but in the mix they can sound almost the same.

      Lol how can you say they are same..i think its probably about your headphones.There is tonal difference and its not only about presence knob.Also Presence gives you a lot of tonal combination...Ofc i dont mean Preamp live is better in this video.

    it's like the live preamp had a more processed sound, and the micro preamps had a more raw sound.

    The micro preamps somehow have this mid-rangy throaty sound that the preamp live doesn't. great effort in doing this videos. Probably next video you can do a side by side comparison between your favourite metal tones on the GE models, preamp live and micro preamp? Also you should be a Mooer artist with all the exposure you're giving!

    You saved me 400 bucks! I was honestly considering getting the live pedal until I heard the difference between it and the mini pedals. The live sounds pissy in comparison. I subbed just now bc this video really helped me out!

    Preamp Live's presence knob makes all the difference. The Micro pedals sound kindda boxy without it; might be easily fixed with an EQ, though.

    I seem to dig the micro versions of Brown Sound 3 and Cali Dual more than the Preamp ones.

    That presence knob makes a ton of difference.. got a dual cali with a ds1 in front for some push and that thing is mega tight after adding a gate. If my board had space I'd consider the live but im more than happy with my current rig now.

  • @apoplexiamusic

    wow... the Preamp Live sounds so much better!!! BTW the Black Knight on the Preamp Live sound sounds quite close to my AMT E1 Pedal, which is basically the lead channel of an Engl Powerball! Well i'm guessing the IRs and power amp emulation i dial in get close to the settings you had dialed here.
    Really tight and agressive and you can can really crank the highs and it won't get fizzy but actually just richer!

  • @hbomb495
    @hbomb495 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Damn, I thought the individual pedals would have sounded better but they all had that “blanket over the cab” sound and response to them in comparison to the preamp live. That presence control really makes a difference. Unless there’s some power amp emulation going on in the preamp live or something 🤔
    Not gonna lie, would love to try the Blacknight pedal through the fx return of my Marshall DSL 20 head and see what comes out, or maybe the Mooer Phoenix pedal would be interesting 🧐

    • @williamphillips24
      @williamphillips24 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Mooer Preamp Live does have power amp emulation in it, where you can select the power tubes and how hard to run them. It can be turned on or off. Don't know what's going on here though.

    • @RobertMurphy-wm3ge
      @RobertMurphy-wm3ge 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "blanket over the cab" response was the IR added in POST.
      It makes everything sound the same...and kind of bad in my opinion

    Just bought a second hand Preamp Live basically only for the Tone Capture option. But its always noce to have a lot of other amp options on board. Hope to load the Preamp of my Boogie Mk1 which I use in my Santana Tribute band.
    If I can get the same ( or really close to it ) tone and sound out of the Preamp Live I dont have to drag around the 40 kg weighing Boogie anymore.

  • @thedddemon
    @thedddemon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have done the same test and you get EXACTLY THE SAME SOUND between the pedals and Live Preamp, if you enable the POWERAMP on the live preamp unit.

    • @andyblakely7576
      @andyblakely7576 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the difference we’re hearing here. I have both preamp pedals and the live. You have to use the power amp feature in PAL. In the end the PAL has a ton of options, pre and post gate, cab sims, power amp, etc. it’s killer. Let alone the tone capture.

  • @eranfalek
    @eranfalek 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like the preams best when they go into the loop of a real amp. Straight to the interface always felt a bit too compressed for me. Also the amp adds the presence control.
    The preamp live sounds better into an interface imo. It would be interesting to compare them with an amp as well.
    Cheers.

      @TaylorDanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a bad idea! 🙌

    • @sebawillem
      @sebawillem 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, the Micro Preamps do not have power amp emulation. The Preamp Live does. That makes a big difference. Although for some amps like the Cali Dual, the saturation on the micro preamp is fatter, it does not have the clarity that the Preamp Live has. Notes are harder to distinguish.

    • @eranfalek
      @eranfalek 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sebawillem the micropreamps has an internal ir which, I believe, include the poweramp emulation. Otherwise, I can't see a reason to put it on. It sounds ok directly to the interface, just too compressed imo. It's definitely usable. But I hear the best results when they are in the fx loop. For direct recording I prefer amp sims in a plugin format.
      I don't have the preamp live, but it seems (or heard) that it handles direct recording better.

    Personally they all sound great to me, but the preamp live has the edge, it just seems to have a fuller sound, like it's eq'd differently, or presence, or something.

