Gel with Mark

Hi, Welcome to my channel “Gel With Mark”.
The idea behind this channel came about when I realised that there wasn’t a great deal of resource in regards to fine art style printing on the gel plate. I decided then to create this channel for YOU, to show that gel plate printing doesn’t have to be a tool just for crafters, YOU can achieve high standard and quality fine art prints with it too!
You will see me share various types of content, ranging from tutorials and demo’s, technique development through experimentation alongside how I go about my art process and thinking in general.
I hope to inspire YOU to try thinking “ outside of the box “ with your gel plate and turn your hand at creating something more than just “ backgrounds for journal pages or materials for collage “
So please SUBSCRIBE and follow along with me on my artistic discoveries!

Testing the Gelelf #gelliplate.
In this video I am test the Gelelf #gelliplate to see if they can perform as well as the normal American branded plates as an alternative option for gelli plate printing. I try many of the techniques that I use in my daily practice of gel plate printing and give you an honest, unbiased opinion of how I find using them. #gelplate #gelliplate #gelliplateprinting

This music is really good!
@@rhiannonseabolt9340 yes it’s a cool track.
Great cleaning video. The baby oil does the job.
@@allthumbs3792 glad it worked.
Thank you for sharing! It's so inspiring and I learn a lot from you. Amazing technique! Can I ask what kind of paper you've pulled the print with? I tried it with multimedia paper, but I think it is to thick. ( sorry for my English, not nativ language for me). ❤
Thanks. I also use multi media paper. Mine is by Canson - Imagine Mixed media paper 200gsm. Can I ask what issues you are having with the paper you have chosen?
It looks like you’re pulling the print straight away. Is that right or do you leave the paper on the Gelli plate for a while I’m a little confused, your print came out very well 👏👏👏
@@towardsthelight4919 yes it was left to dry over night.
Fantastic video Mark, really inspiring can’t wait to try this it opens up so many possibilities. You really explained it well .The silences are grand, and your voice is easy on the ears.Look forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I’m glad you have founds some value in what I’m sharing.
Very fun! I look forward to trying this. Also, I appreciate the general quiet tone of your video.
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Hallucinant !!!! C’est magnifique ! Grand merci!!!!!
Thanks
I noticed that Gelelf is using two images of your work on Temu, with your permission, I hope, as I didn't see any review attached to the images...
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I wasn’t aware of this.
@@gelwithmark You're very welcome. I love your work, and I find it very rude that a company would use it for plugging their product without your permission.
It’s being sorted, thanks again.
Lovely. If you spray your laser print with a light spray of picture varnish from art store ( the gloss one) it works like magic
Do you mean do you can use the laserjet print to transfer the image, how does the gloss spray allow that to happen?? Not sure I understand.
@@gelwithmark I found that my laser prints didn’t transfer well at all. So I used an old screenprinting trick to strengthen the toner. If you spray the laser print with a light spray of gloss picture varnish, it makes it work like a magazine transfer. It works really well and every time :).
Thanks for the tip. I’ll give it a try.
I tried the picture varnish but still could make the print transfer, can you elaborate on the process a bit more? so I can figure out if I’m doing anything wrong.

I like the quiet times , it gives me time to process my thoughts! Fabulous video. Thanks 🎉
Thanks. Glad you found it useful.
You're wearing orange, with bricks behind you and I could have sworn you said, "Hi there, and welcome to another episode of Jail With Mark!". Ha ha!
🤣 that would have been an interesting art video!
I love your video !!! That is so great easy ... and I didnt had this idea by my self... 😢😂❤
Thanks, glad you like it. 👍🏻
Fab work. How do you clean the gel pad when you are finished?
Thanks. If it’s needed I use mineral oil. I’ve done a short video on it here ⬇️ th-cam.com/video/ozBZqSvqlT0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HywJIA4HgLfVfGOc

