Pro tip for flying Mustangs, when flying in a straight line, set prop pitch to 85% and the radiators at 50%. This helps to give a slight speed boost in straight lines, when you have to climb or dogfight, set it back to 100% prop pitch and 80% radiators.
Thanks for this answer bud, I've sort of started looking at getting into MEC with some of my favorite props, and useful help is much welcome. More is always helpful, please & thank you 😁
The late Mustangs are more simple than that really. Set radiators to whatever is needed to keep them cool (around 70% is pretty safe); the radiators cause very little drag so you can even set them to 100% with negligible speed loss, and you'll never overheat. Prop pitch should be 100% except when diving at high speeds or flying level after a dive where 80% or so ensures that (1. you dive faster and (2. you don't lose speed after a dive as quickly
As a casual enjoyer of both air RB & grund RB, that's had periods of wild interest with one, or both simultaneously. Ive found the most daunting thing in my mind is getting the keybinds set up properly, and would appreciate If someone shared their MEC controls and why they're bound to (for example R = activating MEC).
It's got some downsides, but it is so relaxing to play in a plane that can so easily survive whatever you face thanks to it's ludicrous speed. It also has enough maneuverability to actually take advantage of that speed, unlike some of the other mustangs
Man, I love this plane. The speed is just superb, I love entrapping folks in this thing. One can easily carry with this game with decent energy management and target prioritisation.
Thank you for demonstrating how to deal with Zeroes in the last battle. Definitely a good refresher for me, and it'd give newbies an idea on how to approach those kind of situations. Looking forward to the next one, cheers!
Would love to see a video on the P51-D10. It's basically a P51-D5 but with the engine running at 75 lbs of boost as compared to the 60 lbs of the D20, which is the same boost level as the D30.
I'm almost 100% sure that the D10 has the same airframe as the D20 or D30 and not like the D5 which is missing the vertical tail fin. Also the D10 has a very slightly lesser boost compared to the D30, they are not identical
My very favorite part about this plane, at 3.7 US teams are half full of these things, and all of them will combine for like 2 braincells. Glad they're keeping it 3.7.
For every P-51 that I know of, you can run the engine on WEP without overheating if you use MEC. The P-51s use something called the Meredith Effect for the cooling system, which produces thrust when the cooling system is open to counter the drag of the radiators, so you can put the radiators at 100% without losing any significant amount of performance. Run the prop pitch at 95%, and now you can use WEP for as long as you want without losing any performance.
P-51 isn’t the only plane which tries to use the effect, and its low cooling drag isn’t just due to meredith effect. It’s the arrangement of rad assembly with internal layout that helps. Not to mention there is no thrust produced, but rather it has a very little cooling drag, which is not unique to P-51s at all. Most US designed planes tend not to suffer from overheating issues. Examples of other planes to make use of meredith effect to varying degrees of effectiveness are as follows: 1. Literallt all Hurricanes 2. Yak-1, Yak-3, Yak-9 3. Ki-61 4. DH.98, DH.103 5. Literally all Spitfires 6. Literally all Bf 109s
I thought you’d never cover the P-51C! Love this plane, particularly the French prem F-6C. Love the look of the bubble canopy on the razorback, and the olive drab camo it has. o7 m8!
@@nahyeahwhatsahandle it was never changed but like ever since gaijin shrieked map timer down the p51s have gotten worse and unless you have insane aim (like hitting every shot no follow ups) or get lucky you can’t have that much fun since annoying stuff can run back to their airfield and stop you from carrying solo (which is how most games are since American teams suck) this wasn’t that bad with old map timer since you could drag them away from each other than chandelle (basically super wide energy trap takes 2-5 minutes depending on who you’re trying to stall and what altitude) green fury has some videos on these type of energy traps (yes I know green fury is a confirmed airfield camper however I have incorporated his Chandelle video has some useful info). Another problem with this plane now is that you can’t play top down (the way I like to play) without very good aim the way DEFYN is playing here is basically the way squishface plays (except defyn had way better aim) it’s not very consistent unless you’re pretty good at aiming since when you’re turning with things you’re at risk of getting swarmed and there is a little luck involved, for example where he lights that a6m on fire in the head on that was quite lucky and if he didn’t that engagement might have taken way longer and he would have run out of time, don’t get me wrong you can still do some chandelles in the p51 but with ticket bleed, airfield aaa, and a super short map timer this playstyle is just not that practical (unless you hit almost all your shots)

I used it to grind a fairly large part of the US tech tree, until I got the F2G and even back then when I wasn't quite as good as now, 2 kill games were very common.
