Back in the day people used to take pride in being able to fix things. No one had the money to go out and buy something new. When my father was growing up, him and his friends would keep spare parts from just about anything that was salvageable, so that they could help each out. I even enjoy a quick hike through the junkyard… it’s like going on an expedition. 🤣🤣Back then there were no big box stores to go too. He told me even if they did have the stores, they couldn’t afford to go and buy anything. As always Gunny I enjoy watching your videos!
I prefer the gopro on the head cam Gunny, its a more perspective type view and shows us what you see more up close and personal than the tripod which is just there. Doesn't really make me feel immersed into the video and kills the experience for me. Anyways thanks for another great upload as always.
I like this filming format tripod and close up. I guess it depends what you want to learn. I am well entertained but fully believe that repetition is the thing that embeds knowledge. So for me the more I see you complete any task the better I will remember. I did a couple of jobs on the drive at home and my masking and cleaning was of a better standard. The paint came out really well.
You're right Gunny, I hate seeing cars scraped simply because the clear is peeled off. I bought a badly clear stuffed car with good body and a written off parts car with a good motor 100k on the clock for parts. Swapped engines and other stuff and resprayed. It's beautiful now and will be a reliable car for many more years, probably cost me about 4.5k all up and a lot of hard work but I enjoy it. 👍
I like to clean my panels after prep, the same way as you did here. I find it really cleans well and may even help with static. Maybe that’s just the water clean though.
here in the states bodymen usually prime and block their work before sending it to the painter. The painters have it pretty easy they just do a quick sand, tape and paint, we used to do it the way you are doing it back in the 90s but it was always a argument between the painter and bodyman because the painter was never happy with the bodywork, making the bodyman prime and block holds him accountable for making it straight.
Yes, 4K using a tripod. After watching many of your videos I'm painting my Factory Five 33 Hotrod. I'm using PPG Deltron with the DeVilbiss FLG5 gun you recommend.
Mate...loving all the vids lately...you are the reason I paint my own builds at home... that trick with the fine line tape on the Nissan Juke, ..brillant !!!... last one I did was a Focus ST in Oxford white....turned out awesome with your blending tips... cheers....Johnny
Good job mate I'm going to get My F6 typhoon resprayed next year but it has quite a bit of Rust as I used to live near the beach a lot of repair shop don't want to do Rust work. I am fusy though as my F6 typhoon is bionic blue and want the job done properly
Enjoying the video as usual and great way to start off my Friday. I can tell you that with enviro if you the g shade either wow or mixed in base, it will help with faster coverage (most cases) & start checking the viscosity of your base (23 secs w/din4 cup) your dry time will improve and color lay down will be better. Have great weekend.👍
Looks very nice Gunny and I love that colour but for some reason it doesn't come up on my scheme 🤷♂️ I prefer the headcam view mate as you can see in more detail what you are doing, I just think you can learn more from seeing you paint, sand and lay the clear but it makes a change to use the tripod now and then 👍 John UK.
Stupid question, but you mention running like 25psi, my paint is 2 to 1 but states 50 psi to spray. Why the difference in psi? I'm not a pro at this stuff, just learning.
Awesome work! I’ve been a fan for a while! I was wondering is there a better color to spray down, before I shoot a blue Metallic paint? I have a medium sized 2 door car that will need a full spray. It’s currently in grey primer. Would a solid white or gold make the blue pop more? I have several quarts of white left from my other car, but didn’t know if it would cause bad reactions.
Hi mate. Enjoying the vids and trying to learn before having a crack at my old EL thats worth nothing. Always wanted to learn it so a 500 dollar car to learn on works for me. 2 questions from this video: 1)Why 500 on the primed surfaces and 320 on the exististing painted surfaces? 2) why were the whole sides and bonnet hi filled and not just the repaired areas? Cheers mate loving the videos
Looks great! I agree it's a throwaway society, but unless a car is a classic or has sentimental value, few people are likely to spend more than the car is worth on non-essential paintwork repairs.
I know, I know, the whole system is not built around sustainability. Capitalism brings prices down, sometimes too low. I definitely don't have all the answers
Hell yea brother. Killing it on the big jobs. Bin busy as just catching on few vids. Style of video feels fresh n new. Awesome content as usual mate. 🤙🤘
I'm currently looking at doing this to my Falcon Ute, unfortunately this colour wasn't available for my model so I'm planning on a closed door colour change from black to this, I figure if there was any colour you could get away with switching from with a closed door only, it would be black... Any idea on a ballpark price >$5k
I've been doing this for years. I've gotten to the point noise, noise driving me nuts. It's fine when I'm doing it lol. But someone grinding or blowing parts and cars off seemingly not needed bugs the shit outta me.
Nice video, really appreciate you posting the specs and grits etc as you go along. Was wondering if you can recommend anyone in Sydney to do some paint work to a similar standard as you do in your videos? I want to spray 2K but dont think its a good idea in my garage so happy to pay a pro to do it. Thanks
Hey mate - what does a full respray on a car like this cost? I want to get my FG done soon. It's currently silhouette (Black) and would like to go another colour but I'm a complete novice when it comes to costs and work involved in something like this. Cheers!
I don't even know what that is. But whatever compressor you have will have a CFM or LPM rating, cross reference that with the specs of the gun you plan to use and you have your answer.
What is your opinion on the dura block I would of thought you would of got the dura block be interesting to hear your review on the blocks ?as for the camera The first thing I notice that the picture looks really clear than usually much better but that's just my opinion stay safe gunman
Nice work Gunny 💪 My FGXR6 has really shitty base coat coverage from factory under the bonnet rear lip near the plenum - its got spotty surface rust all the way from one side to the other. Pisses me off. I was imagining this was my car u was painting😂
Personally I prefer the head cam its the painters eye view (almost). As far as colours go in the UK all colours are solid colours 90% of the time because there is not enough sun to see the metallic or pearl paint. You would hate it here mate.
I would say virtually all paint in the UK is metallic or clear-coated. Direct gloss was quite common in the past, but you no longer see faded red Vauxhalls!
@@TheGunmanChannel Many thanks for sharing your videos! I just resprayed my mitsubishi 380 and kept a log of time spent. It took me about 80 hours from start (disassembly) to finish (reassembly). Just curious to get an indicator of how long this XR Job took?
oks great your right gunny so much waste theses days rather than fixing things i prefer to fix things rather than just buy another eventually i\ll clean up my 20 year old car i drive as a daily still runs good i just cant justify spending on a newer car

