i have been spraying for 30+ years started at 13yrs old building hotrods with my dad . owned my own bodyshop right outa technical school . custom restorations and cheep resprays.later on i was head sprayer at a large chevy dealership for several years. at 40 i was burnt out and couldn't stand going to work . haven't done but small carlot jobs for the last 4 years. i watch a few of your videos this week and i can say you reminded me how fun it was when i was younger and wanted to learn and be the best i could be. i am inspired to spray again. i am adding a bay to my home shop so i can dig all my tools and equipment out and learn more and start injoying spraying paint again. thank you .

That my friend is a comment that makes me feel like all the hard work I have put into this TH-cam channel is worth it, even if that's all that has ever came out of the whole thing, I feel like I have made a difference for the better. Thanks for leaving that comment mate.

Place I worked at went under the government seized accounts I was out of a job I started doing customer work 4 years ago so now at 65 I am in business I could work 7 days a week, and it's ending up like that. Picked up a few things from the gunman listen to what he says not what he does example I like the 110 air cap.

Hey man, I am currently working on rebuilding my 66 mustang and when looking up some informative videos on painting a car I stumbled across your channel. I am really loving it so far. Very informative, very straightforward, and all I can say is keep up the amazing work.
I spent two years painting interior pieces for cars and have never tried painting an exterior, and after watching a few videos like this that show a start to finish I feel like I have the abilities to just throw the paint myself. Thanks a lot man.

You're a wealth of information! Been painting for almost 40 years. Really like your audio translation of why you do or don't like one thing or another. I myself love it. I've found when I explain to much to a lot of folks they blend it all together. Being a sponge myself though, I watch every second and listen. Thank you very much for sharing your excellent work with some very well made videos! You rock !

There is a wealth of information in watching your technique, there is even more in everything you say. I have learned mad tips in listening to your commentary, many times I have done the classic "oooooooh" "now I get it". I have bought 2 new guns thanks to your reviews. Iwata lph400 and the DeVilbiss Tekna Prolite. I use the Iwata for clear and the Prolite for basecoat. I love them now that I learned what the knobs do and how to adjust them haha!. Thank you very much. Keep up the good work, the commentary and those videos coming.

Great vids Mate, very informative. I've made a bit of a "come back" to spraying after about 50 years away from it! I served an apprenticeship as a Coach painter when I left school in 1959 and afterwards spraying/coachwork. I left the paint game and became a Heavy Goods Driving Instructor until I retired. Your vids really bring home to me the use of two pack procedure compared with the cellulose methods I used back in the 50/60's. We in UK, (and EU I think), can only use cellulose to restore older cars as Two Pack requires too much equipment to use(safety) and as such I'm having to use it on a MGF and a Spartan kit car. Thanks for your great vids. Don.

Very helpfull video .I have learned heaps from your videos .This one being perfect for me .You have encouraged me to have a go . Your results off the gun are amazing .
I am retired from working and as such have time to carry out the respray of both my cars. They are basically straight but both old ,19 and 25 years old. The paint has chips and some car park dents but very good for the age .I plan to do all the preparation at home and hire a spray booth for the base and clear coats .
I last sprayed a car around 20 years ago using acrylic lacquer .
Anyone looking at a full respray should study this video. The uncut spraying procedure from 17:33 shows the best sequence to spray. I feel this is important. I have started practicing with a spray gun with a paint brush taped onto it ,to practice this. You have years of practice and your muscle memory is deeply ingrained . You ,like any top professional, make it look easy . For a novice to achieve acceptable results will take practice. I think if i hired a spray booth and just started spraying ,without lots and lots of practice ,the results would be disappointing for sure.I hope to be able to correct my spraying faults with cut and buff later .
I also understand your comment about long answers so i will try to ask questions that require short answers .
    1. If the spray booth has airflow from front to back, would you position the car with the front of the car at the front of the booth ,so that when you finish at the boot, the overspray is going to go away from the car?
    Thank you very much .

I do have one question that's bugging me. When you only do a respray with no bodywork at all. Do you sand down all the paint or just using a paint stripper?

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  9 ปีที่แล้ว

It depends on the kind of job the customer or owner wants, on full restorations yes its best to take all the paint off with paint stripper or sand/soda blast but an everyday respray on a late model car won't need that amount of stripping just a sand and paint.

I noticed the paint strainer caught that big piece of nasty from going in the clear gun. Phew!! The long vids seem to be getting a lot of support and I'm all for 'em too. Give us the Full Monte every time. Ha ha.
WOW!! I can really see how versatile the Pro-lite is. Your speeds are extremely varied. Heavy and slow on the hood (bonnet) and much faster on the sides. I am so impressed!! Looking forward to picking up my new Pro-Lite in the next month or so and giving it a run.
3 keys to success: Great pricing, Great product, and Great service. Seems you have it all.

Hi Gunman, thanks for the vids - you've given me some great tips! I'm very much a beginner, nearly completed repairing/spraying a bumper for car - its going very well with a show room finish. It's made me want to do the rest of my car cause I've over polished it, taking your advice "not to do the whole car in one shot as a weekend warrior in my garage" got me thinking about baking the paint as I usually do the base coat and clear and leave it a week before I buff/cut the clear on panels not attached to my car, I'll need to drive my freshly painted car home at the end of the day after its been painted... Is there a DIY way of baking the paint I guess with heat bulbs, any tips how to bake paint using a DIY way?

Hey Gunman,Just thought I would throw in a little info about what paint work costs in the US.I have a black 2000GT mustang with no rust anywhere and just 3 dings about the size of a penny on the whole car and some bug strikes to the front bumper bar that I covered with 3 coats of 2k primer and sanded out myself and the quote to paint my car with a nice new hood that only needed primer and blocking and me handing them a near perfect car was $5800 to $6800 US which I think is insane.I purchased all the supplies to do it myself for $650 to $700 and that was for quality materials and enough clear to flow coat the entire car which wasn't in that price,I'm glad with your help I decided to do it myself. With the speed I've seen you work I think you would have done my car in 5 or 6 days but it will have taken me twice that long to get it done only because I've taken my time and made the body as perfect as you can get it.If those three dings hadn't been on 3 seperate panels I probably wouldn't have decided to paint the entire car anyway,my car has been garage kept since new. This is just an idea of how much paint work costs in the US.Hell I didn't have a problem with 3 grand but twice that much when they can get a better deal on paint than I can just seemed high. Also I seriously doubt the quality of the paint work would have been like what you can do or maybe me.I'm ready for color & clear in the next couple days and I feel sure there will be a sense of pride when I drive my car now knowing I done the paint work myself.I Plan on leaving two fat black stripes on the road the first time I take it out,one for each of us since without your help with all my questions and your vids giving me the motivation to go paint some shit I wouldn't have done it myself. The 4.6 liter twin overhead cam V8 on a 150 shot of nitrous and a 5 speed will be will be eating some asphalt.I'll feel like your with me on that first ride,Thanks Gunman