I have never been much of a mustang guy. I’m more of a naval aircraft enjoyer and that love goes down the entire American air tree from top to bottom. F3H is my favorite plane just sucks that that F-8 I bought yesterday sucks and rips in positive Gs
The F-8 is a great plane once you get the hang of it. It's *much* less prone to ripping above about 3000m, so it's generally best to start high and work your way down with it. It's AIM-9Ds also have great range at higher altitude, especially if you fire them downward, which is another reason to begin the match at 6k-8k meters (if you can spot the dot, the AIM-9D can hit farther out that markers appear if you are at high alt, or shooting down). Down low, speed and acceleration are pretty good, but you need to maneuver gently, so you usually need to look for chances to extend away, climb, and then pull your hard maneuvers at the top of the climb. It also helps to use the manual elevator to nose down the instant a G-warning shows up. Basically, treat the F-8 like a turn-fighter above 6km, while using missiles to hit targets far below you without sacrificing altitude, then treat it like a BnZ fighter below 6km. It has a high skill floor, but once you get used to the F-8's quirks you can outplay anything at any BR. DEFYN has some good videos of the F-8E and F8U-2 on his channel, and so does Spit Flyer. It's a skill check plane, and you need to be used to it's individual quirks. I'm not generally a good player, but once I got used to not breaking the wings on the F-8, it's carried me to usually leading my team. I'm still sometimes rip, but it' an easy plane to score 2 or 3 kills before that happens.

Actually the f6c isn’t the same thing it has 20 minutes of fuel so it climbs, turns, and is slightly faster than the C-10 you can beat them in the 1v1 if you’re bad but it’s not a fair 1v1
on the side that the razorback mustangs look better than the Bubble top models, but yeah…. The C-10 is most definitely better. It’s lighter and you definitely notice it when you fly it. The bubble canopy and the 2 extra 50 cals add too much weight that it feels like a boat
"i know that guys from australia or somthing" bruh, im getting called out lol, maybe gaijin can give us our own server for once so we can play with less than 300 ping
Fun fact: the red tails unit were always the test pilots for new planes. They were the only ones capable of such intellect, all non-segregated normal pilots couldnt understand the instruments and would crash the planes. They also made up 70% of pilots who scored kills in all theaters
Great video as always. I have one question: I already played german, japanese, russian and italian props and now I wanna try out the american props like the p47, p51 and f4u but I'm having a hard time understanding how to climb efficiently. At which IAS do you usually climb?
As for me, I think it kinda depends on which US fighter it is. I played the F6F a lot, and I usually sideclimbed at around 260 IAS with WEP. In my opinion, it climbs better than what you would think with the stat card. About the P-47, I expect it to be around the same IAS or higher but you would need to sideclimb longer because it's still heavier than the F6F. I have no idea on the P-51s tho. The F4U is very similar to the F6F
@@mondinik2378 Perhaps I was climbing at an angle higher than most other players. But with WEP it's not that bad. Besides, the more you take to arrive to the battle (sideclimbing slower) the more chance there is you'll be above the enemy team (something very desireable in American fighters)
Tip I heard is start by aiming right at enemy and lead forward from there with the .50s instead of trying to guess lead and then walking it back. The rounds go out there fast, and they’re definitely strong even with only 4.
I understand you wanting kill footage for vids, gotta keep it interesting and stuff. P51C-10... you know what else is at that BR? The il-2! Give it a try, won't you?
my most used plane :), its busted at 3.7. It was already good at 4.0.

enemy dodging too soon
@DEFYN сan you please make a tutorial on how to dodge frontal attacks?
Mind trying the P51 with 20mms? Had good experience with it.
