Dude you should know that your 005 video convinced me to one of those... Since you're a devoted EVH 5150 user, you are the most reliable ''source'' for checking this little thing. You know how the real thing works, sounds and reacts on stage, in studio or in a plain room so if the 005 convinced you, it will certainly convince me too. Great stuff man, keep it up!

I am a serious EVH Fan. In my opinion, it is the only tone for me!
The 005 is a GREAT little Preamp pedal and when used correctly can give you TONS of Bang for the Buck... and this thing isn't even very expensive! But you should also keep in mind, it may be a one trick pony. You're not going to get the full dynamic range of a real EVH Tube Amp from this pedal. But it will definitely get you close.
I do recommend using it with the built in IR Disabled. The IR is the only downside of this pedal.
If you're running this pedal into the FX Return of an Amp you'll need to do this anyway.

Rad. Sounded pretty convincing to me, specially live like you said. I use to have a block letter 5150, which I severely miss and have been wanting a evh3 for a while now. I’ll have to grab this pedal and run it thru my 800. New sub. Cheers bro

Sounds very very close to the real amp. A little colder and with less bottom end... but man look at the price tag. What a time to be a musician.

I love this pedal in my setup. Guitar into an ISP Deci-mate - Mini Ibanez Tube Screamer - MOOER 005. Through the effects loop 1 on my Boss MS-3 multi effect switcher with some added delay and volume for solos and the MS-3 on board noise gate after the loop. Then into a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170, to an Avatar 4x12 with 2 V30's and 2 G12T75's. It's crushing. Been using this as my main live setup for a couple years now. Great video

You can get away with a lot when you have the reinforcement of a venue’s PA System.
Its all about the Cab Sim in my opinion.. it can easily make or break that “direct” tone. Its worth keeping that in mind as you build your rig!

@@MadManMusic I use a Kemper and a helix. And use a variety of gear in the endless quest for tones and that guitar sound in my head. And after experimenting with them for years. The I.r is the key and one of the most overlooked and misunderstood parts of these units. going back to the original pod 2.0. The cab sim was the weakest link. Have you tried using a third party I.r with something that’s over 20 years old? It’s imo, actually pretty mental how good it sounds. Ola Englund done a vid a while back, it’s scary to see how important the I.r/cab sim is. Personally and for pure selfish reasons ( it’s an honest program lol) I want to see the old pod 2.0 with the Mad Man I.r… ps I bought the sonicake aby pedal.. very handy little piece of gear. I use your cab mic trick for live stuff. Great idea man..

Someone eventually pointed out to me that I could just use the “Preamp Out” from my amp.. 🤦🏻♂️ So now I have X’d the ABY in lieu of that. But its still the same concept.
And you’re so right about the importance of IRs! Thats why I made mine! Firstly, I was just curious if I could make my own, and Secondly, I just wasnt getting what I wanted out of other IRs.
I wanted it to sound like what my gear actually sounded like while ALSO working well in a mix and not having to process the signal too much.
I have been using my IR in my Kemper Power Rack for about a year now and it has sound better “to me” than anything else. BUT it was missing a little bit of upper mids…. So I have been tinkering with a Nasty Cab 2.0. One cab to rule all of my gear! 😆
Anywho.. yeah, getting into old gear mixed with modern tech like IRs could really be interesting!

Technically, You wouldnt want to use it that way. The FX Loop is a way for using “Pre-Amp” pedals like this..
When you run this into the front of an amp (Clean Channel) you’ll have Gain Staging and EQ happening “after” the Pre-Amp Pedal’s signal.. so those two things will drastically effect the sound of the pedal. Which you dont want.
In the FX Loop Return, you’ve bypassed the amps build in Pre-Amp and you’re sending signal directly into the power section. So its the cleanest possible signal.
That’s where the Pedal can work its magic!

Using this one and the Mooer Gas Station 001 thru FOH for live gigging and sounds ridiculously great. I do admit it can sound even better with an indiependent cab sim pedal sucha as the Mooer Radar which i'm getting very soon. It will make a lot of difference...but technically that's for live gigging and recording if guitar players don't have any budget anymore at all like myself. used to have all the greatest high end high gain real amps and cabs in the world but those days are over for me..
I still love me a nice “All Natural” Tube Amp. Pro-Pain I probably wont get away from using one on stage. BUT i really love how great these little portable pedals are sounding these days! Its insane!
Lately, I’ve been working on a live set for my project “Aphelion” and my bassist and I are just using “in computer” amp sims!! No pedals, No Amp… nothing. Just plugging direct into the audio interface and pedal to the metal! Its been working great!

