  • Do Mooer micro preamps and the GE200 sound different? | 005 Brown Sound and the 008 Cali MK3
Hey guys! I've wanted to throw this together for a while now. I've always wondered if there was any huge difference between the Mooer micropreamps and the same models that are being modeled in the GE200. I only have the 005 Brown Sound (EVH 5150 iii), and the 008 Cali MK3 (Mesa Boogie Mark 3), but we'll compare them live and in a mix, and see how they differ!

So many TH-cam channels demoing gear in all different price ranges often have a bunch of expensive guitars, studio gear and an assortment of amps and cabs. Most of us are envious but also having all that stuff isn’t practical, hence why modellers sell well these days and the growth in amp sim vst software & speaker cabinet impulse responses

I think micro pedals sound better, richer and with greater amount of mid frqs. GE200 sounds good but quite scooped with the EVH emulation and "fuzzy" with the MKIII... should be interesting to compare GE200 with teh 011 CaliDual micro pedal

That's fun how it came to the comparison of 5150, I did like the Micro in the mix a bit more, but suprisingly it sounded much worse (my opinion) than GE200 once soloed - ge200 had more clearance for me, but in mix it had too much muddy mid.

The GE200 has a 5 band eq for everything I believe. I don't know if you have the GE150 but it would be cool to hear a comparison of that and the 200. Also maybe include the micro preamps.

Another thing to take into consideration is that if you get one of the mini pedals and aren't super happy with the sound, there's really not much you can do aside from running it into an eq pedal of some sort to try and get it to where you like it. With something like the GE200 or Preamp Live, you can always switch out the cab which can make a HUGE difference.
So, while the mini pedals are a bargain at $100 for (basically) a 2 channel pedal, the GE has a LOT more versatility and if you grab an Ownhammer IR pack (or similar) it can make it even better.

GE200 sounds like DVD and the mini preamps are like Blu-ray.. the detail on mini preamps are amazing. But I think you can get most on GE200 by choosing good IR to compensate the lack of detail... I think .. haven't tried it. Because I use the stock... Maybe you could do it on new video?🤔😁

005 Brown Sound definitely had more balls than the Ge200 in that instance. I don't know if that's the differences in the modeling or settings dialed in for each. Both sounded great though.
Then the MKIII came in and sounded pretty thick and raw, while the Ge200 sounded more polished and mix-friendy. I felt like the Micro preamp seemed to have more depth at first, but I started liking it less as the track went on.
But I've also been playing guitar through for almost 9 hours straight and my ears need a break......... So they can't be trusted right now anyway

@@TaylorDanley Yeah I hadn't heard of Valeton either until GuitarMax reviewed their TAR-20G 20w mini amp head recently. My hunch is many of the overseas pedal companies 'share' designs, build them into different products & see what sticks.. I even found info online that Valeton is a trademark of Hotone, which is somewhat affiliated with Sonicake? Anyways based on this I really do wonder if the Valeton Coral Amp is literally the same amp models from Mooer's preamp series rolled into one product. Here's the best demo I've seen on TH-cam so far, I was impressed: th-cam.com/video/5zHWYNANnbc/w-d-xo.html

I have the Valeton coral and it’s a disappointment, can’t be compared to the Mooer micro precise tonal definition and clarity. The flamma preamp is probably the best deal on the market now, it’s sounds very close to the Mooer micros and you have 7 amps in a sturdy full size pedal for 100$.

    • @christianbouchard7136
      @christianbouchard7136 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@sonofdirt I also believed that it was the same amp modeling repackaged under different brand names but it’s not the case, the Mooers are untouchable for the money so far, I own the Valeton coral, the flamma preamp and I had the donner devil 5150, the donner was a big disappointment, I was excited about it thinking it was a repackaged Mooer 5150 with a reverb, it sounded muddy and the reverb was horrible. The flamma is good, the BE100 is awesome and the 5150 sounds great very similar to the Mooer 5150 but it’s clearly not the same algorithm, they react and sound different.

You should ALWAYS list your signal chain so we know what we are hearing. You are sitting in front of a Mesa 4x12, is it coming out of that ? Is it all direct ? is it a blend ? Is it a camera mic picking it up in your room? I would suggest you list the signal chain in text on the screen at all times while you are playing so we know and can skip around and still know what we are hearing. Thanks

    Escuche ambos

Fun fact, Craddle of Filth uses the 005 with the Radar as their live rig ... calling the preamp unpolished sounds weird if a band of that level traded their big rigs for that, its not as if they can't choose what they play with.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@MarcAndreLevesque I agree, but also keep in mind that a band of that size (or really any touring act) has an incentive to keep their gear as minimal as possible. Less gear = more money for the band. Less labor setting up rigs, less weight in the trailer, less liability of something happens to said trailer. I'm sure, in part, their decision was based on this as well.

      @WholeLottaBulldog 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@MarcAndreLevesque for starters I know that CoF use them. Secondly, I said the ge200 is unpolished. Thirdly, bands have used modellers live since their inception; just because a band uses them live doesn't mean they're any good. Often it's size and convenience that's important to them. CoF is no different.

Randomly, I will throw on some vintage glass for shits and giggles. If you notice on my last viewer commentary, the picture was a bit different. No. You can't load custom IR's into the pedals directly, and my feeling is that MOST people are looking at direct comparisons.
You CAN however use it without the cab sim on, and use something like a radar to load a custom cab.

@@TaylorDanley that is very strange... i used to think that amp modeling technology is the same betwen the two, and the only difference would be cabinet emulation. I didnt think that micro preamps had an IR going on so i thought that ge200 would sound better...
Would be really intresting to hear them both with some aftermarket IRs

Those micro preamps sound like CRAP going through a power amp. The ge series sound like real amps tbh. Getting the preamp live soon;) hopefully it’ll sound great!

All i hear is SAND... Mooer doesn't sound good for my ear. Maybe you can make it better with EQ, but as it is it's not good.
