- In this video, "Gel Printing - Improving Prints” you will see me creating a gel print using wax crayon, oil pastel, corn flour and biro resist methods along side soft pastel image transfer. Incorporating image and text elements to create a contemporary street art style print.
To do this yourself, you will need a gel printing plate, acrylic paints, a brayer, and various resist materials. For this print, I have used biro, wax crayons, oil pastels, and corn flour, as well as a soft pastel pencil, acrylic paint, paint
brushes and a decent weight paper.
Creating a unique gel print using multiple resist methods is a fun and creative process that can result in a beautiful and striking fine art print. By incorporating text and image elements, you can create a contemporary street art style print that is truly unique. With a little bit of experimentation and creativity, the possibilities are endless.

This video doesn’t seem to be hitting the mark for most people, I reckon it could be to do with the length or the fact that I’m not changing the zoom/angle/ effect every two minutes likes everyone says you should do but I just like watching a video of someone doing something interesting in fact I personally find it quite annoying when the screen changes all the time! I guess I’m just old skool and find that my attention span doesn’t wander after 3seconds or more 🤣

Thank you. Yes this piece took me in a few directions. Initially I wasn’t happy like you saw, then changing the body made it work much more for me but since having had this print around half a year now looking back at it I’m not so sure I’m fully happy with the background anymore but I love the fact that I was able to push through and pull something reasonable.

Fabulous stuff! Can’t wait to receive my purchased plate to try your techniques. So far my DIY gel plates have only rendered statisfactory grungy backgrounds, no transfer techniques stick. Have you ever used Matt medium or binder diluted pva glue on your plate for transfers?

Thanks. I’ve not tried Matt medium or the ova solution but I’ve tried transferring inkjet and laser jet copies various times trying various ways but I just cannot get it to work so I’ve basically given up on that idea.

Wow, what a video. So good to see how you are layering. And wait overnight, that would be the hard bit for me. Inspiring… learned a lot again. I made some gelprints and then scanned them and did some extra’s in Indesign. After that ordered artprints of it.
Thanks. I generally put the paper onto the gel plate around midnight when I’m printing so I don’t have the time to wait a couple of hours, that’s probably the minimum I could leave it due to the amount of layers, before I could pull it. So I go to bed and then it’s ready in the morning.
I’m planning on getting some digital scans of my work to be able to sell too, at some point this year.
@@gelwithmark that's a good idea, leave it at midnight. It will be a gift or surprise 🤩in the morning. My prints are now in a gallery together with my paintings, as an experiment. I'm curious what people will think of it.

thanks for sharing your process! i was just wondering what you used for the mask as it didnt lift off any medium from the plate.
If it was white? It’s basically a low tac children’s art paper that I bought on Amazon.

@@gelwithmark at 11:30 when you use a mask to create a circle around the cats head. i was wondering why the paper mask you used didnt pull off any of the ink under it
@@joshjoungyt because the acrylic was fully dry underneath. The acrylic has to be wet to adhere to paper to then be able to pull it off of the plate.
