  • Carrying out a D.I.Y diesel injector leak off on Kenny's Ford Mondeo ST TDCi 2.2.

Both the 2.0 & 2.2 Ford TDCi engines are renowned for jnjector issues. With symptoms such as smoke on start-up & a slight miss every so often, Kenny thought this would be a great place to start the diagnosis.
We carry out the D.I.Y leak off test following Delphi's instructions, step by step. Although this isn't specifically an instructional guide, we do run through all the information you need to carry out this simple test yourself, at home.
We managed to get some great feedback from the results courtesy of the Mondeo ST Owner's Club on Facebook too.
Stay tuned for the same test on my (Drew's) Jaguar X-Type (which shares the same 2.0 TDCi as the a standard Mk3 Ford Mondeo)

Delphi injector leak off pipe procedure:
    - Run engine up to operating temperature
    - Attach leak off kit to vehicle leak off pipes
    - Let engine idle for 2 minutes
    - Hold revs steady at 3,800rpm for 30 seconds
    - Let engine idle for 30 seconds
    - Hold revs steady at 3,800rpm for 30 seconds
    - Let engine idle for 30 seconds
    - Hold revs steady at 3,800rpm for 30 seconds
    - Let engine idle for 30 seconds
    - Hold revs steady at 3,800rpm for 30 seconds
    - Let engine idle for 30 seconds
    - Shut engine off
    - Check how much fluid is in each container
Allow 25ml of fuel for every minute of vehicle running, totalling 125ml of fuel to be within tolerance.
    25ml x 5 minutes = 125ml (within tolerance)

More than likely egr . I had mine deleted and put blanking plate on . Runs so much better . Doesn't cut out and starts amazing now on my 2011 Mondeo

Yeh, I think that's the next port of call for sure Gav. Mine was clogged like crazy! So cleaned it out and blocked it off like you have.

Could be the turbo carbonend up the turbo arm what opens it was slightly restricted on my turbo and was causing the coil light flash so I drilled the turbo tapped it out used mr mussel oven cleaner sprayed it in withheld the arm on turbo till it worked loose then poy a washer and screw in the hole takes a few mins get car start up again till it blows the crap out the turbo then egr valve was no gud so orderd a mew one off ebay 50 quid it's working a lot better now and pulls well also i would also check your boost pipes as if split can have the same issue

That smoking is likely a tiny pinhole in a boost pipe. The one under the egr valve is the common culprit.
Came here as im testing the injectors on my 2.0 jag... pretty sure if got 2 faulty injectors 😢

Had this same issue on mine for a long time. Even with a blanked EGR kit (egr completely removed and piece of pipe in its place) it made no difference so I don’t think it will be that. I always assumed injectors/injector seals leaking a little fuel which then burns off on start up but I don’t think I’ve ever found out the 100% answer.

That's not a good sign then lol
I'm wondering if it's worth removing the Injectors and cleaning them (with an injector cleaning machine)

God I hate seeing that awful green factory at bottom of the hill 🤣 no idea why it's smoking like it is, clogged dpf would be my guess but what I know about diesel engines you can write on a stamp. Really interesting video lads

😂😂😂 I'll blur it out next time dude!
I thought it may be DPF, luckily the 2.0 (my one) didn't come with a DPF 👌 lol
      😂😂😂 on a stamp, I like that!
Thanks for the support as always man! 🙏

Just checked my 1.5 a180 D and got the same. It only smokes when cold and lumpy. Runs perfect when hot.
Did you find what your issue was ?
Thanks guys. Great video and banta!

Smoke could be the fuel rail pressure sensor faulty.

Maybe a EGR value issue Kenny and Drew 🤔 interesting video lads thanks John 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Only in the Valleys 😂😂😂🐑🐑🐑🐑

Yeh, I think EGR is the next port of call (and the cheapest) and go from there.
Appreciate the support as always man! 🙏