Very sad to see his vehicle just sitting there. Lastnight I talked to him and he told me he got COVID-19 poor barstard. He's good man.
Your not paid flat rate are you? In the states the painter would never get paid to fix dents or remove glue. Just asking out of curiosity. No Malice Intended
To avoid all that sealer overspray in the jams we use transition tape , 3m makes it and it really does a good job . Or you can double false edge mask right on the edge . Do it where you can pull the tape off. I like to seal all repairs just as cheap insurance for coverage and one Last line of defense if there is a sending scratch missed. Hope this helps
I notice you wear expensive respirators. Do you not know normal cheap disposable n95 masks do a better job. If they can keep viruses out they sure as hell can keep spray paint out

Love seeing full resprays.
Very informative, thanks. I like the tripod + headcam combination actually. That first coat already seemed to cover very uniformly.

I always wonder why does the second coat lay down so dry is it normal?
That color is amazing
What difference would black or grey primer make under a Nissan pearl green, looks like factory was a black primer,
It would definitely help you use less colour

Nice vid mate. Plenty of detail and technical specs. What part of Australia are you in? Respect for Penrith👍
This is what I needed to see. I’m about to respray my motorcycle.
Am I going to be able to do it with just a pancake compressor?
No
Very unlikely as it has no volume of air
I don't even know what that is. But whatever compressor you have will have a CFM or LPM rating, cross reference that with the specs of the gun you plan to use and you have your answer.
Hey gunnie how do you stop the new coat from reacting with previous coating? What steps do you take?
This is waterborne so it's pretty safe going over old paint.
