I used to play this plane in Arcade by itself, because it has a 4.3 br in arcade, lowered to 4.0 by being brought alone. Even with all the simplifications, buffs to performance, and air spawns, it was still seal clubbing with the thing.
Just remember, if you're having a bad game, it could be worse. You could be in a bf 109-f2 fighting a full up tier again a bearcat.
Nowhere near as sealclubbing as the 109F-4 in arcade. That plane is the cancer of 4.0 AB. The bearcat really gets held back by its forepower in AB unless you take the pods

If you're willing to use MEC the engine overheating is a non-issue. 75% for both radiators, 85% prop pitch, 90% mixture and your engine will stay cool for most of the game. First supercharger gear switch is 800m.
@@Brazmannslittlegamingcorner Naval, american planes tend to have a really low gear switch altitude for 1st stage, Shockingly the aircraft carriers tend to be placed at sea level in 100% of cases.

Everytime I switch to MEC my plane immediately downshifts and I lose power
@RyanG-ij8xq probably has something to do with prop pitch. If your aircraft doesn't have auto prop pitch, it defaults to 50% prop pitch, meaning only about half of your overall thrust. Or it's a supercharger gear issue, but that usually only happens at high altitude.
You can do 99% all the time in this and the 1-b not overheat. I find that way better than playing with temp all game.
At first (even after the BR decrease to 5.0) I hated flying this plane for the reason you mentioned in the video… but, I gave it chance, leveled up the crew and holy crap, I LOVE this plane! It is an absolute beast of a plane at 5.0. The climb rate, the speed, acceleration are incredible at 5.0 to say the least. Yes the guns suck, but you do have the option to run APT-I belts with this thing, so you’ll create fires like no other.

I do find the lack of energy retention useful cause it makes it easier to stay on someone's six whenever they decide to slow down and try to reverse me. But I'm sure, at that point, I'm not playing the F8F correctly. But it is still useful when I accidentally get into those types of situations.
I have the worst time flying the bearcat, it's good but man that handling gets me every time and I burn the engine up pretty reliably to boot, i'll take my P-51D-30 every time
Today I changed some key binds so I could get more control from keys with just my left hand, and ive accidentally pitched into the ground maybe 50-60 times, so thank you for crashing into that spitfire even the best mess up, though maybe not 60 times in a row albeit

That spitfire near the end was almost certainly a bot. They’ve been an absolute plague since the rebellion in June.

So let's take the most powerful engine we have (almost). And stick it on a Wildcat (almost).
It's a bit of an odd one. Short stubby wings + a powerful engine --> plane likes to roll FAST if you touch the throttle at low speeds. Reminder: this thing was carrier based.
It was also prone to ripping off it's wingtips. So they added explosives so the pilot can explodify them in case one ripped. Cause again, this thing likes turn roll.
This stuff is not made up btw.

I love the f8f. I usually use it in ground realistic battles and can always win my fights with it. It carries a boatload of bombs and can outclimb and out accelerate any plane on the deck.

I found you can get the engine to stay fine for a surprisingly long time at 50% rads and 75-85% prop pitch. Think mixture was at 80% and supercharger stage 2 except when going at top speed on the deck. Its been at least a year since I played so that might not work anymore.
This plane's a sitting duck against A6M5s if the pilot does anything other than BnZ, which I've noticed happens way more than it should
Every plane is a sitting duck against the A6M5 if it has a bad pilot. If it has anything better than a bad pilot the A6M5 is a sitting duck. This is why the A6M5 is considered a bad plane and is called an idiot tax by good players. It is only good if the opposing player is bad. Sure, a majority of the players in game are bad but that doesn't mean that the A6M5 is itself good.
@@rainsilent True. Against good players, rare as they may be, I'm mostly relegated to evasive maneuvers and being a distraction until someone faster can take care of whoever's harassing me. Anyone who's good at maintaining high speeds in engagements with the A6M is untouchable, and anyone in an A6M familiar enough with its performance in low speed maneuvers is untouchable
@@nitrocharge2404 The last part about A6Ms being untouchable isn't true. If you are at slow speeds you are basically turning in place. Combine that with predicting, or anticipating if the A6M player is very predictable, so that your guns are aimed in the direction that you think the A6M will go makes it very, very easy to land hits on an A6M.

I absolutely love this plane, just keep it at 85% throttle until you need the speed and you'll never over heat. This thing will out turn or out run virtually anything in its br
Pretty much. The F8F will test the player's knowledge on engine heat mechanics to make it a good aircraft.