Yeah man! There are some really great options lately for amps sim! Its incredible.

Do you run both at the same time, or switching back and forth? Any DSP latency phase running both at the same time?

@@EasyHeat switching between the two pedals only. Running them same time might be overkill haha cuz too much saturation going. You can try off course but for myself it's gonna be too noisy, too dirty and not tight enough. I just want the two tones available in case i pref one for certain song. Cheers 👍👍

@@MadManMusic I’ve just ordered the Mooer 005. Actually, I have the Mooer 016 (you should try it), with a Flamma FS07 cab (you can run 2 different IR, one left one right, and change a latency on one…. OMfG 😱

You should try the FS07, it’s really good and stereo in / out, so you can play 2 guitars and use both one IR!

All amps have hiss. The actual EVH 5153 has tons of hiss. But as soon as the band starts to play, no one hears it anymore.

Seems like there was less 60 cycle hum when running into the converter,...was it?
I apologize, I didn't use a converter so I'm not sure what piece you mean specifically. But I live in Europe and I've noticed in some instances Hum can be a bit more noticeable than in other places.

I'm using 2 of them (only red mode) with a line selector: 011 (Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier) for chords and background riffs and the 015 (Peavey 5150) for solos and main riffs, then they go into the Mooer Baby Bomb (not really super happy about this last one, but is more than ok) 😃 byeee from Italy 😉

I have a Kemper Power Rack and even it lacks a but if the OOMPH.. but that sound is really only present when you’re standing in front of an amp.
What the audience hears is what went through a Mic, then a Mixing Console, then then PA Speakers… so.. they hear what you’re producing now out of your setup. (Basically).
In some ways this is more helpful in a live situation than the real thing 🤷🏻♂️

I've been seriously sleeping on these micro preamps. Currently living the apartment lease dweller lifestyle, which means I've also been mainly riffing within the box with plugins through my DAW and near field monitors.
These tiny things sound just too good to pass up IMO. Thinking about nabbing up several to be honest.
I'm interested in seeing if it's potentially possible to simultaneously run two of these little monsters via an ABY splitter without too much potential DSP round trip latency phasing issues between them. If so?! That would be rad AF IMO!
I've always wanted a convincingly affordable sounding AC30/Dual Rect wet/dry Grohl fanboy rig option without being tethered to a freakin' PC or iOS device. Hell, for the price these are currently going for?! I'd even be 7empted to Pushit with BOSS DD7 drenched emulations of a Deizel VH4/Marshall dual setup without blowing The Pot by spending ænormous $46&2! Ha!

Nothing wrong with trimming down. And working with a “beer budget” as opposed to champagne is important too cuz we’re all broke ass musicians! Thats why I will also favor showing more affordable stuff here than super expensive shit.
If you know what you’re doing, you can make ANYTHING sound good. So thats what’s important!

I A-B’d it with an actual EVH 5153 and it was shockingly close. Not exactly the same but really convincing!
Just be sure to disable the built in Cab IR. This is important.

Well use an IR if you’re recording with it directly but not if you’re using it in front of a power amp and cab.

Too many people hate on other peoples perspectives and preferences.
I think this like pedal sounds really good for what it is. And some of the coolest guitar tones come from “Unlikely” gear.

I bought the Harley Benton pedal and it came from Germany. Problem is they have it set up to run on 230 amps. We in the U.S. have 110 amp outlets. Did they send me the wrong pedal? Is there an American version? Please help! Thanks!

@@MadManMusic The funky one for 230 amps that you would use if you are in Germany. Just for the hell of it, I plugged in a power cord from my tube head and it didn’t work.
Yeah so I just checked out the Thomann USA site and there’s a large Warning that it only runs on 220-240v…

sounds so bad haha, i have both, the 015 its good buuuuut you need to dial a lot and put a overdrive before to make it sound "good", the 005 sounds amazing out of the box and doesnt need to boost

Hey! Thanks for the question! No I didn’t. Truthfully I try to avoid using Screamers when ever i can. I prefer to hold on to the amps warmth. Even in the case of this little guy!