  • @azzazelo
    @azzazelo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Huh? I'm surprised there's such a massive difference. There seems to be more variance between the pedals than between the patches. Preamp live sounds are all kind of alike to my ears

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I noticed they are pretty similar as well. Could be the built in matched IRs vs whatever is going on in the pedals 🤷‍♂️

  • @jeremywilson5647
    @jeremywilson5647 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The little pedals all sound a bit ‘boxy’. The difference sounds like a amp/cab vs a 12 inch combo. With a custom IR I bet the differences in sound would be very similar to each other. Good comparison!!

  • @davel_ggw
    @davel_ggw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Tough call... In some cases I think I preferred the pedal, in other cases the preamp live. The texture of the distortions sounded almost identical I thought, but the preamp live often sounded brighter, and the pedals often sounded thicker with more low end. The additional presence knob on the preamp live could be a factor in that? Thanks!

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, I think so. When I was dialing them I kept it at 50%, but I think that was probably a boost in most cases. In comparison though, I think they sound better on the preamp live than the ge200. I really like this thing, especially with the bluetooth control

  • @arkavagoswami3068
    @arkavagoswami3068 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think single preamp pedals sound much crispier than the preamp live though it can be dialed as per need as having,ng,cab ir loader,boost so many things going on n all the preamp pedal tones in 1 box but to for only 1 to 1 comparison single preamps i'll choose..bdw i have the 009 n it sounds awesome wid a boost n ir

    La calidad de los productos, incluidos los simuladores de amplificadores y gabinetes, puede variar significativamente según el enfoque y la dedicación del fabricante en su desarrollo. En muchos casos, los micro preamplificadores que están específicamente diseñados para simular un amplificador auténtico pueden ofrecer resultados más realistas que los incorporados en dispositivos multiefecto con muchas funciones adicionales.
    La razón detrás de esto radica en el enfoque y los recursos dedicados a cada uno de estos productos. Cuando una marca se enfoca completamente en replicar con precisión un amplificador específico en un micro preamplificador, puede invertir más tiempo y esfuerzo en investigar, analizar y emular minuciosamente el comportamiento tonal del amplificador original.
    Por otro lado, en un dispositivo multiefecto que incluye simulaciones de amplificadores junto con otras muchas funciones, el enfoque puede ser más general, lo que podría resultar en una emulación menos detallada y auténtica del amplificador deseado. Además, al incluir numerosas funciones adicionales, el procesamiento digital puede afectar negativamente la calidad del tono y hacer que el resultado final suene menos natural o "falso".
    Sin embargo, es importante destacar que esto no significa que todos los dispositivos multiefecto sean inherentemente de baja calidad. Hay algunas marcas que han logrado desarrollar simulaciones muy realistas en sus multiefectos, pero esto puede requerir una mayor inversión en términos de desarrollo y tecnología.
    si están buscando la simulación más auténtica de un amplificador específico, es posible que encuentres resultados más satisfactorios en los micro preamplificadores que se centran exclusivamente en replicar ese amplificador. Pero si valoras la versatilidad y la capacidad de tener múltiples efectos en un solo dispositivo, un multiefecto con buenas simulaciones también podría ser una opción viable.

    Cabinet IR added in post... Then the amp voicing is covered up and will all sound the same... Like they did.
    The Plexi isn't meant for that sludgy sloggy stuff.. it's meant for Billy Gibbons and the like.
    To me, this was not a fair or accurate demonstration.
    For those interested these pedals all have a great unique voice that is well presented on Andertons.

    I was wondering about the preamp pedals vs the joyo bantamps. I was looking to get for example a 5150 sound, what would be better sounding, a mooer or a joyo?

    • @AaronMorgan666
      @AaronMorgan666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hopefully you when with the mooer. I forgot what it's called but they have a 6505 and 5153 he mentioned. Also will depend on what your going for. The joyo is good for jamming. But not live or not even with a drummer. If your going direct, as in front of house to a p.a. then definitely mooer.

    The micro preamps are not all-in-one solutions. They give just more flavor inside complex chains. My personnal killer chain: cheap 808 OD as boost -> clean/OD of an valvestate 8080 (real valve) -> cali-Dual preamp -> only mooer radar 's sim amp section -> old zoom gx-1(post equ, pre cab coloration, ligth delay or chorus) -> return to the solid state section of the V8080.