@@heckingsnekdogeeah, but on the F8F you need to lower your throttle below 90% if you're flying for more than 15 minutes or so. That's just a bit uncommon for Warthunder, but the same applies for many other aircraft after 30 minutes if you aren't using MEC.

In my experience playing 5.0 (although as a German plane), you'll usually get at least one or two ju288 players, but you'll almost always have a well-balanced team and a decent balance of enemy brs.
Been missing your prop plane vids, top tier is fun for a bit but really a completely different game at this point. Would love to see you go back and revisit some of your older prop/low tier jet reviews, even if they haven't gotten any flight model changes alot of older planes are still affected by new matchmaking and new matchups in their br bracket.
MEC helps quite a lot with the engine temperature, really strong plane if you can manage not to see your engine combust

@@poliznia defyn actually made a guide on this with someone else! Go find that video! However, you need to set the key binds for switching controls and managing the engine settings. Defyn used the numpad and so do I. Someone here, and also in the comments of defyn’s f8f-1b video, has the MEC settings for flying this and keeping the temperature down and performance up.
Go find it (I’m too lazy to go see what I set it to and what he did) and watch the MEC video in defyns tutorials.

I am a fan of F8F but when I play F8F-1B there are bombers everywhere (I just hate BR 6-6.3). Those M3 being nerfed and killing bombers is just so frustrating. I've been skipping the F8F-1 before because not a fan of .50cal and is even worse if not taking the gun pods. But now I've watched your video and seems that F8F-1 is a bit more fun. Is it just because you're skill is way better than me or F8F-1 is indeed more fun because of the matchmaker?
Fr, I used to only use the -1B when I played and now I just use the P51H cause cause the 50s do more than the cannons half the time

So the F8F is really funny in the way that they have nerfed it. The F8F had the correct performance and overheat. IRL it struggled to overheat. Also this variant should be using M3 . 50 calls but whatever

The death cuts are just a Defyn trademark by now. Not to mension the Missile Jump Scare where the audio goes to 1000% before the cut
Wanna know why it has no energy retention? That's because on mouse aim it pulls 83% of its critical angle of attack, the highest of all prop planes in WT(maybe even of all planes). The average value for late war props is about 75%. On the other side we have Fw 190 and Ta 152, which pull only 61%, and F4U, which pulls 65%. This is how War Thunder artificially manipulates the maneuvrability and energy retention of planes in mouse aim.
Except these issues don't go away outside of mouse aim. Even with joystick they have the same limitations. These limitations are hard coded into the FMs. Gaijin has been artificially manipulating how much elevator planes can pull since WT was released. Historically the A7M had less high speed compression than the A6M. In game the A6M has less compression. Historically the A6Ms couldn't pull lead on a P-51 at 300mph. In game they have no problem out turning everything beyond 400mph.
@@rainsilent You can definitely pull more in realistic or full real control modes, even with just your mouse. In certain planes if you press your pitch up button for less than a second, the plane will stall, flip and (most likely) crash. That doesn't happen in mouse aim.
@@s_ziel Yes, you can pull more in a very, very brief instant but you can't sustain that pull. You can also do that very, very brief instant pull with mouse aim too if your hand and mouse can move quick enough.
@@rainsilent for example on F4U you can just hold the pitch up button and it will pull 80%, which is a vast improvement compared to 65% in mouse aim. This capability differs a lot from plane to plane, some planes (eg Fw 190) holding pitch up will make the kind of pull you mentioned, on others (eg Ta 152) the same will instantly stall the plane. To achieve most consistency better use a physical joystick (or a gamepad stick) and you can pull 80% on basically all planes.

Yup, fair assessment.
I definitely noticed the engine power in the vertical, but its energy generation isn't sufficient for all the speed it bleeds in sharp turns. Not to mention how you REALLY need MEC to have a decent time to begin with.
And of course there are the guns, but it's the big tradeoff you have for it to have a BR of 5.0, where it's climbrate and general performance is very good imo.
Overall, I personally like this thing, but I admit it's definitely got its flaws, god help you when you fight a Ta 152 H in a 1v1.
The F8F is a lot faster than a 152H and has a much better climb rate. It also has better high speed handling. Sure the 152H has a massive E-ret advantage and handles better at low speeds but that is all it has going for it. So long as the F8F plays to it's strengths it shouldn't have a hard time winning the fight.

