  • "Intent" is Oticon's latest flagship hearing aid. It features a fully-redesigned exterior and a new chip, which Oticon claims enhances speech clarity in background noise through improved deep neural network ("DNN 2.0") technology. It also includes More Sound Intelligence 3.0 for better noise reduction and introduces 4D sensor technology for adaptive sound settings based on the wearer's movement and environment, aiming for improved speech comprehension. Additionally, Oticon addresses past connectivity issues by incorporating LE Audio for broader and more efficient audio streaming in public spaces, alongside maintaining a built-in telecoil. Rechargeability has also been improved with a faster charging time, though the ability to replace rechargeable batteries on-site has been removed.

Agreed, and it makes me wonder just how well sorted this new technology is - the Companion app is completely useless to the extent that I've binned mine and use the Apple assistive app on my phone - it near enough does the same things, and it works. My Opn's are 5 years old and I'm looking around for replacements, but I'm seriously jaded by Oticon's failure to manage such a simple, but critical, part of the set up.

Thanks, this is really interesting. As a totally blind hearing aid user, I have to be honest and say I'm so totally sick of hearing aid makers trying to tell me what they think is important to me in what I want to listen to. I want to hear all noise as a blind person, that's how I see the world around me if you will :) what I'd love, is analogue type sound, but with the flexibility to equalise different frequency bandds. This is not currently something any hearing aid offers to my knowledge, they're all so obsessed with compressing this, upping that, canceling echo, removing noise, moving sound around you etc. I'm sure if you took all that out, what you'd get left with is smooth, faster les delayed sound but with the ability to amplify certain bands that users have lost. Alas though I realise I'm the minority voice here :)

I can't get on with Intents, gone back to Reals. They are very different. Reals allow dormant parts of my brain to wake up ( eg, putting unwanted sounds in the background). The Intents do that for you, all very clever but my brain staying dormant left me feeling flat. Also clarity for me was very poor. Wires much better though, wish they'd make them for the Reals.
Lucky I've got a great audiologist.

    I wear Oticon Real 1.
    In order of most importance:
    1. Speech clarity in quiet room. I believe this is 100% achievable by the audiologist, by working their magic to hit the correct targets solely via the utilisation of the complex software of the manufacturer.
    2. Speech in noise clarity (Oticon are superb with this compared to Signia and Widex)
    3. Comfort (I find Widex form factor too uncomfortable cos it’s bulky and square edges on RIC version)
    4. Connectivity. Yes Oticon have been having issues with this. But it doesn’t bother me because my iPhone doesn’t ever fail to automatically connect despite the app. The app I heard is getting an upgrade in any case as of today.
    5. I personally will try my hardest to get 312, because I keep Shabbat, and I just prefer slotting in fresh batteries when my old ones die. I don’t like the extra hassle of having to recharge them every night. What if I’m on a 14 day excursion with no elec?!

I’ve been wearing hearing aids for 5 years now - my hearing got to the point that HAs became a necessity, if I had interest in leading a social life. In those 5 years I’ve learned to live with them, but I still hate them as much as I did on day one. All your points are important, the order just shifts throughout the day in different environments. You list cosmetics, but did not list comfort or ergonomics which I feel should be #1 on anyone’s list. If they aren’t comfortable work with your glasses, mask or whatever they will not be used. Hearing in background noise has to be everyone’s biggest challenge because in most cases you cannot control your position within such environments and a computer cannot decide for you what you personally value as most important to hear.

  • @ash.hunter
    @ash.hunter 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Clarity, but not just speech...
Might be my own unique case, but as I only have to correct one ear - and in that one only above 4k really - high on my priority list is that I want all sounds of the world (music, nature, people, TV, etc) restored in that ear, to match the good one as best as is possible!
But of course do kick in with a bit of extra help in really challenging environments, if I need it, thanks. 👍
Demant technology seems to do what I want very well indeed. (Philips wearer here)

I'm on marlet for new aids, so your review is very timely. Yes, speech is the prime need, but I would add speech during cell phone handling. I hear well in my hearing aids BUT the aids mic send a lot of unwanted noise the phone partner. My ideal, listen with aids and use mic on phone. Then you look normal when taking a call.

Nice idea with the AI, if it works as intended. As for BT, I use often for tv, phone, youtube, video, audiobooks, online education on phone + ipad + ipad + boox + 2 tv sets, so it must work flawlessly on multiple devices. Also, I do NOT want rechargeable hearing aids...I prefer replacing batteries myself bcs they are in from 6am to midnight and it is easier to just swap out a dead battery, plus I don't deal with decaying rechargeable battery life.

Ihave a Philips brand that I got in early Jan 24. My research indicates that it is very similar if not identical to Oticon's premier brands as they are made by the same manufacturer. My wish is that I could have at minimum an 8 band parabolic equalizer on my phone to be able to tweek it better than the 3 band EQ on the app. I am an old sound tech guy and just want a bit more control to be able to make the sound a tad bit better..... I suspect I understand why they don't do it, but for someone who understands EQ, Compression etc. I yearn for greater control. But I do see how the average bloke would screw this all up.

Intents do that for you so brain stays dormant. Gone back to Reals and much happier.

While the 4D sensor technology & DNN 2.0 are promising I am always a bit skeptical about the marketing hype that the manufacturers employ. Regardless, I feel Oticon have taken a major step backward with the new shorter, yet thicker form factor. Personally, if addition space were required for the new technology I would have voted for just the opposite - thinner and longer, similar to the Signia Styletto.