    Great vid ! I actually have the Cali Mk3 and the Preamp Live and run them on my amp directly in front of it, boosting them with a ts9 if needed (no Preamp Live integrated boost pedal sim) and using an eq in the loop. On this setup I found the mini Cali MK3 a really convincing amp sounding pedal when I compare it to my tube dirt channel. Rich, deep and complex. No thraoty sound at all. In the other hand Preamp live can be dialed very near but it has that subtle annoying tone that I find in every preamp, wich it make it kind of fake... Wich in my opinion is the opposite of this demo, runned on a DI wich make it outstanding. For this use or with headphones, Preamp Live rules! So many possible tweaks, boosts, presence, mics, tubes, onboard IR's, custom IR's cabs... ! The mini pedal integrated IR is really dull to me. Would be interested to hear a mini pedal on a DI with custom IR tough.

  • @jimshea9248
    @jimshea9248 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me, the Cali MKIII sounded best out of the Preamp Live. The Brown Sound 3 and the Black Knight minis won out in their comparison. They are just beasts in a tiny package. The Pramp Live won out for the Cali Dual and the US Gold PLX. Both of those minis made the lower strings sound a bit flubby for my taste. I noticed the "throaty" sound mentioned by a few people with the PLX. I bet they would pair pretty well with an overdrive, though. I use the Black Knight mini live and it has never failed to provide a crushing distortion. I would recommend some type of noise gate with some of the grittier distortion preamps as they can squeal quite a bit if you use them at high gain and high volume. \m/

    When using the preamps with a power amp what are you listening for when setting volume? Maybe could address that in the power amp comparison? I'm never sure how I want the 2 volumes set. Preamp volume vs master volume on the amp I'm slaving, the reason I mention this is because I noticed some of the volumes on the preamps were different on the comparison.I intend on getting a power amp it just has to wait a bit. Also want a 2x12 currently still just using the fx return on my joyo zombie with a 1x12 with a v30.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends. If using a solid state power amp, you want to turn your volume on the power amp way up, and use your preamp volume to control the overall level. I can probably go into detail in the vid

    Hey Taylor, can you see if mooer can send you a baby bomb, your 4x12 and if you have a 2x12, and all the metal preamps and do a taylor style demo, (plays a song through all the preamps boosted with noisegates) like discussed before, there are not enough modern metal demos on TH-cam. Mostly dad "metal" not hating but holy shit is there alot of them. Van halen, acdc, judas priest, megadeth. One last minute edit. Could you do a separate video of the baby bomb with your modelers with the "who does it better" format for amps modeled. I can go more indepth if your curious. It doesn't have to be the babybomb if you can't get it. You could do it with your powerstage or that little black power amp you have.

    how does the joyo zombie/vivo compares to these + poweramp?

  • @MikeHenrick1
    @MikeHenrick1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Everything sounds exactly the same. Blind test them. There’s a slight difference. But to be fair. I’d not buy any of the based on this, and I love the mess boogie mk3 used semi clean with slight break up. As a bluesy lead sound.

    Do any of the Mooer Micro Preamp pedals do the 80’s hair metal thing, with a wider frequency response, and that would excel at driving a Marshall Plexi? Cheers~

      Not my area of expertise, but I imagine you could probably do something like that with a PLX, the preamp live has built in boosts, so it's more suited for tone sculpting as a whole than the micropres

      @@TaylorDanley Thanks for the recommendation. Btw - I was reviewing the Mooer site and came across the Phoenix module - sounds interesting to review. “Soaring from the flames, the MOOER PHOENIX is a homage to modern, German-designed metal amps.”

      @@BigMikeGuitar I have the black knight that Taylor demoed, it's one of the better pedals in the line for high gain, so one based on the fireball should be pretty good! They have good resale value so if you don't like it you can sell it online and not be out too much 👍

    These micro preamps suck the tight low end out from any pedalboard chain, Preamp live all the way. Plus the knobs on micro preamps are pretty annoying to use

      I ran a Headrush into a Headrush FRFR for stage monitor and straight to front of house and I brought one guitar. Easy set up, easy tear down and I can haul everything in one trip. Its the absolute solution to me. Feel is nice and all, but I don't really care about that as much as I do the tone and not breaking my back..lol

    A terrible product. It does sound good, but it is absolutely unreliable. After a week of buying it, it stopped working, luckily under warranty so I got it replaced. The new unit, after a year stopped working again. Unfortunately not under warranty anymore. I lost my money. I was able to record a couple of demos with it and that's all. Also, they stop developing the software. Don't buy it!