@@rainsilent True, it is probably faster with a better climbrate (not so sure on the dive performance), but I think a seasoned Ta 152 H player can still put up a fight. Yes, the F8F has a better climbrate, but the Ta can run away and force the fight on their terms. Yes, the F8F is faster which gives it the option to run away, but you then limit yourself to the headon, which automatically reduces your advantage.
In a situation where the F8F has more kinetic and potential energy, sure, it will do well. That said, that's not particularly impressive seeing as you can say the same about many other planes.
Besides, there will be a lot of fights where you're forced into a low-speed engagement, and in that scenario the Ta dominates.
So, the F8F no doubt has its strengths, but I think the Ta 152 H won't have a "hard time" either, ESPECIALLY given the initial airspawn and consequential early-game impact.
@@Flayrr872 The 152H can't run away in any way shape or form at normal combat alts. The 152H is slower below 7km and has worse compression when diving. The F8F can do over 400mph on the deck under perma WEP conditions. The 152H doesn't break 400 until around 4.5km where the F8F is doing about 420 on WEP.
The only advantages the 152H holds are turn rate at slow speeds and MER. In a prolonged maneuvering fight the 152H will eventually win, and it won't take much prolonged fighting for that to start happening, but there are plenty of advantages the F8F can leverage before it gets to that point to beat a 152H. All things equal the 152H will have a harder time in a 1v1 fight unless it can sucker the F8F into a position the F8F shouldn't let itself be put into.
@@williewilson2250 Not immediately. The turn rates are similar until both get to slow speeds. This is where the MER of the 152H will dominate the F8F though.

Can you fly one of the razorback P-47s in the future? Some people say that they are too powerful for 3.7, but I can't really make any of them work in air RB.
Honestly, try playing them like you would an attacker aircraft sometime, rather than a traditional fighter. Probably one of the best ways to make your team win using a p47. Easier on the later p47s, though.
I prefer running on the 4x .50 cal. They are actually strong IMO. Used to have this armament on P-38 and P-51C.
The hanger says your engine makes 2.9k horsepower but the max it actually ever reaches is around 2.3k with WEP so according to hanger its missing 600 horsepower, rudder lockup is also a joke as it does not affect any planes outside of US tree. Also 85% prop pitch and full rads means no overheat. The problem is the flight model is borked to constantly make tons of drag needing the engine to overcome.

I used your supporter link to purchase a plane the other day, as i wanted your decal. I ended up having to pay an EXTRA £5 or something (ouch lmao), because it converted to the US store and i couldn’t get it to UK, so with the current exchange rate, i actually spent MORE money.
Anyway, i got a decal saying “Skill issue”. Is THAT your in-game decal? or is it supposed to be the Red on you have on your planes with your TH-cam logo?

My experience with this thing is *Engine* *Overheated*
Ok this video has finally cemented my opinion that the NA and EU War Thunder playerbases are VERY VERY different places... I loved the F8F-1 and F8F-1B, going 5:1 in the F8F-1 and 2:1 in the F8F-1B when spading them. I am an above average pilot, but by no means am I some kind of super ace.
The 1B was so much harder to spade because of the BR, the F8F-1 is a killing machine at 5.0, gunpods on or off it can work.

Didn't the F8F-2 get a weaker engine putting out 2300 hp, rather than the 2800 hp of the F8F-1?
Edit the -1 and -2 probably develop the same horse power figures at altitude, except at really low altitude where the -1 1st stage supercharger shines over the -2 variable speed supercharger.

D13 feels sweet as hell, the engine is great, the energy retention is great, and the flaps are amazing cause they don't rip until 700km/h. Only problem with it is being in ju288 range.

I love this plane, but the reason I don’t fly it is exactly the reason you named. The controls locking up and engine overheating is very annoying. Especially as an American main that usually plays the F4U, P-51, and P-47, it’s definitely a bit of a change for me.

Gaijin nerfed this plane too much. It was very good before. It doesn't make sense, the plane was really powerful in reality.
I just cant make this plane work, climbs like asscheeks becuase of the overheat, i get out run by 109s on the deck, out turned and out energied by everything else, cant catch anything, and run from anything, cant out maneuver anything since everything is always higher tham me. Every video i see about this plane says it has great climb rate, but I cant get to altitude faster than anyting german or british, and i cant seem to catch them in a line either. frankly, the f8f feels like a slower, hotter, and weaker p47.
i dont know what im doing wrong. I've tried side climbing, but by the time I hit 5k, my team is either dead or finishing off the last of the enemy team. my engine blows up the second i hit the wep, even if ive been cruising on 90% all game, and if I do ever end up in a good position above someone, they just dive to the deck and make me waste all my energy beofre going head on with a teammate or killing themselves. plus, its fragile, keyboard flying becomes difficult if you have any damage at all, burns like a zero, and does no damage at all.
