    Thx for the video. Please make a video on how do you connect the testing equipment for injector leaking and how do you change a leaking fuel injector with coding. Or maybe you have already?

    Very interesting to hear about what can happen if you don’t code the injectors in, I just bought a MK4 UFBA and it has that pincking noise only on acceleration. I will have to check all the injectors are coded because I think someone has been playing with the injectors! I love your videos by the way, great sense of humour 🙂

  • @DavidB-rx3km
    @DavidB-rx3km 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The code on the top of the injector is the code for the flow rate it has been manufactured to. There are very minute differences probably, but the big pressures of diesel injectors might be obvious when running the engine.

    • @martinhardy3932
      @martinhardy3932 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The coding allows for individual unit correction of injection quantity vs energisation pulse width and also it also compensates the timing of the injection. This is required to accommodate the manufacturing tolerances of the injector nozzle flow rate but also for part-to-part variations in the control valve performance. Without entering the correct code the most obvious fault would be a timing error ('pinking') , rough idle and generally poor cylinder balance.

    Interesting on the same injectors i had a Huntingdon taxi on the storm day from Huntingdon to London due to a garden shed , & a trampoline on the railway line .
    It was a Vauxhall minibus , the driver told me they took a Mondeo to two Ford dealers one locally & the other in Sheffield.
    Ended up with two large bills.
    The fault returned , he contacted you sorted it in minutes , a faulty injector .
    I can not remember the name of the company .

    Hi Alan, my 2.0 duratorq mk4 goes into limp and sometimes shuts down (battery and oil light) while driving around 2000rpm. Won’t do it on light throttle or idle, there’s always air bubbles in the supply line to the pump but I can rev it to 3500 in idle no dramas n starts every time. Code iv got is P1169 high pressure in range
    Small leak and large leak codes were set also,
    Wud you recommend do a leak off test for blocked injectors or perhaps it’s a fuel leak causing my car to limp n shut down?
    Not sure if there’s a leak in my fuel lines or housings, I can’t get bubbles out no matter how many times I suck fuel thru manually and I have replaced the fuel filter and Oring seal and all looks sealed. I have an air compressor might blow air thru the lines to check for leaks
    You know a lot about these cars I’d appreciate it if you can offer some advice
    Cheers Alan

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  ปีที่แล้ว

      hi kiwi, there is a very high chance you have one or more of your fuel injectors leaking too much fuel off to the tank causing low pressure in your fuel rail which is why you get limp mode when you put your foot down, so I would do a leak off test and replace the faulty injectors and also replace the leak off pipes which can suck in air when the seals get old

    Had the p2000 code pop up randomly every so often for over 70,000 miles on my 2015 2.0 tdci.
    Sometimes it brought the engine management light on but mostly it didn't.
    The car ran fine and I was never able to find the issue causing it.
    Would be interested to know if you've rectified the fault causing the code on any of your Mondeo's.
    Was it related to the leak off issue primarily that you have described.

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not had an engine that would not start due to badly leaking off injectors but certainly a few that cranked over a fair bit before they started

    • @jothain
      @jothain 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alan4x Thank for correcting my assumption. I don’t actually know where I’ve gotten the idea. I think I’ve just thought that pump couldn’t create enough pressure during cranking to start. Though I guess I’ve been somewhat on point if it indeed still effects starting.

    So I did this test on my e46 330d last night after the DDE light came on, diagnostic also says low fuel rail pressure. All 6 injectors filled up almost as fast as that one! 50 seconds gave me between 40 and 60ml in each. I take it they all need replacing?

    Hi mate had the same on my bmw 320d one was leaking back too much , same thing 6th gear boot and would go into limp mode , changed one injector but which leaked about the same rate but changed one and run the car up was fine for a short time to find the fuel pump was running all the time and then it fount the next weakest I believe which then was leaking off just as fast , cars on 175k and just brought a full set of reconditioned injectors so hopefully that sorts the issue ? Fuel pumps always humming atm so hopefully this resolves the issue when I fit them

    • @khalidacosta7133
      @khalidacosta7133 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Modern petrols are just as bad with high pressure fuel pumps and injectors. Newest petrols have particulate filters too. Only reason you see diesels fail more is because people only buy a diesel to do a lot of miles in, so driven more, they'll generally have faults more often.

    Hello Alan ! Wow , talk about a rich condition , that is almost scary . Not sure whether a hydrolock condition can come from that but it’s certainly not normal and very extreme , to say the least . Diesel fuel is a better lubricant than gasoline ( petrol ) but I really don’t think it’s welcome at that rate in a combustion chamber . I’ve never worked on electronic diesel injection , know just basics if that of them , but I’ll say that is a condition that was caught in a nick of time . If it weren’t for computer diagnostics setting a DTC , only a trained ear would catch that I would think . Lord knows if the hired drivers would care or not but I’m guessing a vehicle condition report will be filled out and fuel consumption report would catch it as well if it weren’t for the check engine light . Last time I had my hands on any Diesel engine ,,and I wasn’t a diesel mechanic , was in my late teens working in a salvage yard . Never on the trucks ( lorries ) but the pay loaders as general maintenance . We weren’t allowed to wrench on them , they called in the Pro’s on them . If ever diesels catch on here in the US ( doubtful ) , I’ll have a bit more of a clue from watching your channel . Although I’m to some degree more petrol engine experienced , I wouldn’t mind of diesels came in our cars . The fuel prices will never allow that nowadays though . Yeah , let’s go Brandon . Nice one corn pop joe . He’s worn out his welcome in the UK , I’d imagine . Well , thank you sir for another lesson . Always welcome !

I'd say that's quite well for modern diesel. Sure, I'm not expecting it to last for long anymore, but I don't care. Car doesn't have any value at all anymore anyway