Great as always
Thanks
It looks great! Thanks for sharing. BTW - it almost looks like a poster for cluster headaches!
Thanks. Yea I can see what you mean.
Wow, that is amazing
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Great video and technique. Thank you. May I suggest you get an even coat on your brayer first and apply paint that way.
Thanks. I’ll give it a try.
Very Very cool!
Thanks
Thanks!
Ah thank you that’s very kind.
Great new channell abd inspiring tutorial
Thanks glad you like it.
Wonderful work! 👏👏👏
Thanks
Cool, thanks mark
👍🏻
great video, thanks Mark. i'd really like to know what paper you used at the end of the video to store your plate? it was hard to hear and I've been quite confused between watching so many different videos (not yours) suggesting different storage suggestions?
I just use normal copier paper. I put a piece on either side of the plate and then put the plates back into my clam shells they came in.
Thank you so much, I don't really like the magazine transfer, I want to give my transfers a more personal style. So your method is perfect! Thanks again!
Yes I’m totally the same as you in regards to the transfers. You don’t have to use tracing paper either you can use normal paper too, it gives you much more scope for varying the tonal values. Enjoy.
I love how you have mastered the ability to do the backward thought process of your desired result. Thanks for sharing your process.
Thanks for the comment
Really excellent instruction . SOOOO exciting to see the reveal !
Thanks. This was a fun one to do.
Will try this but I think my first attempt should be simpler? Am I just being nervous?? 😳
No, start off with whatever you feel comfortable with and then progress as you get a hang of it.
WoW ! Love your playing ! I will give it a go ! thank you for your inspirations :)
Thanks
Love how the two prints turned out! What material did you use to trace the figure? It seemed to stick really well to the gelli block so I assumed it wasn’t regular tracing paper.
Thanks. Your right it is a thick acetate, like you would use on an overhead projector.
I'm wondering what type of pastels you used for this? Love this process.
They are just some basic cheap ones from Amazon . Inscribe I think is the brand name.
I love this process. What type of pastels did you use?
I'm going to go with the left. Throwing punchiness out the window, splat, it's a goner. Right. Why the left? There's a certain aesthetic that you stumble on from time to time. I can't define it or attribute it to any particular artist but you see it in between the 30's and 70's - perhaps the best description would be muted pop art. What I'm drawn to most by it is that you're not dazzled by the punch, be it bold bright colours, or omg contrast. Rather it's a delicate balance between subject, tone and colour. That left image does that for me and I feel the addition of the white worked really well. Thank you for this, it's going to make a huge difference in my own attempts.
Thank you for the time to put into the comment, I appreciate it.
Fantastic! a very helpful lesson. Great image.
Thank you
Thank you for showing us all the possibilities.
My pleasure, thanks for taking the time to watch.
Amazing thank you 🙏🏻 my plates are gleaming like new 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Cool, glad it worked.
@@gelwithmark it's like magic ✨
Fascinating
Thanks
Great video!
Thanks
Ok ty
Thanks so much!
My pleasure
Have you ever tried using fabric paints?
No sorry I haven’t I’m afraid.
This is fabulous, this is a really great new medium to add to my gel plate play, thanks Mark
Thanks. Hope you have fun playing with them.
don't apologize for the silences. your process, and you sharing it, close-up is enough.
Thanks
Amazing detailed explanation with so many hints and tips 👌🏻🙏🏻 Love the bit about forcing you to loosen up if you're someone that likes to be controlled. Looking forward to watching more. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you. Yes this piece took me in a few directions. Initially I wasn’t happy like you saw, then changing the body made it work much more for me but since having had this print around half a year now looking back at it I’m not so sure I’m fully happy with the background anymore but I love the fact that I was able to push through and pull something reasonable.
Wonderful class. Going to try my first gel print and your class is a big help!!
Thanks, glad you liked it.
You've floored me with this, Mark! Can't thank you enough for the share of what you've discovered.
No problem, hope you have some fun trying it! 🙂
Very cool!
Thanks
Amazing - so interesting ! Thanks heaps !
No problem, my pleasure.
BRILLIANT !!!!!!!
Thank you.