I did like just over a month ago
Imagine being Dutch unironically
Imagine getting all your plane requests ignored unironically

RIP BARBIEGIRLFAN
Man made it look easy
what about the F-6C? P-51 with 20 minutes fuel load?
I'd love to see a new J6K video
I instantly knew you are dutch😂🇳🇱❤️
Actually the f6c isn’t the same thing it has 20 minutes of fuel so it climbs, turns, and is slightly faster than the C-10 you can beat them in the 1v1 if you’re bad but it’s not a fair 1v1
❤
The only plane i fear while playing japanese
you a boss
As someone who mains the Mustangs, the best P-51’s are the D-30, D-10 and H-5. I’ll take the D-30 and D-10 over the P-51C and the P-51D-20
I got a 4 kill game with the Japanese C-11 even though I am trash at air
What happened to the mitsubishi t2k? That plane was a monster when it was released...
Great plane but the d-20 is better and has good BR. Would love to see a video on the premium marine Corsair f4u-B, it’s so good
I am not able to get that plane because i am on PC
Bruh naw the D-20 ain't better lmfao
maybe in terms of looks yeah but performance? nah
The D-20 is straight up worse than the C-10 apart from the extra two guns
@@rainsilent He's talking about the premium F4U 4B for console only.
the D-20 is still on sale
on the side that the razorback mustangs look better than the Bubble top models, but yeah…. The C-10 is most definitely better. It’s lighter and you definitely notice it when you fly it. The bubble canopy and the 2 extra 50 cals add too much weight that it feels like a boat
A meme request:
Change your outro into Xenogenesis for one video
"i know that guys from australia or somthing" bruh, im getting called out lol, maybe gaijin can give us our own server for once so we can play with less than 300 ping
Nah i actually know him lmao
@@DEFYN lol, still would love to get a OCE server or something, playing on US and SA servers is hell, high ping, ghost shells and sparks for days...
Fun fact: the red tails unit were always the test pilots for new planes. They were the only ones capable of such intellect, all non-segregated normal pilots couldnt understand the instruments and would crash the planes. They also made up 70% of pilots who scored kills in all theaters
Lame.
The F4U is very similar to the F6F
for p-51 290 IAS is most effective and for most planes 280-290 is most effective. But i usually do 300 to have a bit more energy
@@amazingstealth8235 260 seems a little bit too slow but I trust you. tomorrow I'll try. Meanwhile thanks for the answer.
@@zhrprkp6732 ok, tomorrow I'll try. Thank you.
@@mondinik2378 Perhaps I was climbing at an angle higher than most other players. But with WEP it's not that bad. Besides, the more you take to arrive to the battle (sideclimbing slower) the more chance there is you'll be above the enemy team (something very desireable in American fighters)
Buying the Japanese version from warbonds was the best choice ever
my only problem with it is that I suck balls in aiming 50 cals
Tip I heard is start by aiming right at enemy and lead forward from there with the .50s instead of trying to guess lead and then walking it back. The rounds go out there fast, and they’re definitely strong even with only 4.
I understand you wanting kill footage for vids, gotta keep it interesting and stuff. But what about doing a video on how to bait for teammates? cuz it feels like that kill on the Ki-61 coulda been a clean bait and I have run in to a lot of teammates that wanted help but didnt help me help them by baiting properly
Fly straight ask teammate to kill enemy, do you really need help for that?
@@nickpickle7665 some people seem to, If you have time specifically to fly in a straight line you aren't in trouble but I get your point. It may be more of a point line in the video not a full one. I'm more talking about the people who ask for help then while you are coming in to help seem to turn in the worst possible way (like directly under) so you cant get guns on the guy
@@eagleeye7166 watch DEFYNs positioning guide he has a 50 minute long video in this lmao
DEFYN I was thinking, I know you are in the medical field and dont have much free time but having an exclusive pass in your patreon for people who want lessons from you and you could load into a game with them or just specate from discord and give tips and explain to them how to play the plane they are in. It would be extremely useful for those trying to stock grind or just grind a tech tree. -thx
what happend to the plane in the first video clip? they were just diving and its tail ripped off. Can someone explain?
He just bailed out lol
@@DEFYN ah ok thanks for clarifying
